How to pitch a softball

1.     Spins

- spins are the most important thing to being a good pitcher. Spins are what make someone pitches move and make the ball much harder to hit when the batter makes contact because the spin on the ball is so good. First you want to be able to grip the pitch so you can pull on the seams of the ball to get better spin. Then, you spin the ball towards you catcher while only being about 10 ft from them.  

2. K drill

-this drill is going to be where the pitcher actually begins to pitch the ball and get the proper motion down and warm their arm up before we pitch off the mound. The K drill is where the pitcher stands and points their glove hand towards the catcher and the pitcher’s arm is straight over their head. Once they get in the right positioning they are then able to throw the ball to their catcher that is about 30 ft away.

3. All around drill

-the all-around drill is the closest drill that we will get to actually pitching the ball with the full motion. This drill is similar to the K drill but other than that we will be swinging our arm in one full circle motion and pitching the ball to our catcher. This is where the pitcher will work on arm speed and making sure their pitches are going in the strike zone.

4. Full motion pitching

-this is the final step to being able to pitch a softball. This is the most complicated part of pitching because there are so many rules that a pitcher must follow for their pitch to be legal. We have to make sure both of our feet or on the pitching mound to start and then we need to make sure that our dragging foot is on the ground when we step forward towards the catcher. We start with the ball in our glove and then we move our foot and hand forward towards the catcher, at the same time so they are in synch with each other. Then we release the pitch at our back hip and this will get the pitch to begin going towards the strike zone.
