The Worm's Apple
(Spamton AU reference sheet) 1 2
Text ver and close ups below
Tumblr media
This version of Spamton claims to be a spam program, but his credibility appears to be dubious. Covered from neck to toe and wearing a strange mask, the little of him that is visible doesn't quite match. But, the only thing more hated than spam is malware, so what reason would he have to lie?
Tumblr media
- He walks stiffly. His torso barely moves, his legs don't bend, and his arms hang limply when he attempts to look normal.
- He purposefully wears baggy clothes to hide the abnormal shape of his body and limbs.
- While he attempts to make his legs look plantigrade, the actual digitigrade shape of his legs often shows through his pants.
- He keeps his long tail curled tightly behind him. However, it often unfurls when he experiences strong emotions or feels comfortable.
Tumblr media
- His neck is unnaturally long and flexible, as though it lacks vertebrae.
- Not beating the cat allegations
Tumblr media
- Spamton often hisses and spikes up his fur when angry or threatened. His suit limits his senses, physical defenses, and mobility, so he resorts to many threats.
Tumblr media
- Even when alone in the city, Spamton usually leaves his suit on until he can bring it home. However, he won't pass up the opportunity for a meal along the way.
- (Tiny comparison of a real spam program, an addison, and Spamton in the bottom right corner)
Tumblr media
- Spamton actually keeps himself as clean as possible, even if he can't clean his clothes. Regardless, he likes performing his self cleaning mechanisms as a stim, even while wearing his suit. He rubs his nose and rubs his arms together in the same way that insects clean dust off their antennae and legs.
Tumblr media
- Spamton's hands are quite small, and his relatively long fingers often show up through his mittens. The fabric is damaged from the numerous holes that his claws have poked through them.
- He's around 5 ft (~150 cm) tall, with a 7ft (~215 cm) long tail
-----
I'm no character designer (Spamton's suit here is literally just the miniature outfit I made for my spam plush), but I like what Disguised Wormton has become over the past two years. While completely accidental, the five-petal shape and yellow thread of his button/pin perfectly represents an apple tree blossom, a nod to his symbolism. The rest of his attempt at an outfit is "hide as much as possible, but still look good doing it." ...as good as he thinks an untucked shirt and clothes ten sizes too big look. He's meant to appear incredibly uncanny when he puts effort into "being normal," looking more like a shuffling zombie than anything natural. I think the round and wide shapes of his suit contrasted with the long, thin, and sharp points of his only visible features adds to the untrustworthness he radiates. His animalistic tendencies look worse when performed by something trying to look humanoid. Even if it's more comfortable for him, the incorrect bend of his legs, the perpetual raptor arms, the absurdly long tail, and his awkwardly long neck highlight the concept of something trying so hard to look human (or humanoid in the case of Deltarune) yet always failing. That's what I was going for when designing him, at least. After writing like 50k words about disguised Wormton, he honestly might be creepier than normal Wormton. I'd rather deal with the obscure cryptid that hisses and runs away than be approached by this kidney stealer lookin mf trying to sell used cigarettes or something. He's definitely grown on me, though. In a "I would never want to be locked in a room with any of the characters I like" kind of way.

How would Seam and Swatch interact? Would they eventually both realize that both of their [Little Guys] got screwed over by the same mysterious figure?
ty for the ask!!! my short answer is that they'd get along well and have a lot in common, longer answer is under the cut.
this is entirely based on my own interpretation of course, but i don't normally depict spamton and swatch interacting in my own art because i tend to think their relationship would be contentious and done through their pre-game roles. i don't particularly subscribe to the idea that swatch and spamton were great friends, but more of spamton heavily projecting the idea that swatch was a good listener and ally while swatch was acting through his role as head butler and trying to be respectful to this influential yet overwhelmingly unpleasant little man that Queen had allowed to live in the mansion. all of the new information from the Spamton's Sweepstakes is true, but of course filtered through the lens of spamton's demonstrably biased worldview.
Tumblr media
swatch, when talking about spamton, doesn't want to talk about it much out of the sake of being polite to a group of young Lightners. he has a strong devotion to his position as butler but also a Darkner, and along with that the hierarchy of Darkners as subserviant to Lightners. i feel like he would have already been put through stress of tending to Spamton as he spiraled emotionally (and if i'm injecting headcanons blatantly, even beforehand with his ego and disregard of others) but Spamton's insistence of going to the basement to harness the discarded NEO body would have permanently soured swatch's opinion of spamton, much like how the act was shocking to seam even being told it secondhand. it's my personal belief that swatch may have played a role in spamton's ejection from the mansion, and obviously worked to ensure that Spamton couldn't break in and manipulate the NEO body.
Tumblr media
its definitely 'personal' considering how heavily spamton covers and crosses out swatch in merch (this is from the fangamer specil pak ad), leading me to believe he projected on swatch heavily and felt 'betrayed' by him when it turned out that it wasn't the case. it's a pattern of behavior for spamton to feel incredibly betrayed by people who he felt have done them wrong. the addisons, jevil, swatch, and queen jump out right away.
is it possible that swatch liked spamton at a point? sure. he was once a great customer, but i feel like there's a moral difference of what spamton ended up doing versus what swatch considers acceptable. part of the reason why i think once spamton and jevil work out their mysterious transgressions in the past they'd work out as a couple, since they're coming from similar moral points (which is to say, not much morals at all).
OK i ended up talking up way too much about swatch and spamton LOL. but taking all this into account, seam and swatch would get along well, considering they're both ex-staff of royalty who dealt with two people who became corrupted. i think of the two, seam has the most 'positive' outlook of jevil and spamton (though might still have quiet distrust and reservations) while swatch is more polite out of obligation. i could see both of them hanging out along with rouxls and tasque manager, as people who've dealt with similar situations of serving royalty and now being without a 'role' in the world. i love the idea of all of them hanging out and reminiscing about the old days, especially in helping seam to find more meaning in the world that they were losing reasons to have faith in.
also unrelated have this doodle that was on my canvas. just for you.

slightly hate it when people 'yassify' waluigi. you people are weak.
waluigi fits the beauty standard of skinny arms, long legs, slim waist etc.
waluigi literally has elf ears which are incredibly attractive like wth
always smiling (very approachable)
incredibly flirty
lucious locks (he has nice hair)
technically he has a love heart face.
eyebags are apparently in.
if you remove the cap and gloves he literally just dresses like a normal person (ok, fair enough, the elf boots are a bit weird but he has elf ears so it works).
nice guys always finish last but he's a bad boy /j
and ok, sure, he does have a big nose and chin, but who cares? a man's gonna have imperfections.
if this is the era where a disembodied voice, a skeleton and spamton are some of the most attractive people ever, then goddamn it, waluigi is child's play. 'hear me out' ok but he's a human??? we dont need to hear you out???
waluigi IS conventionally attractive, you guys are just weaklings believing that you are strong. your takes are lukewarm at best. go home.

aro ace jevil??? he's green and purple!!
he sure is!! I headcanon jevil as ace and greyromantic
I don't think Jevil is interested in kissing or things like that, unless it's funny bugs bunny style, but for genuine affection i don't think he really wants that. He is okay with hugs, cuddling or holding hands, in fact he loves it, he is going to hug everyone and put a funny sign on their backs
When it comes to greyromantic, I think jevil sometimes feels romantic attraction, but it has only happened two or three times in his life and sometimes that attraction is very close to platonic or simply not a very strong romantic attraction or at least, it's different from how alloromantics feel romantic attraction. For example, I think he liked Spamton! I also think their relationship wasn't very conventional, Jevil doesn't really follow typical romantic relationship rules, and this doesn't mean they didn't like each other any less, for a while they were happy! You know, it ended on break-up/divorce, but it was a fun relationship and I like to think Jevil still thinks Spamton is cool, it's only Spamton that has any resentment because he is Spamton and he has a lot of issues antagonizing people (and I hope it's clear that Spamton only has resentment over Jevil being a funny little guy, not because he was aspec)
Of course I also see Seam as aromantic and I think Seam and Jevil's relationship is incredibly aspec, what kind of relationship are they supposed to have? No idea, they don't care, they are companions. They bond over their aspec identities, there aren't that many aspec people around them and sometimes that's isolating and you feel misunderstood, but they understand each other really well!
Jevil makes fun of romantic gestures a lot, if he watches a movie with a boring romance B plot he is going to talk over the movie and make jokes about it, if he sees a couple when he is taking a walk he is going to be annoying and prank them. Sometimes aros need to be mean and not try to constantly justify ourselves and reassure everyone that 'we dont hate romance its just not for us we are not saying romance is bad-', jevil IS going to say romance is annoying and then bother you for it, he is the aro representation we all need

Transistor…? Deltarune
oh taupewolfy also asked me about Transistor lol. I'll post the final boss theme:
youtube
I love Impossible bcuz it's like. Okay it's too late for me to be articulate but it's weirdly like, upbeat for a final boss theme (especially the major key harp section in the middle) and I think that's really cool. Royce is having the fucking high of his life in this duel for control of the city and his life's work. It's also about the fantastical nature of what they're dueling for which, until now, has been presented fairly scientifically. Also the bass line is strong, as it should be because bass is Royce's theme instrument. I try to let the man have as few Turn()s as possible but I do kinda like it when he gets one so I can just hear the bass.
Umm, for Deltarune... let's stay on trend and post another boss theme.
youtube
This is also an absolutely incredible boss theme to one of the scariest RPG boss fights of all time IMO. It's a shame Spamton got so atrociously meme-y popular because I think this part where you face him in his upgraded boss form is like legitimately one of the fucking scariest things to come out of Deltarune and also tbh Undertale. Spamton is a worthy secret villain for Kris but he's an even better villain for YOU. Anyway every time I try this boss fight the kickass intensity of the boss theme always tricks me into thinking "this time. this time will be the one." And it literally never is because the fight itself is also hard as hell and I've yet to beat it u_u

💕 for Undertale & Deltarune? :3
Thankyou very much for asking!!
I'll be honest here I haven't gotten super into Undertale or Deltarune shipping. I have a lot I like sure but I didn't really go out of my way to find content for any of them like I do for other fandom ships?
That also means anything not mentioned I'm probably neutral towards tho, sense I don't have strong opinions on the one's I like anyway fdkgjdfk
Problematic ships under the cut
Undertale Ships
I really liked Toriel/Sans back in the day, and still reblog it from time to time. They're losers and I think that's funny. Step-Dunkle Sans for the win
In that same vein Asgore/Gaster is so very *chefs kiss* Devoted Royal Scientist X The Depressed Lonely King. My god. What dreams are made of
Because of those two I got really attached to Asriel/Papyrus, just to continue the Goat/Skeleton thing??? fdkgjkdf Mostly tho Post Pacifist Flowey or Souless Asriel. I think they're cute. "I think I'm the evilest thing to ever live" 11 year old mentality X "I think I'm the greatest thing to ever live" 12 year old mentality (Papyrus is a grown-ass man though I am not infantalizing him)
ACTUALLY though Papyrus/Frisk was my OG Papyrus ship, while everyone else was all about Frans and Papyton, I was on the Stupid Little Guys train. I ADORE them. Frisk didn't want their Gender so they gave it to Papyrus
Does liking Alphys/Undyne even need to be stated at this point? It's like the default of Undertale shipping. They're cute. Good for them.
Alphys/Madds/Undyne is INCREDIBLY cute though I hope she gets pulled into the Alphyne polycule so badly she is their little meow meow
There was like a week of my life where I got super hard obsessed with Asgore/Mettaton spesifically because of one artist who drew the thottiest Mettaton with a Biggest little guy Asgore I'd ever seen and I'm still on that. Mettaton deserves to be a Sugar Baby to the King of Monsters
Chara/Asriel is extremely cute they are best friends they are siblings they are partners they kiss and snuggle and one day they'll rule the underground together and Chara is convinced they don't deserve Asriel
I think Asgore/Chara would be a very cute ship but there's probably no content for it. I just think on it sometimes.
Frisk/Chara Queerplatonic body sharers post game is very good to me. I've also seen an AU where Frisk gives up their soul for Asriel to come back and they share a body and I think the three of them should vibe like that.
Frisk/Monster Kid is always appreciated in this house we love Monster Kid content in this house
On that note I love you artists who make the briefly mentioned Suzy an Undertale version of DR's Susie and have her hang out with Frisk. They are buddies and I love them so much.
Deltarune Ships
Kris/Berdly is the only one that actually hard matters to me I love them I love them so much they are gaymers. Especially love it with Transfemme Berdly for no other reason than I love her my baby girl
Kris/Spamton is!!!! So good!!! I love Spamton a little freak an old man who's really weird about this teenager he just met he makes them so uncomfortable I think it's hysterical
Kris/Ralsei while we're on the train is incredibly cute and another instance of a Darkner being very Unnormal about Kris in a way that makes them uncomfortable. Ralsei infantalizes Kris while also putting them on such a high pedestal. Good uncomfy Yandere content
Another probably doesn't need to be said but I think Susie/Noelle is pretty alright. My opinion on it is very same as Alphyne it's fine it's canon gays and it's cute. No complaints from me
Lancer/Susie/Noelle though?? Incredible. Top tier. Susie will go nowhere without her little guy Lancer, and Noelle thinks he's cute as can be and incredibly silly. Is he involved romantically? Unclear but he sure is there
Roulxs Kaard/Spade King was very juicy back when we only had chapter one. The last bit of porn I witnessed before Tumblr fully closed it's doors was some nasty shit of the two of them. RIP the OP of that work they got hard banned four separate times.
Roulxs/Queen has sense filled the Roulxs Kaard malewife shaped hole in my heart however and it is so much funnier than whatever he and Spade King had going on. Queen talks about him like how we all talk about Spamton and I think that's glorious
Queen/Swatch Queerplatonics my dearly beloveds
Are Sweep Cap'n Cakes a polycule? Someone said they were brothers and I cannot remember who or if it was canon. I like them as a polycule. They kiss on the mouth
I love you Jevil/Spamton divorce does it count as a ship if my favorite part of it is they're broken up?
Jevil/Seam is incredibly cute I love them soft I love them angsty I love them devoted and broken and wishing for the old days and I love them together and happy and silly old married couple
Spamton/Addisons any Addison or all Addison I love Spam/Addi ships a lot because it can't be sweet they left Spamton homeless and alone in the streets. The good ol days only kinda ship.

How do Artists and Writers Portray Escapism in Their Works?
Reality has always been an overwhelming experience, but over the past few years the amount of incredibly stressful events in the world have skyrocketed. The real world is insane. It's reasonable that we would come to rely on technology and stories as a brief respite. Whether it's Spending a few hours immersed in video games or getting lost in a book, almost everyone has indulged in escapism to some degree. Where things get interesting is when the media starts to form an opinion on us escaping into it.
Dana Terrence’s Disney Cartoon, "The Owl House", tells the story of Luz, a neurodivergent and queer teenager who finds herself in a magical realm of witches and demons. She was meant to go to a summer camp to help her become more “normal” but instead spends the summer on the Boiling Isles, also called the Demon Realm. Here she has no trouble making friends, something she has always struggled to do in the Human Realm. She is also free to  express herself when doing so previously had always led to bullying from her peers. But when the summer ends she is forced to acknowledge her real life and the impact her absence has made on reality. By the end of the series, Luz has found a way to balance her life in the Demon Realm with her life in the Human Realm.
Luz is a character who is very special to me and who I have a lot in common with. I would jump into that portal to the Demon Realm in an instant. Escapism is very appealing to kids who might feel alienated, especially in situations like school. The idea of being able to spend time in a world full of dragons, friends, and magic definitely sounds better than monotonous reality. For Luz, the Demon Realm is a chance to do what she wants with her life and be supported and understood while doing so.
"Deltarune" is a visual novel and RPG video game by Toby Fox. Similarly to Luz spending time in the Demon Realm, two of “Deltarune’s” protagonists, Kris and Susie, go on adventures in Dark Worlds. These Dark Worlds are filled with friends, puzzles, and magic. Both Susie and Kris are deeply neurodivergent coded and are both canonically queer. Susie also seems to have a very unstable home life. In the Dark Worlds these things are accepted or fade into the background. Each Dark World is designed around a common means of escape, like imagination or the internet.
There are a few concerning details in the game that condemn escapism, like two characters from the Dark Worlds. The first, Jevil, has seemingly lost the ability to tell the reality apart from games. He is completely disconnected from reality. The second, Spamton, is similar. He views the world as a game and does not view other people as “real”. Spamton has become lost in the endless void of the internet. He, like Jevil, has completely dissociated. These two characters may represent people who took escapism too far and lost touch.
Videogames are themselves a common means of escape, so "Deltarune’s” theme is very much informed by its medium. No matter how you choose to play the game, escapism is always present. One route of the game, the Weird Route, casts escapism in a very negative light. In this route, Kris uses the excuse of unreality to emotionally manipulate and abuse Noel, a character who otherwise becomes close friends with Kris and the rest of the party. In the other routes of the game, escapism is only condemned indirectly through vague dialogue and characters like Spamton and Jevil.
An RPG’s ability to tell different stories informed by hundreds of tiny choices that the player makes lends itself to portraying different degrees of escapism as a maladaptive coping mechanism. The player’s involvement in the story also makes any morels or themes present seem more personal. "Deltarune’s” theme of escapism is woven into every part of the game.
Another text with a strong theme of escapism is Neil Gaiman’s “Coraline”. In the book, Coraline, a young girl who is discontent with her life, finds a huge door in her parlor. It leads to a world not quite like her own. Everything is the same but slightly off. Everyone has buttons in the place of their eyes and uncanny valley features. At first, Coraline is willing to ignore this because the Other World is interesting and has delicious food and fun clothes. But the bloated rotten underbelly of the Other World quickly becomes apparent to Coraline. Inorder to stay in the Other World, she must stitch buttons into her eyes. By permanently stitching her eyes closed, Coraline is actively choosing to ignore everything disturbingly wrong with the Other World and accept its illusion of perfection.
This text’s examination of escapism is definitely darker than the previous two. Coraline’s attempts to escape her real life are clearly shown to be maladaptive. Coraline realizes immediately that something is off in the other world but basically keeps going back there out of boredom. At one point the Other Mother, The book’s antagonist,  says “Nothing’s changed. You’ll go home. You’ll be bored. You’ll be ignored. No one will listen to you, really listen to you. You’re too clever and too quiet for them to understand. They don’t even get your name right.” (Gaiman, 64). As the Other Mother becomes more controlling, people in Coraline’s real life begin to disappear. Her parents and eccentric neighbors slowly disappear from her already remote community and soon Coraline has completely isolated herself.
Being a novel, Coraline’s internal monologue is made clear to us. We can see her thought process and quickly become attached to her. Coraline is younger than the escapees of the previous two texts, but is maybe the most aware of what is happening to her. Her experience with the Other World is much like that of someone who has become dependent on escapism or disassociation and is trying to recover. Every time she thinks she has returned to reality she is dragged right back into the Other World.
The Other Mother is the root of Coraline’s peril. Similar to how you can't get rid of a coping mechanism like maladaptive escapism before you have fixed what you are escaping from, Coraline cannot escape the Other World until she has defeated the Other Mother.
“Coraline” casts escapism in a very negative light, but only in extreme contexts. Coraline loves make-believe and TV. She pretends to be an explorer. She makes up stories and has a very active imagination. These are all shown to be good things. It is only when Coraline tries to entirely escape from her reality that the text decides that her escapism has gone too far.
The article “Why Escapism Can be Harmful” discusses why escapism can be a dangerous coping mechanism, like it is in “Coraline”. Lyn Reed, the author of this article and licensed therapist, discusses how constantly avoiding our struggles through escapism stops us from actually improving our lives. She describes people who rely too heavily on social media as a form of escape as addicts. Relying on escapism can lead to things like dissociative disorder, a separation from yourself or from reality. “The ultimate goal of escapism is the destruction of self” she states (Why Escapism Can be Harmful, Reed).
This is an informational text based on a pervasive issue trying to offer support to those affected. Unlike the other texts chosen, it is not an artistic exploration of an issue, but a resource trying to help actual people who struggle with it. Because of this, it is a lot more critical of escapism as a coping mechanism, but it also offers support to those who use it. Reed suggests doing things like spending time face to face with friends to begin to overcome the need to escape from your life. She makes a clear distinction. “Not all escapism is bad for you. It is important to identify why you need to escape. If you are running away from reality then the consequences are not likely to be good. But if you are accessing another world in order to gain some insights to bring back to this one – well, that IS good.” (Why Escapism Can be Harmful, Reed).
This is a distinction that can be found throughout all of these texts. In “The Owl House”, Luz’s arc required her to switch the mindset of her escapes to the Boiling Isles from “running away from reality” to “gaining insights to bring back” (Why Escapism Can be Harmful, Reed). This was not an easy journey for her. Dana Terrence clearly understood this distinction and incorporated it into her show. The same goes for “Coraline”. Imagining that you are a famous explorer for a day is good, but running away to the Other World is not. Toby Fox makes a similar distinction in “Deltarune”. Having fun in a Dark World is ok, but be careful not to end up like Jevil or Spamton. It's ok to check out from reality for a while. Just remember that the real world will still be there for you when you're done, with all of its problems, insanity, overwhelming anxiety, and messy, painful, real, beauty.

Even if Spamton got the [HeartShapedObj], he would at that point be the Player's puppet. He still would not have gotten what he wanted.
But here's the thing: The Player also doesn't have the power he's seeking. The Player, as an object within the game, also isn't free.
They're bound by what is coded in the game. We see this whenever we're railroaded via plot/story from one area to another. There are times where our ability to choose is taken away (often by Susie, sometimes by Kris). Also, just by game design. Even if we hack the game to break through barriers, the world often just ends there-- further content wasn't coded into the game, so our ability to explore more is cut short.
Despite being an eldritch time god in comparison to a Lightener or Darkener, the Player isn't all-powerful either.
Only Toby (and his game dev crew) is.

What about lighteners are the Addisons most fascinated with? Do you think their human s/o stretches one day and their Addison spots their belly button and loses their mind?
A/N: I’m just imagining doing something Completely Normal and everyone goes batshit
Addisons fascinated by human lightener S/O
Pink Addison
They’d be the most surprised about your teeth and mouth
Meat isn’t a super huge food in the cyber world so most darkners don’t have any sharp teeth at all
The moment you make a toothy smile at them, they’re freaking out
Immediately asks you to open your mouth for a bit and is amazed at your canines
Asks all kinds of food related questions after that
What are the different teeth for, what do lightners tend to eat on the surface world, etc etc
Asks you to make the same foods that you usually ate back in the light world
Silently pouts when you tell him you can’t (or you just don’t want to)
Blue Addison
They’re the most surprised about the popping joints tbh
They didn’t know lightners could do that at all so the first time you cracked your neck around them, they just about thought you’d died
You have to take an hour to explain to them that you’re fine and that cracking joints (usually) don’t hurt
Doesn’t matter how many times you’ve done it around them, they always get scared
Even after you tell them that it’s okay, they still go and search it up just to make sure
Never asks you to stop because they still find it fascinating, if a bit worrying
Orange Addison
They’d be the most surprised at the flexibility of most people
And if you’re extra flexible? They’re in absolute awe
Asks you to do random things like put your knees up to your chest or ears
Tries to copy you when they’re alone because it’s so strange to watch
Unfortunately, most Addisons are incredibly stiff and can’t bend more than they need to
After he finds out how people can normally move like that, they discover the wonderful world of contortionists
They’re amazed and horrified
Yellow Addison
They love hearing about all the weird and gross things the human body can do
“When you get sick your body actively tries to kill the virus by nearly killing you??” “WHAT DO YOU MEAN STOMACH ACID IS STRONG ENOUGH TO MELT METAL??!”
Is gonna do so much research on all the weird facts about the human body, they’re eventually gonna know more than you do
Tells you anything they find in hopes of grossing you out (affectionately)
Tends to ask you why your body does certain things or what it’s for
Makes backhanded compliments a lot, i.e. “awww babe even if your weird internal organs are constantly moving around I still love you” you’re so tempted to hit him sometimes
Spamton
Fascinated at the different body parts themselves
Addisons don’t have many actual organs inside their body, let alone anything majorly organic
So when spammy learns that humans are just only full of fleshy bits and nothing cybernetic at all, he’s asking so many questions
Thinks the appendix is the weirdest part of the body
Even after you explain that we used to need it and just don’t need to anymore, he still things it’s weird
“You just have a [Time is ticking down! For a limited time only!] bomb in your body???? That you don’t use???”
Likes to just hold you, he thinks you’re soft and warm
If you let him just lay on you without moving he passes out every time

OKAY I ALREADY MADE A FEW POSTS ABOUT SHADOWCRYSTALS BUT I DIDN’T HAVE THE FULL INFO ABOUT WHAT THEY DID SO I’M GONNA DO IT AGAIN
So we know that ShadowCrystals, when used in the Dark World, reveal a brief flash of it’s Light World Counterpart
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(but interestingly enough, using it in Castle Town doesn’t reveal a supply closet)
Tumblr media
I’m guessing because Castle Town is based around the ‘Grand Fountain of Pure Darkness’ or something? Maybe it’s not a supply closet that turned into a Dark World, maybe it’s a Dark World disguised as a Supply Closet???
And from Swatch’s dialogue:
Tumblr media
from Seam’s dialogue...
Tumblr media
So we know the Shadow Crystal came from the NEO Body.
And it sounds to me like the fact the NEO Body was based on a drawing that was so emotionally important to Happstablook is directly related to the existance of the Shadow Crystal.
Most interestingly, Swatch mentions both ‘hope’ and ‘dream’ in relation to the NEO body. My first guess is that the Shadow Crystals’ name is misleading - they are actually the Dark World’s incarnation of concentrated Hope (Light). But they could be made of both Hopes and Dreams or something like that.
And from the mentions of the hopes and dreams giving the NEO body an “incredible power” and of Spamton stealing that power. Are Shadow Crystal bosses so strong BECAUSE they gain power from having a Shadow Crystal?
This is a theory an Anon sent me and after thinking about it I decided I really believe it: I think it’s very likely that Seam was the original owner of Jevil’s Shadow Crystal. Because that would explain why they know so much about them, their enigmatic ‘just a hunch’ comment, and like... from all the denizens of the Card Kingdom - a stuffed animal is a lot more likely to hold a great emotional significance for a Lightner than a single Joker card.
So far that thread makes sense to me, Shadow Crystals are concentrated Hope\Light and so they are invisible in the world of Dreams\Darkness and they can be used to see the Light version of each Dark World.
Buuuut the really interesting shit happen when you use a Shadow Crystal (or ‘Glass’) in the Light World
Tumblr media
(When Kris is alone)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(When Kris is with Susie)
So what the hell does THAT mean??? How does that fit in with how the Shadow Crystals work in the Dark World???
Can Shadow Crystals like... pierce through illusions\Darkness\Dreams and... Kris isn’t ‘real’ on some level? I guess they could still be the ‘Vessel’ we created at the start of the game.
Maybe “Your wonderful creation will now be discarded” doesn’t mean ‘yeah we’re putting this vessel in the bin and inserting you into some random kid’ but more like ‘we created your Vessel but just ignored your Choices”. Maybe it’s like “oh shit, the human baby we have engineered specifically to host your SOUL has escaped our bunker and have been taken in by a family of Monsters so they’re gonna have their own name and appearance and sense of identity. Whoops”
But.... would that work with the Susie thing? Because if the Shadow Crystal can see through illusions and it changes Susie’s expression, that would imply that Susie has something to hide???? About her friendship with Kris??? And honestly the idea that Susie might be sus-ie would be the most out-of-left-field twist Deltarune could ever have.
Or maybe... the Shadow Crystal shows Susie’s true expression in the sense that it shows what expression Susie would have if she knew the truth? Like, about the existence of the Player? And Susie is glaring coldly at us, not at Kris. (although maybe Kris is afraid that this vision was meant for them instead, that Susie wouldn’t like them if she finds out that so many of the things they’ve done since they became friends were actually done under the control of a Player. But that’s probably not true, I can just see Kris being afraid of that.)
Or maybe... what the Shadow Crystals do is just straight-up show a glimpse of the Future? Like, you can see the Unused Classroom and the Library Computer Room because it’s a glimpse of the future where the Fountains are sealed? And at some other point in the future of the story, Kris is gonna turn invisible\lose their hands? And Susie is gonna glare at them coldly (again, probably glaring at us, the Players, for controlling her friend)?
Or... Maybe, if the Shadow Crystals show Hope (the Light World) in the Dark World, maybe they show the opposite in the Light World... Fear. Considering Kris’ social isolation and their current possession-based identity crisis, I can see their top-two fears being “Susie hates me” and “I don’t really exist”.
Curiouser and curiouser...

NEO could be an abbreviation of something
NEO is a recurring word that is mentioned by several characters in undertale and deltarune
NEO seems to be associated with greater power as going by the dialogue of characters:
Mettaton claims that his neo body is his true form before the neo fight which of course turns out to be a fakeout since he goes down in one hit
Jevil says “The true and neo chaos” before he uses his powered up move
Queen wants Noelle to apparently create a “neo dark fountain” from how she considers Noelle to be rather strong
Spamton really wants the NEO body and does get more powerful when he’s now in it
Swatch did state how the neo body has incredible power from a lightener has filled it with their hope
The only other capitalized words that denotes power is LOVE and EXP which are short for Level of VIolence and Execution Points where one can get stronger the more one continues killing
Thus what would NEO be short for? Well here’s a possible idea: NEO could stand for Negative Emotion Overload where one becomes more powerful from sheer negative emotional turmoil
Mettaton’s neo body was meant to designed to kill however he failed because he wasn’t in negative emotional turmoil instead he was driven to protect his loved ones
The neo body likely has incredible power since it’s abandoned with negative emotions from the lightener when their hopes has been dashed
Spamton’s already in negative emotional turmoil so him in the neo body allows him to have great power to use
It’s possible half of the reason that Jevil’s powerful is because he’s full of negative emotions after what happened to him that lead to his current state
Noelle already has trauma from her sister disappearing in a tragic incident so she’s able to access NEO state from her emotional turmoil
And there’s how magic runs on tension points which is likely heightened emotions from the intensity in battle at the dark world
Thus it make sense for how she’s strong given how much emotional turmoil with trauma that she’s experiencing
Jevil smiling at Noelle in devilsknife could be how he recognizes her potential as another one who can access the NEO state

DELTARUNE - Heart and Soul AU
I promised earlier that I would share all the juicy details regarding the Deltarune AU my girlfriend ( @evils-corner ) and I made, so here it is!
The Heart and Soul AU - A Deltarune AU where no more bad things happen to Spamton. Strap in cause this post is gonna be a bit of a doozy.
-The majority of the story changes that occur in this AU happen after Kris, Susie, and Ralsei fight Spamton Neo. Everything else up until that point is the same.-
After activating and confronting Spamton Neo, Kris is deeply disturbed by the events of the battle. It pains them to see someone trying, and failing, to gain back their autonomy. It reminds them too much of their own situation...
When it seems like Spamton is going to give up on gaining back his freedom, and is instead going to turn into an item for the party, Kris somewhat panics. The implications of that do not sit right with them, especially when it comes to their own plight. So, in a sort of frenzy, they use their sword to cut Spamton down from the vines(?) that are wrapped around him.
Once cut down Kris tells Spamton about Castle Town and how they really think he should come back with them and live there. They want to try to help him in any way they can. They can't explain why they have such a strong urge to do this, but it seemed like their soul was gonna let them get away with it, so they weren't gonna squander the opportunity.
It takes a bit of time, but Spamton eventually agrees to come back and check out Castle Town. Kris told him that he'd have his own room and his own bed, and as much as he hated accepting "hand-outs" this seemed like a much better outcome than completely giving up his physical form.
So, Spamton joins the party (probably hanging out in Kris's pockets with Lancer for the time being) until the adventure is over and they return to Castle Town! Spamton is given his own room in the castle, and Kris visits him frequently to check up on him. A friendship/kinship between the two develops during this period of time.
One day, after brainstorming for a while, Kris develops a theory about how to potentially help Spamton regain his free will, but it wouldn't exactly be easy.
They remember how Spamton was pretty open about the fact that he wanted to take their soul during the battle with Neo. They know that their soul is INCREDIBLY powerful and they figure that there had to be a good reason why Neo wanted to kill them to get his hands on it.
Unfortunately, as much as they'd love to give up their soul for good, Kris can only live for a short time without it. They keep having to shove it back into their chest because they'll die if they spend too long without it occupying their body.
However, they know that there is a reasonable amount of time that their soul can exist outside of their body. So, one night, determined to see their plan out till the very end, Kris breaks into the school and enters the dark world. They had to come to Castle Town during the night so that their plan was unlikely to be interrupted by anything (or anyone). This was just between them and Spamton, no one else.
They climb up into Spamton's window and wake him up, telling him that they finally have an idea of how to help him, but he needed to trust them, no matter how strange the plan seemed. Spamton agrees and Kris tells him to look away before they rip their soul out of their body again.
When Spamton turns back around to look at Kris, they're holding their soul out to him, as if they want him to take it. They explain that they believe Spamton should be able to somehow harness the power of their soul to break free from whatever was corrupting him. He couldn't keep the soul for himself, of course, but Kris figured that since it was so powerful, it wouldn't take much contact with it in order to cause some kind of significant change.
Spamton is shocked at first, noting how much faith Kris must have in him to entrust him with their SOUL of all things. The gesture is not lost on him. He doesn't want to take it at first, but Kris insists, determined to help him, so he does.
While holding the human soul in his hands, Spamton is somehow able to "invoke" it, causing it's extreme power to rush all throughout his body. (Think of it like he's half "absorbing" the soul, similarly to how monsters can in Undertale.)
Kris watches intently as Spamton's eyes and body glow as it absorbs the healing energy from their soul. Even though Kris isn't exactly sure what is going on, it definitely seemed like what was happening was significant, so they're hopeful that their idea is going to work.
Spamton, meanwhile, is caught in a kind of trance. He feels too hot and too cold and had pins and needles crawling up and down his arms and legs, uncomfortable and sharp. There was a ringing in his ears. His mind felt fuzzy.
Everything felt so...unreal. And real. And it hurt. And he was in bliss. All these feelings jumbled together, coming on stronger with each pulse of Kris' soul in his hands.
After a bit of time, Kris is forced to take their soul away from Spamton and shove it back into their chest. They were starting to feel weak and knew they wouldn't be able to last without it for much longer.
Spamton is almost immediately snapped out of his trance the moment Kris' grabs their Soul. Both Kris and Spamton are physically spent after this entire experience, but Spamton is eager to know if anything had changed about his physical appearance. Had what he'd done with Kris' soul worked? Did he still look like a puppet? Was he back to normal?
Unfortunately, to Kris' dismay, nothing seems to have changed about him at all. He still looked and spoke exactly the same, seemingly still corrupted, seemingly still a puppet.
Kris is deeply disappointed in their wasted efforts. They thought for SURE this plan was going to work. Why hadn't it worked? They feel like they've somehow failed Spamton...and themselves.
Regardless, no matter how hurt Spamton is about the plan not working, he's deeply gracious that Kris was willing to do all of this just to try and help him. It had been a very long time since anyone had shown him this level of kindness and caring, and it made him emotional to think about how Kris wasn't willing to give up on him. The two part ways, the mood relatively low on both sides.
When Spamton wakes up the next morning, things immediately feel...different. Something about his body felt oddly...soft and loose, much different from the hard, wooden puppet "skin" he had been living with for who knows how long.
When Spamton goes to check himself in the mirror, he's shocked and elated to discover that he looked...normal again. No longer did he have any kind of puppet features, and his form finally resembled what he used to look like before he was corrupted.
Tumblr media
There were a few features of his new form that seemed to be "scars" left over from his corrupted body: streaks of grey in his white hair and a few garbled lines of spam text still being able to slip through his speech. Other than that, however, he was totally healed. Kris' plan, Kris' SOUL, had worked! He's overwhelmed with emotion, particularly about the fact that he could finally express himself freely again.
As a puppet, his face was stiff, and he couldn't do anything but smile; he couldn't even cry. It was torture, every moment. But now he was able to frown and sob and laugh and scowl...it felt like a dream.
Kris is just as excited to see Spamton healed as he is. Their plan had worked, and they had been able to help free Spamton after all. Their faith is renewed, and they feel good about themselves for the first time in YEARS. This must mean there was hope for them too.

Pretty sure I finally realized what Gaster is up to in Deltarune. Both of them. (Don't worry, I'll explain.)
You know how in Undertale, we're told that humans are special for their determination? For their ability to use it to change fate?
It's implied that the world of Deltarune existed prior to Undertale and was destroyed, only for Gaster to somehow bring it back under the guise of a survey program, which he then distributed to everyone.
It's my belief that Gaster's "survey" is to figure out just how powerful our determination is. To be specific, if our determination is powerful enough to change the fate of a doomed universe and create a new future for it, one where it isn't destroyed.
But... that's just ONE Gaster. The musical track "Another Him" implies that the Gaster we speak to once the game opens is another one. Not the Undertale version we're familiar with, but his Deltarune counterpart. The two games are alternate universes. If we can assume Undertale's Gaster is the one distributing the "survey program", what's Deltarune Gaster up to?
I read a YouTube comment that said something about Gaster's vessel experiments having to do with determinism, the definition of which is as follows:
determinism: noun - the doctrine that all events, including human action, are ultimately determined by causes external to the will. Some philosophers have taken determinism to imply that individual human beings have no free will and cannot be held morally responsible for their actions
We, the player, are an external force, and we control Kris, the game's protagonist. They have little free will under our control. They can't be held responsible for most of their actions.
Jevil was not being controlled by anyone, but was told he was in a game and therefore nothing he did truly mattered. Thus he began attacking everyone, presumably of his own free will. But when you're just a character in a video game, is your will truly yours, or just the will of your programmer?
Spamton was under some puppeteer's control, whether it was Gaster himself, or The Knight (assuming they and Gaster are not one and the same), or Mike. It's implied that Spamton became a success because someone was helping him make sales. They likely controlled his every move, like we do with Kris. And when Spamton started asking too many questions, his puppeteer stopped helping him, and his career came crashing down with it. Yet he still remains under someone's control, unable to reveal anything about The Knight to Kris without being punished. Spamton plots to break his strings by any means necessary. Even if it means manipulating someone else to do incredibly evil things. Can he truly be held responsible, however, when someone is controlling him and making his life a living hell?
Deltarune Gaster is likely looking for a specific kind of vessel, one that either proves determinism as a philosophy correct, or one that proves it wrong. To what end, however, I am uncertain.
So, to sum it up, UT!Gaster and DR!Gaster are working together, one researching Determination, the other researching Determinism. How Chara comes into all this, I really don't know. They clearly interfered with DR!Gaster giving us a Goner vessel, interfered with letting us have a choice. I feel that this Chara in particular is from Undertale's Genocide timeline, as they're particularly obsessed with not letting the player have control, AND they're powerful enough to destroy worlds and bring them back, the latter of which could explain how UT!Gaster revived Deltarune's world.
I dunno, I could be wrong about which Gaster is doing what, but this is a particularly strong hunch of mine I can't stay silent about.
