The Guru Re-watch
I enjoyed this episode a lot more than the last one for 2 key reasons
DANGEROUS LADIES
I've calmed down a tiny little bit from how mad I am about Jet, I just have to move on (but I never truly will)
Let's talk about Zuzu first. I don't have much to say about him in this episode (for once) other than that I agree with @theowritesfiction that Positive! Zuko is unsettling. Reminds me of the brainwashed Joo Dees. I don't like this Zuko.
Oh wait, let me make everything about Azula like I always do real quick - this version of Zuko isn't the real Zuko just like Canadian! Azula wouldn't be the "real" (or at least not the healthiest fullest version) of Azula (& nice teashop Zuko & Canadian over apologetic Azula are very comparable in my opinion.)
Anyway.
I loved Sokka & Hakoda's soft interactions in this episode.
Tumblr media
[id: Hakoda & Sokka hugging. Sokka is smiling]
I really love the moment when Hakoda says "Sokka, you don't have to prove anything to me. I'm already proud of you and I've always known you're a great warrior."
Also, we've got Aang & his Guru journey learning about chakras. I've always found all the chakra talk a bit confusing but fascinating, so here's a piece of the transcript partially for my own context.
Aang: So chakras are pools of spiraling energy in our bodies?
Pathik: Exactly. If nothing else were around, this creek would flow pure and clear. However, life is messy, and things tend to fall in the creek. And then what happens?
Aang The creek can't flow?
Pathik Yes. But, if we open the ponds between the pools ... [He removes moss blocking the exit for the water.]
Aang: The energy flows! [The water that was blocked by the moss becomes clear. Aang and Pathik smile at each other.]
Next, we learn about the four chakras & watch Aang open them through visions & meditation (& onion & banana juice.) Aang struggles to overcome his shame for burning Katara, his guilt over leaving the world behind, & his fear of facing Ozai. The visions are an interesting exploration of Aang's internal struggles & we do see a lot of growth from how he was at the start of the series - largely in denial about anything he might need to overcome & reluctant to acknowledge or embrace his responsibility. Aang has grown immensely as a character & this is a good episode for him....Until we get to the part where I have some Controversial Tm opinions.
Pathik: The Thought Chakra is located at the crown of the head. It deals with pure cosmic energy and is blocked by earthly attachment.
Aang: What? Why would I let go of Katara? I love her!
Pathik: Learn to let her go, or you cannot let the pure cosmic energy flow in from the universe.
Much like "The Fortuneteller" this is a strong setup for Aang to overcome his unreciprocated feelings for Katara and the show takes it in another direction. I would have really liked to see this show subvert expectations & show Aang overcoming his feelings for Katara. That's just how I feel. It's a disappointment to me that he just leaves when he's so close to unlocking all the chakras.
Anyway, Katara!!! She is so cute in this episode. I mean, always, but like - she takes Momo to tea! She asks for a table for 2! She jokes during a war meeting that they could send Momo to do some damage because he's knocking over the models! I just adore her.
Katara also recognizes Azula from looking into her eyes & I'm not kidding - we get a Zoom in of Azula's eyes sparkling, then a close-up of Katara's shocked expression of recognition. Before anyone forgets that this is an Azutara blog, I'm collecting those breadcrumbs where I can!
Also, this episode is great because we get to see Azula's genius & devious plans unfolding & we get to see the Dangerous Ladies being an iconic trio. +1000 iconic behavior points each for the Dangerous Ladies. (also I am not even remotely keeping track of these points anymore I'll have to count them up at the end so it'll be interesting to see who wins lol!) We even get some domestic Dangerous Ladies content with them talking & cleaning their Kyoshi Warrior makeup.
Tumblr media
[id: Mai with makeup smeared around her eyes halfway through cleaning her Kyoshi Warrior makeup]
I just love Azula, Mai & Ty Lee so much.
That is all I have for this episode!

hello! your zutara posting today has finally motivated me to ask this question because I came to atla very late(last year, to be specific) and I Love It Very Much but am 1000% out of the loop as far as why what remains of fandom (at least that I've seen among my friends) is so very strongly zutara. I'm not opposed to it per se I just don't really know what has driven it to apparently be such a popular ship? can you help me understand and maybe convert me a little bit?
Hey!! Your ICON! :D I can try but I’m not sure how coherent I’ll be; however I AM sure someone a lot more competent will be willing to add to this. Either way, I’m glad you asked because my plan was to drag down as many people as possible with me.
*smacks the hood of zutara* this baby can fit so much mutual love and support!
Tumblr media
This got so long, I’m so sorry. I don’t know how to put it under a cut on mobile and it already got deleted once so I’m scared to mess with it lol. Moving on.
I’m gonna start this with a disclaimer that im on mobile so formatting is tricky and I’m also really new to atla in that I only completed my first watch through in like 2019??? So some of my info is all just based on what I’ve picked up from Discourse 👀 so anyway the sparknotes version: zutara was wildly popular from the beginning. To the point where the atla crew internally disagreed on which ship should be endgame. (Ex. Bryke [showrunners] asked the writers to rewrite The Southern Raiders to make Zuko seem less ideal for Katara than Aang [which failed, depending on who you ask]; the animation team purposefully created a visual parrallel between Oma and Shu in the Cave of Two Lovers and Zuko and Katara in the catacombs under Ba Sing Se in the Crossroads of Destiny; etc.)
Tumblr media
The ship was popular enough that Bryke actually chose to display zk fanart at a con for the sole purpose of mocking the fans, but that’s neither here nor there. The entire episode Ember Island Players, while a love letter to/parody of the whole show, was an opportunity to address zutara’s viability as a canon pairing (while, again, mocking zutaras for romanticizing that catacombs scene). Point is! It’s always been popular but with it not being endgame, there’s got to be something that’s given it staying power.
And that’s honestly got to do with three things: their dynamic, thematic cohesion, and potential.
(You know what... you know what, it’s four things. The fourth is they’re so aesthetically pleasing together and individually. Like, they’re just good looking people [specifically when they’re grown but they’re also cute kids] and that absolutely doesn’t hurt) (but it’s not the Point, it’s just nice to point out sometimes)
The dynamic is hard to get into without also looking at the canon pairings, but I think I can do that without unnecessary bashing. It’s just that part of the magic of zutara is really highlighted by what they give to each other that their other relationships don’t.
First off, it’s classic enemies to (would be) lovers. The absolute truest form of it. It’s not too different from how CS started out: a rogue antagonist with a job to do—but no personal vendetta against the future love interest—who is deeply and emotionally invested in his personal storyline (revenge/redemption) with little regard for how it effects other people after his entire life and genuine good nature are marred by suffering, and a fierce warrior girl with a strong moral compass and her own personal investment in stopping him (protect her family and save the world doing it). Obviously frustration and animosity grew between them by the nature of them being on opposing sides, but that just lends itself to the sweetness of their later reconciliation.
The thing is that while they’re wildly different on the surface (he’s a hot-headed prince of a fascist regime who is trying to capture the Avatar to please his father; she’s a nurturing daughter of the chief who is trying to protect and train the Avatar in order to topple his father’s throne) they find out that they have so much more in common both in their experiences and their personalities.
(What follows is an excessive use of the word “both” and I’m sorry about that)(I can edit it. I can do that. That IS an option............)
They both have an innate sense of justice that they are determined to see done (zuko, at the war meeting, sticking up for the Earth Kingdom kid when the guards torment his family, choosing not to steal from the pregnant couple despite his circumstances, abiding by his word to leave the SWT should Aang come willingly, etc.; katara, literally.... at any point). They both have pretty one-track minds at accomplishing certain goals once they’ve put their mind to it, regardless of a lack of support in that endeavor (it goes without saying I guess, but zuko’s entire hunt; katara’s determination to get the earth benders to fight back, her determination to absolutely destroy Pakku until he agrees to teach her, etc.). They both lost their mothers at young ages. Their worlds are war-torn and traumatizing to them both, if in different ways, but that ultimately forces them to grow up too quickly to be wholly independent individuals. They both have issues with their fathers (for WILDLY different reasons, but). They both hold extreme prejudices that they need to learn to overcome (which ties into thematic cohesion)(bit like Lizzie and Darcy in that way but magnified by a million). They’re both extremely emotional and empathetic—which can and often does result in loud outbursts. Katara’s a bit better adjusted and can temper her anger for longer than S1 Zuko can, but they both feel that anger deeply and have no compunctions expressing it (Katara is, usually, more justified, particularly in S1. Again, S1 Zuko is severely maladjusted but at the point when they could’ve feasibly become a couple, he’s so much better off with the way he carries himself). They both struggle with feelings of inferiority in their bending abilities when confronted with prodigal benders like Aang and Azula, but have the work ethic required to double down and become two of the most powerful benders in the three remaining nations. This is a little more minor but it is a parrallel that appeals to some shippers that they both have these alter egos in the Painted Lady (notably fire nation coded) and the Blue Spirit (water tribe coded) that are pretty different from who they are day-to-day and are useful in accomplishing a purpose that they as themselves cannot.
(I’m.... I just realized that this could potentially get very long. Should I have made a slide show with bullet points??????)
Anyway, similar. I know there’s more but there’s literally so much to love about zutara that I’ll drive myself a little crazy trying to compile all the ways they’re similar. (Just gonna say that at this exact moment I went back to add more similarities.... so okay then)
Once they’ve reconciled, we see how all of these things only lend themselves to a deeper intimacy together than they share with literally anyone else. There’s a steady partnership that positions them as the mom/dad of the gaang, while also providing the support necessary to allow the other to not have to carry so much responsibility. A lot of zutaras will point out how zuko is actually depicted doing the more domestic chores that are normally relegated to Katara once he joins the gaang, since the others in the group are two 12-year-olds and sokka. The one that sticks out the most is how he makes tea for the group and then serves them, while Katara is able to just relax with her friends around the fire. Fanon expands upon this a lot to Zuko helping with the laundry or the cooking or whatever else needs doing since he, as a once-refugee, is used to doing his own domestic tasks. Before Zuko joined, Katara was the one mothering everyone, sewing for them, cooking for them, etc. She’s always tending to the needs of the group, and that includes emotionally. She does the emotional labor for the gaang 99% of the time, but when she’s the one falling apart, she’s usually doing it alone and without the comfort that she normally provides for others. Until Zuko. And that’s before they’re even friends.
Which is WHY people romanticize the catacombs of Ba Sing Se so much. Katara is verbally attacking Zuko out of her own righteous anger but also her own prejudice when Zuko, surprisingly, chooses to be vulnerable with her. He’s been on a journey that’s opened his eyes a bit, but he’s never actively chosen to expose the rawest parts of his past to anyone. But for some reason he chooses to do that with Katara of all people. While she’s yelling at him. He sees her humanity, and for once can look past his prejudice and empathize with her. And this time, when she breaks down, she gets to be comforted. Katara normally talks about her mother when she’s trying to explain to someone else that she sees and understands they’re pain, as a form of comfort to them. Here, Zuko uses the exact same tactic. He sees her and he understands. And for zuko? He’s not being shut down. He’s allowed to articulate his pain regarding his mother without being ignored and made to internalize it, and he’s allowed to process how he feels about his scar out loud without being told that he deserved it. And then he lets her touch his scar, something we’ve seen him actively avoid before. He’s completely open to her and she’s completely open to him and all it took was one five minute conversation. She was about to use the little bit of Spirit water that she had, that she was saving for something Important, to heal the scar that still daily causes him pain just because they had, somehow, connected.
Plus there’s the whole parallel to the star-crossed lovers forbidden from one another, a war divides their people—
Tumblr media
And then zuko messes up, he regresses, he gets what he wants and he HATES it. And the sense of justice he had as a child has been restored to him against his will and he can’t think of anything he wants to do more than the Right Thing, so he joins team avatar. Before he does that though, we get to see his relationship with Mai, which is where comparison really comes in. And what we see is Zuko, fresh off of his encounter with Katara in the catacombs, trying to be emotionally honest with Mai... and getting shut down and dismissed. Which is just how Mai is and it’s fine, but not for Zuko. Still, he keeps trying, and he keeps getting ignored or scoffed at or yelled at. Which is really a larger symbol for how he doesn’t fit in his old life anymore, but again that’s about thematic cohesion. He tries to articulate his anxieties about returning home, he tries to make romantic gestures, he tries to explain how morally conflicted he’s feeling—and Mai diverts to some kind of physical affection to shut him up and a parting comment that is pretty much always, in essence, “I don’t wanna talk about this.” So they don’t. On the other hand, once zuko and Katara are friends, we see him again emotionally distraught and caught up in his anxieties about facing Iroh, and it’s Katara who comes to him and listens to him and comforts and encourages him.
Similarly, we have Aang clamming up and getting uncomfortable whenever Katara shows any negative emotion, usually resulting in him making excuses or running away. Or, in the case of the Southern Raiders, lecturing her on how she needs to just let go of her anger about her mother’s murder. People have talked this episode to death and usually better than I ever could, so imma... keep it brief. There’s a serious disconnect between Aang and Katara in his ability to empathize with Katara and her needs that has her tamping down her vulnerability and amping up her anger. He tells her that he was able to forgive his people’s genocide and appa’s kidnapping (petnapping? Theft??), which is blatantly not true but also not an entirely equal parrallel to Katara’s situation, and continues making these little remarks throughout the episode. But it’s Zuko that Katara opens up to. It’s with him that she’s able to talk about the most traumatic day of her life, and it’s with him that she’s able to get the closure she needs, cementing their bond as friends and partners. This disagreement between Aang and Katara is then... never resolved. They just never bring it up and hear what the other is saying.
There’s a fic called The Portraits of Ember Island that has a line that so completely sums up the heart of the matter for why people love their dynamic. For context, zuko has woken up early to help Katara with the cooking and they spend the whole time just letting one another talk, and zuko stops to ask why she always just lets him talk. And so she stops to ask why he’s always helping, and it goes as follows:
Tumblr media
There’s just... so much mutual support! Trust! Intimacy!! And it just continues like that from the Southern Raiders on, listening to each other, advising each other, watching each other’s backs! And then! Literally saving each other’s lives!! I will never be over the last Agni kai. Not ever. Zuko may have been willing to jump in front of lightning for anyone, but he actually did it for Katara. And in a show, that’s the thing that really matters. It’s a fulfilled trope usually exclusively applied to romantic pairings, and it ended up applying to Zuko and Katara. And then she ran out into the middle of a fight with tunnel vision just to get to him.
Tumblr media
Also!! Also Zuko pushing Katara out of the way of the falling rocks at the Western Air Temple!! And Katara catching him as he fell from the war balloon that he fought Azula on!! Before they’re even getting along, they’re the ones reaching for each other. They come to this place of equal ground, as partners, who watch each other’s backs, call each other out but still listen attentively and understand, and provide the support that the other has been sorely lacking up until they knew each other (whether that be from lack of effort or lack of understanding from others, or an unwillingness to accept it for themselves).
Then, trailing along under the surface of this, we see the themes of the show totally embodied by Zuko and Katara as individuals and in their relationship to one another. There’s a YouTuber, sneezyreviews, who has a, like, 2-hour explanation on why she not only loves zutara but also believes that their endgame would’ve actually elevated the writing of atla to new levels particularly because of thematic cohesion and resolved character arcs. It’s the zutara dissertation I never knew I needed, and it’s funny and eloquent and effective, so I’m just going to sum up her section on thematic cohesion to the best of my abilities and then link it for whenever you have the time. And I HIGHLY recommend it, especially if you want a full understanding of what makes zutara so great and gives it such longevity.
Guru pathik has a line that goes something like this: separation is an illusion; things that seem different are just two parts of the same whole. Iroh also tells Zuko something similar: balance and strength are achieved when the different nations come together and influence one another and celebrate what makes them each unique. And this lesson is a massive central arc that both Zuko and Katara go through, moving past a black-and-white, good guys-vs-bad guys, us-vs-them mentality and into a greyer, more nuanced view of the world. Zuko sees the fire nation from an entirely new perspective and while he still loves and hopes for his nations future, he surrenders his blind loyalty to them in exchange for an unflinching loyalty to peace and love. Katara too had to come to terms with the fact that cruel people exist in the earth kingdom and water tribes, while some fire nation citizens are just regular, kind people who also need and deserve to have someone speak on their behalf. And this is honed in directly on how they view each other. They grow in their individual journeys to be open to the humanity in the other and then, once they’ve found that, they’re able to grow more in compassion for others in a beautiful feedback loop. And this is all matched in the symbolism repeatedly and intentionally associated with them in canon: sun and moon, fire and water, yin and yang, Oma and Shu who found love despite their warring nations. Their individual arcs are completed in each other and complement the themes of atla beautifully.
The canon pairs... just don’t. Which, again, is fine. But the very things that give atla longevity and popularity are anchored in zutara. Kat@ang doesn’t accomplish this. They’re... nice. Sweet. Especially when you erase a good portion of their interactions in S3. It could’ve been just a sweet love story. (Personally, the dynamic between toph and aang accomplish the same thing that zutara does, with complementary personalities that fulfill the theme of opposites blending in harmony) M@iko, on the other hand, is less sweet but I think wasn’t even supposed to last. Zuko’s relationship with Mai seems to represent his relationship with his old life as a whole. He can’t be emotionally vulnerable, he’s goaded into abusing his privileges, his agency and opinions aren’t respected. They just don’t have common ground with which to discuss anything that matters, so they don’t. As far as themes, the relationship doesn’t fit with atla. It’s zuko returning to and sticking with what is (on the surface) like him, what’s expected. Fire nation with fire nation. Fluid water bender with the flexible air bender. Like with like, separated from what is different and challenging and complementary.
And all of these things combined of course lead to the potential for the ship. I don’t know how familiar you are with the post-atla canon but... well, miss “I will never turn my back on people who need me”, miss “I don’t want to heal! I want to fight!” ends up living quietly in the SWT as a designated healer who turns a blind eye to the water tribe civil war happening right outside her front door. Which can be fine! People change! Some people just wanna stay inside. I just wanna stay inside! But the potential future for zutara is so much more satisfying, with Katara becoming the most unconventional Fire Lady the uppity old cads who are stuck on the old ways have ever seen. Fanon has her serving as a voice for the other nations within a kingdom at the point of its biggest political upheaval, as a confidante to Zuko who can actually help him while he’s trying to figure out how to move forward and make reparations. They have the opportunity, together, to accomplish what they both have set on their hearts to fight for: positive change that lends itself to harmony and balance. And the steambabies! A popular headcanon is that their firstborn daughter, the crown princess, is actually a waterbender, which causes such an uproar among the people who are adamantly clinging to the old ways. It’s just a future full of potential to be forces for good together, full of trust, intimacy, joy. The exact era of peace and love and balance that zuko announces that he intends to ring in with the start of his reign as Fire Lord is, again, magnified by the very personal zutara relationship. And we love to see it.
tl;dr zutara isn’t for everyone. Some people just don’t vibe with it. Some are nostalgic. Some love the canon they grew up with. Some have been disappointed for years. Some just see themselves in other characters and want their happiness instead. Whatever the reason, that’s fine. But for me, I love the way these two, from the moment they give each other a fair chance, are able to lower their walls and prejudices to see the other for the kindred spirits they are. They see each other’s humanity, and their response is to pour out love and support and compassion. I love that they’re a power couple in battle. I love the symbolism and, honestly, soulmatism that colors their every interaction. I love that they embody the whole storyline of atla in their relationship and how it develops, which is notably why their seasonal arcs always culminate in each finale with how they relate to one another. I love that zuko adopting a waterbending move is what actually saves his life and then katara’s. I love the chemistry! And I love the future they could’ve had, instead of the ones they were given.
So, in conclusion: I just think they’re neat and I hope you do too, at least a little bit. Even if it’s just respectfully from a disinterested distance cause you do you. And now here is the video I mentioned. I’m sorry this post got so long and then I gave you an even longer homework assignment, but I can’t recommend it enough. She says it all better than I can.

Note
Dating korra would include
BEING KORRA’S S/O[GENDER NEUTRAL]
Tumblr media
BEING ZUKO’S S/O | BEING SOKKA’S S/O
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: life with korra from confession to marriage
WORD COUNT: 2.1k
WARNINGS: no major spoilers
A/N: SOMEONE WITH T A S T E, i hope you don’t mind but i kinda just did the same thing i did for my zuko headcannons so feel free to scroll straight to the during the relationship bit if you just want dating korra h/c :D
also i have 300 followers now what, i literally had 200 like yesterday hi everyone <3 um i really need to start pulling out all the stops
Tumblr media
GETTING INTO THE RELATIONSHIP
she’s a simp.
that’s it. thats the headcannon. she has literally liked you since she met you and has said nothing, but you probably know since she’s so damn OBVIOUS ABOUT IT
korra is very in tuned with her emotions so when she realizes she likes you she’s pretty okay with it, a little more flustered during your interactions, but after a while her goal is to make you feel how she feel which is flustered.
she has no shame though, she knows she is hot and she wants you to know she thinks you are hot
lots of flirting on her end, so naturally you kinda begin to think she is joking and think nothing of it
this was not her intent, and now that you are desensitized to her flirting and not reacting flustered like you did when she first started she is frustrated™
you were not understanding that she very much likes you
stupid
she hasn’t said anything outright to you about it though, which is the main reason you are like lol this is a joke, my crush fake flirts with me i am okay
spoiler alert: you are not okay with this it hurts ow
so now shes getting ridiculously affectionate with you, which, tbh, she always was, but not its RIDICULOUS, korra is out here throwing an arm around your shoulder, randomly grabbing your hand, kissing your cheek
shes trying really hard to get her point across like really really hard
like painfully hard
if she likes you its probably because your fun, like you really spice up her life and introduce her to new things and go on really dumb adventures and really important missions with her and you put up with her and wow now korra is simping oops
you’re also probably forcing her to stay healthy, since i honestly think that despite having such an appetite, korra will forget to eat and take care of herself sometimes.
she is so bad at drinking water i swear to goD
there are two situations here
situation one is where korra finally realizes that you CANNOT READ SIGNALS AT ALL and decides she going to be upfront with you about her feelings
she’s either going to just flat out kiss you next time she sees you or spill all her emotions, of both in no particular order
you’re like reading in your room in the air temple, just vibing, and you see her coming towards you with a determined look on her face and you’re like ??? lol okay
you go back to reading only to have her hand reach under you jaw and she brings you into a kiss and now you’re like LOL OKAY
you honestly think that this is just another one of her stunts to get you flustered and means nothing
stoopid
and then she pulls apart and just starts spilling her feelings and you’re like :O omg me too
and she’s like, “great, we’re dating now.” and suddenly she’s kissing you again, and between kisses you’re like, “im sorry what?”
“you heard me. do you have a problem with that?”
you just kiss her again
situation two is where you get sick of her and realize woah she may or may not be in love with you and so you confront her, and now there is a lot of yelling because you are frustrated™ and like screw you korra
you honestly think she is either madly in love with you and just doing this as a joke, and you genuinely think the latter is more like so you lowkey start crying and korra immediately begins to panic
she’s like, “why would i ever joke about that! i’ve literally been trying to get that through your thick skull this whole time!”
this time you kiss her first and korra is throwing a party in her head but she also feels really bad for making you cry oops
DURING THE RELATIONSHIP
okay so korra happens to be very much a simp
and you happen to be very much the mom friend™ it doesn’t matter if you are a boy girl or none of the above, that is your trademark my friend
she’s very affectionate and now that the two of you are dating she is at a whole new level.
important meeting? you are in her lap she does not care. war meeting? she is cuddling you as you explain the plans of attack and DAMN DO YOU LOOK GOOD DOING it
since being the avatar is MUCH more a political position now though, she does try to keep your relationship slightly on the down low, even before you were dating, you both had reporters constantly asking about your relationship and she doesn’t really like that
they are nosy and she does not approve. korra understands wanting to know about her avatar duties, but anything outside of that in regards to her personal life annoys her
loves kissing you, and when she does it tends to be intense and passionate. after a particularly tough day though, her kisses can either be slow and sensual because she just wants to have a nice soft and domestic day with you
OR
they can be harsh and almost brutish, she will get rough with you because she is highkey pissed at everything that day and making out you with is her stress reliever
really likes cuddling and anything domestic in general. she’s really happy with you, and she kinda has all the love languages
she seeks validation when the press is particularly harsh since being the avatar is HARD and as much as she wants to, she cannot please anyone, so please tell her she is doing amazing
so many acts of service up in here, she will randomly do stuff for you, spontaneity is kinda her vibe ya know
very vocal and expressive about her feelings, communication is key with her
arguments aren’t a rarity tbh, but when they do happen they tend to be more of debates over little things like what’s better, pineapple pizza or no?
major fights tend to end poorly since she can be a little stubborn when it comes to such things, but she will admit she was wrong and apologize IF she was wrong
if she wasn’t wrong but the argument got out of hand, she’ll apologize for that but will affirm her correctness
kiss her scars, she has them, and she is proud of them but
support her at her pro bending matches and she will DIE, so happy, literally sososososososo happy, hugs you, loves you, yes
treats you as an equal no matter what, even if people think that as the avatar she should see herself as something more than
very protective of you.
like if someone flirts with you, she is clingy x10. if someone hits on you despite your protests, she HITS them. if someone threatens to hurt you, she promises to end them.
MARRIAGE N STUFF
WELP
she’s gonna realize she wants to propose when she almost loses you, or in the middle of a battle. when the reality of potentially losing you hits her she is gonna realize she wants to live out the rest of her life by your side, protecting you
situation one is where she literally, in the MIDDLE OF BATTLE, without a ring, just proposes. you are being a baddie, bending if you are a bender, fighting the opposing enemy, looking MIGHTY FINE while doing it
“marry me.”
you falter, nearly getting hit as your head whips over to her and you’re like, “ARE YOU SERIOUS?”
and she throws a giant rock at the opposition, temporarily indisposing them, “yes?? why wouldn’t i be.”
Someone comes up behind you and you elbow them in the face and ram your foot into their knee, knocking them down, “RIGHT NOW?”
she throws a whip of water in your direction and you dodge it, allowing her to take out the enemy behind you, and you throw a whole dagger at her to do the same. “that was close.” she narrows her eyes at you bc you lowkey look like you wanna kill her rn as you two hide behind a barricade for cover and an explosion washes over it, “you could’ve killed me.”
“you just about gave me a heart attack when you PROPOSED two minutes ago, need i remind you.”
korra raised a brow at you, “is that a no...?”
“do you even have a ring?”
korra gives you a look that gives you the answer and you groan, “i cannot believe you.”
“you really should’ve expected this.”
“i know.”
“i get to pick the ring then?”
“you’re probably going to plan the whole wedding.”
“alright.”
theres a boom from beyond the barricade you two have hidden behind as korra looks to you, “alright?”
“i’ll marry you.” you elaborate, giving her a bright smile.
situation two is more depressing lol
you have been SHOT oops, don’t die pls because korra CANNOT handle it after everything that has happened to her, so if you die she’s done
she’s kinda just sitting at your bed side and it hits her that you could die basically any day now, and she would have so many regrets
she wished she kissed you more, told you she loved you more, held you longer, spent more mornings with you and your bedhead, she wished she learnt to cook so that she could surprise you with a meal when you get home from a long day of work, she wishes she did a lot of things
she wishes you two were married.
korra is now having an existential crisis, and everyone is telling her that she has to go home, get some rest, you’ll wake up eventually, you’ll get better, but you don’t wanna wake up to korra being a mess
she knew they were right, you always scolded her for not taking care of herself, so she decided to follow some of their wishes
Korra cannot bring herself to go home, there are so many reminders of you that it hurts, and she kinda just decides she’ll stay in a hotel and wash up and such.
besides, you are her home.
after leaving the hotel, she ends up going the jeweler and buying the ring she believes screams you
when korra returns to the hospital, she contemplated proposing right then and there, before realizing that you’d probably yell at her for choosing such a ridiculous time and you already had a lot on your plate
once the two of you return home and you are in the midst of recovery, she did learn to cook, so you wouldn’t feel the need to do so, and given your situation she fears you’ll injure yourself further in the process.
you two are eating dinner and you’re babbling on about something you’d read, and she suddenly decides to get up and walk over to you, leaving you like ???
then she gets down on one knee and you are like :O
she’s like, “marry me.”
naturally, you start crying and nodding because wow this is such an intimate moment and just happiness
kissinggggg after that
the wedding is, under NO CIRCUMSTANCE public, the most private and intimate wedding ever. korra hates reporters after her life as the avatar, she doesnt want strangers at her wedding.
any and everyone she has ever fought beside is there though, its wholesome and nice
definitely cries when she sees you at the altar
her vows are MASTERFUL AND TEARJERKING
its a pretty basic wedding though, unless you prefer something over the top, the food is nice a mix of both your cultures and favorite things and there’s beautiful lighting
definitely done on air temple island, and tbh tenzin would probably walk you down the aisle because i said so
married life with her is even better, she lives for he domesticity of it all, especially lazy sunday mornings with the light filtering in and you just looking all pretty and having a lil fun
iykyk
honeymoon in the spirit word lads
bolin is your number one supporter
life with korra is a 10/10 i do recommend it
Tumblr media
A/N: im kinda in love with korra lol this requests made me happy

A Life Wasted
Azula Week Day 1: Childhood
Summary: Azula has trouble coming to terms with that she didn’t really have a childhood and struggles to see a future for herself.
She is surprised to get as many visitors as she does, Azula could have sworn that they would stick her in this horrid place and forget all about her, leaving her to her own nightmares and personal horrors. Somehow they don’t forget her. Somehow they find it within themselves to pay her visits now and then. Sometimes they come with specially prepared meals other times they come only with stories and company.
Azula wishes that she could appreciate it. Wishes that she could push her resentment aside. She wishes that they would just leave her to suffer and fester in her shame alone. It is bad enough having them around to see her like this, to make their judgments. But they have to bestow her with stories about how great the outside world is, about how they have all accomplished so much.
They do so until she one day snaps at them to stop bringing her news. She expects them to stay away from then on out. Instead they come back with tales from the past.
TyLee’s childhood is bathed in shades of pink. She was never alone and was constantly at the tailend of a braid chain. She always speaks of laugher and gossip and trips to the berry fields. Of coming home with smeared cheeks and stained clothes.
Mai’s childhood was more subdued, lonely. But when her parents came home it was warm. They would take her onto their laps and read her stories about dragons and courageous Fire Nation warriors until she begged for a blade of her own.
Katara and Sokka both have frosty and cold childhoods but in the most dreamy way. They both recount different aspects. Sokka tells her about fishing and hunting trips with his father; about adrenaline spikes and hiking around glaciers. While Katara paints a more domestic image in her mind; the smell of cooking fish and firepit smoke. Of heavy coats and fur rugs.
Toph’s childhood was sheltered but exciting when she could sneak away. It was full of adventure and mess. Of tussling with the boys in alleyways and knocking on strangers’ doors and running before they can get to the door.
Aang’s was serene. Otherworldly and mystifying. His childhood makes her stomach ache with longing the most. He speaks of how all of the children were raised side by side. Every adult was a mother and a father to all of them and each child was a sibling to the next child over. Before he found out that he was the Avatar he was never alone. He would munch on pastries and and have glider races.
And Zuko’s...she knows about Zuko’s and she doesn’t want to hear anything of it. It is as unforgiving as her own but in such a different way.
She wishes that she could have had a childhood. Maybe she wouldn’t be this way if she did, if she had been allowed to be a child for just a few years before being thrust into the war machine. Maybe if she had hours of running wildly through the palace garden instead of hours of training and katas she would be less of a weapon and more of a human being.
She stares at her palms, trying to recall even one moment where she had been a child. Just one that isn’t tainted by undertones of political speak and warfare. But she can’t find even one. Even her fondest childhood memories are either followed by something awful or had war in the background.
On one occasion, a golden day on Ember Island--she had convinced Zuko to help her swipe some mangos from a fruit cart just to test their skills. They had snatched one and darted off to climb a palm tree and hide as they tasted their prize. Father found them with sticky mango juice smeared around their mouths and dripping down their chin. That evening they were dirty, disgusting miscreants and he was ashamed to be their father. That night there was no trip to the beach to collect shells and build sand castles, they were locked in their rooms listening to mother and father argue; “they’re children, Ozai! Children do that stuff, let them have fun!” “They have duties to their nation, they are better than other children.” Zuko blamed her for getting them in trouble with her stupid idea and she blamed him for talking too loud and getting them caught.
On another occasion she found herself sitting at the edge of the turtle-duck pond, kicking her feet at the shimmering waters, the sun reflecting on its surface. In one had she held a calligraphy brush which she was using to paint random doodles on her legs. In the other she held a loaf of bread which she was biting into, paying little mind to where she was nibbling on it. She was quite and out of the way so no one paid her any mind. Which is probably why they so openly discussed how triumphantly they had slaughtered Earth Kingdoms soldiers on the battlefield.
Such are the types of memories her childhood is sprinkled with. And the more she thinks on it, the more she realizes how truly and deeply imprinted the war is on her mind. She doesn’t think that she knows anything else but battles and punishments.
She remembers when her mother stopped loving her. When the woman realized that her baby had already been claimed by propaganda and a sense of patriotic superiority. Azula wishes that the woman would have done something more to keep her from succumbing. From falling so deep into the indoctrination.
She remembers when mother had told her that Lu-Ten had died. That was the night that mother stopped loving her. When mother realized--before anyone else--that something was very wrong with her. That was the night when her father had told her just how proud he was of her.
She was finally the weapon he had been craving.
And now she is broken. The remnants of a once mighty war machine. And in a world without war, she doesn’t have much use. She supposes that it is just as well that she is stuck in this institution. She can’t see herself doing anything anyways. Can’t seem to think up any other purpose for herself.
They mistake her low for recovery. She no longer yells and screams and demands that Zuko and his friends be sent away. She is simply indifferent, it doesn’t matter if they are there or if they aren’t. It doesn’t matter if their happy childhood tales make her tummy tingle with sorrow and longing. Nothing matters. She doesn’t matter.
She had wasted her childhood. Now she is wasting her adolescence. Her life is a waste…
Zuko grips her shoulder. Her blank eyes don’t lift from her palms. Not until he helps her stand and leads her out of the institution. She questions his decision but decides that she can’t be bothered to stir up any trouble anyways, so his decision won’t really leave an impact either way.
“I think that it’ll be good for you to get some fresh air.” Zuko comments. “We’re planning on taking a trip to Kyoshi Island and I thought that you should come with us.”
She furrows her brows, “why would you think that?”
He shrugs. “I guess that I want us to both have a few memories that are just...nice.”
She doesn’t think that this is it.
“We can’t exactly make good childhood memories, but we can do this.”
Azula nods.
“I also thought that it would be good for you to start to...get back into the world so you don’t fall behind.”
“I already have.” She mumbles.
He gives her back a little rub. “You’re not too far behind. Nothing we can’t catch you up on. And besides, we’d like your input on certain things. There’s this new city in the making and we think that you’d be good at helping us plan and fine tune it. You’re good with details.”
“What does that have to do with Kyoshi Island?”
Zuko laughs, “nothing. Kyoshi Island is just going to be a break before we really get into it.”
“I’ve already had a break…”
His smile falters but only for a moment. “I guess that you have. But I’m talking about a real break, Azula. Something that could be fun for you if you’ll give it a try.”
She supposes that, at this point, she is willing to try anything to get rid of the despair and helplessness that has taken root within her soul. “It would help more if I can just have a look at this city. I need something important to do. Something that matters.”
“You will be doing something that matters on Kyoshi Island.”
“Oh.” She quirks a brow.
“You’ll get to have a good time and learn about some new cultures. And you’ll get to watch me struggle with awkwardness. The last time I was on Kyoshi Island I...did some things…”
“How is that important?”
“Because it’s about your health and you matter. You know that, right?”
“Important to who?”
He gives her a gentle hug. “Believe it or not, you’re important to me. And as soon as the others see that you’re not a completely mean and angry person…”
“I’m not angry.” She thinks that she has only ever been angry once, during the comet. Mostly she is just numb and unfeeling. Cold. And maybe that is worse than having a temper. At least a temper can be cooled…
“Trust me, this is going to be good for you. I can’t fix our childhood bet we can make something of the future.”
She doesn’t know if she believes him, but she would like to. At least she is out of that facility. At least she can get back to firebending and relish in freedoms to be rediscovered. He smiles again and she decides that the least she can do is humor him. Either nothing will change at all and she will continue on in her melancholy or he will be right and she will pave herself an adulthood that is warmer than her childhood ever was.

_______________________________________________________________________
It was about two hours before the show was supposed to start and Y/N was doing her normal self-routine before she had to go to her ‘Band-Team-Gang’ (or BTG as her and the girls liked to call it) pre-show rituals.
Y/N was a part of a famous girl group who had just recently started making it big in Ba Sing Se and were on their first huge tour. Normally, this would make any performer nervous of the attention and putting on a big show, but this was the environment that she thrived in.
Suki, Mai, Ty Lee, Azula, Yue, and herself all knew each other from an all-girl’s private school that they grew up in together and bonded immediately over their love for creating music. It was inevitable for them to become a group.
They spent most of their high school days writing songs and joking around in Y/N’s backyard bungalow her parents had gotten her for her twelfth birthday. To this day, they still go back there and do hot (dumb) girl shit.
“Why would we stop? That’s our home, of course we’d still go back there!” Ty Lee answered the interviewer with her signature hair flip and giggle.
Azula rolled her eyes at the girl, hiding a fond smile. “At this point, It’d be weird not to go back to that little corner of hell we made.” Yue smacked her arm quickly, “Azula! Don’t act like you haven’t written most of our top hits in the bean bag we definitely didn’t steal from the school lounge.”
The rest of the girls laughed, remembering how they had to hop the gates and sneak past the night guards to be able to get the bean bag. The plan would’ve been a total waste of time and definitely would have gotten them all expelled if anyone had caught them, but thank Mai’s ability to pick locks (which no one knows where she learned to do but they do not question it).
“Plus,” Suki chimed in. “Y/N’s dad makes the best snacks and meals for us. It’d be a federal crime to not take up that offer for as long as we can.”
Needless to say, the six girls were so comfortable with each other that every performance was just like every group practice with, like, thousands of extra guests of honor. They even have a couch lounge area as part of their stage set props. It just makes sense.
Even though those were her best friends ever, sisters even, Y/N had another friend group that she was super close with. Azula had introduced Y/N to her brother, Zuko, back when they were in their sophomore year of high school and the two instantly clicked. It had only taken a year of being friends and hiding crushes for them to get together, and the two were still going strong. Through him, Y/N met a gang of (crazy) people that he had spent his whole public schooling years.
Aang, an enthusiastic and bald, vegan kid who loved life and enjoyed everything around him; Katara, his pre-med and feminist girlfriend; Sokka, her hilarious and amazingly smart brother (though, sometimes his ideas are questionable); and Toph, a blind and tough girl who is on her way to ruin the top 1%. With Zuko, they were the tightest and happiest little family that automatically accepted Y/N when Zuko brought her over one night.
She was there when he went through a pyromaniac phase, his varying hair styles, and when he tried to get his father’s love back.Ozai, their father, was the owner and CEO of a massive weapons corporation. He had burned Zuko’s face on a hot stove and kicked him out of the house for suggesting that he raise the wage of all his employees to a comfortable living wage because many of his employees struggled to provide for their families even though they worked their asses off. Thankfully, his kind Uncle Iroh instantly picked the boy up off of the streets, letting him live with him and run his successful tea shop called the Jasmine Dragon.
Azula had been shoved away by her father mostly for sexist reasons. Ozai would never pass his company down to his daughter, no matter how smart and dedicated she was. He threw her in the private school where she lived year round. She had never told Y/N or any of the other girl’s any of this, Y/N had found out through Zuko.
Y/N’s mother was a successful lawyer and her father was a district attorney who were very very passionate about bringing justice to those of racial discrimination, domestic abuse, abuse in general, and orphan rights. Her mother was an orphan who was plain lucky to get adopted by a loving old couple who used their life savings to get her the education and life she deserved while her father was a victim of domestic abuse.
So, after months of convincing Zuko, Y/N told her parents about the two siblings. Long story short, they got Ozai arrested for his abuse crimes, bribery history, employee mistreatment, and many more crimes. They also adopted Azula herself and gave full custody of Zuko to his uncle.
Since then, the world has been peaceful for the group. Azula has started to recover from her trauma with the help of her friends, therapy, and love from two caring adults; and Zuko was glowing year round in the company of his uncle and friends.
A smile forms on her face, thinking of her large family and all they’ve gone through to get here, when the door to her personal backstage room opened up. The loud voices from Aang and Sokka met her ears next.
“I LOVE YOU SO MUCH YOU REMEMBERED THE HAM SANDWICHES WITH NO CRUST.” A kiss to her cheek and Sokka is instantly at her snack table.
“Y/N! How’d you know I was going to bring Appa and Momo?!” Aang walked his huge, white dog and lemur (don’t ask how he has it. It might be illegal, but no one can tell him no) to the pet bed corner she had put in.
Not answering them, Y/N just smiles at her friends who barged in and turns back to her mirror where she’s trying to decide her earring combination for the day. Warm arms snake their way around her waist, a body sliding up against her back soon after.
“What’s your ideas for tonight?” Zuko’s voice speaks quietly into her ear, causing her to hum and lean back against his chest slightly.
“I’m not sure. We’re going for the edgy look tonight, but we all know Ty Lee is still going to wear pink. Man, our manager is going to kill her...again.” They both laugh. “Ugh, why did you let me pierce my ears, like, ten times. There’s too many combinations to choose from!”
“Me?! I did-- never mind. Just grab a handful, no one can see them from the stage anyways.” Despite his attempt to seem like he doesn’t care, one of his ring-clad fingers starts moving his favorite pieces over into a little pile by themselves. Y/N rolls her eyes and starts putting his choices in random holes in her ear, pushing him back lightly so she can bend over closer to the mirror to see better.
“It’s the fit Zu… if the fit is a vibe, the confidence is there. If the confidence is there, nothing can stop my hot girl shit.” Her words cause him to let a huff of jealousy, flicking her arm playfully.
Their eyes meet in the mirror, and he can clearly see the mischief in them. Calming down, he jokes back. “Yeah, well, you may do your ‘hot girl shit,’ but no one can steal you from me. We’ve been here too long.”
Toph cuts in from across the room with a loud laugh. “Please, fire brains, I could steal Y/N if I tried.”
He whips around to face the short girl, “No you could not!!”
“Actually, she makes a point.” Katara says, nodding along in hopes to pick fun at the boy.
Sokka adds his two cents. “Honestly. Toph would just have to pick Y/N up and slam her against the wall or something and she’d tell her manager to send you a letter of resignation.”
The whole group laughs, save for the angsty boy, and Y/N wraps her hand around his wrist. She pulls him towards her and reaches for a peck on the cheek. “While that may be true,” she gets a glare. “I’m too big of a simp for you… and Uncle Iroh’s dinner and game nights.”
While the rest of them laugh, Zuko’s eyes soften and he presses his lips to hers in a short, soft kiss. Uncle Iroh adores his girlfriend and everything she has done for Zuko and Azula where he had no power to do anything. The man calls her more than he does Zuko himself, and he’s pretty sure Y/N convinced him to download Words With Friends on his phone to play with her for when she can’t make it to the weekly game night dates.
Y/N smiles up at him and pats his cheeks lovingly before moving to the wardrobe area of her room. She pulls out ‘Cards Against Humanity’ from a duffle bag on the floor before joining the rest of her friends around the lounge area, patting the seat beside her for Zuko to join them.
Everyone cheers at the sight of the black and white box with the many expansion packs that they have collected over the years. While Katara deals, everyone else makes bets on who is going to win this time. Y/N slides back into Zuko’s side as his arm comes to rest around her shoulders, playing with the ends of her H/L hair.
It’s about fifty minutes before the show is starting, and Y/N knows she has to start getting dressed and ready for the concert. Sighing, she slips from her boyfriend’s grasp (a small whine coming from him) and moves to her dressing corner. Suki, Ty Lee, Mai, Azula, and Yue had made their way to the room shortly after they started due to Sokka texting his girlfriend (Suki) to come over and join.
The rest of the girls notice you get up and leave as well, much to everyone else’s dismay. You reassure them to keep playing a few more rounds, not wanting to ruin their fun with you putting clothes on. Y/N quickly shoves her outfit choice on which is very hot, black, and riddled with chains. To top it off, she had thick-heeled combat boots on with numerous buckles on them. Her hair, makeup, and accessories have already been done so she heads back to the group.
‘Cards Against Humanity’ has been packed up neatly and her friends are lounging around, getting last minute snacks and quality time before they go to their special seats right in front of the stage. Nothing but the best for her friends. Sokka and Katara are the first people to see her, and the former lets out his own wolf whistle in his own way to hype Y/N up.
“DAMN, my best friend is HOT AS HELL. Zuko, you lucky ass man.” Katara hits him, but shoots her a wink as the rest of the gang look over. Y/N laughs giddily through their praises and hyped words (Toph in good spirit rather than actually seeing her outfit), as she makes her way back to her spot on the couch.
Zuko, who hadn’t been able to take his eyes off her yet, quickly grabs her bare waist and tugs her onto his lap to hold her tight. “So… this is what you meant by ‘hot girl shit.’” Letting out a loud laugh, Y/N turns her head and gives him a quick kiss. “I’m a rock star, baby, what can I say.”
Aang cheers out of nowhere. “Yes! I’ve always wanted to be a groupie!” More laughter and jokes ring throughout the room, keeping the atmosphere as light as always,
A knock at the door interrupts them. A man is standing there in all black with a headset on and a sleek, red (with little sparkles that only gleam in the light), electric guitar carefully caressed in his hands. While they are a girl group, their success has mainly come from being a girl group who also plays all their instruments. With Mai on the drums, Ty Lee on the keyboard, Azula and Y/N on electric guitars, Yue on the acoustic guitar, Suki on the bass; the band is truly a sight with all of them sharing the vocals and their enthusiastic (near crackhead) energy that give their crowd a good show.
“Miss L/N? This is your five minute warning.” He tells them, not bothered by the usual group of people who are constantly in these rooms with her.
“Thanks Lee!” Y/N hops up to get her pride and joy (her child as Suki and Mai like to joke about). “I’ll be right out.”
Knowing these are the last pre-game minutes, everyone starts getting up to leave the room as well. Zuko lingers by Y/N who’s busy making sure her instrument is tuned perfectly for the numbers she’s about to perform.
“I can feel you staring, Zu,” She smiles, still looking down at her strings. He huffs out a laugh, reaching out to push a piece of hair back to see her face.
“Good luck out there, my rock star. Don’t do too much hot girl shit.”
“Oh, I’m doing all the hot girl shit.” A glare. “I’m kidding! I’m kidding… unless…?” She laughs at his fed up face. Reaching up, she presses one last, lingering kiss to his lips, enjoying the feeling of his fingers clutching her sides firmly and the feeling of his heart beat under her palm that’s resting on his chest.
“Bye, love. I’ll see you after the show.” She whispers, sealing the promise with a kiss before moving back. “Alright kids! Get the hell out of my dressing room.” Y/N shouts at her friends and they all leave together, laughing away.
The rest of them wish her luck before moving away, Sokka sprinting to find Suki one last time. Zuko holds onto her free hand, watching her laugh at ‘Simp Sokka’ with his small smile on his face. He kisses her hand, pulling her attention back to him.
“Bye, rock star. I’ll see you after the show. Break a leg, yeah?” His cliche words make her laugh more, pulling away from him and towards the rest of her band who are chanting “BTG! BTG!”.
“Zu… I don’t break legs. I break hearts.” And with one last mischievous look, she mouths ‘hot girl shit’ and struts away in that way that makes Zuko want to make her cancel the show completely.
His phone buzzes a few minutes after he caught up with his friends in their special closed off section on the floor. He opens the notification and it sends him to Instagram where Y/N had tagged him in a post. The smile grows on his face with every second he takes in the post.
Katara must’ve taken the picture. The angle, lighting, and quality could only be done by her. Y/N was on his lap, dressed to go on stage. Zuko’s mouth was almost touching her ear, definitely when he was whispering to her, and her face was wide in a smirk. They looked good, perfect even. The caption is what made him laugh, warmth and pride that she is his spreading through his chest.
“Y/N_L/N: for him? I’m always on my hot girl shit”

Zuko, Theon and Bob Andrews :-"
❇Prince Zuko ➳Sexuality Headcanon: Hounour-sexual but ends up actually falling for trouble-makers. ➳Gender Headcanon: Cis male ➳A ship I have with said character: Zu/toph; On a character writing level Toph's energetic but also grounded personality would have been a great foil to Zuko's melancholy. On a story writing level both would have been an unstoppable force which would have ended the story within a few episodes so the writers had to avoid them going on a live-changing adventure together. ;DD ➳A BROTP I have with said character: Sokka, Aang, of course Iroh ➳ A NOTP I have with said character: Zu/tara; On it's own I don't mind the ship but the fans who earnestly insist they should have been canon-endgame really got on my nerves. The show is over, chill, what is it with people who're dead set of their ship needing to be canon these days? ➳ A random headcanon: Zuko has many domestic skills. Brewing tea he of course learnt fro Iroh but he also likes this space clean and organized. In his spare free time he either feeds duck-turtles or tries to learn gardening. He still regularly kills some of his potted plants. ➳ General Opinion over said character: He really is well written. BUT if I have to read "he had the greatest redemption arc 5eva" again I honestly ask myself how people went through lit classes if they can't recognize a coming-of-age-arc. Generally I love A:tlA as show but the fandom reaches HP-level of needs to "watch another book show!".
❇Theon Greyjoy ➳Sexuality Headcanon: Bisexual, most likely never able to admit it to himself in the Westerosian society. Ah and, canon-wise he's into older women so that's already a given. ;) ➳Gender Headcanon: Cis male ➳A ship I have with said character:Theon x Robb, no surprise there, my first, heartwretching ship in this fandom. Theon x Sansa also kinda peaked my interest (book-vers, though). ➳A BROTP I have with said character: Patreck Mallister. Just thinking how he could have been Theon's second real friend yet also the first one with whom he wouldn't have an imbalanced political-power-relationship. Oh, and of course Asha, when they finally get their sibling-shit togehter. ➳ A NOTP I have with said character: Ramsay, Euron ➳ A random headcanon: Generally I have the headcanon about the Ironislands having a lively culture or tattoos, jewelery and piercings. Theon wears at least two bracelets, and earrings on each ear - all in gold in allusion to his family crest. ➳ General Opinion over said character:My favourite ever since his first chapter, throughout his entire story arc. In my eyes he has the most intimate character arc as many arcs are linked to the larger political events yet Theon's arc is deeply focused of finding self-worth against all odds.
❇Bob Andrews ➳Sexuality Headcanon: Most likely fell in love with female characters of the books he read (Daisy Buchanan, Francesca da Rimini etc.). In real life leaning towards girls but questioning. ➳Gender Headcanon: Cis male ➳A ship I have with said character: None really. But Episode 76 gave me some Mrs.Robison-vibes. ➳A BROTP I have with said character: Justus Jonas, Peter Shaw ;D ➳ A NOTP I have with said character: None either ➳ A random headcanon: Bob loves to collect glasses, some he gets from thrift or antique stores. By now he has one for every possible occasion or outfits. ➳ General Opinion over said character: Always a bit too underused in the first few stories as him being a bookworm personality had to compete with Justus' hyper-intelligent and knows-it-all-personality. These days it's nice to see writers giving him more speaking time.
Send me a character

I like the Zuko x Katara ship I think they would have made an excellent power couple. Its nice she ended up with Aang, but after that I feels she got regulated to wife and mother. In the main show she was so passionate about women's rights in the water tribe and she pretended to be the gray lady to help out the fire tribe village on the river. She fought for what she thought was right. I haven't read the comics and seen to much of Korra but I feel that she lost some of after she married.
I didn’t really like that she ended up with Aang personally, but I don’t think the way that relationship influenced her later growth is unrealistic or discredits her in any way / takes away from her feminism. Her and Aang were both very bold personalities that balanced and brought each other peace, feelings of family, and expressions of domestic care that they had been missing out on. Katara’s evolution to wife and mother doesn’t ring nearly as cliche as it would in another story /because/ of the fact that she lost her mother and only had an older brother and father in her life. IMHO it’s a really common “oldest/only daughter” experience to become a mother figure to your sibling and a support figure to your single parent and to simultaneously rail against it while you’re finding yourself and return to it when you’re craving stability. Katara clearly gained a lot from those domestic expressions of care (as evidenced by her engaging in them with Zuko during his vulnerable moments, and Toph, and Sokka, but primarily in her choosing time and again to seek out Aang and engage him in this really tender maternalistic way to comfort both of them) and the fact that she could engage in them with Aang without ever being made to feel lesser / less of a warrior for it was important to her and the development of her feelings. He respects the hell out of Katara as an instructor, as a warrior, as a friend, and as a woman and doesn’t really see her caring/stereotypically feminine moments as weak - he admires them, instead, as a part of her complete person. It’s been a few years since I last saw the show so I’m not being the most eloquent, but yeah - basically I’d find it cliche as hell in a different show, but ATLA really went out of its way to showcase all of Katara’s sides and give her character a CHOICE, y’know?  I feel like Zuko, as enjoyable as it is in fanfic, never would’ve fallen in love with someone who treated him consistently with the tenderness that Katara finds comfort in and Katara would never be able to comfort herself properly in hard times with Zuko’s constant drive to be active in seeking solutions preventing her from having that kind of quiet time with him. I feel like the things that they use as their personal anchors clash in a way that might make for a fun brief romance, but not for anything lasting.

23. meeting on a train ride au Zutara smut please ;)
Why of course my dear anon! Please enjoy this meeting on a train ride au that ends in wonderful lemony smut! P.S. In case anyone has noticed none of these have been really edited. So sorry for bad grammar and horrible misspellings. :)
Katara blew out a breath as she propped her chin on her knees. There was a soft clicking sound as the train picked up speed. The next stop was in 3 minutes. Then from there it was 2 and a half hours. Two hours and thirty-three minutes. Then she’ll be free. Even if it’s just for a weekend.
Katara sighed and looked at the fast moving trees and buildings. When there was a soft ding of the overhead. Katara pushed her backpack down into the floor. She pulled out her laptop and smiled as she say her last message from Suki. Wishing her a happy birthday.
Twenty freaking five. Katara still couldn’t believe it. Though she had been beginning to feel it. After Suki’s and Sokka’s wedding and Ty Lee and Azula adopting a precious little boy. And that was three years ago. So much had happened. Finishing college and starting work. Job after job interview. Working her ass off in heels and uncomfortable clothing. Being an adult sucked. Why had she ever dreamed this would be great?
The train began to fill up quickly as Katara brought up another email from her boss. More transcripts and insurance papers. More numbers and sloppy written notes needed to be retyped. Katara closed her eyes and sighed. At the bottom of the email. ‘Happy Birthday Kat! -Aang. PS - Don’t feel like you need to do all of this on your birthday. But I need it by tomorrow night.’
“Can’t be that bad.” A male voice came from Katara’s left. “Is anyone sitting there?”
Katara shook her head at the man. “You have no idea.”
“Try me.” The man shrugged.
Katara rose an eyebrow to the man. He was nice looking. Long black hair and golden eyes. A light pink scar on his left eye. He was lean but Katara could see the muscles there under his tshirt. He couldn’t have been much older than herself. “Just remember you asked.”
The guy smirked and pulled out his own laptop. “Go ahead.”
“Okay.” Katara blew out a breath. Should she really tell a stranger all her problems? Probably not. But then again, she’d never see him again. “Turned twenty five today. Best friends are all married. One couple is expecting to adopt again.  Finished college. Not working where I can use my degree. I’m single. Unless you count married to my job?” The man shook his head with a chuckle. “You know five years ago, I thought surely I would have my own photography business. Shooting weddings.” Katara sighed and typed out a reply to Aang. “Yet here I am. Replying to my boss, on my birthday, that I’ll have a rough draft of his contract done within the next two hours.”
The man laughed and typed away on his own computer. “Twenty-five?”
Katara rolled her eyes. “I know I’m old.”
“That must make me ancient then.” The guy turned his head to smile at Katara. “Zuko, by the way.”
“Katara.” Katara smiled and began typing again. “How old is ancient?”
“Twenty seven in a few months.” Zuko said to his computer screen. “Is that why you’re headed to Ember Island? For your birthday?” Katara hummed a yes in reply. “Meeting family?”
“Um,” Katara bit her lip as she backspaced her last sentence. “No, actually  it’s a solo trip.”
“Same.” Zuko nodded. There was a small curse from him. “Well I have a small amount of business but hopefully it won’t take all weekend long.”
Katara hummed and they were quiet except for the clicking of their fingers on the keyboards. Zuko sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, closing his computer. He let out a deep sigh and leaned his head back.
“Can’t be that bad.” Katara mocked.
“You have no idea.” Zuko chuckled back.
Katara rolled her eyes and looked over to him. “Try me.”
“Just remembered you asked for it.” Zuko leaned forward and put away his laptop. “I’m also married to work. Running a business my father wanted my sister to run. Helping out a dying uncle, who was more like a father to me than my real father. I also am dealing with the whole ‘everyones married and on their twelfth child.” Zuko sat back with a book. “And I’m sitting next to a really hot girl who is probably just being nice and returning the favor of me listening to her.”
‘Did he just say hot?’ Katara’s brain shorted. And her fingers stumbled over the next few words. “Lucky girl.”
“Why do you say that?” Zuko shook his head.
“Cause she gets to listen to a hot guy complain about nothing.” Katara raised an eyebrow at her computer screen.
“Nothing?” Zuko chuckled and opened his book. “Says the girl who just turned twenty-five?”
Katara shrugged. “It’s a big stepping stone.”
“Don’t remind me.” Zuko rubbed his head.
Another string of silence stretched through between them. Katara adjusting and revising the contract’s wording. Katara sighed and popped her back. “How long are you here going to be in the Island for?”
“Sunday.” Zuko mumbled. “I hope.”
“Hmm.” Katara looked out the window to the blur of trees.
“You?”
“Tomorrow.” Katara bit her lip. “Late.”
There was another small stretch of silence. “Let me take you out for a birthday dinner.”
Katara shook her head. “No. You don’t have to.”
“It’s a big stepping stone.” Zuko mocked. “And you don’t have anyone else to celebrate with.”
Katara laughed and looked back to her computer. She was almost done with the revision. “I came on a solo trip. Meaning I don’t mind going solo.”
“But do you really want to be alone?” Zuko put down his book.
Katara looked over to Zuko. again. Still slightly amazed at how good looking the man next to him is. “No.”
===
“So there we were in the middle of a forest. Uncle Iroh drinking ‘homemade’ tea.” Zuko was laughing through his whole story. “Turns out to be like the second most deadly poison in those parts.”
“That’s terrible.” Zuko’s laugh was contagious. Katara leaned her chin on her hand that was propped up in the table.
“Oh it was.” Zuko sobered slightly and took a drink. “But now looking back on it. It’s probably the most hilarious thing…” Katara shook her head with a smile. “This is probably the second most hilarious thing.”
“Hmm?” Katara took a drink and raised an eyebrow.
“I want to kiss you.” Zuko blurts out. Both Katara and Zuko’s eyes widen at the confession. “Kat. I didn’t-”
Katara just starts laughing and moves her chair back. They had paid for the meal already and the small diner was already closing up “Your right fucking tragic.” Katara continued to let out a humorless laugh. She turned and was about to walk away before she turned back. “Ha. Because I want you to kiss me.”
Zuko stood and was to Katara in a matter of seconds. In the next breath Zuko’s dry lips were on Katara’s soft ones. Katara whined and wrapped her arms around Zuko’s neck. Zuko held her tight against him. Their kiss was hot and sloppy like they were teenagers again.
“Get a room!” Someone called out from the outside of Zuko’s and Katara’s space.
Zuko pulled back, “Come back with me?”
“I already have a hotel booked…” Katara sighed out against Zuko’s lips.
“I have a whole beach house.” Zuko smirked.
“I thought you said this was a solo…” Katara was interrupted him again.
“Trip. Yeah, I own the house. Old family beach house.” Zuko shrugged. “It would be nice to have someone else there.”
Katara leaned into him. “Zuko.”
“Yeah?” Zuko leaned forward and kissed Katara lightly.
“Take me.” Katara wrapped wrapped one arm around his shoulder. “Now.”
Once they made it to Zuko’s beach house. Katara’s jaw dropped at the size. “You own this?”
Zuko grimaced at the house. “Uh, yeah.” He pulled Katara out of the car along with their two bags. They made it inside and Zuko turned on the light. “Just make yourself at home. I’m going to see if there’s anything to drink.”
Katara nodded and made her way through the beach house. It was large and the living room had high ceilings with a large fireplace and fancy leather couches. Katara watched as Zuko went towards the left side of the living room to drop the bags off by the stairs. Then ducked under the stair case through a small hallway. More lights clicked on and the fireplace roared to life.
Zuko chuckled and patted her shoulder as he pasted. “there’s a bathroom down the hall on the left. If you’ve reached the study you’ve gone too far.”
Katara nodded and watched Zuko click on more light or that showed off a rather large kitchen and dining area. Katara moved to sit on one of the couches. “I’ve got…. Well tap water?”
Katara laughed, “that’s fine.”
“Why are you laughing?” Zuko called out.
“You have a whole beach house with nothing to drink?” Katara laid her head back on the couch and closed her eyes. She heard Zuko approach the couch. Katara’s eyes flickered open.
“Sorry. It was a spare of  the moment trip.” Zuko shrugged. He sat down with glasses and handed one to her. “To growing up.”
Katara shook her head and clinked the  small glass with Zuko’s. “Here, here.”
Zuko sat back on the couch. There was a small stretch of silence between them. Katara watching the ceiling fan above them. Katara turned and looked to Zuko. He looked extremely tired. His eyes were closed and there was a small frown on his lip. Katara felt herself move forward to smooth out the crease between his eyebrows. She was just as shocked as the golden eyes that her lips touched the small crease.
And that’s where it turned almost domestic. Zuko leaning in to cup her face with a soft kiss.  Then his arms wrapping around her middle and pulling her to straddle his lap. Where the kiss turned up the heat and fingers started searching for hemlines, buttons and zippers. Undoing them all to feel the skin beneath. Katara was almost embarrassed by the whimper that escaped her when Zuko pushed her off his lap.
“Come on.” Zuko caught Katara’s fingers and led her down the hallway. She wrapped an arm over her naked breast, her jeans and panties still in tact. Katara was in awe again of the size of the room. Highly decorated in reds and golds. The large bed wrapped in blood red sheets with multiple pillows. Zuko smirked and pulled her to him as he sat on the edge of the bed.
Katara leaned in and kissed the smirk away. Zuko took no time in answering her kiss, picking right back up where they had paused. His hands were quick to remove the rest of Katara’s clothing. Once he had successfully finished, he grabbed the back of her thighs and switched places with her, gently tossing her back on the bed. He pulled out a small square from his pocket before removing his jeans.
Katara groaned when he hovered back over her, still in his boxers. “Seriously? I’m naked but you still get to be covered?”
Zuko looked down between them. Before huffing and sliding back off the bed to drop his boxers. “Better?” His voice dripped with sarcasm.
Katara bit her lip as she watched his cock twitch slightly. She tilted her head and shrugged. “A bit.”
“Fuck you.” Zuko laughed and slid back over her.
“That’s the plan, right?” Katara joked back, but quickly sobered. He kissed her stomach, collarbone and her neck before lowering himself so that either one of his elbows rest beside her head. The hardened length pressed against her lower stomach. There was a small string of wetness connecting  her skin to the head of him.
“I had planned on it.” Zuko kissed the very corner of her mouth. “But how do you want it?”
Katara’s sexual deprived brain filled with ideas. Some probably on her more kinky side but she opted to sound less like a touch starved pornstar. “Hard.”
Zuko’s golden eyes darkened. He groaned and his head fell onto her shoulder. “Fuck, yeah, Kat.”
Zuko was fast to undo the package and roll the condom on. Maybe she wasn’t the only one who really needed this. Zuko leaned down and kissed her. Tongues fought for dominance as two fingers entered Katara’s slick core. She hissed at the slight stretch but her body quickly adjusted. Katara’s hips raised to gather more friction. The kiss started turning sloppy as Katara moaned and nipped at Zuko’s lip.
Katara’s back arched when Zuko’s palm brushed the bud of nerves. Her chest heaving and Katara sucking in breath. Her center clutched around Zuko’s fingers as he inserted a third one. Zuko kissed down her neck and to her collarbone where he placed small bruises.
“Zuko. Please.” Katara grabbed the wrist that was between her legs.
Zuko nodded and pulled his fingers out to quickly replace it with his dick. Katara cried out at the new depth and stretch. Zuko quickly covered her mouth with his. He knew he didn’t have to worry about the sound with the house to themselves. But capturing her sounds sent shocks down his body. He wasted no time in rocking his hips hard into Katara’s.
“Ah!” Katara’s hip pushed off the bed again and her arms came and wrapped over his shoulders. Her fingernails digging into his shoulder blades.
“Kat…” Zuko growled as he sped up, thrusting just as deep. He felt her begin to slip up the bed and reach around to hold onto her hips, changing the angle. Katara’s head threw back in a silent moan. Her thighs trembled against his side.
Katara felt ave after high wave run over her body. Muscles clenched and unclenched. Katara never knew her body could feel so blissed out. All because, Zuko. Zuko seemed to know exactly where to push into her body. No slam. Because it was rough and hot. And there was sweat between them. Katara was fucked.
Zuko’s paced began to slow and she could feel the tension in his body. Her core fluttered around the large length inside her. He pulled on her hips again keeping her flush to him and his hips jerked as if they could go farther into her. He pulled back one final time before slamming home and staying there. Katara clenching and tightening as Zuko’s dick twitched in her.
Both heaved out breath. Zuko finally pulling from her and laying next to her. There was no cuddling but she did feel his hand search for hers. Katara slowly caught her breath, her body still feeling twitchy from the constant high. She turned her head to look at Zuko.
There was a stark difference between his pink eye and the dark red sheets. But the scar wasn’t ugly. No. It just kind of fit him. Like if she had met Zuko before the scar. She probably would have demanded he wear pink eyeshadow or something. It would have been strange to see him without it.
Zuko turned to look at Katara. Golden eyes searching midnight blue. “Happy Birthday.”
Katara couldn’t help the laugh that left her. “Thanks.”

Departure – T
Continued from Oceans, started at Snowed In.
The next day brought sun and snow-melt. Katara found the mansion's owner in the kitchen making a pot of tea. It was such a domestic act to see him in that she stopped in the doorway to watch him slowly measure out the tea leaves.
"You're very precise about your tea."
Without looking up from his task, "I had an uncle who loved tea. The only way my brew was good was when I measured everything out. Uncle could toss everything together with his eyes closed and it would still taste like the best tea ever." They waited in silence as the tea brewed. The sound of water drops from icicles could be heard through the foggy windows. It was nice and warm in the kitchen with the roaring hearth fire but it was still cold outside. When the tea was ready he poured her a cup before his own.
"Have you seen any of your family since the curse?" She asked, taking a sip of the warm tea.
"I haven't seen anyone since the curse."
Katara's eyes widened. She figured a few other travelers had to of come by before her. "Well while I'm here, was there anything you wanted to do while another person was here? Any games or something?" She felt bad about leaving possibly tomorrow, but she had to leave.
It was odd, seeing the mask tilt to the side, but seeing no expression from the eyes. "I don't know. It would be nice to cook a meal with someone. I was never big on games, but just having someone in the mansion is nice." He also dreaded letting her leave, but he would never keep someone captive like he was – unless it was for her safety like it was during the snow storm.
"That would be nice. My brother, Sokka, never helped me cook."
The day passed quietly, and too quickly for his liking. In the morning they read in the library. Some days he felt like he had read half of the books but she pushed him to find a new book. In the afternoon, they prepared a 3 course meal together. All the while, it was obvious that the weather was changing. The wall of snow blocking all of the windows was below half. It was in the back of their minds that she would leave tomorrow, though it was unspoken.
After dinner, they were finishing their drinks in the sitting room, just the embers burning in the fireplace now.
"So tomorrow, if I looked at the decanter again, it would be full?" Katara was trying to process how the curse worked.
He chuckled, "Yes. It's a little weird at first. But it means I can have the same great vintage everyday and it'll never go dry.
Her head dipped back against the settee, the whiskey hitting her hard. "What do you think will happen after the curse breaks? Will everything go bad?...What will you do?"
The amber liquid swirled in his glass. "I can't afford to think that far ahead."
The burning log gave a loud crack, making Katara jump. "Will you show me what's under the mask before I leave tomorrow?"
He flexed the hand not holding his glass, the black fabric stretching and rubbing on his uneven skin. "There was a fire. It took a lot away from me. And it left behind it's destruction on my skin." He looked over but she was still gazing at the embers. "Do you really want to see it? It's not pretty."
Katara tilted her head toward him, locking her gaze on the black holes where his eyes were. "I think I want to know everything about you. Right now, the burns are a part of you're comfortable with it, I'd like to see you."
He set the glass down on a side table before pulling at the tips of his gloves, it was now or never. It felt nice to let his skin breathe again as he only took the gloves off at night while she was here. "My hands are a little dry due to the cold, but it looks worse than they feel."
His hands were discolored and rough. He was right, they didn't look good, almost painful, but Katara didn't look away. "Do put lotion on? That might help the healing process." She added softly, "May I touch your hand?" Katara thought about how long it's been since he's had physical contact with anyone and wanted to leave him better than he was when she first came.
"Sometimes. Some days I just try to ignore it." He let his hand touch the fabric edge of his mask. Who knows what he would have done if there wasn't a mask in the mansion for him to use while she was here. The knot at the back of his head came undone easily and then the only thing keeping his mask on was his hand. "I wasn't vain before the fire, I know my features weren't as ugly as they are now. The fire changed a lot." When the mask came off his face, he closed his eyes, not wanting to see what her expression was.
Katara was confused, how did he survive? She was standing and walking toward him before she even realized what she was doing. With his eyes still closed, she lightly touched the side of his face. "I wish I could heal you," she whispered. His golden eyes pierced into her soul. "You are very brave, thank you for showing me. If it makes you more comfortable to cover yourself while I'm here you can, but it doesn't bother me." She backed away until her legs hit the settee.
He wondered where this woman had been all his life. She was kind and funny and didn't shy away from him like he figured anyone would do. Girls tended to leave him alone even before the curse. So he kept the mask off but put his gloves back on in the off chance that their hands bump.
"Thank you...for being yourself around me. It means a lot."
She gave him a soft smile, "Is it weird that I'm glad I was caught in this snow storm? I'm happy that I was able to meet you...and I'm a little sad that I have to leave tomorrow. I need to find my mom. I wish you could come with me."
"So do I," came his quiet reply. "We should go to bed. The morning before the thunderstorm will either be clear and sunny or already rainy. You'll need to leave early in the morning."
Now that his mask was gone, Katara could see all of his expressions. Maybe he wasn't good at hiding it, but she could see how sad he was that she was leaving. They climbed the staircase together but branched off when they got to the top.
"Good night, see you in the morning," her voice carried down the hallway to him. He couldn't remember the last time someone wished him goodnight.
They were both restless, sleep eluding them.
Breakfast was quiet but the tea was warming. He didn't say anything as he handed her a food pack to take. They didn't really know each other, so why was this so difficult? Katara was all bundled up and ready to leave as he walked her to the front hall.
When he opened the door, they could see that a dense fog was rolling through the property but not a flake of snow to be seen.
"Thank you for your hospitality. Once I find my mom, I'll try to find you again."
He shook his head, "No, coming back just gives my sister another shot at hurting you. But thank you. Who knows when the next traveler will get stuck in my house?"
Katara stepped onto the porch, officially outside of the mansion. "I never asked your name, and I never gave mine. My name is Katara. What's yours?"
"Zuko. Zuko Shinoroi. It was nice to have met you Katara."
She waved and then walked toward the trees, hoping she would find the path soon. Zuko shut the door only when he couldn't see her. He would miss Katara, that much which he was sure.
TBC tomorrow

Broke: Toph as a cop
Woke: Toph would not have become a cop. That’s the last thing she’d do!
Bespoke: The entire gaang would make TERRIBLE cops. Not “bad cops” like racist and/or corrupt. They would never! (And we’re gonna pretend ATLA got to avoid racism and corruption in the police force because this is a fictional world and we can dream big) They’d just be... really bad at their jobs.
Or, my newest headcanon: How the Gaang got Fired from the Police Force During Their First Week
(this is supposed to be a funny take on the Gaang’s personal versions of justice and various quirks and how that does not fit into a police force very well. If this sounds like something that will upset you, please keep scrolling.
Aang is the only one who doesn’t get fired in his first week. He can actually follow the law objectively, protect the people following it, and apprehend the people breaking it with minimal harm. But he only makes it a month because half the calls he gets are for nonviolent offenses and let’s face it, Aang loves a good practical joke. So when he gets calls for graffitied houses and various neighborhood vandalisms he’s like “Haha! Good one! Love the color scheme on this one!” and the people are like “THEY VANDALIZED OUR HOUSE AREN’T YOU GOING TO TRY TO FIND THEM?!” and Aang is just like “Ohhhhh you want to prank them back. Good idea! But you know what’s even better, paying it forward!”
Katara would give every criminal the benefit of the doubt (except domestic abusers, she’d murder them on the spot) and when asked why she didn’t arrest anybody despite being sent on like 30 calls, she’s just like “They said they were having a hard time and they just looked so sad so I made them some soup and sent them on their way.” and the chief is just like “Katara one of those guys is literally a serial killer.” She’s just so full of sympathy and empathy, which law enforcement desperately needs, but I feel like she has so much it would start to get in the way of her... doing the job she was hired to do (apprehending criminals so the justice system can sort out what they did, didn’t do, and how motives factor in). Plus, murdering domestic abusers sounds so nice, but they have constitutional rights too, so assuming no racism/corruption (this is a fictional world, let’s dream big), she’d probably get fired for that. The social workers would immediately scoop her up the second she left the precinct though.
Sokka. Oh Sokka. He would always show up with the wrong gear. He’d bring the big artillery to a burglary. He’d bring a nightstick to bust a black market firearms operation. My dude is a tactical genius, but we all know what Aunt Wu said about his life. He is a genius, but lacks common sense. He always has a plan and it usually checks out. He always escapes with his life because he’s just good like that, but if you intervene in a burglary armed to the teeth, you’re wasting resources. And if you show up to an AR15 fight with a nightstick, you’re probably not stopping any crimes or making any arrests. And he’s most certainly not getting a strictly investigative job. We’ve all seen detective Sokka. He touches all the evidence and that’s about all he does with it.
Toph gets fired two days in because she’s an anarchist. Laws? Never heard of her. Toph does what she wants, when she wants, how she wants. They send her to investigate and arrest some scammers and they find her masterminding the schemes by the end of the day. Every time they send her to investigate potential crime, she ends up either participating in said crime or trapping the perpetrators in rocks instead of in jail. It’s just way too unpredictable. Either way, she’s gonna do something technically illegal. Whose bright idea was it to hire her anyway?!
Zuko would also completely disregard laws in favor of his own sense of morality. Break in? Yeah, he saw the breaking, entering, and subsequent murder, but hey, the guy had it coming. He was just such a jerk and exploited his employees. So of course he’s not going to snitch. But hey? Why is this guy in jail? He said he didn’t commit any crimes and witnesses corroborate. Ah, he kicked a turtleduck so it’s jail for 1000 years.
Suki is level headed enough to do a good job, but she’s also just... way too dangerous. I’m 99% sure she could kick your entire head off. After a few times coming just too close to actually doing permanent damage to someone she was trying to apprehend, her and the chief came to a mutual decision that she should resign. But again, don’t worry, the ATLA equivalent of the CIA is waiting outside the building to recruit her. She’s way too badass to retire just because the world is no longer at war. She HAS to have an ethical way to punch people!
