Aloha, all! Here's my Generation Gap comic strip featured in today's @hawaii_herald •Mauna Loa erupting was the source for this idea. I never did make one of those baking soda/vinegar volcanos in school. Keep smiling, stay safe, and have a great weekend all 😊 #jonjmurakami #comic #comicstrip #cartoon #generationgap #volcano #maunaloa #hawaii #scienceexperiment #scienceexperimentsforkids #holidaystress https://www.instagram.com/p/ClrnuTlyOXi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Dancing Raisins Science Experiment | Science For Kids | Easy Peasy DIY For Kids
Have you seen dancing raisins? Let's try Dancing Raisins experiment! Doing these science experiments for kids is a lot of fun and it's easy to do them at home. This amazing science for kids experiment does not require any special supplies and can be easily done with regular household items. Adult support is needed, especially when you're dealing with vinegar.   All you need for this home science experiment are: - raisins; - clear glass; - unopened soft drink, 591 mL. Instructions: 1. Open and slowly pour soft drink into the glass until it is full for 2/3. 2. Drop 5-7 raisins into the glass. 3. Wait and watch what happens. How it works: When you drop raisins into the glass, they initially sink to the bottom, because they are more dense than water. Carbon dioxide bubbles stick to the raisins and lift raisins up to the surface (increase raisins buoyancy). Once carbon dioxide bubbles pop on the surface, the raisins will sink to the bottom of the glass. This process continues until there is no carbon dioxide left in the soft drink. Now change a soft drink to water, add some baking soda and vinegar. Drop some lentils and watch!

Colorful Walking Water!
Tumblr media
This experiment is simple, educational, and will mesmerize children of any age. More importantly, it is so much fun! It truly seemed like magic to my toddler, and was a wonderful opportunity to learn about primary and secondary colors while just having fun experiencing color mixing firsthand.
When I say simple, I really mean it. You most likely have all the items that you need right around the house! And if you don't then you can improvise like we did.  *We didn't have small clear plastic cups, nor did we have enough small clear drinking glasses. As you can see in the below image, I decided to reuse some plastic water bottles by cutting them in half. They worked perfectly!*
Tumblr media
Materials
       - 7 Small plastic cups, glasses, or any clear and small container to hold water
       - 6 half sheet paper towels - folded in half lengthwise, twice
       - Food coloring in the primary colors: red, blue, and yellow
       - Water
*We personally added a few small pebbles to the bottom of each of our DIY plastic cups, because without the weight of the rocks they slid around the table. Since I was doing this with my 2 year old, I wanted the containers to remain as stable as possible while she was doing the experiment. It was just totally something I thought of on a whim and that I tried out, but it's not a necessity!
Tumblr media
Instructions
Place your 7 cups in a row
Pour water in the 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th cups only
Add red food coloring to the first and last cups (we added 7 drops)
Add yellow food coloring to the 3rd cup
Add blue food coloring to the 5th cup
Fold a half sheet of paper towel in half lengthwise, twice.
Put one side of the folded paper towel in the 1st cup and the other side into the cup beside it.
Repeat with the remaining 6 paper towels
Watch as the colorful water begins to crawl up the paper towels! It begins slowly, but will take a little of time, but eventually the tinted water will make it's way all the way across the paper towels and into the cups without water...perfectly demonstrating color mixing!
*You are leaving the 2nd, 4th, and 6th cups empty because that is where the color mixing magic will be happening!

This mice may not look like anything special. But the sperm that formed them spent three to six years In International Space Station. It is the longest biological experiment on the ISS yet. Exposure to space radiation didn't seem to harm the sperm's DNA or the cells to ability to produce healthy "space pups." After Returning the freeze-dried sperm cells to earth, rehydrating them and injection them into fresh mouse eggs, researchers transferred those embryos to female mice. About 240 healthy space pups were born from sperm kept on the ISS for nearly three years; about 170 other were born from sperm kept on the space station for nearly six years. Genetic analysis reveled no difference between these space pups and mice born from sperm stored on the ground. That may be good news for future spacefarers. Scientists have worried that cronic exposure to space radiation might not only put astronauts at risk for cancer and other diseases, but also create mutation in the DNA that could be passed down to future generations. The New result hint that deep-space travelers could safely bear Children. H and I were looking at kids science experiments and he picked some he wanted to try. I see so many cool experiments online that I was excited to try them too! Buuuut they were all kinda a bust... . 1. Get a dish with milk, drop in food coloring, then use a Q-tip dipped in dish soap to make designs. I mean, it was neat for about half a second. Then we just had a tray of brown milk. . 2. Not pictured: elephant toothpaste. We tried plain and with stripes. And yea, it like boiled up out of the container but it didn’t do any cool explosion. Only thing I can think of is that I didn’t have a high enough percentage hydrogen peroxide. . 3. When the explosion was a bust, I went for a color mixing activity I’ve seen variations of on sooo many blogs/feeds. Maybe I used too long of paper towels or something. I don’t know. But the colors never “traveled” up the paper towels far enough to mix so it was just kinda eh. . I was never really into science so I have been hoping that I can instill some excitement in my kids that will help them be interested in science later. I won’t give up yet haha but these were all super disappointing...esp when I was pushing through my covid-exhaustion to set them all up 😩🤦🏼‍♀️ . #notascientist #scienceexperimentforkids #scienceexperimentsforkids #sciencefails https://www.instagram.com/p/CObCNSvFjeS/?igshid=1gth3xi32bo51

Potato In A Jar Experiment! 🥔 Here’s a really great, simple, science experiment to do at home with the kids. This one came to us via a suggestion from one of the absolutely fantastic Teaching Assistants in Holly’s nursery class. I can now vouch that it is so simple to set up and do, but, the results are fantastic and provide a real ‘WOW!’ moment for the kids! (Though, not instantly, so, it does require a degree of patience!) Have you ever wondered where our potatoes come from? Well let’s find out! You will need : 1. One old potato that is starting to grow small roots. (To encourage this, pop it onto the windowsill for a few days. This is called chitting) 2. A glass jar. 3. Soil / compost Instructions : 1. Half fill your glass jar with compost. Leave a tiny gap at the side. 2. Pop your potato in the jar at the side with the roots pointing downwards. 3. Carefully cover the potato with the compost to just below the top of the jar. 4. Sprinkle a little water into the jar...not too much! 😉 5. Place your jar in a dark place and leave it alone sleeping for one week. Don’t forget to blow it a kiss 💋 6. After one week, take out your jar and give it a little more water. It can now be looked after in the sunlight. Can you see any changes? Draw a picture or take a photograph of what you can see. Can you make a diary of what happens next? Why don’t you plant some potatoes in your very own garden or a large plant pot. When they have grown, you can cook them and EAT THEM!!! 😋Yum, yum! We’ve just come to the end of week one with our potato so the pictures show what ours looked like after we’d kept it in the dark for a week. Now we’re looking forward to seeing what happens next and growing our own in the garden too! #threebeansplaytime #3beansplaytime #lockdownlearning #potatoinajar #scienceexperimentsforkids #learning #learningathome #homelearningfun #homelearning #potatoexperiment #scienceexperimentsforkids #youtubers #youtuberkids #eyfs #eyfsideas https://www.instagram.com/p/CABkYnWHp77/?igshid=k19bs6osvkiv

Science Experiment #60 of #365 for 2020 The Great Emulsifier Today’s science experiment was about molecules that were opposites and how to combine them. We used oil and water to show what happens when molecules are not attracted. Then we used other objects to check what would be an emulsifier. An emulsifier is something that allows molecules to bond that are normally not able to mix. I make an effort to do a different science experiment 7 days a week. It doesn’t always go as planned and sometimes the experiments just do NOT work out but we have made some pretty amazing memories! Before we got started I talked to the Little’s about what an emulsifier is and gave them examples. I told them that sometimes Sister Bear is an emulsifier between Josie Cat and Brother Bear. Then I asked them to tell me what that means to them. All three were able to explain it to me in terms they understood so they started the experiment with a general idea of what it meant and what the experiment was about! https://catsnbearz.com/diy-projects/science-experiments/the-great-emulsifier-ms-egg/ #homeschool #homeschoollife #homeschoolblog #homeschooling #science #scienceexperimentsforkids #scienceproject #scienceexperiment #family #familytime #memories #memoriesforlife (at Dallas, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/B9M2XxmJnuh/?igshid=80sralcn4991
