PHOTOGRAPHY | MATTEO DE MAYDA: BIKE TUNING PALERMO

Back in time when the italian photographer Matteo De Mayda captured the bike tuning phenomenon, which has become a trend among music-loving teenage cyclists of Palermo. They spend anywhere between 800 to over 1,200 euros, to have their bikes converted into powerful sound systems on wheels, allowing them to pump out up to 1250W of sound as they cruise the city streets, playing neomelodic music and house. The typical setup of a tricked out stereo cycle is: a head unit on the handlebar, speakers and tweeters in the middle section of the bike, between the seat post and the handlebar, and amplifiers, subwoofers and car batteries in the back.
