Sparrowtail! He is Kinkfur's son, Brother to Mistcloud and Dewkit. He and his siblings harrass Ivypaw in Night Whispers before the apprentice scares them with a hiss. He doesn't appear as an apprentice, but is a warrior in the Apprentice's Quest. He is Needletail's Father, with Berryheart though the cats don't acknowledge each other. He joins the Kin but dips early with Berryheart Cloverfoot and Slatefur according to Tigerheart's Shadow, but does appear in the battle at the boarder of Riverclan in Shattered Sky even though I would have said that group leaves before those events. He has another litter with Berryheart while away from the clans, Sunbeam Hollowflight and Spireclaw. He stands by his mate and they seem to be close in the Starless clan arc, following Berryheart through her entire fall from grace with Shadowclan and sticking with her when she teams up with Splashtail to attack their clan as Riverclan deputy. He mourns her when she is killed, and tells Tigerstar that Berryheart was the only cat who he was more loyal to than his clan and without her he need not question Sparrowtail's commitment to the clan. He is mostly used as support for conservative ideas despite not being that old, but not as strongly as characters like Scorchfur, Spikefur or Berryheart. He supports his daughter and hopes that she lives happily in Thunderclan.

He's got a lot of continuity stuff going on, as he says he was apprentices with Berryheart at her funeral despite Berry being born an entire arc before him, but both litters were never listed as apprentices before being fully formed adults in the Vision of Shadows arc so I think it's possible. Snowbird is listed in the Nursury in Bramblestar's Storm's Allegiances so for Needletail to be the same age as Beenose and Yarrowleaf Berryheart and Sparrowtail would need to be warriors and mates before that book to make it work. In my mind he was probably apprenticed shortly after Night Whispers and Warrior by the Last Hope, but the truth is this was all probably retroactively sewn together and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

You know what I'm mad about? The difference between bad fathers and bad mothers in warriors.

Bad fathers are typically fathers who just aren't there or are disinterested. Crowfeather, Spiderleg, Tigerstar, etc. Bad dad doesn't mean absent dad, because it's basically an expectation that a father in warriors doesn't need to be there. Dewnose, Sparrowtail, Almost every first arc tom... so much so that Toms who do the bare minimum are celebrated, such as Graystripe or Fernsong. Yet these dads aren't hated on as much as mothers are.

A bad mom in warriors is either abusive, or perceived as evil. Rainflower, Curlfeather, Berryheart, etc. If a mother is absent, it's noticed, like Sparkpelt or Lizardstripe. Mothers in warriors aren't allowed to take a step back from being mothers, so much so that it becomes most of their characters. Almost every evil she-cat we see, the first thought is "Oh, Berryheart, Sunbeams mom." Or "Oh, Mapleshade, a Mom."

Let us have bad moms who are still redeemable characters. Crowfeather is a bad dad, but he's still rewarded by the narrative and loved in the Fandom. .

Original plan for A Starless Clan ending:

Berryheart votes Tigerstar out.

Tigerheart says that he is done. He had been met with hatred and judgement at every turn, and that nothing he does is the right thing. He is leaving.

Tigerheart, Dovewing, Lightleap, Shadowsight, Pouncestep and Rowankit leave Shadowclan and head to The Guardians.

While Tiger, Dove, Shadow, and Rowan are okay with being Guardians, Lightleap grows restless, as well as Pouncestep.

The two leave, and begin a resistance in Shadowclan, held with Grassheart, Gullswoop, Flowerstem, Cinnamontail, and Crowfrost.

Cloverfoot is poisoned by Berryheart, who took the leadership position for herself. The new deputy is Sparrowtail.

Lightleap and Pouncestep integrate themselves back into Shadowclan, Lightleap doing her best to get closer and closer with Berrystar. She gets to see her as a person at her lowest points, hear about her dreams and hopes for other cats. Berrystar considers Lightleap to be her best friend, despite the age difference, she is the only one Berrystar can trust. Like a daughter to her, more of a daughter than Sunbeam...

Lightleap lets her in too, in a way, sharing her own fears. How scary the Dark Forest was, how much she misses her family, her failed relationship with Blazefire, even the silly things like how she hates spicy food and likes Magpie feathers in her nest.

Sparrowtail is killed by Pouncestep and Grassheart. It looks like an accident. What a shame that the branch in that tree happened to land where he was.

Berrystar is at her lowest point. Her mate is gone. Her daughter is gone. Hollowspring has been killed too, a sneak attack from Lightleap herself Lightleap blames Thunderclan's new deputy Lilyheart. It's too much for Berrystar, her mind unravleing under the pressure of leadership and tragedy of her family. Screw the code and screw Starclan's opinion, she thinks, I'm making the only cat left that I trust my new deputy, she'll get an apprentice when the next kit is made into one. Pouncestep, in her quietness, was given Whisperpaw. Berrystar is a horrible le person but she gets that a quiet kit could often use a quiet mentor.

Lightleap is made Deputy.

War has been raging between Shadowclan and the other Clans, Berrystar's lives have been whittling down. A throat wound here, an infection there, she has to be running low by now...

Lightleap arranges a plan with Sunbeam, who's been staying in Thunderclan to get away from her mother...

A raid lead by Hollyleaf and Sunbeam begins, in the heart of Shadowclan's camp. Confusion and panic fill the air, no one is paying attention to the rotting leader's den.

In the chaos, Lightleap, faithful deputy born of Berrystar's enemy, the only cat Berrystar will speak to, the cat Berrystar sees as her own daughter, corners the paranoid, snappy, hateful leader in her own den...

"Remember me all the way to the Dark Forest, Berrystar."

"Lightleap, what is this? I'm the leader of Shadowclan, or have you forgotten?"

"Not for much longer. I'm going to kill you, and then kill you again. As many times as it takes to send you to the Dark Forest, forever. I am taking back my home!"

Berrystar was reported have to have been killed in the chaos by a Thunderclan warrior. Theories launch about who did, but the culprit is never found. Pouncestep is made deputy.

Lightstar puts an end to the war.

I enjoy playing with family resemblance a lot, and wanted to get Sunbeam's family fully done because I kinda like the SnowScorch kin a lot

from left to right, top to bottom we have

Buster, Cloverfoot, Berryheart, Conefoot, Gullswoop

Sparrowtail, Sunbeam, Bluebellkit, Yarrowleaf

Spireclaw, Hollowspring, Needletail, Hopwhisker, Flaxfoot

under the cut I'll go a bit more in leght about these traits the family shares because I have thoughts lmao

first of all. to simplify my life and because it makes designing these cats a bit easier I decided that Scorchfur wouldn't be the father of Snow's first litter. All three of these cats are massive and fluffy in my head and while Snow is fluffy, she and Scorch aren't really shaped like I want these three to be, so their father is another unknown cat, who did give the three cats their gray/black colors (because they are NOT coming from Scorchfur <3)

I made Snowbird herself a caliby mostly to explain how she has all these gray/brown cats and then Yarrowleaf. I technically could've just said she was these colors underneath the white, but I did want it to show just a bit to not forget the colors. The browns appear again with Hopwhisker and Flaxfoot. All of her kids and grandkids inherited her white though, that's the one color they all share at least a little (aside from Hollowspring who Does His Own Thing)

Buster is a spikier version of Snowbird. he's got about the same fluff as her, but more unkempt. He's obviously also got a pine-shaped at as a kittypet because obviously he's gotta have one.

Cloverfoot (my beloved) probably looks a lot like that secret father they have, though her neck fluff is an extended version of Snowbird's wings. in general she's bulkier and rounder than Snow, thought not as round as

Berryheart. I have a very clear image of her in particular in my head. the round shapes, the tuxedo, the black spot on her muzzle, she's got it all and she's ready to cause trouble.

Sunbeam has the same build as Berryheart, but a little less drastic; most of Sunbeam's white are a less drastic version of Berryheart's too. She got her brown colors and tabby pattern from her father Sparrowtail though. I did also decide to give Sunbeam a little beard while giving Spireclaw some lashes (that you sadly can't see well) to toy a bit with gender

Spireclaw and Hollowspring both got their black from Berryheart, Spire also got the Snowbird White and his matches Berryheart's more, but not entirely.

Making Needletail match her family was honestly the harder part because she's got a pretty famous description that makes her quite different from the rest of the Snowkin, but thanks to Sparrow I managed to scrounge enough spiky-ness (alongside Snowbird's cheek fluff) to keep her appearance. she's also got the same gray as Cloverfoot's lightest gray.

now off to the real snowscorch kids: Beenose, Bluebellkit, Conefoot and Gullswoop are all mainly white like their mother, but with some variety. Bee's got a black that I got from Scorchfur's lineart color, and a smaller version of Snowbird's fluffs, Gullswoop got the tiniest amount of Snowbird's brown and her fluff spikes up. Conefoot is mainly white, but he took Scorchfur's lighter gray to make him more varied. his paw fluffs are currently unique to him, though I could easily make Shinepaw get them too. Bluebellkit then is genuinely just pure white and a rounder version of Snowbird.

Frondwhisker and Yarrowleaf are the last two kits and the two SnowScorch that have little white on them. Frond is just a tabby version of Scorch, based on the definitely there tabby stripes Snowbird has hidden under her white and Yarrowleaf took Snow's stripes too, but also her orange. She's also just a thinner version of Snowbird shape-wise.

Hopwhisker and Flaxfoot do technically have a father (Nettle), but I barely know him and I wanted them to be Snowkin too, so all their colors can be traced back to SnowScorch <3. Hopwhisker got some exaggerated fluff and her tail can be explained by Nettle, but her colors are genuinely just a more obvious calico with the same colors as Snow and Scorchfur's eyes. Flaxfoot has Snow's two browns, but also a darker one for his stripes that is a browner version of Scorchfur. His eyecolor is also not Snowkin, but his fluff sure is.

It's probably significant that the only named characters at Berryheart's vigil were members of her immediate family. There probably weren't many other cats interested in sitting vigil for Berryheart.

As an aside it's probably also significant that the first cat in ShadowClan Berryheart tried explaining her plan to was, again, a member of her immediate family.
