Connecticut Half Time Snare Drum Solo by Jim Caron

This is a rendition of the Connecticut Half Time Snare Drum Solo, written around 1930. Military style, competitive drumming was obsolete by the 1980's, the old style replaced by modern drums with a different purpose. I have chosen to play this with 5 stroke rolls instead of 7 stroke rolls which would start on the left hand, I like the sound, many drummers playing this will attempt to crush seven 32nd notes into  the space of five. When played correctly, the seven stroke roll is consistent with the musical notation and makes a more continuous sound than the 5 stroke roll.

A while ago, I was in a Discord chat discussing (ahem) what kind of underwear different fictional characters might wear. It made me recall the old Star Wars book The Paradise Snare, written by Ann C. Crispin, and specifically the section at the beginning of the book where the author thanks various people who helped her when she wrote it. Among the thanks, there's this one:

For those of you who don't know, West End Games were the publishers of the original Star Wars tabletop roleplaying game, a classic in the genre.

You might ask yourself, "why did she ask the roleplaying guys about Han's underwear?" But to me, it makes perfect sense. If you have a question about some minor, esoteric, seemingly insignificant detail about a fictional setting, the people making a roleplaying game about that setting are the ideal people to ask. Because you never know what kind of crazy stunts the people playing a tabletop roleplaying game might decide to try, or what seemingly insignificant object might become important to them. A good gamemaster has to be ready for anything, either through improvisation or through having anticipated it ahead of time. And presumably, most RPG creators have had some experince with being gamemasters.

I can totally imagine the players going "Okay, so our plan to sneak past those stormtroopers involves our underwear. What kind of underwear are we wearing?"

And the GM will think "Shit, I never thought about that. What kind of underwear would exist in this setting?"

Sometimes it breaks my heart to remember that Jarik Solo would have been just about Luke's age when he died aiding the rebellion, and just a short time later Han met Luke, who is so much like Jarik in so many ways, and in spite of not wanting to get involved again went back to save him from meeting the same fate.

Slipknot - The Blister Exists 2004

"The Blister Exists" is the final single from Slipknot's Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) album. "The Blister Exists" is known among fans for its snare drum solo. The song appeared in the video game Prince of Persia: Warrior Within.

Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) went onto many national music charts. It reached number 2 on the US Billboard 200, and number 5 on the UK Albums Chart. The album had six singles, including "Before I Forget" for which Slipknot won their only Grammy Award in 2006.

"The Blister Exists" received a total of 47,4% yes votes.
