I'm almost done with Wind and Truth, and wanted to animate just a tiny section of my favorite scene!

outer wilds is 40% off on steam - if you've not played it yet, i really really recommend it! to not spoil much - it's a super rewarding, immersive game about discovery, so, the less you know going in, the better! i played it this summer totally blind and i'm still thinking about it. a lot.

it won't be for everyone (no game is), but it's really wonderful if it clicks with you! so i urge you to at least give it a shot. the last time i loved a game so much i became a walking ad for it was for hollow knight - presumably a whole lot of my followers have played & love that game, so i just wanted to say : i consider outer wilds to be just as amazing of a game! i've even been purposefully avoiding reblogging spoilery fanart as to not rob any of you of the blind experience, just in case! that's how much i love it!!!

I’m still away so I’ve barely been online but I just scrolled for a few mins and all I can say is:

Of all the themes in Mouthwashing, I think the themes of punishment and virtue are the most subtle.

It’s so odd because it’s a subversion where all the characters are punished for their virtues more than their flaws except Jimmy. Curly sees the best and people and tries to do right by all parties whether deserving or not. He is then forced to see everyone fall to their worst states while he can’t do anything. Daisuke is optimistic and hopeful, playful to a fault and a big morale. He dies in agony the one time he is forced to act in a serious event. Anya is kind and capable, knowledgeable in her field. Yet, she is treated like a dunce and does being treated like a dead weight.

The only characters who aren’t punished per se are those without direct virtues. Swansea is ornery and rude the moment we meet him, Jimmy is self explanatory. Yet, Swansea is still punished with Daisuke’s death, while Jimmy escapes in a way. Not having to face the final aftermath or even acknowledging how he could never really fix it. He suffers and is tormented, but he doesn’t really care because in his mind he didn’t fail in his head of proving something to Curly.

This is rambling y really but it really is the theme of no good deed but to the extreme. Good people punished for their attempts at virtue while the bad person victimizes themself over their suffering.

Had a very real, very scary thought about possibilities. If this is real, if Bobby really is dead canonically and Peter isn’t coming back as anything more than an executive producer, more of the cast than Angela is probably going to consider leaving before or during next season, even if the show gets renewed for a tenth season (which. *sigh* about that for right now). All of their posts calling him their leader, a dear friend, the rock of the cast essentially, and how they or Tim have spoken up about arguing against killing Bobby off because they don’t want him to leave. And the fact that Peter didn’t want to leave in the first place. If it were me, I would feel like fair game for an MCD as well, because if they can kill off the literal rock of the show and one of the executive producers’ character, they can pull the rug out from under any of the cast at this point. And idk about behind the scenes, but the schedule of filming going much later due to rescheduling tells me that the cast doesn’t get much warning. Angela apparently found out that Bobby was going to die from a SCRIPT. This has been poorly handled on so many levels, and if the cast values their peace of mind over trusting Tim to make better decisions for the rest of the characters, it would be totally possible that some of them would be prepared to leave of their own accord instead of being told they’re leaving with little warning or care paid to either their character or themselves as part of the cast family.
