Anyway Solomon Wreath has like, objectively one of the funnier names in this series.

He’s named after King Solomon, a Hebrew judge in the Old Testament, who famously decrees that a dispute between two women over the parentage of a baby can only be resolved by cutting the child in half, and giving each woman an equal share.

A full three books after he’s first introduced, it’s then revealed that Wreath believes the only way to end all suffering in the world is to cut the population in half.

His name and character arc are like, a tongue-in-cheek, exaggerated misinterpretation of the moral in the original story - which was obviously not meant to be “the only way to solve your problems is by cutting them in half.”

And when Wreath is killed, his death is Darquesse cutting him into halves.

Decided to make some last minute alterations and clarifications to my Across A Dark Plain designs before I get so far into animating it that I can’t change anything anymore. I also just wanted new drawings of the designs because the old ones were really starting to fall behind. Long post ahead.

Erskine has the following design notes: Erskine Ravel, hexagon based design=deception. Less visibly muscular than his friends, relies more on talking and charming his way out of trouble. These designs mostly stayed the same, with minor changes, like changing Ghastly’s color palette slightly and removing clutter from Skulduggery’s design.

These designs stayed pretty similar too, except for some color balance changes and de-cluttering Saracen’s design. Saracen and Dexter are both described as being very popular with, well, everyone, so I tried to make them both very non-threatening and friendly looking, since I’ve heard that people find non-threatening men attractive. Hopeless remains the coolest person in town, their design was my favorite out of the original ones.

After using his gist he gains eyebags and doesn’t tie up his hair to show that he is still feeling the after effects of the gist. Described as muscular, has a competitive swimmer’s bodytype. Always a bit tense, doubly so after using his gist. His vest has a low neckline and his shirt is fastened with hook & eye latches for easier unfastening necessary to use the gist. The gist has the following design notes: Anton Shudder’s gist. Similar design to Anton, except with more sharp angles. Moves fast and erratic, like a kite in a windstorm. “A twisting stream of light and dark” connects it to Anton. /. End ID]

Anton, and by extension the gist got a few design changes. I gave him a closed but very low vest instead of the open one because that one coupled with his height, long hair strands by his face and hat made him look a bit too much like Goofy. I also added some details that will show up later on in the animation, like how his ponytail falls apart during the zombie fight and he doesn't tie it back up and how he gets eyebags.

Serpine has the following design notes: Nefarian Serpine, triangle based design=danger. Disheveled from being on the run. He's scary now but even scarier when not tired and in his depth. Glove in right hand because of red right hand's death rays. Solomon has the following design notes: Solomon Wreath, rounded triangle based design= smooth, always has his own thing going on. Outfit is more of a modern plague doctor outfit. Outfit has lots of flare. Magic is bound to cane. Super smug and arrogant, has the upper hand and knows it. /. End ID]

These design stayed mostly the same as well to be honest. Not much to say about them to be honest, I added Solomon's cane and my backstory ideas for Noche. To me he reads like a fresh adult who used to be a child prodigy but didn't end up being the death bringer so he was cast aside because people thought he was annoying or something. I like to think the run in with the Dead Men was his wake-up call to find a new place to be where people appreciate him for who he is.

China sitting by her fireplace and listening to calming music, sorting through all the Xmas cards from her admirers.

Solomon Wreath getting a necromancer themed ugly sweater from Val.

The midnight hotel having Xmas lights inside and a warm atmosphere, open to anyone who wants to get away from the Cold.

Scapegrace, Thrasher and Clarabelle giving eachother gifts.

Tanith getting a decorated sword sheeth from Frightening Jones.

The deadmen all at the hotel having an eggnog chugging competition.

Ghastly going through Dublin City, volunteering at homeless shelters and giving children clothes and toys.

okay in all seriousness what the fuck is going on with them. when Wreath is introduced, Skulduggery punches him in the face and calls it history and neither of them ever really elaborate on that.

I think they were close before the war, and probably right up until Skulduggery was killed. I also wonder if Skulduggery blames Wreath for Serpine killing his family, since the necromancers are the ones who gave him his power of agonizing death. lots of angst potential.
