here’s my full review of the tortured poets department: the anthology by taylor swift. i’m just going to start off by saying this is a grown ass woman and a billionaire and if you believe her music is above reproach just because she embodies girlhood or you liked the album or whatever just keep it trucking because i get to say whatever i want here.

first here’s the songs i like:

the black dog (what girl hasn’t checked a location, i ask you?!?)

chloe or sam or sophia or marcus (it could be traffic sounds and my name being in the title will still make me like it)

now for my opinions:

many of the songs aren’t BAD just completely unmemorable like i remember nary a lyric or tune of cassandra or the prophecy or robin etc etc

jack antonoff should be strung up! the only good things he’s done are 1. melodrama by lorde, and 2. inspiring margaret by lana del rey (plus the occasional good taylor song like getaway car and sweet nothings but whatever) honestly the two have outgrown each other and their music apart is way more interesting than anything they do together. aaron dessner is a hero.

i have no technical issues with florida!!! but as someone who has spent quite a bit of time in florida it feels like someone romanticizing newark, new jersey and that feeling stretches so deep that not even florence + the machine could make me enjoy what is otherwise a really fun song

there must be something about british men bc people dating british guys write so american by olivia rodrigo and paper rings and people who have broken up with british guys write so long, london

who’s afraid of little old me feels like the perfect example of every criticism taylor gets. she is the most powerful voice in hollywood, is extraordinarily litigious, and has won in every way that matters but still she acts like every criticism of her is an attack on girlhood and feminism. like she is a grown woman writing “i’m just a girl” music about how not being universally adored is such a huge tragedy and it just feels so corny

i look in peoples windows and down bad are both songs i’m sure i’ll love two months from now

the line about 1830 without the racists is CRAZY. even without the racists that was not a good time!

overall a very weak album. it’s like she’s stuck in some sort of perma-youth where she is unable to mature beyond “all of my exes are either the devil or taylor lautner” and it shows how very insular her adulthood has been. she’s been famous her entire adult life and her music sounds like the kind of lyric a teenager writes in their notes app. like i don’t hate the music but it’s all just so extraordinarily mid. every song on this album could be on any other album of any other pop girlie and i wouldn’t blink. taylor is supposed to be one of the strongest lyricists of our time and we’re getting lyrics like “touch me while your bros play grand theft auto”

still thinking about the baby cows…. guys did you know that cows can get the zoomies. and sometimes wag their tails when they’re happy. and even excitedly jump up on you like doggies when they’re small. personally I knew most of this already before meeting the babies but I have never seen it in person and ohhhh my goddddd it was so cute. they’re so fucking cute. she nibbled and licked me and head-butted my chin and ran around in circles and wagged her tail because she was such a happy girl. fuck anyone who says cows are boring or ugly they have so much personality and most importantly are SOOOOO FUCKING CUTEEE

"Not okay" was in fact implying Both of those two things and I applaud you for getting that. I have Feelings about the ghost children and Evan especially but I cannot properly articulate them all in a single ask. Your faulty springlock idea is scarier & sadder because it implies it'd be *slower.* Michael desperately trying to get out of the suit, while Evan just as desperately pleads for him to stay. ("It's just like a hug, Mikey. Please just stay still. Please, stay. We can be friends again.")

"It's just like a hug" anon i ADORE your eye for angst; please know that I am shaking you by the shoulders in the most affectionate way possible for that heartbreaking line of dialogue.

Now I'm stuck daydreaming about Michael trying to claw his way out as Evan slowly but nonetheless desperately opens the springlocks on him + your line of dialogue from your last ask, with Evan saying "it will only hurt for a moment."

Despite how slow and agonizing impaling Michael with the faulty springlocks proves to be, Evan wasn't lying when he said it would only hurt for a moment. At least, he didn't think he was lying.

At this point, Evan was been in alone and in pain for years. In his perception, a few minutes, hours, or even days of Michael slowly bleeding out from the springlocks is nothing compared to the endless pain Evan has already been through-- and is even less when compared to the eternity of peace, love, and happiness he and Mikey will have together when the springlocks finally finish.

That's why it hurts so much more when Michael keeps trying to claw his way out and escape-- doesn't Michael see that the "brief moment" of pain will be nothing compared to the two of them having each other forever once its done? Michael said that he was sorry, that he loves Evan-- so shouldn't Mike be willing to do this for him? Why is Mike still going so far out of his way to hurt him when Evan is clearly presenting Michael the better-- no, the best possible option for the both of them?

I'm also currently toying with the idea of Evan physically feeling the pain as Michael tears apart the suit while trying to escape.

It hurt when Michael took apart the suit to hide inside it, but Evan looked past that at the realization that this was the first human touch and interaction he had gotten in a long, long time. But when Mikey tries ripping the suit off to escape? Evan feels that, too-- feels Michael not just emotionally tearing him apart, but physically as well.

it's honestly so lonely to respect your own boundaries of refusing to be used or walked all over, and respecting your own authenticity and refusing to mask just to appease others.

There's very few people out there who want to be around you whether you're at 0% or 100%, and it hurts so much to meet someone, really like them and vibe with them, only to realize they only want to be around you when youre at 75% minimum.

But you're better off keeping your circles small and close rather than winding up realizing most of your 'friends' would never actually be there for you when you truly need them.
