It’s the first day at the lab. Cora feels slightly intimidated. The compound towers above her. University did very little to prepare her for this.
“Uhm… hi, I’m Cora Duchelli? It’s my first day. Am I even in the right place?”
“Oh, Cora, welcome! Of course, let me buzz for Shayla, she’ll give you the tour.”
Shayla quickly shows up, taking Cora to meet her new co-workers.
She meets one of the senior scientists, Payton. He is going to be her supervisor until she gets settled in.
Another colleague is Elsa. Cora finds her very pleasant, and she also went to Foxbury when she was younger
Cora even gets to tinker a bit with the machines before heading home for the day.
“… and then I was having lunch with Payton, and he told me that I’ll be working on improving their satellite tech. They think it’s mainly a range problem, since we know the coordinates of Sixam.”
Every day, Cora works on the inventor, tweaking and improving the satellites. She also learns more about her co-workers.
For example, it’s barely a secret that her supervisor Payton has something going on with Elsa.
And the receptionist is really tired of their shenanigans. Payton and Elsa are both married and have kids. It’s all a little awkward.
Cora gets along pretty well with her supervisor, though, and he is clearly impressed with her skills. It doesn’t take many weeks before Cora gathers up the courage to ask to work on the rocket programme itself.
Payton agrees, he seems to believe that the rocket technology might help inspire a new approach to the satellite system, and gives Cora the needed security clearance.
Cora can’t believe her luck. She begins looking at ways to upgrade the rocket immediately.
Cora suspects Payton only agreed so willingly because it leaves him free to spend time with Elsa.

GENEVA/CAIRO (Reuters) -Nearly 100 trucks carrying food for Palestinians were violently looted on Nov. 16 after entering Gaza in one of the worst aid losses during 13 months of war in the enclave, where hunger is deepening, two U.N. agencies told Reuters on Monday.
The convoy transporting food provided by U.N. agencies UNRWA and the World Food Programme was instructed by Israel to depart at short notice via an unfamiliar route from Kerem Shalom border crossing, said Louise Wateridge, UNRWA Senior Emergency Officer.
Ninety-eight of the 109 trucks in the convoy were raided and some of the transporters were injured during the incident, she said, without detailing who carried out the ambush.
"This ... highlights the severity of access challenges of bringing aid into southern and central Gaza," she told Reuters.
"The urgency of the crisis cannot be overstated; without immediate intervention, severe food shortages are set to worsen, further endangering the lives of over two million people who depend on humanitarian aid to survive."
The Hamas TV channel Al-Aqsa quoted Hamas interior ministry sources in Gaza as saying that over 20 gang members involved in looting aid trucks were killed during an operation carried out by Hamas security forces in coordination with tribal committees. It said anyone caught aiding such looting would be treated with "an iron fist".
A WFP spokesperson confirmed the looting and said that many routes in Gaza were currently impassable due to security issues.
An Israeli official said Israel had been working to address the humanitarian situation since the start of its war against Hamas, adding that the main problem with aid deliveries was U.N. distribution challenges.
A U.N. aid official said on Friday that access for aid to Gaza had reached a low point, with deliveries to parts of the Israeli-besieged north of the enclave all but impossible. Israel's devastating military campaign in Gaza was triggered by the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas-led attacks in southern Israel.

Israel targets information technology experts as part of its genocide in Gaza
The Israeli army has systematically targeted dozens of programmers, information technology experts, and workers in computer engineering, in addition to destroying the headquarters of their companies, as part of the ongoing crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip since 7 October 2023. Since the beginning of its large-scale attack on Gaza, the Israeli army has killed hundreds of people with intellects and expertise in the blockaded enclave, especially those proficient in information technology, programming, and computer engineering, as well as other elites in the local community such as doctors, academics, and others. Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor compiled a list of technology specialists, including those with expertise in programming and artificial intelligence, who have been directly killed by the ongoing Israeli attacks. Among those is the well-known programming engineer Haitham Muhammad Al-Nabahin, who was esteemed as one of the Gaza Strip’s most accomplished computer engineering specialists. He, along with his wife, Eng. Nasma Zuhair Sadiq, was killed in an Israeli air strike on a residential home in the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip on 14 March. A relative of Nabahin told Euro-Med that he and his family had fled to a house in Rafah in the far south of the Gaza Strip. However, Nabahin’s two children, Layan and Muhammad, were killed, and his wife was wounded in an Israeli attack that forced them to flee once more, this time to a house in the Bureij camp, where the Israeli army killed them approximately two weeks later. According to his relative, Nabahin had paid a hefty price to have his and his wife’s names included in the coordination lists for individuals seeking to leave the Gaza Strip through the Rafah Border with Egypt in order to treat his wife abroad, before they were both killed in the Israeli attack. Tariq Thabet, a graduate of the American Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program, was also killed on 31 October 2023 in an Israeli air strike that also claimed the lives of his wife, children, parents, and other family members. Thabet was the director of the UCAS Technology Incubator Programs at the University College in the Gaza Strip. Baraa Abdullah al-Saqqa, the founder of DITS and a software engineer specializing in website and smartphone application programming (senior and lead developer), was also killed in a similar Israeli air strike on 21 November 2023. He held positions with numerous industry-specific businesses, such as (CTO) company. Additionally, he was active in providing programming courses and specialized workshops. In addition to being a student in a master’s program in computer engineering with a focus on artificial intelligence, Saqqa was regarded as one of the leading young programmers in Gaza. He was recognized for his efforts in training numerous new employees in the technical fields and was awarded numerous certificates and awards. Saqqa was killed in an Israeli air strike on his family home in Gaza City, along with his pregnant wife and his in-laws. The list also includes Muhammad al-Athal, who was killed on 26 October 2023, Hamza al-Shami on 2 November 2023, Obaida Khater on 20 December 2023, Anas al-Sheikh on 9 December 2023, and Abdel Rahman Hamada on 15 March, in addition to another group of young programmers, including Rami al-Sousi, Abdel Hamid Al-Fayoumi, Bilal Zaqout, Ahmed Nidal Qaddoura, engineer Muhammad Hassouna, and others.

12 January 2024: Crown Prince Hussein met in Singapore with Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean, and Minister of Education Chan Chun Sing, who is also Minister-in-charge of the Public Service.

His Royal Highness expressed concern over the escalating extremist discourse that fuels conflict, commending Singapore’s vote in favour of the UN General Assembly resolution to stop the war on Gaza, proposed by Jordan.
For their part, the two ministers commended Jordan’s pivotal role in the region, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, as well as the Kingdom’s efforts in working toward peace, security, and stability in the region and the world.

So, Russia destroyed 60,000 metric tons of grain meant for export in Ukraine today. This grain was meant for export. Now, something you may not know is Ukraine is major exporter of grain and it frequently sends it grain as part of the Black Sea Grain Initiative
What is the Black Sea Grain Initiative? Quoting the UN:
The Black Sea Grain Initiative was launched in Istanbul by the Russian Federation, Türkiye, Ukraine and United Nations on 22 July 2022. Through this initiative, a mechanism was established for the safe exports of grain, related foodstuffs and fertilizer, including ammonia, from designated Ukrainian ports to global markets. The purpose of the Initiative is to contribute to the prevention of global hunger, to reduce and address global food insecurity, and to ensure the safety of merchant ships delivering grain and foodstuffs. To facilitate the implementation of their Initiative, the Joint Coordination Centre (JCC) was set up in Istanbul on 27 July 2022, under the auspices of the United Nations, comprised of senior representatives of Türkiye, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and the United Nations. ...during the first two terms of the agreement over 25 million metric tons of grain and food products were exported, including more than 480,000 metric tons of wheat shipped under the World Food Programme to support its humanitarian operations in hunger-struck spots around the world.
Pretty neat, huh? Say, how far does 480,000 metric tons of wheat go? According to the World Food Programme:
1 metric ton of food, typically including cereals, pulses and oil, is sufficient for approximately 1,660 people for one day – meeting their minimum daily energy intake of 2,100 kcal as well as their vitamin and mineral needs.
So doing some quick math, Ukraine fed a maximum* 796,800,000 people for one day, or 7,968,000 people for 100, or 79,680 people for 10,000 days (aka 27.39726027... years)!
So going back to those 60k that got destroyed, how many could that have fed? Well*:
99,600,000 people for 1 day or,
996,000 people for 100 days or,
9,960 people for 10,000 days (aka 27.39726027... years)
That's um
Bad
And to make it even worse, this attack destroyed not only the grain but the ability to house the grain, limiting their ability to do more exports.
But of course, this actually NATO's fault. They forced daddyPutin to target civilian infrastructure used for foreign aid. Because... communism? I think?
*These numbers represent a theoretical maximum, there will be shipping and processing, and the grain Ukraine exports does not constitute an entire meal so the actual number will be lower by some amount.

At the meeting, attended by Queen Rania and Crown Prince Hussein, King Abdullah said humanitarian aid currently delivered to Gaza does not cover relief needs on the ground. At the meeting, held as part of the “Aqaba Process” initiative, they highlighted the need for the international community to push for ensuring the suitable conditions that guarantee a quick and uninterrupted delivery of aid to Gaza. Participants discussed the current humanitarian situation in Gaza, and the need to respect international law and provide basic necessities—including food, water, medicine, shelter, and energy—highlighting the current efforts of their agencies and countries, as well as the challenges they face in aid delivery, and means of overcoming them. In addition, attendees identified aid priorities and urgent needs on the ground in Gaza, including the needed logistics for aid delivery and distribution, as well as allocating resources quickly and efficiently. The meeting saw the participation of high-level representatives of over 30 international humanitarian organisations, including the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the World Food Programme, UNRWA, UNICEF, the World Health Organisation, UN Women, the United Nations Office for Project Services, and the International Committee of the Red Cross, in addition to representatives of over 30 Arab and foreign countries.
Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, His Majesty’s chief adviser for religious and cultural affairs and personal envoy, and Prince Rashid bin El Hassan, adviser to His Majesty and chairperson of the board of trustees of the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation, and a number of senior Jordanian officials attended the meeting.
