I find it interesting that Lahabrea associates himself with other failure dads (Gaius, Thancred, Thordan VII, arguably Emet-Selch...)

31, 10, 22 for the ffxiv gods ask :)
alsooo as a bonus: do you have a main class and is it the same class you envision your wol to be as a character (e.g. you like playing one class in raids but you see your character as the master of another art when thinking of their lore)?
SOMEHOW THIS GOT LONG SO ITS UNDER A CUT THANK YOU FOR THE ASK
(It didn't add the cut my life is over sorry for the long post everyone)
CG: Hello hello, today we are here with the (almost) full party to answer some questions posed by a lovely friend. First off, how connected do you feel to nature?
Yuki🌸: when I first came to Eorzea it was fascinating to learn about the art of conjury from E-Sumi-Yan. The way they commune with nature and the elementals reminded me of how we speak with the kami, and it helped me to grow my healing art in ways I wouldn't have been able to if I had stayed in the Ruby Sea
Twi🐰: I may be from the forest, but I was never much of a treespeaker
Negi🍚: when you gather your ingredients from nature, you can't help but feel connected to it right? I may not speak to the elementals, but if you wander the woods long enough you pick up a thing or two
Popoto🥔: yes yes, and collecting the seeds to grow and nurture at home is another great way to be nature-y. It always feels so nice when something you've grown from a little seedling starts putting out flowers and fruit :)
CG: Great, thank you everyone. Next, do you believe in fate?
Kai🐱: it's a little hard not to, when the Spinner decides to have her way with you. Still though, it's not like we are incapable of making decisions for ourselves
Punch👊🏽: yeah, fate isn't really something I think of as a hard line or anything. I'll do my deeds and walk my path, and I'll get weighed at the end same as everyone else
Popoto🥔: I think so too, but isn't it nice to sometimes think that things were meant to be? Meeting a new friend, choosing one road over another, maybe these sort of things aren't random but little nudges from the goddess
CG: wao, so it's as deep or not as you want it to be, huh? Alright, next, at the peak of your fury do you tend to be destructive? If so, how?
Kai🐱: haha, this one is for those three
Punch👊🏽: don't mistake me, I may get destructive but not because I'm mad. I'm Ul'dahn; there are much more satisfying ways to deal with anger
Twi🐰: destruction doesn't have to be satisfying, sometimes it just seems the only appropriate way to respond. When someone has wronged you, when injustice happens and there's nothing else you can do, it can feel like the only way to get through it in the moment is to rage
Crystal🦎: one doesn't need to be furious to destroy? Destruction is as natural as creation. It is part of the cycle
Kai🐱: we haven't had any major incidents for quite a while. Adventuring and long hunting trips are good ways to keep property damage as low as possible
CG: some very interesting perspectives here. Last, our bonus question: do you have a main job, and is it different than the one you consider your true job?
Yuki🌸: healing was ever my calling, so white mage will always be closest to my heart. I cannot deny, though, that becoming a dark knight has helped me greatly with regards to certain other aspects of my life
Kai🐱: like romance, right?
Yuki🌸: [does not respond]
Punch👊🏽: I picked up the axe from some Lominsan lads we had employed for a while. It's a great way to defend yourself on the road, and I've never met an axemaster I haven't liked (eventually). Still, when it comes down to it, you can't go wrong with your own two fists
Twi🐰: in the forest, the spear was just part of life; its the tool and weapon I grew up with. But seeing the way Lyna wielded her chakrams was, um, inspiring. Learning the art during my time on the First is an experience I'll never forget
Negi🍚: similar to Twi, I grew up with the bow. Hunting game is a natural way of life in the mountains, and meeting Jehantel just seems like it was fated (haha). I cannot deny, though, that axes and knives are essential tools to know when gathering and cooking
Crystal🦎: bows and magic may be useful on the steppe, but the axe is the only weapon I require.
Popoto🥔: I may not have learned from everyone like Kai
Kai🐱: you just pick things up when you wander around
Popoto🥔: but I know enough to be able to fill any role I need to at the time. Though at the moment I've been learning about the sage's art while we're in Sharlayan, and it's been pretty fun :)
Kai🐱: I wouldn't say I know everything [a couple of the others scoff] but when you've inherited a legacy of millennia, it's not difficult to learn new things. However I am, and ever remain, a summoner.
CG: sounds like everyone has different things they like to do, huh? But that's what works best for a party! That's all for now, thank you everyone for coming~ We'll see you next time in the tumblr ask box!

2 and 20 on the Thematic Asks for Nahte?
Thanks for the ask! :D
2. Drawing from the language of flowers, what flower would symbolize them?
Tumblr media
Woodland Sage! A plant widely used in healing arts, which grows wild as Nahte did out in the Shroud. It represents compassion, thoughtfulness, wisdom, and, of course, healing. It's likely he carries some of this with him at all times on the road, in case someone gets hurt and needs a poultice.
Another honorable mention would be the fictional Nymeia Lilly, beloved of the Spinner, his patron goddess. (Nahte doesn't really think of her that way, but I like the symbolism of it) He always has one in his inventory in-game. If he has extra, I'll sometimes give them out to bards playing music in the city-states.
20. What word/phrase is central to their character? (It can be something they say or something that summarizes them meta-textually.)
I feel like you could quote... most of the Dark Knight questline and it would suit Nahte very well. But (even though I wish the English translation had stuck closer to the Japanese one for the lvl 80 Dark Knight finale) I would say this line summarizes him the best:
Now comes your part, To cloak yourself in the fiction, To breathe life into the dead, To give a voice to the voiceless...
In all his incarnations, even before I stuck him into FFXIV, Nahte has traditionally struggled with making his needs known, and tends to mask himself as an indomitable hero - someone people can rally around, have faith in, to give them hope. He is a vessel for the people and their needs, at his own expense.
Very few ever get to see the real man beneath that shining glaze of Warrior of Light. Until it cracks. And the Dark Knight questline is so, so good for Nahte because of the emphasis Fray puts on taking care of himself, too. Loving himself. He matters, too.
So while some of the quote is quite literal, like cloaking himself in the fiction, other parts have dual meaning. Breathing life into the dead, giving a voice to the voiceless - it's not just about defending the weak and carrying the legacy of those who came before, it's also about Nahte learning to speak for himself, resurrecting his own wants and dreams.
This quote is even featured in his Carrd Profile! :3

FFXIV Write Prompt #6: Avatar
So many good possibilities for this prompt, this is just the one of three that I want to work on! Thanks to @krahka for letting me borrow some headcanon; ‘The Reverend’ is their Kleskizhae.
“What have you got?”
Strix looked up from a thick stack of pages in a crudely stitched pasteboard binding. “I’m editing a galley proof for a colleague before it goes to print.”
Raubahn craned his head in over her shoulder to view the text, and she leaned down to cover it like a mantling hawk.
“Trade secret, hmm?”
“When it’s fit to be seen, you’ll be the first to know. We can read it together, if you like.” The general went to war with a mountain of intelligence briefs, personnel files, and sundry memoranda when he wasn’t swinging a sword, and rarely had time or inclination for recreational reading. Instead, Strix read aloud to him to pass the hours during overland travel or in the hazy, lamp-lit few minutes between taking to their cot and being claimed by sleep.
He indicated assent with a low rumble and a warm, stubbly kiss pressed to the curve of her neck.
Reverend Biggus Dickus, High Priest of Menphina and alleged author of the Vitae Duodecimum, had birthed a monster. Apart from a pen-name that was impossible to pronounce without snorting, he handled the very few agreed-upon facts in the diversity of lore on Eorzea’s patrons with the subtlety of a 20-ponze sledge and the reverence of a small child at play with a tin of dry beans. The text had vital, rhythmic, (detractors would say ‘pornographic’) drive, and was stunning to declaim aloud, either from the lyrical beauty of the prose itself or from the likelihood that the reciter would face a hail of improvised missiles in return for a recitation.
The gods’ attributes, their deeds, and their relationships to each other were reshuffled, seemingly at the author’s whim. Their manifestations often appeared in recognizable shape. Some few proponents insisted that the Vitae was a secretly brilliant work of social satire that Eorzeans would come to appreciate with the benefit of time and distance. Others were rather less sanguine. A prior volume had grievously offended Admiral Bloefhyswyn when she and her unerring aim with a musket were “cast” as a caricature of the Spinner of Fate, rather than the Lominsan patroness Llymlaen. In consequence, the latest manuscript had achieved the enviable feat of receiving an embargo before it was even set to print. Strix had taken on the job of suggesting corrections that would not fundamentally change the narrative, but give it a fighting chance to see publication.
Strix was fond of the work in spite of the editorial headache. The sheer surreality of the plot was a welcome change from her own pile of clerical obligations and the bloodless, formulaic declarations of civic piety that dominated official discourse. Most of all, and largely the reason that she saved this work until the dead of night when no one was likely to see her blushing while she wielded her pen, she loved that, in place of the hoary, forbidding longbeard magus, Dickus’s Rhalgr was a battle-scarred swordsman, capable of ferocity when called upon but equally given to gentleness and deliberation. And, while this particular telling preserved his traditional fealty to Nymeia (and managed to skirt some of the less-savory Ala-Mhigan-historical implications of that relationship), this Rhalgr was utterly besotted with a small, sharp Azeyma.

FFXIV: SHADOWBRINGERS - “Coming Clean” Instance Dialogue
Because I didn't actually notice this until I went back and watched my play-through, I figured I would type out the quotes and dialogue during the “Coming Clean” instance, where you fight as Thancred against Ran’jit. It’s got some cool interactions and lines, which only makes me sad that they weren’t all voice acted. Below the cut because it’s a lot.
Start of instance
Thancred engages Ran’jit.
Thancred: Whatever it takes, I swear I will end you.
Ran’jit: Hmph. You lie to yourself as you lied to her.
Thancred: Aye. I lied. Kept secrets. But no more. She deserves better.
Ran’jit: A life of pain? Of ceaseless conflict and despair?
Thancred fights Ran’jit for a period of time.
Thancred: This is going well...
Ran’jit: Vanity...
Thancred is knocked down and Ran’jit calls on Gukumatz, his red serpent dragon.
Ran’jit: Beast of my blood, answer my call!
Ran’jit and Gukumatz fuse, giving Ran’jit red-scaled armor and a scythe.
Ran’jit: Rend my foes and ward their blows.
Thancred and Ran’jit re-engage in combat.
Thancred: Hah, so you really are a monster.
Ran’jit: Better a monster than a deceiver. A spinner of foolish dreams and false hopes.
Thancred: There is no folly in hope!
Ran’jit: ...I said as much myself, once. I was wrong. Never again.
Thancred (to himself): Dammit! I need time to line up a clean shot.
Thancred (to himself): I suppose if there’s no other way...
Ran’jit: When will you learn?
Thancred: When you’re dead and buried!
Ran’jit: Yield now and I will grant you a quick death.
Ran’jit idles in the center of the arena and Thancred is targeted by four dragon heads.
Thancred: But we’ve only just begun.
Thancred utilizes Perfect Deception, severely restricting the flow of his life-sustaining aether. He is fading fast. However, Ran’jit can no longer see him.
Ran’jit: What is this foolishness?
Thancred (to himself): Not good...
Thancred stands.
Thancred (to himself): The strain is more than I remember... At least now I can get that shot.
Ran’jit: I tire of these games...
Thancred approaches Ran’jit and uses one of Minfilia’s cartridges to execute Shining Blade. Ran’jit is open to attack.
Ran’jit: You would court death for mere parlor tricks?
Ran’jit stands and throws Thancred back.
Thancred: <pant> <pant> ...My life would be but a small price to pay.
Ran’jit: Then pay it you shall!
Thancred and Ran’jit continue to fight.
Thancred: You never understood her.
Thancred: She is not a bird to be locked away in a gilded cage.
Ran’jit: And you presume to be her protector. Pathetic!
Ran’jit idles once again and the four dragon heads appear.
Thancred: Looks like I’ll have to use it again, then.
Thancred utilizes Perfect Deception again and falters. Ran’jit loses sight of Thancred.
Ran’jit: Again with these tricks!?
Thancred: Urgh... Hold still, damn you!
Thancred uses another of Minfilia’s cartridges and executes Shining Blade. Ran’jit is open to attack.
Ran’jit: You have played your hand far too early, boy.
Ran’jit knocks back Thancred and they fight for some time.
Thancred: This has carried on long enough, wouldn’t you agree?
Ran’jit: Why do you persist in this folly?
Ran’jit summons the four dragon heads again.
Thancred: Is that all?
Thancred uses Perfect Deception again. He is physically drained.
Thancred: Minfilia’s last cartridge... Have to... <pant> <pant> ...make it count...
Ran’jit: There you are!
Ran’jit lands a blow on Thancred and summons the dragon heads again.
Thancred: Gah! But how!?
Thancred uses Perfect Deception again.
Ran’jit: Fools to a man!
Ran’jit lands another blow on Thancred.
Thancred: I’d hoped you would fall for it a third time...
Thancred falters.
Thancred: Urgh... Though two times was... <pant> <pant> ...perhaps already too many...
Ran’jit: No more tricks? Then let us finish this.
Thancred is gradually losing energy. He endures Ran’jit’s onslaught.
Thancred: But you’ve not even seen the grand finale.
Thancred: One... last... disappearing act...
Ran’jit: Were you not struggling to stand I might think you serious.
Ran’jit summons the dragon heads.
Thancred: Oh, I am deadly serious.
Thancred executes Souldeep Invisibility, severing his life-sustaining aether completely. He vanishes from view.
Ran’jit: Fool! You think the shadows will save you?
Ran’jit strikes Thancred unknowingly.
Ran’jit: There is no escape! Do you hear me!?
Thancred approaches Ran’jit as the man continues to slash at the air.
Thancred: Thank you, Minfilia... for this precious gift...
Thancred executes Leap of Faith, harnessing the mysterious power of Minfilia’s experimental cartridge to deliver a powerful onslaught to Ran’jit.
Thancred: To hell with you!!
Ran’jit collapses.

Bargain (Prompt: 02)
[This is written in the voice of @mottledscales, but hosted here as this is my main FFXIV blog. It will be reblogged at a later time.]
@sea-wolf-coast-to-coast
The gil trapped between his forefinger and the table steadied, stilled out of its cyclical spinning. The letters stamped into its face were clear, as was the symbol of the Spinner, though it was the former he focused on. Six years ago, he wasn’t able to read the script of Eorzea. One-hundred, ten letters, seven variants.
He wasn’t able to read the bottles stashed up on the shelves, their labels new or faded, it didn’t matter. O’Ghomorran Mead, thrice-distilled Mun-tuy brew, Daniffen’s Joy, all were nonsense, known only by smell. In Ul’dah it had all been the same: sickly sweet or nigh-medicinally harsh. The soft touch of plum was naught but a dream until they’d come to Limsa Lominsa.
A sheaf of vellum sat on his desk, awaiting delivery and correction. He could imagine the old Doman tucking them between his yet-remaining fingers, brow knit, wrinkled scowling from his nose to his scales. All in exchange for spirits and stories. This one about bells, that one about a girl of red flowers; warrior epics, cautionary tales, faerie stories...never told the same way twice.
Asato had enjoyed them, too. Doman script, some four-dozen stitches, bowl after bowl of soup and stew and kindness and care: and his tales the only price. He caught the coin between his fingers after sending it whirling across the tabletop once more, though his eyes were trained on the flower blooming on his wrist. Not simply stories to tell, but stories to make. New ones.
New stories penned together, of winters when food was scarce and the sickly were many. Stories about the snow of the valley -so different from that of the mountains- as it crunched underfoot while he sought slumbering herbs for more medicine. How the marshlands had, again and again, turned dangerous, lakes and inlets frozen over in some places and too thin for crossing in others. They told stories about spring when flowers would blossom and he’d collect river weeds for weaving into baskets laden with colour. Children from the town would follow him, wandering through his stride and adding more and more to the pile. They’d go door-to-door in town with wreaths for the youngest girls and oldest of women, a tradition he brought from the mountains. Their neighbors found it quaint and charming, Asato said. That such a beastly man of the Steppe observed something so frivolous and feminine. Foolish, he replied, for all things come of the earth, and go to the sky.  He’d stray from their home for days, draw water for the rice paddies to the south where the hills were steep, and come home with arms full of leeks, nettles, and turnips. The farmers were eager for his stories and he, in turn, heard theirs: the rabbit that made mochi on the moon, the dragon that lived in the lake, the sky princess who lived in a palace of bamboo.
Asato guided his hand to write the struggles, the triumphs, the sun and the moon, gold and silver, flame and water...and other such worn-out symbolism that he thought were clever at the time. Doman script across loosened scrolls, accented with Xaelic pictures and patterns. None bore their names, just the inked line of a slender bird with a flower in its long beak.
They thought themselves brilliant, clichés be damned, and when men of iron came and set everything to the torch, the library in his heart remained.
Chagatai lifted his gaze from the table, captured from his thoughts by the muffled sound of tinkling bells and a wash of vibrant blue in his periphery. By anyone else’s reckoning -and frankly, his own- he had no business playing the tall and looming shadow over the creature that waited at the top of the stairs. His, after all, was no currency such as gil, no copious coin to beg a pretty thing’s time.
Just words, just stories. A queer commodity.

Emotional and passionate when roused to a cause, defiant and bold, yet reckless with herself, seemingly all the more willing to put herself in harms way for just about anyone. There's a naivety about her, that borders on 'stupid', one might say. She sees the best in people, even when there isn't, believing most anyone is capable of good if they were simply to try. She's kind and she's sweet, and she'd do anything for anyone if they merely asked, no questions asked, to a certain extent. Laurla wants to make the best of her life, make other's lives the best they can be, but underneath those ideals, the truth is she's fearful and almost cares very little about her own well being to a very unhealthy degree, while also being selfish and wanting more for her life, not especially believing she deserves it, but because she craves for something to live for. She's a walking contradiction, that just shows she has no clue what she wants in life, and grasping at straws. Still, she laughs easier, smiles more and feels a bit more at peace than she had prior. While in the empire, she had been, while not drastically different, a shadow of the her she is today. Laurla was more careful, not with her physical self but with her mental, trying hard to last in the war front despite the odds. She was fearful then as she is now, making friends, or attempting to, just for them to end of dead or missing within months or even weeks. She was still emotional, finding herself crying more then than she does now, but in secret. She struggled to maintain an image of strength for those around her, while slowly falling a part herself one piece at a time.

Final fantasy XIV Dad of light Episode One
So Dad of light is finally on international Netflix. I decided to review this episode by episode. Warning spoilers Lets talk the main two characters. Akio and his father. From the first two minuets we get that Akio is an only child who during the holidays is bored playing alone in his house. I get the feeling Akio is socially awkward with trouble connecting to others. Though nothing has been explored that the only way I can explain why this child during the school holidays is on his own playing fidget spinner. This is where Akio’s father finds him and decides to buy his son a video game. Which both Akio and his mother say was a first time as when ever Akio asked before his father refused. They buy him a copy of Final fantasy (or Final Fantasia to Akio’s father) and the son instantly loves it. Curious to his sons enjoyment in the dead of the night his father plays the game and also enjoys it. he caught by Akio and the two bond closely over the game and being warriors of light.
This touched me deeply as I remember spending time watching my dad play computer games when I was younger. Though less child friendly I will always remember pulling up a chair and sitting quietly next to my dad playing Doom or Duke Nukem and just enjoying being in his presence. Ever since the divorce I kind of wish I could go back to something similar. Unfortunately my dad show no interest in games much anymore and defiantly wouldn’t put time into something like FFXIV.
We now skip forward several years to where Akio is now a Miquote in FFXIV and playing a monk in a realm reborn. This is where I have a slight issue. The game is centred around a Realm reborn. Content that is now a few years to old. We have since had Heavensward where the introduction of a new race and three new classes has come into play. And just recently Stormblood has launched. I can understand now doing stormblood blood as with the in game shot scenes (done by a team of people playing the game only and not animated) I could understand not going into Stormblood but at the same time it feels awkward when Twintania is stated as the hardest boss....so this is Early patch 2.01 with the first set of binding coil. It does feel dated. And if they get what i presume is  desired effect of this series which is to get a wave of fresh players. Alot of them may jump potion to get into the updated content and twintania can be cleared by just 3 or 4 players now. And I remember trying to kill twintania back when she was the hardest content. Its a minor annoyance that i can understand that the production may of taken longer hence why its only out now. But as someone who currently plays the game it does confuse a bit. Though I guess binding coil was always better then Alexander (burn) Though they should of made it Bahamet.  Minor Rant aside back to the story, Akio and his farther now have a very distant relationship. which Akio explains later to his guild of friends that he believes it was due to his father getting a promotion and being to busy with work to connect with his family. This is something I hope get addressed in later episodes as it is a growing issue in Japan. And as I mentioned in my rant there are some lovely scenes shot in game from the perspective of Akio’s Character Maidy. The scenes look to be shot by the ‘actors’ Avatars doing in game actions while the camera person records through first person. They could of easily just recorded these like a cut scene but I love how it feels like just another set and more natural to be watching this as a game. The movements are slightly more jiggered compared to the crisp clean model movements of  FFXIV’s cut scenes and yes i did a side by side comparison to check this. We see that Akio is saddened by the distant between him and his father. During his work day he gets the call from his mother that his father suddenly quit from his work with no prior warning.  And again the episode hits me with nostalgia. Back when I was at this point in ARR I was in a small guild called Healing Serenity. We were very close and would often spend time just sat in our little house on the beach front and chatting. Be it if one of us was stressed from work or even more serious events we were always there for each other. During this time something terrible happened to me. I was off sick from work for a while and almost completely shut in and unable to go outside. I pretty much lived in the game and My guild was there for me. They got me through a terrible time. And watching Akio turn to people who he trusts so much to talk about something so personal is touching. It’s in this scene his in game friends try and help him find a way to reconnect with his father seeing that the distance is hurting there friend alot. And the plan is suggested to invite him to the game and reconnect. (also note the fantastic scene switch from in game and to real Akio where both are in the same pose)  Akio after much thinking buys his father a ps4 and a copy of the game as a retirement present. A slight nod to his mother seeing it as a retirement and not her husband just quitting his job. The use of the FFXIV soundtrack is pretty beautiful including the part when Akio’s father calls it Final fantasia and AKio corrects him just as he did when he was little. The touching moment is accompanied by the light backing track that is use in game in some home cities giving a soft feeling of being home. Akio sits with his father through character creation. And there quite a funny moment when it comes to naming his character. Akio sets his father into the world of Ezora and then sets off to his plan.  Recruiting his guild he pretty much sets up to catfish his father. Reconnecting with him in the game to learn who is father is again beat the final boss and reveal who he is. His guild agree to help and work together to become some sort of guardian angels to Akio’s father.  Hang on theres a astrologian there!! And mogshop items that were released in the final patches of heavnsward. Please be consistent show! Back to the plot Akio is rather happy that his plan will work smoothly where comically the players are typical final fantasy players and blow the smallest things out the water when his father takes on a monster to high level for him. In some rather nice editing and general goofing that I know that both myself and many of my friends in game have done we get the first scene of Akio’s character meeting his fathers. And his farther speaks no words and leaves. Akio realises his father has no way to communicate in game and the episode ends with Akio giving his father a keyboard and his voice.  I look forward to seeing where this show is going the opening gave me a few nostalgia moments and i’m curious to see if some current issues in japan might also be touched on. Also beautifully planned out scenes both in and out of game with some real interesting choices. A great representation of player base but lack of more up to date content in the eyes of the story but randomly show up in the back ground when they do shots outside there guild house. Which leaves me to question the lack of Au ra in Akio’s guild. Are they racist against dragon people and new classes? Who knows maybe there token aura was sleeping.  so far 8/10

Deryk is 100% Oschon because there's no way the devs can pass on the drama of him leading us through the three raids/six heavens only for him to walk before us into the last boss arena and turn around suddenly in divine form with the nameplate 'OSCHON - THE WANDERER'.
