.☽༊˚ january writing; an older woman
bobby x reader
feat. lioness!reader, age gap, dash of hurt/comfort, fluff
As much as you’ve enjoyed New York on your previous visits, after this particular one you’re not sure you’ll ever be able to face the city again.
Dread and fear curdle sourly in the pit of your stomach alongside the half-cup of coffee and two paracetamol that surmised your breakfast. There’s an inescapable chill in the midmorning air that slips under the stiff collar of your new coat that eats at you no matter how tight you pull it around yourself. Not that you’ve ever had the money for brands like this before, but now their uselessness will forever be cemented in your brain.
The stupid tourist scarf around your neck doesn’t help - it only makes you feel stupid on top of cold. But Joe’s instructions were firm as they are in the field, and she wants the digital trail you and Bobby are out here to lay down to be flawlessly believable ahead of first contact, so it’s time to flesh out your sweet Northeastern student alias as much as you can.
She - your mark, the prized little sister of an emerging arms dealer trafficking illegal weapons by the tonne throughout the Levant - is due to fly into LaGuardia later in the week, no doubt swarmed in bodyguards, at her brother’s behest. You know from Agency intel that she has a reservation at a posh Manhattan café later in the week, so the plan is to let Tex loose on their booking systems and erase the data as she arrives. Shepherded by Randy and Tucker, you’ll arrive just after her and be affected by the same problem - at which point, you’re counting on her rumored social disposition and your manufactured sweetness that she’ll take you up on your offer of company to find somewhere else.
Now, on a cold street corner draped in tourist garb, your and Bobby’s mission for the morning is to craft a social media profile befitting of such company. She’d almost been more repulsed at the idea than you, but it ended up winning out over spending another day in those accursed hotel rooms looking over data and reports and waiting for the action to start. It hadn’t taken long for her to come around to it, though - quite enjoying your frustration at being made to pose and preen for Instagram highlights and posts that are meant for an audience of squarely one - but after probably the twelfth peace-sign pose on a street corner, your disposition slips noticeably.
“Sweeten up, sunshine.” Bobby chides over the bustle of citygoers all around, in a gratingly upbeat tone that’s not without an air of sternness to it. Behind her gold-rimmed sunglasses, you can spy the endearing furrow of her brow as she takes a couple more pictures. “This won’t be so believable if you look like you’re here at gunpoint.”
Your scowl only makes her laugh. Pulling the cheap scarf loose, you smack it against her chest in a ball as you fall in step and meander down the sidewalk.
“Yeah, because it’ll be my looking a little green that gives us away and not a fucking college student having no-one to go sightseeing with but a woman twice her age.” You spit, charged with more vitriol than you’d meant. The cover, the insertion, the lack of time to prepare - it all has you in knots, shrouding everything in a haze of fear and disdain. Bobby, though probably best prepared to deal with your spite, is the one least deserving of it.
“So now that’s a problem, huh?” She muses, idly folding the red-and-blue fabric over itself in skilful hands as you walk. Shooting you a sideways glance, she shrugs and quietly delights in the heat that rushes to your cheeks. “First time I’m hearing of it.”
“No, it- “ Your voice catches in your throat, guilt flushing through you and over your anxieties despite the obvious humour in her voice. She guides you by a strong hand on the small of your back to the mouth of a quiet alleyway, as you fumble for words that refuse to come. “Bobby, I- “
“I know. Breathe.” Her serious face seems to soften in the shadow of the building at your back, as her hand squeezes your arm tightly. You do as she says, doing your best to slow your breathing and re-centre, as much as one can in such a raucous setting, to which she nods approvingly in a way you’ve often found yourself chasing. She pauses for a second then, as though contemplating whatever’s on her mind, and after a beat leans in and kisses your forehead.
The tenderness, though sends your heart hammering against your ribs in unbidden affection, shocks you almost into silence. You rejoin the footrack into another busy street, your hand tucked around her arm to keep her close to you amidst the throngs of people.
“Twice your age my ass.” She scoffs after a minute, a notion of disbelief written into her face. Your quiet laugh isn’t very appreciated, but she only rolls her eyes at you. “Pushing it, but not that fuckin’ far.”
“Whatever you have to tell yourself.” You murmur against her shoulder, scrubbing your thumb in slow circles over the contours of her bicep before kissing her shoulder with a subdued smile.

Is there a studious point system for the mc?
No, actually! In situations where the MC might be able to use their mind to solve any sort of issue, either you already have options to pick from (such as the quiz in Library) or the event is already set in stone (such as the MC losing their work in Summerwork due to how they'd prepared).
So a hyper-intelligent MC and an MC with zero braincells are viewed basically the same in the eyes of the game.
Though, while it's not a point system, it does keep a vague track, it's just not used for anything that's dependent on the MC being smart. There's no equivalent to athletic points where they need to be a certain level of intelligent to perform a task: they could be dumb as a rock in Step 2 or put no effort into school by telling Lee as much, but it won't lock you out of any options in Step 3 (so they can still graduate at the top of their class).
Outside of the Step 2 call with Lee, whether you MC is good or bad isn't really used outside of it with a couple exceptions. If you choose either "You never tried much, but you still didn't do that bad." or "Everything in your classes came easily to you." then it will change some text in Summerwork. Choosing that they feel pressured to maintain/get high grades - or that they're confident that their grades will remain great if the above two options were not chosen - leads to another potential dialog path instead. Everything else will get you the same text.
In terms of Step 3 and how good/bad the MC was at graduating, it's Sightseeing of all things where it comes out. If the MC did well (so choosing "You had graduated at the top of your class.", "You soared through with high marks.", or "You had to work extremely hard, but were rewarded with great grades.") or simply had a hobby of reading, then there will be addition dialog when asking Baxter about how he likes it in Virginia.
Baxter: "Another good thing about it is the trees. Virginia has plenty of forest cover, like Oregon, so at least in that sense I'm among the familiar."
MC (if they've done well in school or read books): That tracks. I think I read somewhere that something like two thirds of Virginia consists of forests, right?
Baxter: Two thirds? I can readily believe it. You're well-informed, [MC's name].

—> my actual reaction while watching the gateway arch scene (I have read the books more times than I can count and logically knew that everything would be fine).
I’m not even kidding like my heart was beating so fast I was actually crying I was staring at the screen so hard. I really love the way they adapted this part of the book - I might actually even like it better than the books??
Quick refresh: in the book, Echidna did not attack the kids on the train and Percy was not venomed yet when they reached the Arch. They went to the Arch because they had a layover and Annabeth wanted to do so sightseeing to kill time. They met Echidna at the top of the Arch and realized she was like the monster. There was no room in the elevator to go back down so Percy told Grover and Annabeth he’d take the next one. Percy fights Echidna and is bitten by the Chimaera during this fight at the top of the Arch.
So I loved Percy already being bitten and having the venom in his system and like sacrificing himself and forcing Annabeth and Grover to leave — Percy was already selfless in the book version of this scene, but the show version like emphasizes his selflessness and self-sacrificing-ness and loyalty to his friends and hucushabdhxh I had so many feelings.
AND ALSO???? “I was never going to make it to Hades” LIKE holy shit are you trying to kill me?? I was not ready for that.
There are a lot of changes that I’ve liked but I think this is my favorite so far. I rewatched this scene like ten times and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

When the Days Get Better, The Nights Get Brighter.
As a college student, I’ve made some really good friends of all different majors. One of my best friends created a robotic entity that has AI technology and needed to spend time with a human to learn more about us on a quest to be fully emersed in humanity, to be seen as human. The robot was created from N.A.T.E. technologies. So I just called him Nate. My good friend dropped Nate off at my house and said he would be back in about a month to update his system to see how much he has learned. I was a bit hesitant at first to have something almost alive, something almost human living with me for about a month but I thought it could be a new and exciting aspect of my life that had been a bit boring lately.
I showed Nate around the house. Although he doesn’t do normal human things like eat (unless he’s eating for pleasure to learn texture or recipes), or sleep (unless he’s recharging which he can do at any time he doesn’t necessarily need to lay down and close his eyes like regular humans), I still wanted to show him the kitchen and the bedroom. I took a shower put on a nightgown and sat on my bed I pulled out my book to unwind and figured maybe I should bond with Nate a little so I called him into my room. I laid down and turned on my side and he sat on the edge of the bed. I told Nate that I’m not entirely sure what it means to be human because I’ve never been anything else. I know right from wrong and I have control over my impulses and instincts, unlike animals. I told him in the simplest terms, to be human is to divide your life into 3 sections: work, play, and pleasure and it’s up to you to decide who and which goes where. BUT love or money is usually the bottom line for any motivation. We made a lot of what seemed like eye contact and he said he understood.
The next day I explained working. My motivation for money is a job. However, being human is having the ability to love your job and be passionate about what you do. To have love and respect for your coworkers and depending on your job if you're a first responder, having love for the patients and citizens in your town. Sometimes work and love go hand in hand. Nate understood this. I showed Nate my family, my friends, and my pet. I explained love to him, it’s a feeling as well as an action. I explained pleasure as the best thing the human experience has to offer because it’s different for everyone and so many factors contribute to our pleasure aspirations and it’s constantly changing.
Over the next couple of weeks Nate and I lived life to the fullest. We went to concerts, we went to work, we played sports, we went to clubs, we went to parks, and we went sightseeing. Sometimes I forgot he was N.A.T.E. and I thought he was more like a new friend. It was our last couple of days together and it felt bittersweet. Late one night, the house was quiet I figured Nate was charging or something so I went downstairs and started watching some porn on the couch slowly exploring my body rubbing my breasts underneath my shirt, my breath increasing while I pinched my nipples, and my other hand rubbed my swollen clit through my panties watching as some hottie gets completely railed… when a voice called to me and asked me what I was doing, asking what human experience this is. My face grew hot I was so embarrassed Nate had seen me masturbating and I explained sometimes people in love touch each other and have sex but sometimes people do it for pleasure and can even do it alone. He sat beside me on the couch and grabbed my breast in one hand and my pussy in the other. He asked me if this was pleasure or love and I didnt know how to answer, on the one hand, we’ve been having a lot of fun dating and a bond had formed on the other hand he’s not real and was leaving soon. I never answered him and I just turned on a regular television show. He laid his head in my lap which felt very natural and very human so I started playing in his hair. We watched one of those Netflix series all night.
The next night and honestly a few nights after that went similarly. He would lay his head in my lap I would play in his hair and things would slowly escalate. He would rub on my thighs sometimes. He would want to be cradled and have one hand in my shirt cupping a breast. On our last night together, Nate closed his eyes while laying in my lap, cupped my right breast, and started sucking my left one it was almost like he was sleeping just sucking my breast rhythmically. I just kind of froze and let him I wasn’t sure if this was okay or right it was all so confusing. I just stared at the tv screen for 2 episodes I couldn’t even pay attention or retain anything happening. My pussy was wet, and I felt confused, I didnt want him to stop but I felt nervous to ask him any questions. Suddenly he grabbed me and made me caress his hair as usual. From the corner of my eye, I noticed that his dick was getting harder and harder. I wasn’t sure how this was possible he wasn’t a real person. Still, I was curious. I rubbed his head with my left hand and began exploring his body with my right hand. I gently rubbed his dick while looking at the screen. This went on for 4 hours. We were done when he decided to stop sucking on my nipple and he just casually flicked the other breast and nipple with his fingers and smiled at me. My head was swimming with confusion. I didnt know what to say. I fixed my shirt, said good night, and rushed to bed where I couldn’t help but masturbate thinking about the night I had with Nate. I was rubbing my clit to the thought of him on my body suckling my tit when my door opened. He pulled his pants down exposing his dick to me and climbed into my bed. He began fingering me deeply. Deeper than anyone ever has before and my moans filled up the room. I couldn’t hold back anymore I pulled Nate closer to me on top of me in my bed and the fingering got deeper, faster, and more intense… borderline painful. He pulled my panties to the side and rubbed the tip of his dick on my clit as though he was about to put the head in, I panicked and told him NO! We can’t do this !! I’m literally best friends with the person that made you !! This is insane!! Nate, with a smile, asked well this is okay though right? While slowly but still deeply fingering me feeling the grip of my tight wet pussy I couldn’t fight it. I think this is okay, I melted back into my pillow, back into my mattress, and embraced Nate being ontop of me. He was fingerfucking the shit out of me and dry-humping my body while my arms were wrapped around him and my face buried in his neck.
The next day N.A.T.E. was leaving to download his human experience to his hard drive. I was emotional and my pussy was so sore I couldn’t get the feeling of him all over my body and inside of me out of my mind. My bestie came to pick up his robot. We all had some small talk and he exclaimed that N.A.T.E. seemed so much more human in this month with me than he ever did. I started blushing my face feeling hot again with a bit of guilt and embarrassment. He loaded Nate into the car and turned to me and asked if there were any behaviors that needed to be reported. I said no hastily. He replied okay that’s good, I just want to note that Nate’s eyes have built-in cameras. He smiled and drove off.

Planning Your Langtang Valley Trek - 11 Days: Tips and Advice
The Langtang Valley Trek is one of Nepal's most accessible and beautiful trekking routes, offering a blend of stunning natural landscapes, cultural insights, and a sense of adventure. Situated north of Kathmandu, close to the Tibetan border, the Langtang Valley is often described as the "Valley of Glaciers." Here is a comprehensive guide to planning your 11-day trek to ensure a memorable and smooth experience.
Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Flights and Visas: Ensure your flights to Tribhuvan International Airport are booked well in advance. A tourist visa for Nepal can be obtained on arrival or online.
Accommodation: Book a hotel in Kathmandu for your first and last nights. Thamel is a popular area for trekkers, with numerous lodges and guesthouses.
Permits: Obtain your Langtang National Park permit and TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card from the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu.

Rest and acclimatize after your journey.
Explore Kathmandu’s heritage sites, such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple) and Durbar Square.
Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi| Duration: 7-8 hours
Route:
Start early to avoid traffic. The drive takes you through scenic landscapes and terraced fields.
Roads can be bumpy and challenging, especially during the monsoon season.
Tips:
Consider hiring a private jeep for comfort, though public buses are a more budget-friendly option.
Pack snacks and water, as stops along the way can be limited in options.
Day 3: Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel| Duration: 6-7 hours| Elevation: 1,503m to 2,470m

Take breaks to acclimatize and enjoy the scenery.
Stay hydrated and watch for signs of altitude sickness.
Day 5: Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gompa| Duration: 4-5 hours| Elevation: 3,430m to 3,870m

The trail gradually ascends, with spectacular views of snow-capped mountains.
Visit the ancient Kyanjin Gompa monastery and the local cheese factory.
Tips:
Spend the afternoon exploring the village and surrounding areas.
Taste the locally made yak cheese.
Day 6: Acclimatization Day in Kyanjin Gompa

Tserko Ri: For a more challenging hike, ascend Tserko Ri (5,000m) early in the morning.
Tips:
Take it slow to adjust to the altitude.
Enjoy the local culture and interact with the villagers.
Day 7: Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel| Duration: 6-7 hours
Route:
Retrace your steps back to Lama Hotel.

He is a command pilot with over 5,000 flying hours in 65 aircraft types, including the SR-71 and U-2. He has impeccable credentials as a former fighter pilot, test pilot, engineer and most importantly, a former SR 71 pilot. Bob puts a little things into the book that no one else would really know such as, “I’m down to my last shot of.”TEB” and using Blackbird diplomacy as a distraction.(sonic booms)
General Behler helped with the information in the recently released fictional book Tom Clancy “Weapons Grade” by Don Bentley.
I was excited while reading this book because the SR-71 is back in the air. Flying! Just as good as new. There are some computerized adjustments to the SR-71 backseat. The pilot’s cockpit remains analog. A difference is a table with a computerized tablet in the Pilots cockpit so that Bob can see what his backseater Charlie, is also seeing.
Charlie is not one of the Air Force esteemed former RSO’s’ but instead a mechanical engineering, computer whiz in his 20s who considers Bob a fossil..
They do bridge the generation gap together after one disaster after another happens at the speed of 2000 +miles an hour in the SR-71 this happens, when Bob (Snake) gives Charlie his handle( Cowboy).
Bob and Charlie are flying in formation with the Convair an unmanned aerial aircraft that can fly hypersonicy. A quote from the book”Tom Clancy Weapons Grade” by Don Bentley “The Habu’s air speed record has finally been broken. It was broken by the Corvair….We’re at Mach four and climbing to Mach five.” Bob was just fine with flying the Habu the way he had 30 years ago but as much as he wanted to pretend otherwise, Bob had become quite enamored with the tablet that displayed the imagery that Charlie was collecting. Why is the SR 71 Blackbird back in the sky? The SR-71 is flying chase after the Convair UCAV. Who else could try keep up with them?
This time around the Blackbird SR-71 is not the celebrity. That honor belong to the sleek black form that just shattered the air breathing speed record that stood for 50 years. However, ‘’That no man or woman will ever be, sitting in the cockpits to hear the thundering engines that drove the vehicle to the ragged edge of speed. This fact diminishes the glory. Because the Convair had no cockpits. Bob knew that he was lucky to be standing in this hangar with the Habu This beauty came together with slide rules, and number two pencils. As the story continues Colonel Buehler receives a phone call from the White House asking his opinion of the UCAV.( Unmanned combat aerial vehicle). The weapons system that the Corvar was trying to become would fill a new role in America’s arsenal. The President of the United States of America decides that he wants Bob to suit up and fly the Habu on one more mission. i’m not going to give away what happens next but I will give you an example of how beautifully Don Bentley writes.” Although the Blackbirds thick windows didn’t make for a great sightseeing Bob was only 200 feet from the Convair had no problem picking out its distinct shape. The UCAV Resembled nothing so much as an ethereal spirit,an ink blot rendered across a canvas of blue. Though he could see no difference in the vehicles flight profile as the onboard computer assumed control the aircraft felt different to Bob with live munitions and no human in the loop Convair seemed like an attack dog who’s leash had just been on unclipped”
I certainly enjoyed the book but please remember this is fiction. There are no SR- 71s flying anywhere. Perhaps in the future, though we may see a movie that re-create some of the magic that we all remember in the SR -71.

Byron and Shelley Chronicle their 1816 sailing trip in Lake Geneva — Day 3, June 25th — overview: they leave Evian in poor weather and arrive safely in Mellerie to eat honey and sightsee. Shelley raves about the book he’s reading (Rousseau’s Julie) and complains about the monarchy. They leave Mellerie in stormy weather. The boat almost sinks. Byron offers to save Shelley, who refuses his help. The boat is miraculously saved; they arrive in St. Gingoux and the locals congratulate them.
Percy Shelley, History of a Six Weeks' Tour:
“We left Evian on the following morning, with a wind of such violence as to permit but one sail to be carried. The waves also were exceedingly high, and our boat so heavily laden, that there appeared to be some danger. We arrived however safe at Mellerie, after passing with great speed mighty forests which overhung the lake, and lawns of exquisite verdure, and mountains with bare and icy points, which rose immediately from the summit of the rocks, whose bases were echoing to the waves.
We here heard that the Empress Maria Louisa had slept at Mellerie, before the present inn was built, and when the accommodations were those of the most wretched village, in remembrance of St. Preux. How beautiful it is to find that the common sentiments of human nature can attach themselves to those who are the most removed from its duties and its enjoyments, when Genius pleads for their admission at the gate of Power. To own them was becoming in the Empress, and confirms the affectionate praise contained in the regret of a great and enlightened nation. A Bourbon dared not even to have remembered Rousseau. She owed this power to that democracy which her husband's dynasty outraged, and of which it was however in some sort the representative among the nations of the earth. This little incident shews at once how unfit and how impossible it is for the ancient system of opinions, or for any power built upon a conspiracy to revive them, permanently to subsist among mankind. We dined there, and had some honey, the best I have ever tasted, the very essence of the mountain flowers, and as fragrant. Probably the village derives its name from this production. Mellerie is the well known scene of St. Preux's visionary exile; but Mellerie is indeed inchanted ground, were Rousseau no magician. Groves of pine, chesnut, and walnut overshadow it; magnificent and unbounded forests to which England affords no parallel. In the midst of these woods are dells of lawny expanse, inconceivably verdant, adorned with a thousand of the rarest flowers and odorous with thyme.
The lake appeared somewhat calmer as we left Mellerie, sailing close to the banks, whose magnificence augmented with the turn of every promontory. But we congratulated ourselves too soon: the wind gradually increased in violence, until it blew tremendously; and as it came from the remotest extremity of the lake, produced waves of a frightful height, and covered the whole surface with a chaos of foam. One of our boatmen, who was a dreadfully stupid fellow, persisted in holding the sail at a time when the boat was on the point of being driven under water by the hurricane. On discovering his error, he let it entirely go, and the boat for a moment refused to obey the helm; in addition, the rudder was so broken as to render the management of it very difficult; one wave fell in, and then another. My companion, an excellent swimmer, took off his coat, I did the same, and we sat with our arms crossed, every instant expecting to be swamped. The sail was however again held, the boat obeyed the helm, and still in imminent peril from the immensity of the waves, we arrived in a few minutes at a sheltered port, in the village of St. Gingoux.
I felt in this near prospect of death a mixture of sensations, among which terror entered, though but subordinately. My feelings would have been less painful had I been alone; but I know that my companion would have attempted to save me, and I was overcome with humiliation, when I thought that his life might have been risked to preserve mine. When we arrived at St. Gingoux, the inhabitants, who stood on the shore, unaccustomed to see a vessel as frail as ours, and fearing to venture at all on such a sea, exchanged looks of wonder and congratulation with our boatmen, who, as well as ourselves, were well pleased to set foot on shore.
St. Gingoux is even more beautiful than Mellerie; the mountains are higher, and their loftiest points of elevation descend more abruptly to the lake. On high, the aerial summits still cherish great depths of snow in their ravines, and in the paths of their unseen torrents. One of the highest of these is called Roche de St. Julien, beneath whose pinnacles the forests become deeper and more extensive; the chesnut gives a peculiarity to the scene, which is most beautiful, and will make a picture in my memory, distinct from all other mountain scenes which I have ever before visited.
As we arrived here early, we took a voiture to visit the mouth of the Rhone. We went between the mountains and the lake, under groves of mighty chesnut trees, beside perpetual streams, which are nourished by the snows above, and form stalactites on the rocks, over which they fall. We saw an immense chesnut tree, which had been overthrown by the hurricane of the morning. The place where the Rhone joins the lake was marked by a line of tremendous breakers; the river is as rapid as when it leaves the lake, but is muddy and dark. We went about a league farther on the road to La Valais, and stopped at a castle called La Tour de Bouverie, which seems to be the frontier of Switzerland and Savoy, as we were asked for our passports, on the supposition of our proceeding to Italy.
On one side of the road was the immense Roche de St. Julien, which overhung it; through the gateway of the castle we saw the snowy mountains of La Valais, clothed in clouds, and on the other side was the willowy plain of the Rhone, in a character of striking contrast with the rest of the scene, bounded by the dark mountains that overhang Clarens, Vevai, and the lake that rolls between. In the midst of the plain rises a little isolated hill, on which the white spire of a church peeps from among the tufted chesnut woods. We returned to St. Gingoux before sunset, and I passed the evening in reading Julie.”
Byron writing to John Murray (dated Ouchy, near Lausanne, June 27th, 1816):
“Three days ago - we were most nearly wrecked in a Squall off Meillerie - & driven to shore — I ran no risk being so near the rocks and a good swimmer - but our party were wet - & incommoded a good deal: - the wind was strong enough to blow down some trees as we found at landing - however all is righted & right - & we are thus far on return.”
Byron writing to John Murray again in 1819:
“The Story of Shelley’s agitation is true – I can’t tell what seized him – for he don’t want courage. – He was once with me in a Gale of Wind in a small boat right under the rocks between Meillerie & St. Gingo – we were five in the boat – a servant & two boatmen – & ourselves. – The Sail was mismanaged & the boat was filling fast – he can’t swim. – I stripped off my coat – made him strip off his – & take hold of an oar – telling him that I thought (being myself an expert swimmer) I could save him if he would not struggle when I took hold of him; – unless we got smashed against the rocks which were high & sharp with <a devil of> an aukward Surf on them at that minute; – we were then about a hundred yards from shore – – and the boat in <great> peril. – He answered me with the greatest coolness – “that he had no notion of being saved – & that I would have enough to do to save myself, and begged not to trouble me”. – Luckily the boat righted & baling we got round a point into St. Gingo – where the Inhabitants came down and embraced the boatmen on their escape – the Wind having been high enough to tear up some huge trees from the Alps above us as we saw next day. – – And yet the same Shelley who was as cool as it was possible to be in such circumstances – (of which I am no judge myself as the chance of swimming naturally gives self-possession when near shore) certainly had the fit of phantasy which P. describes – though not exactly as he describes it.”*
*Byron is referencing the famous anecdote about Shelley screaming and hallucinating when they were telling ghost stories that summer.

UPDATE: I took my dates from Shelley, but his dates must have been confused and Byron's must be more accurate. Because I'd been confused by Byron's dates in the past, since he often wrote past midnight (thus often referring his prior day as "today"), I had assumed Shelley was more trustworthy. According to Shelley and His Circle vol. 4 pp. 700-701, they left on June 22nd which was a Saturday, and so I believe each day of their trip would be one earlier than I and Shelley stated in these posts.

Bio: Orieon is the son of Eva and tallest Red. The youngest in his litter. Though his increase of height may make him look like he’s the oldest to some folks. Orieon doesn’t suit wit the whole* “runt of the littler”concept because it never shows in him. His mother spoils him a lot when he and his siblings were very young. He was also the most clingiest, too. Orieon is a dreamer. He wants a future that is would be great for everyone. He noticed that other aliens seem to despise him because he reminds them of his father, who he later meets. Orieon and the rest of his littermates were unexpected and unregistered in the system. Eva kept kept them away from public eyes for a while after people in the refugee camp are speculating that she purposely got pregnant in order to have her residency quicker than others since the neutraliens have a policy that prevents them from turning away a pregnant female in need of help, regardless of what race she is. Orieon started showing signs of growing only after his second week of being alive. He may look like a full blooded irken, but part of his mentality is that of his vortian side. During their time Eva kept her kids to herself, Orieon only had his brother and sisters as his close companion. There wasn’t too much to do at home, other than picking at each other or trying to get mom’s attention and coddle with her. Orion has an interest in genetic engineering. Ever since he learned from his father that he and the rest of the Irken race are born from cloning factories, he wants to take part in that field as well as being an Air Force pilot for the neutralien military. He already seems to have that skill when he was young and almost took off with one of the neutralien’s spaceships. It got Orieon scolded by his mother but also acknowledged by the person who brought him back home. One would say he has a bright future ahead of him. That he took to heart. Finding out that he’s half Irken and vortian made him embrace both sides of his bloodline. That and the culture of planet Neutra. It’s also why he’s into history and reads a lot of books nowadays.
Likes: Making friends, snacks, smoothies, pizza, adventuring, sightseeing, advance technology, visiting cultural exhibits, learning more about his bloodline background, reading, video games, sports.
Dislikes: Being compared to his father, threats to his family, things not going his way, polluted water, his brother’s arrogance, seeing his mother cry, betrayal.
Personality: kind, clingy, sarcastic,shy,flamboyant, easygoing,loyal, short-tempered,adventurous.
*RELATIONSHIPS*
Eva: He loves his mother dearly and would do anything to make her proud of him. Orieon wants to make up the years she had spent spoiling him as little. Her instincts to do that is common to some female vortians. She would stay in her nest and nurse him while her other children are already playing around her. Whenever he’s feeling doubtful and discouraged, it was Eva who would take care of him. When he popped the question about who fathered him, Eva hesitated to give her son a proper answer. Orieon is quick to defend his mother, even at the most littlest things that turn against her. Eva can’t help my visualize tallest Red doing this. Orieon biggest fear is loosing her. He almost did after the neutralien authorities took her in for questioning about her keeping a fugitive in her house. He heard them tell her that if Eva is doing this, she will be locked up and then deported off the planet. Leaving her kids to be taken by the system and put in a group home until further documents are in place. Orieon and his siblings help around the house when Eva’s not around and do their own thing afterwards.
Tallest Red: When Orieon met him, he was so shocked at how identical they are. Minus their light and dark skin tone differences and their eyes are two different shades of the same color. Orieon only ever heard stories about how his father is a courageous and powerful person, who lead his own army and own countless lands. He is honored by all and is traveling across the galaxy to leave his foot print on the planets he wish to make allies with. Sadly this was not true and his mother was only hiding the real truth about his father in order to protect him. Eva couldn’t tell her children all the horrible details about tallest Red until after he came over to her house. Red met his son and thought he saw a miniature version of himself, back in his elite training days. He asked if he knew who he was and what it means to be his son. Red told his children everything about himself and fill in the blanks that Eva left out. It kinda shattered Orieon’s reality that his father was actually a planet conqueror. He did not want to believe it at first but soon after this reveal, Orieon did not want to be around him. Not like Jovian, who’s been doing his best to earn their father’s praise and attention. Eva had to literally jump between the two when they started fighting each other. Causing her to be injured. One good thing they have in common is that they both are protective of Eva. Red is still new to this whole affection thing and it took spending time with his family to help him understand that.
Bellatrix: He sees a lot of his mother in his older sister. These two keep each other happy and content. Bella finds her brother’s silly antics cute. Orieon likes to set the mood and cheer everyone up. When everyone went to the education program for the foreign aliens that came to planet Neutra, Bellatrix and Orieon got the highest scores there. This is good because these scores will be saved for them and built up over time until they graduate. He had a few haywires with his pak that his sister fixed for him. She’s the only person to know that Orieon can’t read vortian, so she studies with him. Bella was also the one scolding him and Jovian when they were arguing and fighting. She’s the voice is Eva in some way. Speaking up when things get rough for them. Orion admires her for that and the love she shares.
Jovian: His obnoxious older brother, who he often teases from time to time. Jovian is self-centered, narcissistic and a rude boy. It would take a patience of a godly saint to put up with him and his crazy antics. Being the second oldest, he believes he should have the first pick of everything. Eva has had her hands full with this little troublemaker and it continues until Jovian joins the neutralien’s military sector. Having his own unit at his command. Orieon constantly gets into petty arguments with him and it would end up with them fighting physically. Orieon made it slip when he mocked Jovian for being small and that their father likes him better. This ended with them both being grounded by their mother. Their relationship is a little shaky but they balance out on common grounds. Like caring and protecting their mother. Have the same interest in advance technology and science. Food and their heritage.
Nixy:
Dib: This human confuse him. He has never met someone who’s species is so young and outdated. He got to know Dib after he and Zim landed on planet Neutra. When they met, Orieon could barely understand him. He was speaking a different language. Turns out it was Irken. He got to learn that after spending time with Zim. The human boy felt a little unease when he met Orieon because of his similar look to tallest Red. He would avert eye contact when the irken hybrid stares at him. Dib eventually realized that this kid’s not Red and will never be like his dangerous father. He sat down with Orieon and his siblings and began to talk about his home planet, Earth. He thought that it was silly that humans live such a lifestyle and wonders why they never thought about extending their knowledge to other planets. That and why their lifespans are so short. Orieon also got the chance to know what happened on the massive from him. That there’s a battle to be fought against the Irken empire. Before he left the planet with Zim. Dib gave a communication address to Orieon, so that they can always keep in touch and he can let him now how Eva’s doing. Giving him updates here and there.
Zim: He only heard the stories from Sepher and Bob about this specific Irken. That Zim is a destructive force of nature and that he thrives off of causing trouble for everyone he come ls in contact with. Orieon is weary of him being around his family but after spending some time with him for a day, he learns that Zim is not all at fault for his own actions. He can’t help being a defective. Zim taught Orieon how to read and speak Irken. And just like his older brother and sisters, he got to know more about his Irken culture from him. Excited that not only did Zim gave him new knowledge about the other side of his family but he also gave each of them their own Irken tablet.(Except for Nixy. She designed hers and with her own symbol marking on the back of it.) Orieon hasn’t disregarded any of Zim’s past deeds but he’ll acknowledge the ones he does now. If what Dib said is true, then he’ll be well taken care of on Earth.
Zora: Orieon was still small at the time and only just left his mother’s coddleness and her nest to join his littermates in playing around in their room. Orieon got adventurous and slipped out of the house. He went as far as to the open fields and from there he met a little neutralien girl named, Zora. He had never seen her around before and neither did she. He got to know her a little after they took off chasing after little glowing buggies that light up the night. Illuminating a pathway in a bright light of blue to them. Orieon felt shy because this is his first interaction with a girl, other than his two sisters. Zora was kind to him and did not fear him like most other aliens have since they saw him. Orieon had to lie to his mom about his little escaped act that night and even now still hides the fact that he has a crush on Zora. He hasn’t seen her since she’s been picked up by her family. They’ve put her in the medical school, where she will be on and off the field. Treating patients. Orieon misses her but would get calls from Zora on his gauntlet.especially during his own training time.
*EXTRA*
•Orieon got his name from an old friend of Eva’s.
•Just like his older brother, Orieon is a mamma’s boy.
• He had Nixy upgrade the translator in his pak.
•Orieon grooms his antennas often.
•He screeches like a raptor.
•Orieon has his first crush with a neutralien girl.
•Him and His brother are the ones among their siblings who can’t touch water.
•He and Bellatrix are comfort buddies.
• Orieon and Jovian are at a sibling war with each other. They try to out due one another.
• He eats pretty much anything except soft slop.
•Has a soft spot for some animals.
•Orieon grew to be the exact height as his father.
*DIALAUGE*
“I can’t believe that I’m related to a jerk! I don’t know what you did to her but you made my mom cry! In fact, whenever she even looks at me, she sees YOU! No wonder I’m wing scorn so much!”
“Just admit it. You’re jealous because mom gives me more love than you, Jovian.”
“Stop projecting yourself onto me! You may be my father but I’m NOTHING like you!”
“Old ancient historic books like these need to be preserved at all cost. We can’t let this important information be lost forever. Who would want to forget how their species came to be?”
“Bella? I envy you for not having to put up with others calling you a half breed. Me and Jovian can’t even walk as far as the snack vending machine without someone calling us out and wanting to kill us for looking irken. Calling us freaks and insulting our mother for having us here on this planet.”
“I want to do my part in changing the world! I know it’s a big step for someone who’s only ten years old. But I want to help this planet grow stronger, more advanced than ever before! I know about the threats towards it and it’s only a matter of time before trouble comes our way. We’ll need a fighting force!”
“Ouch! Is this really how a pak suppose to be installed? Right through my spine? I thought irkens wore some magnetic plate on their backs that makes the pak work and send wave signal to the brain in order to function it mentally. Not this drilling sensation that feels like my back’s gonna spit in half!”
“Mom? I was wondering if you can tell me about dad? I’ve seen other kids with both of their parents and it made me want to know about him. Does he look like any of us? Is dad an Irken or a vortian?”
“You speak to me as if I’m not important, but I am. My father is the one person you don’t want to cross. If he knew what you said to me here, he’ll be sure your life is forfeit. So you’re either with me or against me!”

Beautiful Venice

Who wouldn’t fall in love with beautiful Venice? This unique city sitting on its own lagoon where everything is connected by the canal system, is an amazing place; but it’s also a challenge.

The maze of narrow streets, bridges and waterways combined with thousands of tourists and 30 degree heat made Venice an exhausting prospect. Luckily, we were staying just a 20 minute ferry ride away so it was very easy to get in and back out again.

We loved the history and the architecture - beautiful St Mark’s Square where a four piece band played to diners and those who had stopped for a coffee or a glass of wine. Doge’s Palace was incredible and we enjoyed the view from the Rialto Bridge along the canal as the gondolas manoeuvred through the busy waterway.

We also found the Bridge of Sighs - a famous Venice landmark - which connects the palace to the old prison cells.

Searching for an escape from the crowds, we headed for the Ca’ Rezzonico, a Baroque palace on the Canal Grande now the home of a museum on 18th Century Venice. At the back of the museum there is a peaceful garden and a fountain where turtles and Coi Carp live. It was the perfect place to rest in the shade before the next round of sightseeing.

Obviously, the city has its fair share of designer shops and in the shopping centre tourists can book a free ticket to go onto the roof for a view of the city. Alex took the lift to the terrace - but unsurprisingly I stayed below!

Our final stop was at The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari - the largest church in the city - which houses, among others, the tomb of the composer Monteverdi, a pioneer of Opera. So much history but we lost our way more than once, and had to catch a later ferry when we couldn’t find the terminal, as we tried to navigate this unusual city.

amsterdam, netherlands
you know when you get to a new place, one that you've google mapped thoroughly and where you've managed to convince yourself that you can walk everywhere? "25 mins from the hotel to restaurant? not bad! i'll just sightsee on the way!" well after day 2, and some very sore legs, i gave up on the that idea. i surprised myself by figuring out the local transit system - even if it was mostly borne out of necessity. old cities have my heart because of all the rich history encased within the walls of gorgeous old buildings, uneven cobblestones that many have walked on, and the otherworldly charm in the air that you can't quite put your finger on.
i can have a slightly addictive personality when it comes to collecting, so you can imagine how things unfolded when i discovered this series called amsterdam streets (https://www.amsterdamstreets.nl/en). cute miniature handmade and handpainted houses based on actual buildings in amsterdam that you can line up next to each other? i need all of them. if you put a bunch side by side, you've got a street. if you collect enough, you could have the whole city! cue rabid trekking to at least 8 different souvenir shops in search of these.

STAY
citizen m south pr. irenestraat 30, 1077 WX amsterdam, netherlands a favorite hotel chain of mine at this point. it's weird, fun, and perfect for one person. this particular location was right off the station zuid stop, super convenient.

DO
rijksmuseum museumstraat 1, 1071 XX amsterdam, netherlands so much beautiful art housed in one place. full of vermeers and rembrandts. not to mention the architecture - i was oohing and ahhing every corner i turned.
canal tour after sorting through what seemed like hundreds of listings on viator, i booked an evening excursion with flagship amsterdam that began in daylight and ended with the street lights turning on at dusk. what better way to get the lay of the land than hopping on a boat tour? they all started to look the same after the third canal we went through. i couldn't tell east from west. but it was certainly relaxing and beautiful, and we got an hour long lesson with jokes intertwined.
9 straatjes a historical and picturesque neighborhood that's worth a stroll.
holland huis leidsestraat 49 BG, 1017 NV amsterdam, netherlands look no further for all your souvenir needs. they had the amsterdam houses i was obsessed with and were super friendly to boot. the cashier wrapped up each house i bought with care, all the while making conversation.
daytrips belgium borders the netherlands from the south. it's a stones throw away, and so are 3 other hotspot cities within the country that can be all seen in one day: delft (known for delft pottery), rotterdam, and the hague. the latter has mauritshuis, an art museum housing the girl with the pearl earring. and madurodam, a theme park with miniature scaled versions of dutch landmarks.

EAT
de kas kamerlingh onneslaan 3, 1097 DE amsterdam, netherlands a beautiful greenhouse style restaurant in the middle of a park that was such an unforgettable experience. i loved the concept of using veggies from their garden in the dishes. you can pick from a fixed menu of 3, 4, 5, or 6 courses, which changes seasonally. every time a new course came to my table, they would stand there explaining what was in it, and i'd be typing furiously in my notes app. reservations need to be made months in advance.
tasters: gazpacho . green veggies cucumber . tahini . zatar spice cantaloupe melon . basil first course: tomatoes . gooseberry . kosho . buckwheat
second course: lettuce . vadouvan . yogurt sauce . rubber bean . white currant
third course: (i substituted a vegetarian dish in lieu of a mussel one) zucchini flower filled with potato . aji amarillo . baby zucchini . crispy corn
fourth course: pistachio ice cream . strawberry . raspberry . shortbread . saffron . orange blossom
fifth course: violet ice cream
meatless district bilderdijkstraat 65-67, 1053 KM amsterdam, netherlands vegan-based takes on popular dishes such as a "chicken" and "bacon bits" caesar salad with garlic thyme croutons and "parmesan". i was impressed by how real it tasted. the ambiance had a very farm to table feel.
