i'm pretty interested in all the grammar of the language!! i think you mentioned that there's a question particle that kind of works like mandarin chinese, do other final particles exist? little tone indicators in the language seems like it would help mutual understanding between a bunch of mystical star-beings :0

also, if it's been developed yet, how do verbs work in this? granted, i don't know a lot about greek/latin languages or if you're basing the grammar off of them too, but does it lean more towards romance language's crazy conjugations, or a simpler "subject verb noun" structure?

alright, this one took me a very long time to get to (because i knew it would be long and i've been working on it on and off for a while) and i'm so sorry! thank you so much for your patience veve! and it's been a little while since we've had a starspeak post so let's go!

(i will preface by saying again that the language is still very much a wip which i could change at any time, and that i'm no trained specialist; i'm just doing this for fun and there's a high chance i fully have no clue what i'm talking about 😅)

❓ i'll start with the easiest one of these and go for the question particle!

i think that Celestials are not often doubtful or questioning things, but when they do the particle is an opener rather than a sentence-final (such as ma (嗎/吗) in mandarin chinese). it otherwise works extremely similarly in that it is tagged on to turn a sentence into a question.

so the most common starspeak question particle is tc, almost a mouth sound than a word. the letters are a combination not often used elsewhere in their speech patterns, which i like to think also wraps back around to them being fairly certain of most things they open their mouths to say.

tc is predominantly used when seeking clarification about someone else's experiences, which is probably one of the more frequent times they wouldn't know something in (self-presumed) absolution.

combining it with some other things we've learned; épios (see) and eu (you) we can ask someone what they're seeing presently, where the target of the speaker (eu) is in active possession of the seeing action and vl is an active tense:

"tc vlépios eu?" // "(what's) seen (by) you?" // "what do you see?"

unfortunately in the conlangs current state, moving things around even a little bit throws out the meaning of sentences a lot, which is something i could probably iron out more with significantly more time 😅 "tc eu vlépios?" for example would be closer to "you're seen?" and "tc vlépios-eu?" would probably be like.. "what sight possesses you?", which is... still kind of the same i suppose but it's just an unnecessarily intense way to say it 😂

🥰 okay! question particle done and it was not actually the easiest but anyway; onto the personaliser! "ki".

i'm not 100% sure if this sort of thing exists in other languages or what it might be called to begin researching, but it's ostensibly a way to turn an external item or concept into something internal or individualised

asté (star/s) for instance is a very overused word in their language, understandably. you can use it to refer to gaseous bodies, other Celestials, other non-Celestial beings, or even a specific individual rank within a relationship system. ei asté applies an amount of ownership over the star/s, but still does not make them an individual in their own right. you would most likely use this if you happened to be carting around an actual giant flaming ball of gas

ei astéki however immediately makes the star something more personal, a little soul-deep. maybe it's a warm light inside you, or maybe it's the beating heart of another living being. dropping the 'ei' you could use this as a nickname, though it'd be kind of like calling someone 'person'.

"ei astéki skotei koris eu" // "my stars dimmed lacking you" // functionally just a really big ham "i missed you"

🤏 alright rolling on, last one: a diminutive. this one's easier i think; maybe i ought have started here. oh well!

like it says on the tin, this is to make things small and/or cute! the particle is ró and it is usually tacked on at or towards the end of a word. much like in english i think this is usually done affectionately. though it could be done a little pettily or rudely, being small in size is significantly less of a negatively-judged-concept by Celestials than being low in brightness.

here's some examples, probably the easiest way to go about this one! all of these are actively affectionate, not unlike a pet name?

moiydísró - (small) cheeky one astéróki - small star (personaliser; makes this a clear nickname) ei Vaýtitaró - my little gravity

💬 and then to wrap up, this last part about verbs and conjugations!

answering this one with complete confidence would require that i were a bit better at this and had it more fixed and figured out, but i'll do my best!! i'm not really basing the grammar off any one language in particular (I only use translations to form a rough sound/word and go from there), just kind of what feels like the right sort of vibe.

because i was just doing this for myself and for fun i didn't start out with any rules, just rolled with what i enjoyed! if you were doing conlang more seriously i think it would help to set those rules up at the outset 😅

in its present state, my starspeak seems to me to be a topic prominent language with less individual conjugations and more modifiers; including significant reliance on sentence order and word placement

so instead of having many different words for see (seen, saw, to see) it's more about the placement, word combinations, and other modifiers;

ei épios - me see (a request, often used in place of 'wake up') vlépios ei - seeing by me (active tense added by vl but it's not strictly necessary) eu épios - you see (the speaker sees the target) épios-koris eu - without seeing by you (sight possesses a term for "lack", so the sight itself is lacking. "you don't see clearly", ostensibly.) épios ei prioto - seeing by me before (i saw it earlier)

this is sort of a necessity because right now the overall variety of words is limited; both by the earliness of its development and also because i think that this is a species that might not have needed a lot of words.

maybe they moved the same few hundred words around and minced them up in new ways rather than making lots of new ones. maybe they might have communicated through body language as much as with words (despite how much galacta knight clearly loves the sound of his own voice) or maybe i'll change my mind and they'll be a talkative bunch and we'll have dozens of new words soon 😂

Disclaimer: This has some spice and is set in a world where Pearl never existed, so it's cannon but not that cannon. This does mean that the confession never happened, nor did the Italy fight, so this is why they're strictly platonic best friends in denial here. Other than that, enjoy!

Like most of the bad ideas she gets mixed up in, It’s Harpers fault that it happens.

One moment they’re sipping Wine-ka’s, a delicious mix of Moscato and vodka with just enough bubbles to make you real tipsy real fast -and the next Harper is typing “CREDDIE FAN FICTION” Into the google search bar. It’s harmless, she insists. Why not? 

“All I’m saying is that If my Harperheads were dedicated to writing all kinds of freakydeaky things about me and my platonic best friend with whom I refuse to admit I’m in love with, I’d be a little bit curious about what they have to say.” 

“Harper heads?” Carly grins, taking another sip of her drink. “And I’m not in love with Freddie” It’s obvious from the high pitched tone that it’s a lie, but she does what any self respecting millennial does, she buckles down. “Why would I be in love with Freddie? That’s like most ridiculous thing that could ever happen, so ridiculous that it belongs in..” she hesitates clearly looking for some sophisticated way of ending the sentence that doesn’t end with her sounding in denial. “-the book of the world’s most ridiculous things to happen…. In the world?” she finishes. Nailed it.

 “You done?” Harper asks, eyebrow raising as she gives Carly the ‘You dropped the bag’ look, which yes, she did indeed drop the bag. The bag is on the floor. “As I was saying, my Harper Heads, Harpettes, Harpies? – like groupies but with a Harp, which is fitting because you know how I like me some groupies” Carly gives her a look. “Don’t look at me like that, it could happen. And when it does, they are going to know that even though I’m Beyonce’s best-“ another look. “Err second best friend, I’m down with them getting their creative juices flowing, because one, I’m a creative mastermind myself and two, it would save me a subscription to only fans”

 “Are you done?” Carly smirks, mimicking Harper as she reaches over to try and grab her phone back. It doesn’t work. 

“Aren’t you just a little bit curious what they think?” 

Yes. “No. Besides, if I were curious that would mean that some part of me liked Freddie like that and I don’t, so I’m clearly not curious and would never be, because that would be ridic” 

“You start talking about ‘The book of ridiculous things’ and I swear I will I disown you” 

“You would never, that too belongs in the book of ridic-“ Harper throws a pillow at her head, she maybe deserves it. 

“Carly and Freddie get caught taking a late night jacuzzi together on winter break where shenanigans ensue! Ooh shenanigans, maybe your hair isn’t the only thing getting wet” 

“Harper! Hand me the phone.”

“Okay okay, too frisky, I got you. How about this one, Freddie and Carly round third base? It’s about sport? You don’t like sport, you even got kicked out of jazzercize, but third base is relatively tame, it’s like the knitting of fondling and that feels right for you”

 “HARPER” 

“Oooh the tags on this one! Fred-” 

“Is there a Freddie and Carly are super great friends and don’t do anything to jeopardise their friendship because they cherish each other too much to do so and also she doesn’t have feelings for him anyway and he has also moved on, so they just keep being best friends forever and ever and never risk ruining the friendship- fic?” Carly asks, voice once again going Shill. Traitor. 

“No” Harper deadpans, taking another sip as she eyes her down. “Because that would be stupid.” 

“Don’t you have a date go on?” Carly asks, picking up the pillow and smacking her in the stomach. 

She’s sitting on the couch sipping on another wine-ka relishing in the way the bubbles are going to her head when her phone rings, the tone playing the one that’s personalised just for Harper. What? She likes things organised, okay? 

“BESTIE!!!” Harper is clearly drunk, and by the weird slurping sounds that are coming through the phone, she’s assuming whoever is currently kissing? Suckling? In the vicinity of the phone, is also very very drunk. 

“Are you making respectable decisions?” Carly giggles into the phone, taking another sip of her sweet little cocktail. 

“Nope, the most irresponsible ones” Harper replies slurring through a laugh as she pops the p on ‘Nope’. “But I am calling you to say don’t wait up because Victor? It’s Victor right? Oh Vince, Vinet? Oooh Fancy, I like it- is going to take good care of me tonight and by care I mean-“

“LA LA LA LA I don’t need to hear the end of that sentence, just leave your location on and remember your taser.” She means it, really. The last thing drunk Harper is-is subtle. 

“Mmmmm Victo-Vinet do that thing with your tongue again. Got to go Carls and by go I mean-” 

The phone cuts out. Thank God. One accidental sex voicemail is enough for one lifetime. 

She’s in the process of checking if it’s too late to watch another episode of Teledo House Flip when she sees it, the words glowing against the stark white background of the chrome app. ‘It’s your birthday and I’ll try if I want to by Ilovecreddie69’ and she’s not curious, she’s not. It’s a mere coincidence that her eyes drift down and happen to read the synopsis, really it is. 

“Freddie wants to throw Carly a birthday she’ll actually enjoy?” she reads aloud curiosity etched in her tone. okay so maybe she’s a little intrigued. After all, it was only a few months ago that she helped throw Freddie the party of his dreams, it only makes sense that she’d be curious what kind of party their fans think he’d know her well enough to throw for her. There’s nothing weird about that right? Right. Besides, her birthday IS coming up soon, so this is kind of fitting. 

So far it’s not so bad, it’s cute even. Fic Freddie has spent the morning worrying about trying to make her birthday special because fic Carly hates her birthday. Not so far off reality, so far so good. For her birthday this year fic Freddie has decided he wants to give it a shot to make it the best birthday she’s had, why? Because he can’t face the thought of anyone not liking the day his best friend was born, especially when the main culprit is his best friend herself. What better way than to start all of these festivities then to bake her a cake. it’s pretty tame really and not at all as weird as she thought it would be. Maybe it’s the wine talking, but she’s not not enjoying it, it’s entertaining, maybe Harper was on to something. 

She’s up to the part where he starts cooking the cake when she gets the brilliant idea. Freddie. She’ll text it to Freddie. After all her birthday is coming up and they’re always sending each other subtle hints for activities or things they want to do together, why would this be any different? Even Harper said it wasn’t weird. Freddie will get it, he’ll laugh and say ‘noted’ and on her birthday there will be a terribly made cake with sloppy frosting and a cute card and they’ll maybe say a thank you to Ilovecreddie69 when she blows out the candles. 

Yes, she’s going to send it. It’s harmless! 

She copies the link, opening her messenger app to post it in with the comment ‘A hint for my birthday’ and presses send. Harmless!

She’s all but forgotten about the text half an hour later when his reply comes in, the chime designated specifically for Freddie because organised, remember? playing out into the kitchen where she’s currently stacking her wine glasses into the dishwasher. 

Ding.

“Is Harper with you?” That's a weird question to ask, she thinks, reading his response. Then again, it's Harper so it's very possible she’s texted Freddie thinking Carly would be with him, to let them know she's with Vinet and now he's just checking in. Sweet, caring Freddie, how could anyone not love him? 

“No, she's out for the night, I don't think we'll be seeing her for a good 12 hours at least. Did she call you?”

She watches as the phone lights up with the three dots signifying he's typing before they disappear again. Weird. It happens three times, dots, no dots, dots, no dots, dots, dots, dots, no dots. Finally, just as she's beginning to think he fell asleep she gets a reply. 

"You want me to do this...for you?"

All those dots for that? He's acting weird, technically she realises that, but also reality is she's still pretty tipsy so it’s also very possible she's just thinking he's being weird? Who is she to determine after three flasks of wine-ka's that he's off. His text probably just means 'I want to make sure your birthday is great and I'm just checking it's a cake you want because I care about making it perfect for you' which again, is very Freddie andalso why he is the best friend ever. Even over text he's sweet, she thinks. 

She starts typing back. 

"Yes please, but I realise I've kind of taken the surprise out of it now." 

He responds back immediately. 

"I'm certainly surprised." He's surprised? Crap. What was she thinking? He probably already had something planned because he’s Freddie, and now she's gone and messed up his plan by bringing it up. Drunk Carly logic, it’s seamless. 

She quickly taps out a response attempting to do damage control because really, Carly, you can’t just take over your best friend's plans for your birthday, that’s rude. 

"I’m sorry if I've jumped the gun here, you know I’d be happy with anything you came up with, you don’t have to do this. As long as I've got you by my side, it'll be perfect." There. Much better. 

She's humming to herself on the way to her bedroom as his reply finally arrives. 

"You haven't jumped the gun, I guess I'm just confused?" Confused? What does that even mean. She texts back straight away. 

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have sent it, forget I did, okay?" This is the last time Carly is drinktexting, it feels like she's doing a mental sobriety test and failing spectacularly. She blames the bubbles. 

"What if I didn't forget it, what would you want if it were now?" His question confuses her. Right now? Her birthday isn't for another three weeks, does he think she wants cake right now? I mean she's always open to cake, it’s cake -but right now it's almost 12am and who bakes a cake at midnight? She's about to tell him as much when the thought comes in that maybe fic Freddie has another birthday surprise that she missed and real Freddie is asking her what she thinks. It makes way more sense that this is why Freddie is asking her to choose what she wants. She was right, he really was planning her birthday! 

She opens the fic back up this time scrolling down as you do when you're a little bit drunk and oblivious to the fact your whole world is about to shift. 

'Sucks the frosting off her neck’

'Unzips her dress' 

'Straddles his waist' 

Oh my God. What the hell did she send him?! 

Her phone dings again. Freddie. Oh God. His messages. 

She reads back up, starting from the top as she goes back down through each of their messages reading her own words as she practically propositions him leading all the way down to his recent text which just says "Carly, please.." In context, everything he said prior now makes sense. In context, she’s screwed. 

She's got to reply, she's got to say something, she knows that. But what? What does one possibly say in this situation? 'I'm sorry, Freddie, I sent you a story with you licking cake frosting off my chest by accident because I thought it was just the cake being made and I really wanted a cake'? Yeah, that’s brilliant, NOT. And his reaction, He’d said 'what if I didn't forget it', he’d asked her to tell him what she wants. That's not a rejection, that's not a 'I don't want to cross this line' that's a please, right? I mean he literally has texted Please, Carly. 

She's internally freaking out now, externally too as she paces the floor of her bedroom. Could she do this with Freddie? Could she cross this line? The wine says yes. The heat rolling through her body also says yes. Her brain says....maybe? It's a bad decision, it's definitely a bad decision and yet... 

"You go first" she's typed it before she can stop herself, curiosity for what he's about to say overpowering any sense of self control. And she is curious; she'd be lying if she said she wasn't. I mean she's thought about it enough times, wondered what it might be like, what he might be like. Would he be gentle? Would he surprise her? Would he take control? What would he do? When they were young, they were both inexperienced teens having their first go with feelings and flirting and intimacy. Their kisses, if you could even call them that, while sweet at the time, were childlike, but now.. now they'd grown up and that meant the chance for more was definitely… possible? Maybe this was the universe's way of letting them finally get to the bottom of it, in a safe and controlled way that left them both in the safety of their own rooms. The universe is kind like that. 

The text comes in. 

"I'd take your hand and turn it over, so your palm was facing up and I'd gently brush my lips over your wrist" Oh.. 

Heat rushes to her face and her cheeks turn a warm shade of pink as she reads his words, words meant only for her. It feels like the rest of the world has disappeared, like they're suddenly in this vulnerable and safe place where only they exist. "Keep going, please?" She sends through as she sits on the edge of her bed. 

"I know we'd both be nervous, so I'd take it slow, leaving small little kisses all the way to the inside of your elbow before I stopped." Why? 

"Why would you stop?" She asks him, biting her lip as she waits for his reply. 

"Because I'd want to see you, I'd want to know if your cheeks flush when I touch you, if you'd bite your lip the way you do when you're nervous..." 

It's the most romantic thing anyone has ever said to her and its Freddie, her Freddie. How? 

"I bit my lip reading what you wrote...." 

"I wish I could see" he writes back immediately, and she does too. As strange as it is to admit that she really wishes he could see it too. 

They're only a hallway apart. A few 100 meters if that. It would be so easy, so simple to walk out the door, down the hall and see him. And yet she can't, not yet. It's one thing to cross this unspoken boundary over text, it's another thing entirely to do it for real. Here it's almost pretend, a hypothetical equation if you will, make believe. In an hour they'll put down their phones, go to bed and in the morning, they'll be back to being Freddie and Carly again. But for now... for now, she's gets to pretend. 

She sets some ground rules for herself. No photos, no phone call, nothing real, it's just texting, just them telling a story, acting out the role of characters, like a skit, she does them all the time, this is just the same thing. - it's a lie, she's aware of that, but at the same time, it's the only way she can deal with what they're doing, the line they're crossing.

"I'd want to kiss you" she types into her phone, before taking a few deep breaths deliberating on whether to send it. If she presses send, they're really doing this. It’s not lost on her that so far she's not given much back, in fact she's not really had to put herself out there at all. She could easily pretend to fall asleep and end this now.... but she doesn't want too. She counts to three and then presses send before starting to type again. "If it were now, I'd probably tell you I've thought about this moment a lot" 

Her phone buzzes. "If it were now, I'd ask you if it was recent?" 

"My thoughts?" She asks, preparing herself for the possibility that he may be wanting to know if she thinks about him, present tense, now. She does. 

"Yes" he responds. And okay, they’re doing this then, they’re admitting their feelings, maybe? She’s still not even sure if this is the question he’s asking, but to her, it is, so she goes with it, empowered by the liquid courage.

"I'd tell you yes" It’s the truth. 

"Can I ask another question...?" He asks. 

She's nervous now. "Okay..." 

"What happens tomorrow?" 

His question is the last one she’s expecting. I mean they’re practically admitting their feelings for each other which has never really happened, maybe has been a long time coming, and now he’s possibly ruining for them with a ‘What happens tomorrow?’. It’s not a question she’s ready to answer. They are not a reality she’s ready to give in to. It’s just too much, the risk of ruining what she already holds so dear? It’s not possible.. 

She texts him back. "We wake up.." It might ruin it, but at least it won’t ruin them, if the damage isn’t already done. Stupid Harper. 

"So this a dream?" Freddie asks her. 

"Yes" It’s just a dream. It can’t be more. It’s unspoken. 

"Okay" he texts, and her stomach sinks. Okay? You’ve messed it all up. She’s about to write her own ‘Freddie, please’ when another text lights up the screen. “If it were now, I’d cradle your face in my hands and I'd kiss you while guiding you backward until your back hit the wall." Shit. 

She types back, a wave of need rushing over her. 

"If it were now, I'd slip my fingers into the top of your pants and tug your body closer to mine so that I could feel you... against me" and she really means it. If she closes her eyes and imagines his words she can practically feel it, feel the way his warm body would melt with hers, his heavy breathing mixing with her own as they linger in the anticipation of what’s to come, what it all means.

Ding. 

"If it were now I'd whisper into your lips that you're driving me crazy" She can practically taste it. 

She’s breathing heavily as she replies. "If it were now, I'd look you in the eyes and tell you to take off your shirt" She wonders what he’s doing, what’s he’s thinking, is his face heating up? Is there a flush to his cheeks? Where is he sitting? Is he laying? Is he surprised to finally hear her say those words? She wants to know, but then those questions.. She’s not ready to go there, this on its own is more than she ever expected, those boundaries, they’re uncrossable. But for a moment she closes her eyes again, expanding on the last image. His hands reaching down to lift his shirt over his head, her own moving forward to touch him in a way she's never given herself permission to imagine before. It's.... 

Ding. 

"If it were now, I'd tell you that if you keep looking at me like that, I'm not going to keep being able to hold back from touching you" Fuck. Okay, so he HAS surprised her. And now she wants it more. 

"If it were now, I'd tell you to quit trying" 

"I'd pick you up and wrap your legs around my waist as I pressed your back into the wall again" He’s quit pretending it’s a hypothetical, throwing away the safety net of the ‘if it were now’ which both scares her with its intensity and intentionality and also makes her even more desperate for him. She wants it. 

"Mmm" she texts back, wanting him to know that she’s effected, that he’s doing for her exactly what she hopes she’s doing for him. 

Ding. 

"And I'd kiss my way from those pretty little lips of yours all the way to your neck so I could whisper into your ear how I can't wait to take you back to my bed, how I'm going to take my time learning all the places I've never been able to learn." That does it. She can’t. 

"Take me back" She writes. 

"Just a dream right?" He responds. 

"Just a dream" She confirms before writing again. "Freddie, take me back to your room."

Okay so this little thinking about stuff spiraled into "this may appear concerning" so. The tone for me is just "wow people are not very understanding and it can be pretty mean actually".

Not a fan of the whole "if you survived it before you can survive it again!" style of 'encouragement' people like to give me some times.

Disability and medical support people love saying that when they want an excuse to get rid of difficult patients

It's actually agonisingly painful to go through that kind of trauma regardless of how alive you are at the end

Still breathing isn't the same thing as recovered. Like people get that right? That surviving before still left me with permanent damage?

Watching my body + mind becoming unfamiliar around me in desperate attempts to survive is not the sort of thing you want to go through too many times y'know?

Like that sort of thing does not go back.

After you change over and over. The idea breaks down a little more each time. The first me that survived is so different.

Just want to get used to myself again. And figure out what will heal. And figure out what needs to be put back together.

Which cannot bloody happen on a merry-go-round of trauma

Steve had tried everything.

Everything he could think of, everything Robin could think of, everything anyone that would engage him in conversation about winning someone over could think of.

His original plan with Theresa was more complex than he thought. Steve was a quick study, but not as fast as he had hoped. So that idea had to go on the back burner, but if Steve knew anything about dating, he knew he just had to get Eddie to think about him.

Once Steve realised his feelings, he could not be stopped, but thankfully he had Robin on hand to reign him in on occasion. To remind him that Eddie wasn't one of his sportsball games. To remind him that Eddie might not be where Steve is with things and needs more time. She even suggested that maybe Eddie didn't feel like that at all, but to Steve, that was impossible.

"Steve, are you one hundred per cent sure, he's into you? Maybe it was a dream, or-or your brain has embellished some details, or, you know, all those knocks to the head are finally coming home to roost?" She had asked as carefully as she could, as Steve was handwriting a note to attach to one of the dozen red roses he'd spray-painted black.

"Do you think I'd be risking everything in a maybe?! I wish I could just take my memories and throw them up on a screen for you. It's in his eyes, his smile, and the way we touched." Steve lets out a cartoon-princess-level sigh and looks out of the window.

"Well, maybe you're coming on too strong for Eddie? Maybe you're scaring him. At the very least, you're scaring me. Are you obsessed with him? Are you like his stalker now?" Robin asks, her tone and eyes getting more excited with each question.

"No, Robin, I'm not. It's just my original idea is the one. I know it. It ticks all the boxes. It's gonna sweep him right off his feet, but it's taking time. In said time, someone else could swoop in and intercept him, and I'm not gonna let that happen. Not again"

"Oh my god...this again?? That was a unique set of circumstances, Steve, otherworldly ones, and honestly, from the sounds of things, Nancy wasn't all that into you anyway. Otherwise, she wouldn't have ended up with Jonathan. So if Eddie is into you as much as you think he is, he's not gonna just get with someone else."

"Hey! Why don't you let me handle what I know? I know this stuff, Robin. He asked me to stop calling I did. You told me to stop leaving dice on his steps because they were a hazard, so I did. Max told me to stop jogging to her house every day because her mom was beginning to ask questions about some of the clothes I might have forgotten there. So I did, even though it was a perfect view and enabled me to hide the custom-made guitar picks with our initials around his trailer. I saw him at least three times pick those up and put them in his pocket. He smiled at one I saw."

Steve knew deep down he was right on the money with this, but he also knew that his friends were only trying to help him. It was so frustrating that no one else could see what Steve had.

Yes, Eddie had bellowed at him down the phone, but after what happened, it was music to Steve's ears. The fact that Eddie was so mad, even though Steve wished that hadn't happened, meant that he cared.

Steve needed to learn Eddie better to narrow down what form of flirting worked on him best. So Steve had tried to show him he would jog across town just to see him. He had taken note of his interests. He would send him little messages and personalised gifts. He would swamp Eddie Munson with romance until Steve was penniless if he had to.

All he wanted was a chance. Was that so bad?

"Yes, but then what happened to the others?" Robin asks. Steve can tell she's trying to make him recall the whole sequence of events, not just his personally selected highlights.

"What after he heard me cheer?" Steve winces, knowing what is coming next.

"Yes, after he heard you cheer behind the trash cans, Steve," Robin says. Though her tone softens, she is still trying to be as straight-talking as possible.

"He pulled out a bag of them, started throwing them at me, and shouting. They were really sharp too. " Steve subconsciously rubs his arm, "He has great aim when he's mad. I can't believe he wasn't into sports." Steve says with genuine admiration and laughs to try and deflect the fastball of reality coming his way.

"Steve", Robin holds his upper arms and turns him towards her, so she can look into his eyes, "I understand you want to get his attention, but you're just making him mad. Maybe after this next idea, maybe you let him miss you a little bit?"

"Miss me? You mean forget me? No, no way!" Steve waves his hand in front of him and turns back to start writing another note card, "What rhymes with Slayer?" Steve asks, desperately trying to avoid the inevitable moment of realising Robin is right.

"You ever heard the phrase, Absence makes the heart grow fonder? Have you never sat on your bed dreamily thinking of someone because you haven't heard from them in a while? After this week, it would be impossible, without a large chunk of hypnotherapy, for Eddie to ever forget you. Ever, ok?"

Steve sighs and slumps in the nearest chair, "I just want another Saturday, but just the good bits, you know. I just want a chance. That's all I'm asking him for."

"Steve, I know you aren't a bad guy, but your behaviour is starting to go that way right now. So maybe respect his boundaries instead of ignoring them. Maybe don't demand he gives you a chance. Maybe if he had some time, that thought might pop into his own fluffy-headed brain. So after the roses, we give him a break. Maybe just send one. Quality, not quantity, you know?" Robin sits next to him and puts a hand on his shoulder to console him, but Steve knows something she doesn't.

Steve bites his lips together as their eyes meet, and Robin's eyes go wide with horror.

"What else is there, Steve?" Robin says seriously.

"Well...um...maybe there is a sing-a-gram, and erm, the um corroded coffin balloons, and that new D&D module."

"Steve..." Robin tries gently and gives him that look that finally sends it home that he is overdoing it.

"Fine. I'll cancel the sing-a-gram and the balloons even though I can't get a refund now. But I'm sending a rose with two notes and the module!" Steve says defiantly.

Steve begrudgingly tries to pick his two favourite notes to attach to the best rose of the bunch. Finally, a smile begins to emerge on his face. Maybe none of these little trivial gifts would work, but his big plan, he is absolutely one hundred per cent confident, is going to absolutely floor Eddie. 

Steve was going to make Eddie Munson completely speechless, and he could hardly wait.

Choi Miyoung sighed, staring at the endless number of files stored in her laptop. Her room now a mess of music sheets, chip packets, and an unhealthy amount of stress.

She had a billion deadlines to be met- what felt like a billion. Lesserafim, Kiss of Life, twice, aespa, red velvet, and her own projects. How the hell would she complete any of it? She was glad she got NCT out of the way at least.

Yellow summer felt more like Blue freezing winter right now. Her thoughts were interrupted as someone called for her, "Noona! Minyoung finished making dinner! It's getting cold come right now!"

Sighing yet again, she stood up from her swivel chair and got out of her dark room. The light of the living room piercing her eyes as she made her way towards the dining table.

"That tteokbokki looks great Minyoung," she complimented, sitting down and grabbing a pair of chopsticks. "I helped you know,"

"Youngmin, standing and irritating me isn't helping," Minyoung rolled her eyes. "Noona! I suggested adding the cheese!" He complained to Miyoung.

"Yea sure, you helped," she sarcastically said. "But Minyoung, this is great!"

"The Favouritism is real," Youngmin pouted.

The two sisters laughed at their annoying brother before continuing to eat the tasty rice cakes.

"Unnie, is everything okay? You seem really stressed."

"Uh Unnie, you're yellow summer right? Why don't you calm down a little? Cheery thoughts?"

"To be honest, no," she paused, taking a deep breath, "I already had to make so many songs for other groups and now, if I want to debut, I have to make 6 demo songs." Her younger siblings put down their chopsticks, feeling ever-so bad for their sister, who spoke so sadly.

"Can you believe it? That fucking asshole Kim knew I'm freaking Yellow summer and have all these other groups to write for but that shitty jerk had to give me such a task. One song has to be upbeat like a title track about guitars, one has to be chic and cool, one has to have a nostalgic feel, another has to have a hip-hop feel to it, one should be fucking calm or something and one has to be "sexy" what the absolute hell does he mean!?" Miyoung's previously somber tone suddenly turned into a furious one, scaring the 13 year old twins.

"You're right, sorry for screaming like that,"

"Do you have any idea, what you're gonna do?" Youngmin asked.

"Well I have basic ideas for most of them but the hip-hop one- I'm freaking lost- like what do I even write-" Miyoung's rant was interrupted when the sound of an ambulance passed by. The siren going off loudly.

"Wait a minute..." she tilted her head to the side.

"Wait you were able to do it?"

"All the six songs?"

"In 9 days?"

"How?"

"Are you god?"

A multitude of questions came from her possible future members as the group waited in a practice room. Mr.Kim taking his sweet time to arrive.

"I mean, I barely slept but the job's done so-" Miyoung was interrupted when the door of the room opened up, revealing the unusually cheery executive. He fixed his suit before asking, "So you actually completed it huh? Or are you gonna make up some excuse right now?"

"I actually did it you ass- I mean I completed all of it." She quickly corrected herself, when one of the girls beside her pinched her arm.

"Alright go ahead."

"The first track is called Get a guitar and it goes like this-"

The strums of a guitar echoed across the room as the addictive track began- before everyone knew it they were vibing to the dun dun of the song.

And then the next track called Blue flame played, the members already visioning the possible choreography for the song.

"The next song is Memories, and I personalised one of the lyrics for the group name."

Everyone realised what she meant when the "we rise" part came along.

"This one is called talk saxy,"

"This is the calm song you asked for, it's called cool with you."

"...And finally this one is siren."

'BEEP BEEP BEEP-'

"Ohhh!" The group couldn't help but cheer because of the hype feeling of the song. Everyone enjoyed the beats of it, until it was over.

"Oh, well, Ms.Choi, you did a great job, congrats on being Riize's composer, I hope you continue to release such good tracks for their group." With yet another smirk, Mr.Kim walked out of the room, leaving everyone shocked at his decision.

Clenching her fists, Miyoung ran out of the room, knowing she wouldn't accept such a conclusion.

"Mr.Kim, you-you can't turn back on your words! You said that-"

"Well I only said that, it was never official per se,"

"But your word is official," she argued, feeling defeated.

"Well a girl like you, whose past is covered with scars, shouldn't debut, do you know what a stain you'd be? A worthless orphan? What if people find out about your siblings, they'd think you're some whore who got pregnant young and are taking care of your fucking kids, aish, seriously just stick to being a faceless composer yea?" He walked away, leaving her seemingly alone in the hallway, tears forcing their way out.

She stayed there frozen for a couple of minutes, actually taking his words seriously. "Did I just waste all my time for nothing?" She thought.

A creak alerted her and she quickly wiped her face with the sleeve of her sweater, looking at the group that was walking out of the room. (They had been called by one of their managers)

"Congrats on your debut, fighting," was all she said to them as they gave her sympathetic looks- the expressions she despised. People shedding pity on her, it made her feel pathetic and weak and she hated that entirely.

"Don't feel bad for me, if you do that I won't give these songs to you guys!" She joked through her tears, trying to avoid their pity.

"Guys, what are you doing come quick, you have a meeting." The 11 people soon began leaving.

Miyoung was about to go back in the room and get her laptop but she felt someone grab her hand.

He was the boy that she thought was the best-looking out of the bunch. The one with a charming smile that seemed all too endearing. Wonbin was it?

"Miyoung, I don't know what you've been through at all but all I know is that you're so strong, I'm guessing your siblings only have you as a guardian, so you're amazing for persevering through that." He took a pause, looking at her rather confused expression- her eyes still teary. "I'm not giving you pity... but I'm telling you that you're great, don't listen to that asshole."

We’re addressing a few common myths and demystifying how Alexa works. Here’s what you need to know:

Myth 1: Alexa is recording everything I say, all the time.

Fact: By default, Echo devices are designed to record audio only after the device detects your chosen wake word (or if the action button is pushed).

Until your Echo device detects your chosen wake word—current options include “Alexa,” “Amazon,” “Echo,” “Ziggy,” and “Computer”—Alexa does not record or store what you or any other person in the room has said. This is made possible by built-in technology called “keyword spotting” that matches spoken audio to the wake word’s acoustic patterns. Echo devices are designed to listen for the sound waves of the wake word while ignoring everything else. This is why your device can detect the wake word without listening in on your personal conversations.

Customers will always know when Alexa is listening to their request. Echo smart speakers have a blue light indicator that glows when the device is listening and an optional audio tone. In the Alexa app, a blue light indicator bar appears at the bottom of the phone screen when Alexa is listening.

I've become tired of constant software updates, planned obsolescence, and my battery running flat by 3pm every day. And now the introduction of AI generated content. If no one can be bothered to create it why would I bother to look at it, y'know?

So yesterday I went and bought this beauty. She's a Nokia 325 4G in "Future Dusk" (that's dark purple) and she cost $89.

This was the most up-spec phone I could find that didn't run android (or ios). She has a 2mp camera! I'm thrilled with how grainy and creepy the photos look, but i am going to need to get a proper camera, which is not a bad thing. I've been sussing out some options and I think I've found a cool Canon compact on Marketplace.

I've gotta tell you though, this feels like it has less personalisation options than my old 3315. It probably doesn't though. although what ever happened to a little hook on the corner so i could attach a wrist strap or a little flashing hello kitty charm or whatever? rude.

Ring tones are limited but you can set MP3's as ring tones so that's fine. The standard text tone I've set is actually very cute, it sounds very magical, and receiving text messages is suddenly very exciting. especially since I've become so used to messenger.

Oh wait! I've just figured out how to add words. Great. So like, even as someone who's used this kind of tech before, there's still a little bit of a learning curve as I reacquaint myself with it.

There's no way to move menu options around to suit my preference as far as I can tell but there aren't that many of them so it's not that much of an issue.

The big challenge I'm facing is how to listen to audiobooks. I've become rather reliant on listening to audiobooks in order to get tedious tasks done. It's honestly something I dreamed about as a kid and audible basically saved my life, I'm not even exaggerating (much). This little phone can play mp3s, and there are ways to convert audible files to mp3 but having a 30 hour long mp3 with no way to skip back and forth on the track is not especially useful, and there's also no way that i've found so far to change the play speed.

There are MP3 players capable of running audible, but that also means they're capable of running all the other apps that I don't want to be able to have access to. I don't feel that I'm addicted to my phone precisely but I also don't have a lot of self control as regards the bad habit I've developed of reaching for my phone any time my hands are not otherwise engaged.
