You need to view your blog not merely as a platform for sharing thoughts but as a dynamic tool for engaging potential customers and boosting the online presence of your business. There is a need for seamless integration between the blog and the business it represents. What to expect when starting up a small business/ brand from scratch…………………………………………..When it comes to growing your brand, there are no shortcuts. You have to put in the extra effort and do things that nobody else will do. It is all part of the journey, and while you may not see results right away, it doesn't mean you should give up or lose faith. With dedication and hard work, anything is possible! Think about it - when a business is just starting out, most of the time profits won't be seen for quite some time. This can be discouraging but if you know that what you’re doing has potential and value, then nothing should stop you from pushing through those difficult times. Sacrificing today could lead to great rewards tomorrow - start small and gradually build your way up! The most important thing to remember is that no journey ever comes without obstacles. It's all part of the process and although it may not be easy, it will ultimately be worth it in the end. If you can stay motivated and focused despite setbacks, you’ll find yourself miles ahead of where you started. So don't give up - believe in your vision and keep going! With dedication, hard work, and perseverance, you'll eventually get to where you want to go. Good luck & keep pushing forward! Keep in mind that there will always be difficulties when trying to achieve something big - but if you have the passion and drive to get there, you will. It might be hard, it might take long but jthe rewards are much greater than anything else. ……………………………………………………….#startsmall #dreambigstartsmall #dreambig #start #Perseverance #hardwork #dedication #smallbusinesstips #smallbusinessblog #nxtlevelartblog #struggleisreal #journey #theprocess #smallwins #smallbusinesssupport #smallbusiness #inittowinit #neverquit #strength #motivationalblog (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmqLPCosw7U/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Starting a Small Business
Tumblr media
Living in the Niagara Region in Canada, I feel like I live in the heart of small businesses, Etsy shops and tourist destinations. I would say that I did my fair share in the tourism industry already. By that I mean, I worked in fast food where tourists stopped on the way to Niagara Falls for 7 years. I’m talking busloads after busloads of people!
I’ll admit, I’ve wanted to have a small business for quite some time now, with one failed Etsy shop under my belt already. I previously tried selling my aunts jewelry and my crappy paintings and it tanked. I’d like to blame it on timing, but I really had no idea what I was doing. Now, I have the time to dedicate to getting a small business up and running the right away. When before, it was all about the quick profit and “booming business.” I’ll tell you right now, with the limited experience I have, that just isn’t going to make a small business successful.
So far, I’ve learned that “good things come to those who wait,” and “success takes time.” I started by unintentionally stumbling across a video online that showed me how to do a specific type of painting. I thought, “Hey, I have all the time in the world during quarantine. I should do this with my wedding photo!” So, I dug out my paint set from the back of my closet and got straight to it.
I was impressed on how easy it was to do it. My husband said it was good and I said “but it’s so easy!” May I add, my husband has absolutely no creative bones in his body, so I could draw a circle and he’d tell me it was gorgeous. I found it relaxing and fun to do. So I put together a couple others. As time went on, I got the hang of the detail work, some shading, and even being different with my concepts.
I was starting to toss around the idea of starting a shop but was it really something that was in demand? Instead, I started an art account. I didn’t want to blast my current Instagram followers with tons of art content if it was something that they weren’t interested in seeing. It was simply just a space for me to share my work.
Then, a friend of mine from college connected with me and wanted to know if this was something I was taking commission for. I have to admit, I felt like this was a sign. I was already thinking about it and I felt like this was something that was just meant to be. I agreed after seeing the picture but said I would get back to her about the price.
After considering my options with my husband, I decided I was going to move forward with it. But I needed to figure out how exactly I was going to do it! I couldn’t imagine painting one painting and selling it and that being it. What if more than one person can enjoy it? That’s when I thought of the option of having a digital download, where you get the print yourself. Or, ordering different sizes of prints. I know in the past, the size of a print has deterred me from purchasing it.
I got back to my friend with the price and the rest was history. I was so nervous to paint it, but I must say. I am so very impressed. Because she also lives close to Niagara, she’s a lucky lady and gets a personal delivery. I’m dropping it off tomorrow and I am so so excited for her to see it.
The day after I finished that commission and I converted my art Instagram to my new name: Millie, Bo & Co., another friend of mine wanted me to do a commission for her as a gift to another friend. I was starting to feel more confident and decided I needed to launch this Etsy shop as soon as possible.
I started to plan all the different types of paintings I wanted to do. I stand by wanting to have a wide variety of fandoms, celebrities, shows and movies. So I made a big long list of them. I started to prep and slowly but surely, I realized that if I launched when I wanted to, I would have MAYBE 2 prints ready and even if so, I didn’t even have a plan as to how I was going to make my prints. I can’t afford to be printing them off of a home printer!
That’s when I re-evaluated and decided that it was OKAY to take a step back. To take my time, make sure that my future customers received quality products and great customer service. Now, I’m at the point where I am seeking quotes from both local and franchised shops to make my prints. I have done research on the best way to ship my prints and ensure that they aren’t damaged in transit.
I am so excited to see where this is going to take me. I feel like I have the social media side of things on lockdown. But everything else is a big question mark for me. I’m taking things one step at a time and would love to have at least 10-15 different types of prints available for my launch. Fingers crossed for an end of July launch!
With that being said, I wanted to make this a positive and exciting time for everyone. I will be doing a giveaway where someone will win 1 free 8x10 print of their choice. Stay tuned for those giveaway details.
I’ve also been spending a lot of time exploring the art community on Instagram and have decided to make 2 separate blog posts a week. I may be adding a lot to my plate, however I want to share the art that I have found on my daily business adventures online.
I hope to see you back here on Tuesday, where I show you the first blog instalment of “Art I Loved This Week.”
Until then, continue shining bright. Thank you for supporting me!

Blogging Tips for Small Businesses
Blogging can be a great way to connect and create a bond between your business and potential customers. Blogging can be engaging and empowering. It opens the door for your customers to get to know your brand. With that in mind, here are a few tips for creating a business blog.
Know your audience! The material you post should be engaging and directed toward your target audience.
Be consistent. Everyone understands that you don’t have time to sit down and create a masterpiece of a post every night. That doesn’t mean it’s okay to sit down and post 6 posts tonight because you have the time. Most blogs allow you to schedule posts. So spread them out!
Be engaging and interactive with your audience. The best way to keep their attention is by engaging with them directly. Post polls or conversation pieces. Get them talking, thinking, interacting with your brand.
Spread the word about your blog. Share your blog posts on other social media sites. Most blogs let you cross post or share directly from the platform.
#Hashtag those posts. Hashtags help to get your posts seen by different groups. It helps to get your post noticed by searchs.
Share. Sometimes the most interesting thing you can do on your blog is to share something from someone else or share some knowledge from someone in your company. You don’t have to be the author of every post. Mix it up. Share the fun.
Small business blogging can be a fun way to share who you are as a business, and what you are about. Think of blogging as another way to get social with your people. A way to introduce them to your brand.
