Inspired by that Pitchfork article with Bill, what are the artists and albums that have meant the most to you throughout your life?

1. The Beatles (every album really, but Help, Revolver and Sgt. Pepper especially)                                                                                                               -They’ve been a part of my life for as long as I can remember and I still listen to them on a daily basis. When I think of music, I think of The Beatles.

2. The 4 of Us (Classified Personal)                                                                      -Really great Northern Irish band. Brendan Murphy’s voice is so soulful. Declan Murphy is a virtuosic guitarist. Volatile is very sad but beautiful.

3. Josh Ritter (Hello Starling)                                                                                   - He’s a poet. Simple as.

4. David Byrne/Talking Heads (Look into the Eyeball, Speaking in Tongues, Love this Giant feat. St.Vincent)                                                                              - David Byrne quite literally changed my life. He sings and writes in a way that’s so pure whether he’s anxious and paranoid, or ecstatically happy he never comes off insincere. Look into the Eyeball features some of the greatest songs he ever wrote. Speaking in Tongues is a rhythmic masterpiece. And Love this Giant broadened my perception of what music could be.  

5. St. Vincent ( Love this Giant, Strange Mercy)                                                    - Annie Clark finds a way of combining heavy distortion with really sweet, fragile vocals and the result is electrifying. The first time I heard Dilettante the melody and production hit me like a bus. Cruel has such a unique meshing of styles tied together by an infectious riff. Cheerleader is a really moving, modern feminist anthem.                                                                  

6. Rufus Wainwright ( Poses, Out of the Game )                                                   - He has the most stunning voice I’ve ever heard! Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk is incredible. Out of the Game was produced by Mark Ronson and features top-notch songs. 

7. Vampire Weekend (Modern Vampires of the City)                                            - Hannah Hunt breaks my heart every time I hear it. Step and Ya Hey are totally hypnotic. They incorporate such a vast array of influences into their work without distracting from the songs themselves. I can’t wait for Father of the Bride to be released.

8. Anderson. Paak (Malibu)                                                                                     - I love his sense of humour. I can listen to him regardless of what mood I’m in.

9. The Rolling Stones (Let it Bleed)                                                                       - Solid album from top to bottom. You Got the Silver is my favourite love song. The lyrics are vague but really vulnerable and touching.

10. Townes Van Zandt (Delta Mama Blues, Self-Titled)                                        - I feel like country music has been so polluted by commercial mediocrity that it gets overlooked. Townes Van Zandt is so honest about all of his experiences. He regularly catches me off-guard. I’ve listened to Come Tommorrow I don’t know how many times.

Favorite bands: I like a lot of shit, and I’ve settled on glam rock, punk, new wave, and garage rock as my go to for everything (the current playlist has Iggy Pop, The Babyshakes, The Pretenders, Nikki and the Corvettes, Bikini Kill, Peaches, X, Black Flag, Misfits, Siouxsie Sioux, Carbonas, Radioactivity to name a few...), but I’ll always have a spot for anything Thee Michelle Gun Elephant, David Bowie, T-Rex, No Doubt, Oasis, The Marked Men, L’Arc en Ciel, Placebo, Selena, Roxy Music....there are several musicians who have a multiple projects or solo stuff that I love like Chiba Yusuke, Mark Ryan, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop, Glenn Danzig...This doesn’t even touch the surface (I like a lot of weird shit, too lol)
