Got a new book, got inspired by @mean-scarlet-deceiver doing this with the G&SWR books.
The Author thinks about L&NW exiles on the Sou' West:
"Curiously enough, it was of the L&NW that I thought in our extermity. The L&NW - hardly a railway publication could you open without accounts of the prowess of their engines - George the Fifths, Prince of Wales, Claughtons. And they had hunderds of them! Surely they could spare a few to run our trains more efficiently. I pictured a Claughton on the Pullman, a George the Fifth on the 5.10p. Glasgow to Ayr, a Prince of Wales on the Stranraer Road. A wilder flight of fancy glimpsed a Claughton tearing down fron Dalnaspidal with a 2-4-0 Jumbo as pilot. I did not know, or had forgotten that such locomotives would require a somewhat severe haircut and shave before they could have gone under some of our Scottish bridges."

For, you understand, the Caley was beyond the pale. The North British were a queer folk, an outlandish folk, but our allies, and we tolerated them; but the Caley, oh Heavens, no! ... We hear the old fighting ring in the last verse and line of the famous poem that The Cuckoo made when he fired to Joe Dinwiddie at Dumfries on 259, the Stirling 0-4-2:
🎵 'We left St. Enoch station, our time was eight-sixteen.
The electric light was shining: her beauty there was seen.
We ran our miles so speedily and reached Dumfries at time,
And we beat the Caledonian with the Two-Five-Nine!'
- Tales of the Glasgow and South Western Railway, David L. Smith
Characters like Duck and the Scottish Twins were absent from the show for years, right- it could be easy to assume we were just always missing them, and that they were just busy off screen.
But Duck specifically drawing attention to how he hasn't seen Donald and Douglas in ages in Lost Treasure, that to me feels more indicative of them truly being gone, because he is the most likely to have seen them on his little western line.
What do yall think? I'm a little enamored with the thought that they had been sent away for a year or more, perhaps on loan to a heritage railway in Scotland. And they come back, and Duck and Oliver are just so pleased to have them back at last. Or do yall think they were just bustling about off-screen, and yeah, it's just a cute nod to how they've been gone from the franchise for years. All takes are valid!
Of course I'm asking because you know, I would want to incorporate the time away into my shipping content 😏 absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that. Home is where the heart is, on the Little Western. 🖤💚
"Well I-.. don't know, but it feels like you've been gone for ages!"
ah. Tis but the truth...I have not always been this kind and lovable gremlin...
Once I was a jerk! And it was some weird phase? Idk..
So basically, in my 5th grade elementary school I had a group of great friends! We'd always hang out! But I think I started talking to the mean kids and well.. Its like they converted my smooth brain to become an absolute nightmare! I was really rude to my friends and they were always just left confused. I made one 4th grade student cry because I decided to push them over and step on their hand, I made one other 5th grade student shed a tear after I yeeted him off the jungle gym.. (( I'm sorry :,] )) And once, I was talking some trash to the quiet kid, calling her some names... You know, 5th grade stuff... And she was Pissed. Ok I'm telling you DON'T MESS WITH THE QUIET KID... She dropped all of her things, cracked her knuckles, then punched me so hard in the stomach that I forgot how to breath for a solid 5 seconds. THAT WAS A STRONG PUNCH!!! I was just sitting on the floor looking at her. I was just like... trying to process what happened. She then pjcked up her stuff and walked past... well no she walked on and then past me. She stepped on my hand... Shocker.
...Don't be a jerk guys! You'll get punched so hard that you'll be knocked back to 1st grade! I was converted back to good boi after that. My friends forgave me! 🥲👍
((Shoutout to Nancy from 5th grade. You have strong punches and I'm scared of you))
A little exhausted from the hunt, one young Marcus decides to get some shaved ice and recalibrate. Whilst he's there, he decides to ask a local woman just where the old sugar cane railway used to run to. The question, for some reason, seems to alarm her.
(Have the two nines interacting. Poor Donnie is so lost on Fred’s slang.)
Fred prefers the company of animals to people/humanoids so their convo goes like this:
Fred to Dilly: So rumors been going around that a duck took a crap on the establishment?
Dilly: Quack.
Fred: Heh. Metal, I salute you.
On September 19th 1854 The Great North of Scotland Railway (GNSR) opened, running from Aberdeen to Huntly.
The Great North of Scotland Railway was established to connect Aberdeen with Inverness, a target which it never reached due to the hostility of the Highland Railway based in Inverness. Furthermore, this impoverished railway built a penetrating line deep into GNSR territory to reach Keith. Between Aberdeen and Lossiemouth (its furthest point from Aberdeen) the GNSR built a series of lines serving North East Scotland from the fishing ports of Fraserburgh and Peterhead to the distilleries of Speyside. A separate line (originally entirely separate with its own locomotives: the Deeside Railway) reached Ballater and was used by the Royal Family to reach Braemar.
The main station in Aberdeen was owned jointly by the GNSR and the Caledonian Railway (the North British Railway merely had access to it over the CR). Very little of the GNSR remains other than the mainline to Keith and the main station in Aberdeen.

I Think From This Art Onwards, That I’ll Simplify The Hair Shading And Highlights Like The Other Shading. Since That Shading, Although Cool, Takes Incredibly Long To Do, Especially With Multiple Characters In On Art Piece
In March 1939 the LMS sends Stranraer a Class 5 to test. It goes very well and soon Stranraer is awash in secondhand Black Fives. The funny part is "a hard core of ex-Caley men" at Northern Division headquarters have feels! They are OFFENDED that the Stranraer men prefer the new engines to "their incomparable 60 class" and so they insist they repeat the test with a Caley 4-6-0!
The test appears to go sadly and Stranraer's like "Hmm yes, thank you for that interesting experience (we'll be sticking with the Staniers)" and headquarters insist, insist, "[a]s a great favour," that they keep the test engine.
