Vladimir Tatlin, "Monument to the Third International," c. 1919-1920
Left-Futurist artist Vladimir Tatlin was commissioned by the Fine Arts Department (IZO) of the new Russian revolutionary government in 1919 to conceptualize a monument in commemoration of the October Revolution. His result (shown here) would have been larger than the Eiffel Tower and nearly impossible to construct even in peacetime. Truly gigantic, it would have served as the headquarters of the Third International (which later became the Comintern).
For Disco Elysium fans, this is Ignus Nilsen's matchbox tower of Lysenkoist-infra-materialist wizardry
(Edit: this post blew up kinda! follow me if you wanna see more Soviet modernist art and Disco Elysium related posts)
