My iris are blooming like crazy. I wrote “my” but they were planted long before I called this home. All manner of other things are also flowering, although I don’t know what they are. Some are so very tiny and cute. All are beautiful.

Saint Seraphina

Also known as Fina and Serafina 

Born: 1238 at San Gimignano, Tuscany, Italy

Died: March 12, 1253

Feast Day: March 12

Patronage: people with disabilities, physically challenged people, spinners, San Gimignano

Saint Seraphina, an Italian Christian girl was a pious youth and diligent house keeper who helped her mother spin and sew.  At 10 years old, she endured the deaths of her parents and a paralyzing illness that confined her for the rest of her life on a bed made from a wooden pallet.  Devoted to St. Gregory the Great, he appeared to her to predict her death. She died as predicted on his feast day at age 15 and white violets bloomed from the pallet after her body was removed.

Spring Dance. A little painting on canvas featuring a blackbird, bluebells and some early spring butterflies, the small blue, tortoiseshell, peacock and brimstone. There were always clouds of brimstone in the New Forest when I was small, and the peacock overwintered in our old apple trees. I miss those days. This small painting is available in my Etsy shop. 🦋

Island Spring

I’m not sorry that I roamed the yard yesterday instead of working on a pattern. Grape hyacinths are blooming like mad in their domain, and a couple more daffodils have joined the first rogue. Some day I’ll have a wild spring yard full of color.
