How do you think Yuu’s otherworldly education compares in common subjects between Twisted Wonderland and Yuu’s world? Would a Yuu being 16 influence if the prefect is ahead in any classes? I’m sure this would be dependent on the standard age for levels in a school system and what kind of school system we are looking at.
I’m going to use math as an example for my rambling. Math isn’t a skill that requires any magical knowledge as a background, so Yuu could theoretically be ahead in that subject. (I have no clue what math skills are required by grade in a Japanese school which NRC is partially based on.)
Using my high school as an example. Our math courses followed the track: Algebra 1, Trigonometry, Algebra 2, Pre Calculus, and then AP Calculus or AP Statistics depending on the year. A freshman could easily make it into a higher math like Calculus before graduating if that person started farther along in the track.
So a Yuu (from the 4 year system of schools) could have been approaching a higher level of a subject at 16. And if Yuu’s math skills were better than the level of a first year, I’m not sure a placement test would have been offered to Yuu since that would require effort from Crowley Grim’s level would have to be accommodated on top of fitting Yuu’s schedule with normal first year classes. Which would be such a disservice to Yuu, even if the class being easy gives more time for the subjects that need to be learned from the ground up.
I have thought way too hard about this. I am sorry for the rabbit hole and the asks being so close together.
- 🦐
No need to apologize for sending asks shrimpy friend, you always have the nicest theories. You can spam me if you please.
We know from a few tidbits here and there that grade skipping is allowed, but it depends on where you are in Twisted Wonderland. Given that the original intent for Idia was to have him be a child prodigy who had speed ran his way into NRC, I would assume grade skipping is allowed by the school board, but well. You have already hit on the tiiiiny wittle issue with Yuu.
Grim and Yuu's grades are averaged, if I understand what Crowely says at the start of the game and Crewel's vignette correctly. The idea was that since Yuu would automatically fail any magic based classes, Grim would pick up the slack there and Yuu would be able to help him learn practical life skills. Yuu being smart probably would help them, but their other half would still need to be brought up to speed about things like basic math before Crowley would consent to let them jump ahead a year.
You are correct that this would be a disservice to Yuu. Deuce's dorm uniform vignette has him struggling to solve simultaneous equations. Ace and Cater both list this as a basic math skill they learned in middle school, meaning they are excepted to know this, so a Yuu who was in something like Calc or AP Stats would be in a very advantageous position... but they still would need to teach basic math to Grim and keep on him so he did his homework for his other classes.
So the TL;DR:
No Yuu being more advanced than the other freshmen probably wouldn't help them graduate faster. It might help them educate Grim faster, but this assumes he wants to work which he does not.
Yes this is almost entirely down to Crowley not wanting to put in effort and his decision to count Yuu and Grim as one student.
If we are being honest it probably is more convenient for Crowley to have Yuu be a first year given the work he wants them to do for him. He gets to keep them around longer that way lol.

hey, can u write Armin x afab!reader, Armin being a teasy!dom af
Tumblr media
hi! i'm sorry this so long to complete, i have been incredibly swamped with life, so writing has not come easy to me. this is also my first time writing smut, so pls keep that in mind lol. a long time coming, so please enjoy!
study
college au, established relationship, teasy!soft dom armin x lowkey bratty reader
content: teasing, afab!reader, pet names (baby, sweetheart, love, pretty, good girl, pretty girl), edging, slight overstim, oral (f receiving), fingering
A sunny spring afternoon with your boyfriend should have been spent on a cute date, reading in the park or getting lunch together. You could be doing this, of course, if it wasn’t for the 89.5% in your history class and the final you had next week to make it up. Instead, you were stuck inside up your elbows in homework.
Not that you minded spending time with Armin this way, quite the opposite actually as he was a wonderful study partner and always willing to help you freshen up on topics discussed in lectures that you couldn’t make it to (or that you didn’t remember). As you finished the first of many assignments, you threw your head back with a groan. “I should just drop out. Learn to knit sweaters on Etsy or something,” you pouted.
“That bad huh?” Armin laughed, turning from his own laptop to face you. The lofi background on the tv played relaxing beats as you questioned the entirety of your academic career.
“I think my brain is melting. And I’ve only done one. One! And no one’s even kissed me or told me how great I’m doing, how ever will I go on?” You dramatically laid your hand on your forehead, batting your eyelashes at your boyfriend. He laughed, placing a soft kiss on your right cheek. Then your left, then your lips. You smiled, grateful for the momentary bliss from the headache of studying. Armin’s face then lit up the way it does when he’s solved a long equation.
“Maybe now I can carry on… Only with the motivation of my sweet sweet boy,” you dramatically flopped backward, half draped in his lap. It truly wasn’t that difficult, but the familiar end-of-semester burnout had your brain feeling like overcooked ramen noodles.
Armin chuckled at your theatrics, ever patient and sweet. “Alright, how about for every question you answer on the next study guide, I’ll give you a kiss?” he suggested.
You turned your head upward to face your boyfriend, spider-man style. “Every question on this 50 question study guide gets me a kiss?” you confirmed.
“Well… Maybe we can work out a system since it’s so long,” your eyes lit up, “but only if you’re a good girl for me and get the whole thing done, okay?” a slight rosy tint dusting his cheeks. He knew you loved when he talked like that, and he quickly learned that praise was a good motivator, to say the least. He loved it especially when it pulled such cute reactions from you, but you couldn’t help but get a little shy when he told you what to do.
“Okay got it, focus, study, kisses,” you nodded. You settled with your back against his chest, pulling your laptop closer. You got comfy, opening the dreaded history study guide and all the necessary materials to complete it.
As promised, once the first short answer question was complete Armin planted a kiss on your forehead, and a bonus one on your shoulder. Your little exchange continued as you completed more questions, finally halfway done with it. “See? You’re doing so well baby, already halfway done,” he ran his hands up and down your arms soothingly, tilting your chin to the side to allow him access to kiss your neck. “I’m proud of you,” he softly spoke against your skin, kissing you gently. You sighed, easily relaxing to his touch. For a brief moment, you wondered if you heard another tone in his voice, but maybe it was just the haze in your mind from Armin’s praise.
Your focus returned to your work, scrolling through notes to find answers, being rewarded with a little peck on your neck, your lips, your forehead. A particularly long question had Armin’s hands beginning to wander as you ran through your materials, fingers feather-light as he slipped them under the hem of your hoodie. You gasped instinctively, your focus broken briefly. “Ah, focus sweetheart,” he chided, stopping his movements. You huffed, reluctantly typing answers into the doc. Armin had a tendency to tease, knowing he could draw this out as long as he wanted.
You blinked, clearing your head from the gutter before continuing to type, determined to finish the last ten questions. You groaned internally upon seeing the next one was rather long as well, opening a new tab to begin researching. Armin’s hands returned to rest just under the hem of your hoodie. One hand gently slid its way up your torso, fingertips featherlight as he traced them along the swell of your breast. You shifted in your spot on his lap, doing your best to ignore the growing bulge that pressed into your backside.
Armin traced the curve of your breasts, taking his time to draw your body to memory. His cool fingers grazed your nipples, the touch so sensitive it sent a chill through you. Your body warmed as he continued his teasing movements, caressing your breasts, rubbing circles around your nipples, taking his time unraveling you as he watched your focus crumble.
Armin’s hand continued gently pinching and rubbing your nipples as his other began to slowly drift down, thumb dipping under the hem of your shorts. As it was clearly becoming impossible for you to finish this assignment, you attempted to get away with putting your laptop to the side, but Armin took it from your hands and placed it next to you, still within your reach for use. “Don’t make me repeat myself sweetheart, you only get rewarded if you keep working,” his voice slid deeper - gently commanding. You knew you were likely testing his patience a bit, but it was just so hard to focus and, really, he was being to you by not letting you take a break. And yet.
“Okay, okay, I’ll finish it this time,” you sighed, pouting in an attempt to make him give in.
“Good girl,” he smiled, satisfied. When you refocused, Armin kept his word, bringing one hand to your nipples once again as the other found its way into your shorts. The lightest of touches on the outside of your panties sent a shudder from you, your hips instinctively twitching. Armin’s fingers pressed gently, rubbing your slit up and down at an agonizingly slow pace, not bothering to move your panties yet.
Your diligence was rewarded with what Armin knew you craved, his fingers pressing into you harder, a hidden strength that drove you crazy when you saw it. He rubbed circles on your clit through your panties, wetness campening the soft cotton. Your concentration phased in and out, shifting from the dull feeling of pleasure warming your abdomen to (finally, finally) the second to last question. Your sighs must have become pitiful as you heard the honey-dripped sound of your boyfriend’s laugh. “You wanna tell me something sweetheart?” His tone drenched in condescending care.
“No, I want you to touch me,” your cheeks burned. He had to pull the words out of you.
“I am touching you, pretty girl,” his smile was so warm and blue eyes so soft, you’d think he was really asking to help. He leaned down, speaking softly into your ear, “I’m not gonna let you finish until that homework is done, so I suggest you quiet down,” he nipped at your neck, “and get to work.” His words sent a shiver down your spine and you nodded, mustering what mental strength you had to explain the political structures of… somewhere.
Armin’s fingers slipped into your panties, dipping into you and spreading you open. He rubbed your clit with practiced precision, knowing just how to ease you into being edged. Allowing you to feel so good, so blissful, so easy to convince you that you’ll get to finish – before taking it away completely. His middle finger flicked your clit, pinching lightly. The buzz in your head was driving you mad, the arousal burning through you. With a half-assed last answer, you snapped your laptop shut, physically restraining yourself from throwing it on the floor. Armin’s ministrations slowed to a lazy pace, a smug smile sat on his lips. “You done?” he asked, patient as ever.
“Mhm, all done and complete and turned in and all that,” you stumbled slightly, turning around to straddle his lap. Armin’s dominant demeanor faltered ever so subtly and you smirked - he was almost always all talk until you were sitting pretty on his lap, your warm center on the bulge you could so clearly see through his sweatpants.
Armin was easy to turn the tables on, so naturally it took you by surprise when his eyes glinted with something that excited you, using his lean muscles to flip your positions, pinning you beneath him. “Baby…” Oh there it was, that chastising tone that meant you were in for it. “Did I say you could get on top?” He lazily caressed the plush of the inside of your thighs, avoiding where you so desperately needed him to touch you.
“No…” You bit your lip.
“And I always thought you were so good at following the rules baby, aren’t you my good girl?” Armin teased, slipping your shorts and panties down your legs. He trailed pecks up the inside of your thigh, parting your legs as he went. You gasped at the contact, nodding your head and biting your lip in anticipation. Your hands traveled to grip your boyfriend’s soft hair and guide him into you, only for him to stop you by grabbing your wrists. He brought them to rest above your head, lips traveling back up to mouth at your neck. “Then you better listen this time, and keep those hands right there ‘till I tell you,” he grasped your jaw, tilting your face toward him gently, “got it love?”
“Uh huh,” you breathed, stunned and absolutely aroused at his sense of command. Armin’s shift in demeanor made his blue eyes darken, his muscles flex and a hunger from within him that made him want to simply devour you.
“There’s my good girl,” his warm smile returned, and you’d almost believe he was going to give you everything you wanted. Armin returned to his place between your legs, burying his face in the wet warmth between your thighs. He used his soft, flat tongue to lick a stripe up through your center. You groaned as he used the tip of his tongue to flick your clit, arching your back and pushing yourself closer to him. You felt him smile against you, “Yeah? That feel good baby?”
“Oh god, yes,” you whined. He rewarded you by spreading you apart with his fingers, settling his tongue against your clit and making you sigh once again. His soft touches and sweet sinful tongue gathered a rhythm that made your head spin, figure eights on your clit spreading the wetness that just couldn’t stop as his fingers worked nimbly to unravel you from the inside. The lofi background on the TV muffled as the room filled with the sinful wet sounds coming from you, your heavy breathing and needy gasps.
“Ahh, baby I’m so close... Oh, fuck,” you gasped, hips grinding against his face as his fingers stroked just the right place inside you. The familiar sparks traveled through your body, the feeling building to its peak once more, so very close to tipping over until – it stopped. Armin’s fingers left you feeling empty, his mouth leaving your poor, swollen pink clit unsatisfied and sensitive. “A-armin! Please, please, c’mon I was so close,” you nearly cried, sitting up to look at him. Your prayers, however, were answered as he sat back to pull down his sweatpants and boxers and align his hips to yours.
“You’ve been so - “ you felt just the tip push past your lips, absolutely drenched in your own juices, “so good for me baby.” You felt him slowly, so slowly, finally slide his cock into you, feeling every long-awaited inch fill you. You nearly creamed on the spot, before even feeling the torturous way he began to thrust his hips. In, out, the most desperate whimpers left your lips as he praised you. “You’re so good, my pretty girl, so good at letting me edge you as much as I want,” the prettiest words purred from his lips and only aroused you more as your orgasm threatened to rip you in two. His voice, his cock, the delicious rhythm that he rubbed your clit at, everything was so good and so much that sparks shot through you, setting your entire body ablaze.
“Fuck - I’m gonna - “ you could hardly gasp out the words in between breathless moans as it hit you, waves of fire rolling through you. Armin thrusted into you, hitting your sweet spot at a delicious pace as he fucked you through your orgasm, his pants and groans getting higher as his ow orgasm built.
“ ‘m close baby, you feel so good, you came so well for me pretty girl,” his hands gripped your hips. The slam of his cock into you as he fucked you stupid sent shocks of pleasure and dull pain through you. Your whole body was shaking, your hips sore as Armin’s thrusts became sloppier and his groans became needier.
“Cum baby, want you to cum in me, oh fuck, please,” you begged, your words barely uttered through your moans as your second orgasm sent white hot pleasure coursing through your limbs.
“Fuck, yeah I’ll cum in you baby, I - “ Armin’s thrusts became uneven, hitting you one, two, three times making you see stars, the cum dripping from your second orgasm slick and messy around his cock. Your sweet words and downright sinful noises sent your sweet boyfriend over the edge, his hips stuttering as you felt his cock pulsing deep inside you. A mix of curses and praises flew between the two of you as you came down, bodies satiated and sweaty as you calmed your breathing.
-
You lay together, clothes long discarded and only underwear and a t-shirt (Armin’s t-shirt) on. Your head rested on his chest as Armin caressed your hair, kissing your forehead softly. You sighed, breathing in his scent deeply and settling into him to drift off into a nap.
Hope that study guide comes in handy.

i see math major 👀 i have to take brief calculus in the fall after not taking a single math class in 5 years… any tips to not overwhelm myself??
hi! okay sorry for the late response, I was gearing up to respond throughout the week and drafting good advice. disclaimer: I wrote A LOT. I promise it's not very scary and if it feels overwhelming, please digest it in bits. I just yap a lot and I wanted to cover all my bases.
Five years is a long time without math and enough time to forget lots of things! It's good that you're getting a good head start so there's no need for you to worry.
I'd start by practicing basic algebra: systems of equations, algebraic expressions (solving for x and stuff), linear/quadratic/exponential equations, etc. I will say, even if you once knew how to do this and used to be very good at it, there is a chance that you forgot a lot and lost your touch. Do not be deterred by that. It is OKAY. I've taken many levels of calculus, didn't take any math for a year, and then completely forgot how to factor an equation. It just happens- math is something you have to work your way back into by making a habit of it.
Then you should review trigonometry, more advanced algebra topics, etc: this is algebra II/pre-calculus. In my opinion, it's just a more extended version of basic algebra. You can review matrices too (part of alg II), but it's not very relevant to calculus unless you're taking differential equations (calc 4). But definitely, DEFINITELY, review trigonometry (sin/cos/tan, triangles, rules for their equations, the UNIT CIRCLE).
I'd say that's a good summary of things to catch up on. Once again, it is okay if you mess up some ridiculously "easy" review problems. It's seriously so, so normal, and it doesn't mean that you're set back too far or have an arduous journey ahead of you. The more you get used to doing math, the more you'll get better at it!
Here's a quick overview of topics taught in calculus I: limits, derivatives, applications of derivatives, integrals, applications of integrals.
If you have time, you could totally look into the topics that'll be taught during your semester too. You're already getting a head start by looking into reviewing things, but this would push you even forward.
Here are links to some free resources for you to use for ANY topic you choose to review (you might know some of them):
Khan Academy: has lots of videos and tutorials. Breaks topics down really well. Has review problems with answers and breakdowns of solutions. The review problems are generally basic compared to in-class test questions, but it's good for building a foundation
Organic Chemistry Tutor: This guy is the goat. His youtube videos are really thorough and he's good at explaining things and he'll walk you through different problems.
symbolab: this is an online calculator that can solve lots of different types of equations, including calculus equations! You can input the most tough, weirdest looking equations with ten variables, and as long a it's solvable it'll give you an answer
desmos: online graphing calculator! It's amazing for visualizing equations and functions.
If you have access to whatever textbook your teacher might use in the fall too, that's also great! Also, feel free to reach out to ME for any math help. I am the biggest math nerd ever so I would probably get excited to help you AHAH. I've done one of my mutuals physics homework before so I promise you wouldn't be overstepping if you asked me for anything else. Good luck on your studies!

I just woke myself up from laughing???????
I was in the living room trying to do my homework for switching my Canadian driver's license to a Mexican one. There were 2 friends that I can't recognize sitting around the table with me and I had this driver's book in front of me like, MASSIVE sized. You could literally tell the homework was extensive because I had to go through 5 pages of maths and problem solving; but I couldn't understand any of the equations because they mixed yards with kilometers and all the measurement systems were pretty much all merged up within the problems that I needed to solve. So I genuinely couldn't finish my homework at all because how do you divide yards and meters?!?!
Also, fsr, we had vanilla cake and vanilla flavored milkshakes too? (Not complaining, just amused)
And so this one friend sitting to my left leans in to offer me some help; but I can't remember what she said to me? I know that she was either roasting the kilometers/yards in my homework or she was roasting me but she said something SO FUNNY that I laughed so hard and accidentally woke myself up
Genuinely, I wish I could remember what she said

I do not find solving math problems particularly enjoyable and never have. I have never really experienced that joy and sense of pleasure from contemplating a nice/clever/beautiful equation or the satisfaction of solving a an interesting math problem. I envy those of you who get to have those experiences! Sometime in middle school I lost whatever connection to math I had and I nearly flunked algebra in 8th grade which kinda did a number on my relationship with math. Luckily, I did not have my heart set on a career in a math-focused subject and went off to study art instead! But I've been trying to stop saying I Hate Math, so here's some experiences with math that were positive for me a Non-Math Person:
10th Grade Math Class (Geometry? I think?) where the teacher always set aside time at the end of class for us to start on our homework. We were encouraged not only to ask him questions, but to talk to each other. This was great. Teamed up with a couple of other weird kids in class and took turns asking each other about stuff we got stuck on and trying to explain the ones we felt like we got right. I got solid Bs that year! Explaining things and working with peers gave me back a lot of math confidence and I started to connect to math again! (This was utterly torpedoed next year, lolsob!)
Physics. Ironically, despite being Bad At Math, I really liked Physics class. It was very very basic physics, but I think having concrete ideas that made sense helped a lot. Math felt like it had substance and weight that I could hold onto with my mind and that was very exciting!
Honestly, there's a lot of math concepts I find fascinating. I used to to zone out in math class staring at posters about the fibonacci sequence or fractals or get distracted pondering prime numbers. So I've read a fair number of "math concepts for people that don't like math" books that talked about trying to conceptualize infinities or the 4th dimension, or different counting base systems, or weird topology hijinks. It was interesting to see how those ideas were expressed in mathematical notation even if I couldn't do enough math to do anything with these things. I stayed up way too late one night when I was in art school happily trying to visualize some of things I was reading about. I'm suffering from burnout right now and reading is hard much less reading things that challenge my brain like that, but I do look forward to shoving my brain at concepts again someday and rotating them in my head like the weirdest blorbo.
I'm a digital artist. I haven't had to do algebra in awhile. But math underlies the tools I use and can inspire interesting work so I I am trying to find reasons to appreciate it. Geometry and other mathematical ideas can be used to codify ideas of balance and shape and form in a composition. Math can be used to describe the rules of perspective. Math is a language that can be translated into the language of color and motion that I speak, so that like a translated poem, I can understand the ideas, even if they're not quite the same in translation.
I didn't wanna derail the other post but I still wanna spread some love for my favourite subject...
Reblog if you've ever felt genuine joy or excitement from doing and/or thinking about math

Neeeerd time!!✨️ (wow it's my 10th months of grad study)
My mood is very good now since today's exam grade is better than I expected alhamdulillah.🤍 so i want to talk about... related to this course: Applied Math I. And other courses actually. I reaaally love that the grad courses connect each other very well!
Actually, this starts from an uneasy feeling I felt in my undergrad. There was a lot of things taught in my undergrad, but I don't understand most of them. And I am very serious. I felt my undergrad is very weird, at least for me. It was so difficult to understand things. I think I did my exams very bad. But the worse thing (to me), is, we did not get any feedback unless the semester is finished.
I hated it because I did not know whether my understanding is correct or not. I didn't know which part is true and which part is not. Whether I did good or bad in midterm, quiz, finals, or homework. I didn't really read the books. I only read Calculus, some Atomic Physics, Feynman for optics & electromagnetics, and books + papers for thesis. Oh, also some parts of book for Sensors, Actuators, Electrical Circuit. The rest.. I just read the prof's ppt/modules. Hahaha ok I admit that I wasn't that "good" in studying.
So I was so lost in Chemistry, Thermodynamics, Heat & Mass Transports, Process Techniques, & Fluid Mechanics. I also felt lost in Linear Algebra, Calculus, Differential Equation, Electronics, Signal Processing, Acoustics, System Dynamics, Controls... (really, I am actually bad... i don't understand how did they grade, why do i still get good grades when I actually don't understand things..)
I might be able to solve the problems from Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and System Dynamic class back then.
But I didn't understand things. I just followed the pattern, nothing sticked, nothing feels connected.
That's why I was so struggled in the last years of my undergrad: when I faced Instrumentation System Design and Undergrad Thesis--which was about acoustics, mechanics, PDEs.
Many concepts were fixed and got better during the thesis, but I still felt something is missing.
When I first came here (my grad campus), we were tested on 3 subjects, undergrad level: (1) math, (2) physics, (3) chemistry.
Basically that. I passed physics & (surprisingly) chemistry, but failed math, so I should take undergrad level math in my first semester. But I am so happy!
Maybe it's also because I already finished undergrad (so I have some basics, even though it's not strong), maybe the prof is just very good at teaching (the attitude is very great. She is always punctual, effective, and willing to answer every questions. Very helpful). Maybe the ppt, the reference book, the homeworks & quiz are good. Maybe the syllabus, and the curriculum--because at the same time I need to practice a lot of calculus at Fluid Mechanics class. Maybe also the language? I am not so good in English, but now if I think about it... i feel that Indonesian math terms are not intuitive. :") Afterall, maybe it's the combination of that. I love it alhamdulillah. :')
Sooo. In my grad study, I've been taking:
- undergrad math: derivatives, integrals, ODE, series & sequence
- fluid mech: (1) a bit of surface tension, dimensionless analysis, Reynold Transport Theorem, Navier Stokes, vorticity, ideal flow, gravity waves, laminar flow; (2) boundary layer, instability, turbulence, compressible flow (shockwaves); (math) kronecker delta, levi-civita, a looot of PDE & calculus because Navier-Stokes, diff coordinates (cartesian, polar), slight complex for waves & instability discussion
- thermo: 1st, 2nd, 3rd law of thermo; (math) basically PDE *note: i'm still very bad at this*
- solid mech: statics, kinematics, constitutive equations (relating statics & kinematics--basically how to solve/model the solid mechanics phenomenon? --> including elasticity, optimization problem), crack propagation; (math) tensor calculus (dyadic notation, matrices, linear algebra), ODEs, Gauss theorem, diff coordinates (cartesian, cylindrical, polar)
- Applied Math II: complex analysis (complex algebra, derivative, integration, Laurent series) & linear algebra (vectors, dimensions, rank, linear dependency, eigenvalues, eigenvectors. Basically how to solve linear "discrete" system)
- Applied Math I: ODE, PDE. Including Green's Function (transfer function) & Sturm Liouville's problem (eigenvalues, eigenfunctions, linear dependency. How to solve linear "continuous" system)
*phew* that's a lot for one year.
But as you can see... every physics class has some math (generally: calculus, ODE, PDE, linear algebra). It helps me to understand math and math helps me to understand that!
If i remember again, my undergrad has a lot of math also (mainly solving ODE, PDE)..
So that now I'm taking Applied Math I, especially during the Green's function discussion, it blooows my mind!
I rmb very clearly that in undergrad we discussed transfer function *a lot*. It is output per input. But how do we find it?
I didn't understand the math.
In Controls, Acoustics, Instrumentation System Design classes, even for my undergrad thesis, we discussed about harmonic oscillator system.
But i didn't really understand what solution is. Why do we solve that way. Why the transfer function and the solution is written that way.
Now I want to share the main insight from current course. In short (I hope), when we have ODE:
Ly(x) = f(x); L is linear differential operator (e.g. D² + pD + q),
f is the input and y is the output
We can solve this, get a solution of
y(x) = int[ G(x,t)*f(t) ]dt
Such that G, the Green's function is equivalent to output over input; the transfer function. And we practice--G only depends on L and Boundary Conditions!
Moreover,
Ly(x) = f(x) is actually equivalent to
LG(x,t) = delta(x-t); delta(x-t) is impulse at x=t, means we'll get transfer function if we give impulse as the input! (I knew this "physically" but math understanding is ✨️amazing✨️)
And thenn I also just notice (or maybe remember, but now understand by heart, I hope) that impulse is a derivative of step, which is a derivative of smooth piecewise function.
And smooth piecewise function can actually be written as a series. Fourier series.
And Fourier series can also be seen as a linear combination of 3 orthogonal bases: 1, sin(n*pi*x/L), cos(n*pi*x/L). Note that we can imagine 3 orthogonal bases as x,y,z in Cartesian coordinates..
Honestly the concept of relating vectors (matrix, "discrete") with functions ("continuous") amazes me in the beginning of this course. 🥺🥺✨️

GENERIC AI PROMPT TO TEACH STUDENTS
Tumblr media
My friend J. Pina is a math teacher at Pitagoras High School in Mexico City.
In a recent conversation, he asked how he could use AI Generative to help his students outside of class with homework, as many of them had difficulties and few resources.
During his classes, he was sure that he taught in a didactic way and practiced a lot of Algebra exercises. The problem was that it was difficult for students to do homework.
I suggested a generic prompt that could be used for many solutions. Always with his supervision to improve the learning of his students.
System prompt.
input format [ title], [ objective], [characteristics],
output [solution].
[Write one paragraph of this solution].
Input description:
Title: Solving Quadratic Equations Using the Quadratic Formula
Objective: The objective of this prompt is to guide students in solving quadratic equations using the quadratic formula, ensuring they understand its application and significance in finding the roots of quadratic equations.
Characteristics: This prompt will involve providing a quadratic equation in the form ax^2 + bx + c = 0, where students will need to identify the values of coefficients a, b, and c, and then apply the quadratic formula, x = (-b ± √(b^2 - 4ac)) / (2a), to find the solutions (roots) of the equation. Additionally, the prompt will emphasize understanding the discriminant (b^2 - 4ac) to determine the nature of the solutions (real, imaginary, or repeated).
Output solution by AI Generative:
Output Solution: To solve the quadratic equation, first, identify the values of coefficients a, b, and c. Then, substitute these values into the quadratic formula, x = (-b ± √(b^2 - 4ac)) / (2a), to find the roots.
For instance, given the quadratic equation 2x^2 - 5x + 3 = 0, where a = 2, b = -5, and c = 3, substitute these values into the quadratic formula to find the roots. Thus, x = (5 ± √(5^2 - 4(2)(3))) / (2(2)).
Simplifying further, x = (5 ± √(25 - 24)) / 4, leading to x = (5 ± √1) / 4. This results in two solutions: x = (5 + 1) / 4 and x = (5 - 1) / 4, yielding x = 3/2 and x = 1, respectively.
Therefore, the solutions to the quadratic equation 2x^2 - 5x + 3 = 0 are x = 3/2 and x = 1.

I would like some dopamine, please.
Today in therapy we talked about how I grew up with no source of external validation because my parents didn’t give a shit about me, so I learned to tackle goals without needing encouragement from others. This has been a good thing in some ways; I am very good at setting goals and achieving them whether or not I have someone patting me on the back, and that has allowed me to accomplish some really hard things even when I had to do it alone. My parents certainly framed this as a favor--they believed their no-love approach was more reflective of what I’d encounter in the real world and it was better for me to get used to it early.
But at the same time, they deliberately destroyed my ability to validate myself, too. If I was proud of myself for any reason, like learning a complicated piano piece or making it into the National Honor Society, they would tell me that my accomplishments were due to their effort, not mine. Or they would downplay how hard I worked. Or they would say I was “uppity” and “snobby” and thought I was better than them because I was smart/talented/whatever, but academic stuff isn’t what’s important in life, and you are a failure in other ways, blah blah blah.
Like, in 8th grade, I took Algebra 1 and neither of my parents could help me with my math homework at that point since they both dropped out in early high school. I’d get frustrated trying to figure things out on my own using just the textbook because the internet wasn’t really a thing yet. Once after hours of trying to solve an equation, I snapped at my mom because she told me that I was getting too worked up about “math that no one even uses.” I said “just because you don’t use it doesn’t mean other people don’t!” So she laid this guilt trip on me about how I clearly thought she was stupid, and she said I was ungrateful for all the sacrifices she’d made, and she finished off by suggesting that I needed to adjust my attitude and stop thinking I was special because I was smart, because maybe I was good at school but I didn’t support the household or do enough chores and I was inadequate in a million other ways.
Honestly I think that shit is what caused the fucked up reward system in my brain. Like, when I achieve a Goal, there’s no little jolt of dopamine to make me feel good about it. And that looks enough like ADHD that I’ve been officially diagnosed with it twice, but...I really think it’s just that trauma and abuse led me to uncouple feelings of pride, pleasure, and self-worth from the act of accomplishing goals. Pride goes before the fall. Pride gets you taken down a few notches, and there’s always a lower notch for you.
Even when I graduated with my doctorate, an endeavor I started in 11th grade and finished 14 years later, I didn’t feel proud of myself. Maybe for a day or two? But then, nothing. Yeah, I have a doctorate, but really, if I did it, how hard can it be? Yeah, I have a doctorate, but it took me until I was 32 to get it. Yeah, I have a doctorate, but I didn’t graduate with honors. Yeah, I have a doctorate, but but but but. I could have done more, done better, and done it faster.
I can’t feel proud of myself when I accomplish goals because there’s always more I could have done.
The goalposts move as fast as I get to them.

For me, and I won’t go too in depth, but the primary issue with AI in academic settings is that it’s absolutely lowering cognition usage and dulling critical thinking skills.
Let’s say you have to write an essay based on a book. Let’s say you do it properly. You’ve honed numerous skills while doing that: media literacy, synthesis, grammar, the ability to bullshit word count (which, as it turns out, is invaluable in the real world for several things), actually gaining knowledge from whatever the book was, etc.
Now, let’s say you wait until the night before to do it, so you cheat it. Well, you can’t pull someone else’s essay (at least not without changing it and risking that simple search professors often do, especially now, to detect plagiarism). So let’s say you just read the sparknotes or whatever and bullshit it. Well, you’ve still worked on several of those skills, including genre and content-based extrapolation. You can figure out several pieces of whatever you’re needing from the summaries of each chapter, and focus in broader strokes on the theme. There’s still SOMETHING happening in terms of intellectual load.
Now, we consider AI. You did nothing. Absolutely nothing. You didn’t read any summaries, you didn’t have to synthesize anything, you didn’t have to THINK in any capacity. It’s functionally no different than the trope of the class bully making the nerd do their homework for them. You don’t get any skills, you don’t learn anything, you just did nothing. And that is absolutely going to result in the slow decay of critical thinking skills and cognitive development, even if it’s slow or minimal at first. Because even as much as I hated some of those math classes focusing on trig or advanced algebra, I understand that the process of memorizing and solving equations and running through those processes helped parts of my brain develop, helped me flex cognitive muscles that otherwise would not have gotten quite the same workout.
The ability to dissect and understand a piece of media is of paramount importance at every level of your life cycle. And you can’t learn how to do that when you just tell AI to write your essay for you.
Did it suck doing homework? A lot of the time, yeah. And that’s an entirely different issue, our education system. But I think it would be wholly incorrect to say that cheating on homework with AI has no impact on critical thinking skills, because if absolutely does. Hell, even just the ability to do effective and accurate research is a skill that needed to be honed, and with the amount of misinformation going around (especially from AI) this is truer than ever. And kids aren’t going to be learning that. Some people, a LOT of people, still think/treat ChatGPT is/as a search engine and not an LLM that just spews out whatever SOUNDS correct.
As for Idiocracy, it is becoming more and more clear that there is an element of painful truth at the core of its absurdity. People are not operating at their peak intellectual capacity nowadays, and that’s putting it mildly. The political climate in America alone stands as a testament to the apathetic and anti-intellectual nature of most of its citizens. And it’s scary.
The world will keep turning, probably, and people will always find new and fantastic ways to change everything we do as humans. AI is not inherently bad, but just like all budding forms of tech, there are going to be downsides, exasperated by the capitalist moneymunchers that crave profit over all.
Do your homework properly, kids. It may suck now, but it’s helping you in ways you can’t fully process. Except that one teacher. They’re just an asshole.
One of the funniest examples of anti-AI reactionary sentiment has to be when people talk about it being used to cheat on school essays because sometimes it veers straight into "well back in my day cheating on essays used to mean something" like it's not enough that the evil computer allows people to cheat, it's also that the bad program robs cheating of value

Random thoughts about 6x13 before we can move on with life again
OMG. That whole episode was chaotic perfection!!! I really love those "filler episodes" that are just wacky calls, mingled with some domestic firefam shenanigan, a lot of Buddie goodness, and some heartfelt drama. Like, girls (gn), we've been FED this whole episode.
Tumblr media
Here a not at all ordered assembly of what was going through my mind, watching the episode:
Human Calculator Evan Buckley
I do hope Buck gets to keep his math skillz a while longer. And I'd really love to see it come in useful on a more serious call, too? But oh well, a fangirl can dream. Chimney asking if he did math "in his head???" was sending me. Just like Eddie's facial journeys during the math homework scene. Like, he's such a muppet.
On a more serious note, I wonder what they are going to do with that, moving forward. They laid on pretty heavy with the whole theme of figuring out the equation (hence answers in life), missing the assignment, and how Buck's skills may only be temporary. So it might be that he'll lose his way again (the same way his math skillz may leave again). We'll have to see. But it's... intriguing.
Babytrap and Sugarbaby
Like seriously. They stole this straight out of fanfic, I'm not even kidding. Eddie is babytrapping Buck so hard, only to start hustling together with him, and Buck happily handing over the money. Eddie Diaz, I'm in your walls.
Love to see Eddie being like: I will use your abilities, for evil. This guy (affectionate).
For real, though. What is the point of all that if not to give those two a nudge in the right direction (aka each other's muscly arms and taut tummies)? Eddie taking out Buck for poker dates... Them doing crime together... Them doing homework over at Buck's apartment... Buck being alone with Christopher to make cookies for school??? What is even happening??? And what's the point if not the BUDDIE AGENDA???
Also, Eddie Diaz, wear some sunglasses, your hearteyes are showing. Geez, wear some protection, you freak.
The Man with the Answers
Speaking of which, Buck's journey this season has now taken him to the stage where he feels like he is the one having the answers he's been seeking for so very long. He began this season, reading self-help books and asking e.g. Hen for the right answers. After his coma dream, Buck figured out some things about himself. He learned to appreciate his inherent value and could let go of the ghost of Daniel haunting him ever since that revelation.
Which is to say: They're moving the chess pieces in the right position, for the strategy to fully unfold. And I do believe it is the Buddie Agenda, I do.
I think a big hint was Eddie telling Christopher that the point of doing the homework himself instead of letting Buck run the calculations is that this is what's for Buck in store as well. Buck will only truly learn and get those life lessons he's so desperately seeking if he's the one to find the answers. He can't rely on self-help books or the opinions of others. He has to figure out that equation entirely on his own. He has to figure himself out.
Details that pointed me in a similar direction:
Buck telling Eddie why he didn't just get more gas: Because figuring it out was "more fun". AKA the getting to the destination is actually the goal. Buck is already where he needs/wants to be.
Eddie pointing out that those "superpowers" aren't permanent: Which may indicate that Buck will find himself struggling further down the road. Once he doesn't have the answers anymore (or rather, has them, but doesn't know how to act upon them).
Buck asking Eddie if he thinks Buck knew math all along (which is why it's actually no secret superpower via lightning ex machina): Because yes, Buck, you knew all along how to solve the equation, you're just running the wrong calculations right now. But I have faith in you that you will figure it out. Maybe just use a different measuring system!
Christopher pointing out that Buck may get more superpowers the stronger he gets: Which may be the big hint that Buck can have so much more than he currently has (more powers), the moment he understands that he already has these things (the family unit with Eddie and Christopher). He just has to claim his winnings.
I tend to believe the upshot is going to be that Buck has the answers, he just didn't put them together yet. It's like he has all the puzzle pieces, but he has to stick them together to see the grander picture (the secret ingredient). And my guess would be that it's going to be the resolution of the sperm donor storyline as well. He's looking right at the solution, and yes, it's Eddie and Christopher. And it has been all along.
The Sperm Donor Storyline(s)
Speaking of which YET AGAIN, I do find it interesting that we got this donor parallel (or antithesis) with Nathaniel and Denny vs. Buck and Kameron's and Connor's baby. Like, they now established that Nathaniel will get to play some role in Denny's life, because that is what Denny wants.
Which makes it hard for me to believe that the writers will choose the same route for Buck, also for the plain reason that they seemingly put Buck and Connor on different trajectories. Whereas Hen and Karen had an agreement with Nathaniel to keep his distance, Connor keeps sending sonograms and what not. He involves Buck actively in this whole "process" or "experience", which makes for an entirely different premise of how they are going to negotiate Buck's future role in Connor's life as well as that of Kameron and the child.
Which is something I honestly didn't see coming, I'll admit. I figured they'd take the route that him and Kameron would rather try to push Buck away (while he'd try to push into their lives). Because they chose someone as their donor who's not as much part of their social circle as Buck may have been, back when he and Connor were still roommates. The point being: I thought the storyline was going to be that Buck has to (painfully) accept Connor and Kameron having chosen him as the donor also because he'd be "easier to cut out of" their lives (and that of their child by extension). But that's not the route they are taking thus far.
But in the light of how they chose to have Nathaniel interact with Denny, I guess it makes sense. Because that'd be repetitive, in a way. Which isn't to say that Buck won't overstep and try to insert himself more into their lives than he should. I actually believe he will (it's been foreshadowed with the baby cozy and all). But Connor actively involving him thus far gives me a different vibe from what I'd previously estimated.
I'm interested to see whether they wish to explore how hard they make it on themselves, by Connor having Buck be that invested. Even though the reality is that Buck's always going to be donor not dad for that child. Like, I see great potential there. Just like I see potential character development for Connor, say, in a scenario where he feels like he's not the child's dad or so. And how he may come to struggle with that (or may even project that on Buck). There are many paths this could go.
But to turn this back to Buck here, the Nathaniel-Denny-storyline fits in so damn neatly. And I personally hope we get that kind of antithesis by the end of the season (because I'd find that very neat storytelling, is all). Namely, that Buck will do the opposite thing and extract himself from the child's life, having finally solved the equation that his family equals NOT Buck + baby but Buck + Eddie + Christopher. Because that is the stark contrast with Nathaniel. He doesn't have the family Buck already has. So that'd be the kind of bittersweet finale to that storyline I'd love to see, personally.
The Wilsons and Nathaniel
I still love to see the show standing true to exploring the different shapes family can take, now also by adding Nathaniel to the mix, portraying the tough reality that comes with this. It felt very real to me, how anxious Hen and Karen were that their son was slipping away from them.
I also liked to see Nathaniel owning up to his actions (albeit belatedly) and apologizing for his irresponsibility, without demonizing him. That guy feels very alone in this world, it'd seem, and to seek out that connection with Denny... It felt very human. So I loved to see them making it out to be just that, people making mistakes, but those mistakes being motivated by love.
And I LOVED to see Toni's growth as a character. Like, she's really trying to be there for her family, she serves as the messenger between Denny and his moms. And now she's seemingly also part of the rules Hen and Karen are setting for Nathaniel and Denny to safely interact. I love to see her safeguarding her family by opening up conversation and accepting people for who they are and how they feel. LOVE TO SEE IT. LOVE IT.
Also, loved how the Wilson family seemed to visually match, when they went to see Nathaniel at the hospital. Like, we saw a lot of yellows and blues, which signified to me that they were being there as a unit. Which tells me they're gonna be alright. Or as Toni said, they just need to figure out the right way.
Chimney's Journey to Healing
First of all, loved to see his interaction with Denny and with Hen. He's such a supportive uncle and friend (note: VERY different from what we see Buck and Christopher doing this whole episode, coz Buck ain't his uncle!!!). Like, I loved to see how he showed understanding for Denny and even let on about his own troubled feelings about his father. Even though that must still be heavy on his mind.
I do find it interesting that Chimney and the Buckley children seem to follow the same path: Which is not to forgive their parents, but to choose to let that anger/grief not control their lives anymore. Chimney has a family of his own and it's wonderful. So him coming to terms with his troubled relationship with his father in an effort to embrace the future he has as a family father is great for him. I do hope it pans out like that.
It also shows how the next generations (Chimney, Maddie, Buck) try not to repeat their parents' mistakes by holding on to e.g. grief but to choose to move on and embrace the future instead. Like, Chimney recognizes his father's humanity, well aware that this man's not changed one bit and did the terrible things he did and still does not see his son for what his son sees him (a fallible human being)... it highlights the long way Chimney's come and the great person he's become. And that's owed to the family he's found and his own strong character.
Like, I love to see that we get different versions of breaking vicious cycles.
With Eddie and Ramon, they seem to take a different route, in that Ramon seems to show genuine interest in reconnecting with Eddie, trying to find a better way for them to be father and son again.
With Toni and Hen, we see a similar thing. They reached a level of healing. Also, in that, Toni is stepping in and actively supporting her daughter and her family.
But then we still got those absentee parents who are seemingly never going to get past themselves. Which I feel is... very real in that way? You will have those people in your life. Some of them may even want to change, but they can't, past a certain point. And buying your son a new couch won't mend that relationship because you still haven't taken full accountability for what you've done in the past. Showing up to one family dinner (and being an absolute pest about it) is not going to mend things either. That's as much the reality of troubled family relationships as are the examples where there is a moving forward, together.
3 Minutes and 17 Seconds
That one's still sending me across the universe, right into a black hole. Like, they are nudging Eddie and Buck in a certain direction, but neither one is seemingly ready yet to solve the equation. Eddie knows down to the second how long he lived in a world where Buck was dead. And he feels the need to point that out, unprompted.
I honestly thought they'd have Captain Mehta point back to the shooting regarding the matter. But again, I guess timing is of the essence (maybe also signified by Buck's and Eddie's fancy watches). But after they were told that Eddie was welcome back without Buck as his human calculator, maybe we will see a second poker scene to get us there?
Like, there is something very purposeful about bringing the actor for Captain Mehta back after he left acting, really. You wouldn't do that if it didn't serve a purpose, right? And up until now, I haven't seen it. So maybe Eddie will play poker without Buck. And then Captain Mehta will say something about the shooting that either we as the audience don't know yet (e.g. Eddie lied to Buck about how little he remembers and he's only ever shared that in the poker family) or Eddie doesn't know (what Buck was like after he got shot, something that Captain Mehta witnessed first-hand).
Performance Anxiety Underway
Something that struck me was that Buck was, on the one hand, rather confident in his abilities that he started to hustle with Eddie. On the other hand, he seems very unsure about them (and what they may mean, or if they're meant to stay, or if they've been there all along). It gave me similar vibes to Buck being unsure if something's wrong with him, when the doctors did more and more tests, without telling him what may be wrong with him.
We got a hint in the previous episode that Buck still has a way ahead of him in dealing with his trauma. Right now, he is more caught up in those "new sensations", and doesn't know how to move on with his life. At the poker table, I also had a feeling that there were those moments when he wasn't just confused (as he often tends to be) or putting on a poker face. I felt like he feels out of place in a way, like he doesn't yet know what to do with his abilities/with his life, after this event. He is still doing lists to be sure he's back to reality (back to life), after all.
Deep-down, Buck is immensely insecure. And the moment he felt like something he used to be confident about (his abilities to sexually please his partners) may actually hit closer to home than just... you know, ego. They played it for laughs, having him call the women he's slept with. But they might actually turn this around to be something more serious (i.e. a symptom for something else).
Like, Buck is hellbent on pleasing other people, so potentially not being satisfactory in bed may just be the kind of performance anxiety we may see in the next episode. It ties in with Buck's previous fear that his donation isn't good enough, so he spends weeks being horny and hangry thanks to green smoothies.
If I remember correctly from some of the interviews, Buck has no intention to dip his toes back into the dating pool and will basically have the shutters on for now... Which makes it unlikely for me that he's gonna start sleeping around, to be sure that he's good at sex after all.
But if it wasn't just for laughs, I could see the theme of "having the answers already" coming back into play here. Though I'm not sure how. There's just something to that theme of Buck needing his body to be functional, and how it may give him serious anxiety, feeling like his body isn't doing what it's supposed to do (or rather, what he always believed his body was supposed to do).
On a side note: Buck telling Christopher that he likes to measure everything to feel like an actual chef hit a similar mark to me. Like, Buck is overthinking things, which may make him miss the assignment for now. Buck seemingly feels like he's only pretending at things right now (which may feed into his insecurities, really), or like he has to seize control (measuring things, calculating everything, doing those lists, and texting Bobby). Like. There is something there. I just can't wrap my wee head around it just yet.
So yeah, I can very well see Buck continuing to have performance anxiety. And I'd love to see more of that, in all of its awkward facets.
Healing Starts in the Kitchen
Kitchens continue to be the places to be for meaningful conversations for characters, and it seems to be back in full swing for Buck and Eddie. Last episode, Buck found himself finally relax when he was at Eddie's (and on Eddie's couch, hopefully soon just on Eddie). The conversation with Eddie in the kitchen definitely helped him in some ways, but the road ahead of him is still long.
It's an interesting choice that we continue to see Eddie, Buck, and Christopher being this domestic in the kitchen/at dinner tables. Like, we started out this season with Bobby's infamous lasagna and Boggle, and now we're here for math and popcorn and more math and cookies.
Others have already pointed this out, but Buck learns to express his care by cooking for his loved ones (contrast that with takeaway for his parents and waffles for Taylor at a point in their relationship where they were basically done for already). So having him repeatedly cook for/with Christopher and Eddie is just SUCH a big thing, I believe. We're shown that Buck's not just the uncle to come pick Christopher up when Eddie's car's broke. He is alone with Christopher, baking cookies for school with him. He is not just a donor, not just legal guardian (AKA the backup plan) here. And I do believe that part of Buck's journey is going to be to figure out that part of the equation.
We've already established in previous seasons that Buck's apartment is a safe space for Christopher, and it continues to be a second home for him. In the same way Eddie's house proves to be the same for Buck (as we were reminded last episode). Which has me think that part of the equation for Buck is to fully embrace that, or rather, see it for what it is, namely his path to happiness that's been there all along.
Honorable Mentions
Here's a list of things that was sending me:
Everyone of the firefam is a himbo, except for Athena and Karen. Which drives the point home that they're the only ones with the brain cell. Like honestly, Bobby and Chimney instantly jumping on detective work like that??? Buck calling his past sexual encounters??? They're all himbos, your honor!
Denny, take your damn shoes off when you are in bed, you little punk!!! Your moms raised you better than that!!!
Hen at the hospital being like "My husband? The heterosexual audacity!" was everything.
Buck continuing to creep people out with random knowledge now fueled by the power of math. We stan a himbo icon.
Eddie interrupting Buck thinking about women he's had sex with, like "I did not take you out to sexy poker night for you to use your brain for that right now, you traitor!"
I guess RIP to a favorite headcanon of mine that Buck's gonna blurt out at some point that he's screwed with plenty of guys in the past. Because he specifically started to think about the women he's slept with, though the guy was talking about partners (gn), I believe. If the writers wanted to keep that door open, I guess he would've said people or partners or whatever, too. But I shall keep it for fanfiction purposes forever and always. Because that scenario is always sending me places.
Chimney asking if Buck did math, in his head??? No, Chimney, he did it in yours, now get the hell out of here.
Buck calling the women he's had sex with... oh, those phone bills. Also: We stan a himbo icon yet again.
Buck and Eddie, doing crime, dressed in blue and red, looking damn fine. I'm here for every damn second of it.
Christopher's sass being back in full swing. We stan the one true icon.
So yeah, that's it. For now anyway. I guess I'll ramble a lot more. But I rest easy in the knowledge that Buck and Eddie marrying in Vegas just became a possibility.
Cheers!
