Six Seven Sentence Sunday (+ Bonus Songs!)

We have a title! Give it up for The Eternal Life of Baz Pitch, my Addie LaRue x Snowbaz AU.

We also have 8/14 finished chapters, 5 of those post-beta and revisions. With that said, I am also drafting out of order. I'm not gonna lie -- writing the slow-burn romance is killing me, which is where I am chronologically. (Any advice would be appreciated!)

To procrastinate, I keep skipping ahead and writing later chapters, because writing the dark is WAY MORE FUN! In any case, I am making good progress and maybe I can start posting soon...

Given the nature of this fic, I can't keep revealing tidbits without giving up the plot/twists, so have seven out-of-context sentences that I wrote this week.

The dark cocks his head, watches him approach, and then smiles when Baz’s fists fail to make contact, flailing helplessly against shadows and smoke.

The dark’s eyes crackle an electric blue. His shape, although still vaguely human, swirls and seethes like a pot left to boil over.

That night, he meets Penny, all frazzled curls and feisty hugs, and she makes a very good friend indeed.

Simon grabs a cup and waves it with a smile. “How about a cappuccino? You look the type to appreciate air masquerading as milk.”

Also, because I really appreciated @bookish-bogwitch's process post, here are two songs I've been listening to on repeat when I have to write the scenes with the dark-- in case that provides any insight on the character!

And another one--which was key for one of my favorite chapters of the fic so far-- set in Vegas.

It’s a Catastrophic Blues week so we’ll start with a blurb from the upcoming chapter :

“I think it would do you both some good,” Fiona says, and for the first time in my life I know she’s being earnest.

And she’s bloody right, damn her.

Maybe we can close some doors in this abandoned house of ours.

“I’ll – I’ll wait outside.” I tell them.

“Bollocks,” Fiona says, grabbing me by my shirt sleeve and pulling me further into her flat. “You’re going to sit here with Aunty Fi and Uncle Nico and we’re going to make awkward conversation like the family we almost were.”

And since I’m still knee deep in a spicy scene for Sugar, We’re Going Down Swingin:

“Simon,” I plead.

“Parience, babe.” he says as he continues his descent.

My cock jumps and hits him in the chin. I throw my arms over my eyes to shield me from another embarrassing moment. Honestly, quick bathroom handies with a random club guy are a lot less work than this.

“Do you like that sweetheart?” He asks and my cock betrays me again.

“I’m begging you to stop. He’s never been called such nice names and it’s going to his…head.”

I don’t know if that will stay, but I got a good chuckle as I typed it.

I'm-Not-Going-To-Count-These-Sentences Sunday

Thank you @aroace-genderfluid-sheep and @hushed-chorus for the tags! (Guess what hushed-chorus I did that thing we talked about.) Also thank you to everyone who has tagged me on other WIP-days! I really appreciate it <3

So... I'm not counting sentences this time. I write long sentences, and I make rabid use of sentence-extending punctuation. And I have this thing about posting excerpts that are semi-contained in some way. Plus it's going to take me forever to get this fic posted, so I gotta give ya'll something. THUSLY: Here have a bunch of words.

(I really should have pinned my bi-weekly updates on Wednesday, but OH WELL.)

Context: Baz POV, with Agatha in the chapel after midnight, being 17 year olds. Simon is out of the picture after Baz kinda sorta stole his voice with a tape recorder in fifth year.

“I never thanked you for saving me,” she said, with just a little too much effort at nonchalance. “You did, actually,” I said, not slowing, or sparing her so much as a glance. “You might recall how you resembled a hypothermic beached mermaid? You were quite free with your gratitude once you caught your breath. It was all very melodramatic.” There was a brief pause - possibly an attempt to work out whether my description of her was complimentary or not. Either way, it didn’t deter her. “I never got to thank you the way I wanted to,” she said, a hint of a whine working its way past her shoddily built facade. I didn’t answer right away as I fought down a sudden surge of irritation, one that threatened to trigger my more destructive tendencies - self-destructive, perhaps, but not exclusively so. The only thing worse than being considered a villain was being cast as a tragic hero - someone only misunderstood, just waiting to be saved. “Basil—“ she began, apparently ready to try something else. I stopped short, forcing her to halt both her forward movement and that regrettable demonstration of poor judgment. We were at the entrance to the chapel, now, and it was easy to crowd her against the cold statuary. “How exactly did you want to thank me, then, Wellbelove?”

Later it's entirely likely these two are going to put special effort into trying to forget any of this ever happened, because teenage mistakes are brilliant like that. You're welcome, Bazatha.

Also, super stoked to be working on a couple @caught-on-tape-fest podfics as well as cowriting with @ileadacharmedlife for the @carryon-reverse-bang. Wheeeee I can totally do this all! >.>

This Rotten Work Playlists: Daiyu Edition!

As @evelynhug0 so kindly requested, I'm going to release each of the main character playlists (and one for the main ship, Rachel and Daiyu) once a week leading up to the release of the book!

Second up is Daiyu Nightbane, our dear archrival of the main character draped in fire symbolism, severely repressed sapphic feelings, and a whole lot of trauma (aka the lesbian Baz Pitch or Henry Fox-Mountchristen-Windsor of this story). The "fell first" part of the "she fell first, but she fell harder" equation, she is the daughter of the evil Headmaster of their magical school but had to repress that shit deep because the very person her father was replacing her with as his heir is the very Chosen One that she has a crush on, but that Chosen One is Rachel, aka a girl, and that is very much a no-go. Daiyu just wants to live a normal life, enjoying Shakespeare and coffee (her two favorite parts of the Normie world), but plenty of people see her as a bargaining chip or want her to atone for her father's actions. Oh, and Rachel would rather fight her than give her the time of day.

As Rachel describes her in Chapter 15:

"Daiyu's sitting on the window seat, staring out over the cityscape. Her hand is casually flung over her knees, mug clasped in her fingers. The streetlight outside the window throws dim, orange light over her features, illuminating the red rimming her eyes. I can smell something stiff sloshing about in that cup, something that closely resembles the bottle of vodka in my nightstand. Maybe the huangjiu, maybe something stronger. In Daiyu’s free hand, hanging by her side, tiny fire sylphs dance, little yellow flames throwing flickering shadows across her face.

By HaShem, she is gorgeous.

Despite the solemnity in her expression, she’s so beautiful. She was called the golden light of the Rising Sun, and that title wasn’t wrong. Even without her spangled red robes or gold ruqun, even without her crown, she is captivating, elegance and allure arrayed about her. Her posture is perfect, her spine lined by power and strength, even in Normie clothes with a half-working wand."

Today I have a cute little snippet that ended up getting cut for a few different reasons. You could probably put this in any snowbaz enemies-to-lovers fic, honestly.

Simon POV:

One minute I’m reaching up for Baz's mouth, the next I’m tumbled on top of him, his hands grabbing around my waist, my neck. “What the fuck,” I laugh. He shoves me again and rolls on top of me. Props himself up on one elbow and smirks down at me. “Better?” “You really are trying to ruin my life,” I mutter. He cradles my head in his cool hands and tips my head back, landing a kiss on my mouth. “Mmm,” he grunts. “I haven’t even begun to try.” “You –” he’s not letting me speak – “you” – he starts giggling, and I manage to get it out – “you pushed me down the stairs!” “You know that was an accident.” I roll on top of him, pinning him with my hips. I tug his hair away from his face. He lets out a shuddering sigh that I cover with my mouth. “You absolute nightmare,” he whispers.

Baz Pitch Playlist

Character playlist for Baz Pitch from Carry On by Rainbow Rowell, and other Simon Snow works.

Baz is one of my comfort characters, just because he has barely had a day of comfort in his life. I made this playlist with specifically Watford Baz in mind, because I love a good doomed pining plot line (and I was inspired by a few fics along the way!) When I first read Carry On, I loved Baz' character because he was depressed, gay, hopelessly in love, and prophecized to (probably) die.

I just want to start off by saying thank you to all who read, shared, reblogged and commented on the newest chapter of Sugar, We’re Going Down Swingin. It felt like never ending love and it’s still going. So thank you.

Heres some of what I wrote yesterday :

“Looks like I’m not the only one getting a talking to today, Love,” I holler into the next room.

“Did you just call me–” Simon says, literally sliding into the room on his socked feet.

I open the door before he finishes and the tornado that is our managers comes rolling in, both with fingers and threats pointed at us. I can’t make heads or tails out of anything being said to me and Simon looks like he wants to hide behind the nearest curtain until the noise stops.

I will start posting the playlist prompt Fic this Friday. Official title Catastrophic Blues. It’s being beta’d by the wonderful @imagineacoolusername , I simply couldn’t do it without them. Here’s some if that.

“There’s a pub just round the corner, fancy a drink instead?”

I really shouldn’t.

I told Penny I’d stop drinking so much. It was getting out of hand. Worse than before, even.

These songs are from several playlists, because there are a lot of letters *ahem*. But the first playlist I raided was my WIP Snowbaz playlist. I'm not telling which songs are from which playlist though. Tee-hee.

I tried to do a variety of music types... at first. Then I was just looking for songs I knew I listened to a lot/loved that matched letters. So I think I ended up with a pretty definite pop to rock range. There's a vibe. (I think it's a good one, though...)
