Remembering British actress and comedienne, Patsy Rowlands, who passed away January 22nd, 2005, aged 74.

Having won a scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, her career spanned more than fifty years. She appeared in nine Carry On films, including the most profitable of all, Carry on Loving, and left an impressive body of work in British television and on stage, in comedy, musicals and quality drama.

She created an enduring comic persona of a slightly desperate, middle-aged single woman on the make, generally working as a secretary or housekeeper, or as in the Please Sir movie, a fellow teacher at Fenn Street in love with Mr Hedges (John Alderton).

She starred opposite Thora Hird in a sitcom based on the Salvation Army, Hallelujah (1983-84), appeared in The Bill, and in 1992 had a memorable cameo as Spudgun's mum, Mrs Potato, in the Rik Mayall/ Ade Edmondson comedy Bottom.

Her final screen credit was for a dramatic role in the family saga, The Cazalets (2001).

She had a great moment with Kenneth Williams in Carry on at Your Convenience (1971). After the WC Boggs and Son works outing, Mr Boggs himself (Kenneth Williams) finds himself unclothed and in the bed of his secretary, Miss Withering. She was given possibly one of the great Carry On lines;

"Don't worry, I know what a man looks like, you know...and you're not all that much different..."

The dumbest stuff I've done in Bully.

1. Tried fighting the whole football team.(got knocked out pretty fast-)

2. Failing the mission "Save algie" to prefects because I accidentally took him into the girls bathroom without reading the sign which triggered the "trespassing" crime.

3. Punching Russell for calling me a loser(I got knocked out 30 secs later since he's the strongest in the game-)

4. Hitting Russell with a bat for revenge but then running into a wall by accident because I moved the camrea in the wrong spot. (Seconds later Russell destroyed me- )

5. fighting the preps inside of the boxing place because biff insulted me. They all gained up on me beating me to a pulp. (They're boxers-)

6. Tackling nerds for fun infront of a prefect- (I later got detention)

7. Beating up Fatty, forcing him to give me the stinkbombs instead of paying for them.

8. Punching a car's windows infront of the cops,prefects and townies. (They all teamed up to try and stop me but I got ontop of the car and slowly slingshotted them all, knocking them out)

9. Punching Fatty inside of a store, getting kicked out and being greeted to a cop outside-

10. Fighting Russell early. (U know what happened-)

9. Beating up petey for insulting me when I accidentally bumped into him and Gary.

The latest episode of OSW Review dropped just before I was about to settle down for bed and it was a review of the movie Spice World. I wasn’t a fan of the Spice Girls when I was a kid but I can’t deny I was in awe of the fact that they very quickly became a worldwide phenomenon. You couldn’t switch on the TV or the radio without the girls being a constant presence. Whatever you think about their music you can’t deny that whoever put the group together was a fucking genius and realized they had a money making machine on their hands. I think in order to have a truly successful musical act all the members have to have their own distinct personalities whereas members of most bands you see today are just a bunch of friends who are more or less exactly the same. While most bands don’t go the route of naming their members after their personality traits, behavioral patterns or hair colour (which I still think is a bit weird and the only other group I can think of who this applies to is the seven dwarves) you can see that their plan was the make the group full of different personalities so that every audience member would have their favourites. If you didn’t like Posh you could still get into the band because you liked Scary or Ginger. It’s pretty damn ingenious. The OSW lass also made the point that I have always agreed with that Melanie C AKA Sporty Spice was the only one who could actually sing. She’s a tremendous singer and I think her rendition of I Want Candy is the best version of that song I’ve ever heard. In my opinion she’s also the best looking of all the Spice Girls but you wouldn’t know it back in the 90’s because she constantly was made to dress like a dole scrounger but when she’s not playing Sporty Spice she’s incredibly fit. On thing about their review was that they showed a clip from Bottom and then they immediately cut to a clip from Spice World which features Steve O’Donnell who is the actor who plays Spudgun in Bottom but they never mentioned it in the review. Speaking of Spudgun one thing I’ve never understood about him is the origin of his name. In one episode Spudgun implies he got his nickname because of something vile he does with potatoes. However in a later episode it's revealed that his real surname is "Potato" so surely THAT'S where he got the nickname?
