The McPherson Tape
Tumblr media
Summary: The Van Hesse family are celebrating the fifth birthday of their youngest member, Michelle (Laura Tomas), when they are terrorised by aliens. Youngest son Michael (Dean Alioto) records the entire evening.
Almost-lost found footage horror that proves that there’s still scares to be found in analogue media, despite extremely low budget.
Rating: 3.75/5

The McPherson Tape (1989) aka UFO Abduction: The First Found Footage Horror Film
The McPherson Tape (1989) aka UFO Abduction: The First Found Footage Horror Film
Happy Thanksgiving! Don’t get abducted by aliens (unless you’re into that kind of thing). The McPherson Tape perfectly fits the Thanksgiving holiday since it’s about aliens invading a small family’s house in the country in Connecticut- just like the English Colonists invaded Native American lands! Only these aliens don’t sit down and have a friendly feast with the humans in The McPherson Tape…or…

The McPherson Tape (1989)
Tumblr media
Movie #1,070 • WATCHLIST WEDNESDAYS
Proclaimed to be the first ever "found footage" movie and really who's to say otherwise? Let's be honest, that's the only reason me or anybody else is checking thing out.
There's a certain charm to no-budget VHS aesthetic but the early banter is unbearable — adult men acting like 12yo boys — which is more annoying than forced. I think the acting is fine for what this is, honestly. The aliens and spaceship are shot from a distance at night and alongside that VHS grain, you can't see how bad they look (but you can clearly guess: i.e., very very bad).
Kind of hilariously the director actually remade this a decade later with a bunch more money (comparatively speaking) that aired on UPN. Both movies are on YouTube here and here.
I don't think I'd necessarily recommend this unless you are a deep psycho for such things.
SCORE: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️¾

Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik is fantastic. Weaves together a few stories and common fairytale elements, fantastic read.

All that comes to mind is Till We Have Faces, sorry

I recently read the Marrain Chronicles, by Anne B. Walsh–a series of linked short stories, mainly available on Kindle–and they’d definitely fit the bill! She likes turning plots on their heads sometimes, but not in an aggravating way. (Her novel Homecoming might qualify, too–it’s only *kind of* a Cinderella twist, but it is full of magic and family and other good things and.. w really like it.)
*well, I really like it

The Flight of Swans by Sarah McGuire, A Long, Long Sleep by Anna Sheehan, Entwined by Heather Dixon, Of Beast and Beauty by Stacey Jay, Beastkeeper by Cat Hellisen, Snow White and Rose Red by Patricia C. Wrede, A Curse Dark as Gold by Elizabeth C. Bunce, Toads and Diamonds by Heather Tomlinson, Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter, The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury, No Good Deed by Kara Connolly, The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman, and of course any of Robin McKinley’s.
All of these are great suggestions and have been added to my list. Thank you so much!

Horror Movie Review: The McPherson Tape (1989)
Cheap is all good and proper provided the movie at least entertains. Something that The McPherson Tape really fails to do.
One of the earliest examples of found-footage horror, The McPherson Tape (originally known as UFO Abduction) was written, produced, and directed by Dean Alioto. It stars Tommy Giavocchini, Patrick Kelley, Shirly McCalla, Stacey Shulman, Christine Staples and Laura Tomas. It’s 5-year-old Michelle’s birthday and the Van Heese family have gathered in the Connecticut mountains to celebrate her…

Chris: This short film is grainy, cannot see much in it, a precursor to the Blair Witch style cam horror films, Watch: When Free only for horror film fans interested in the grainy history of found footage horror films.
Richie: If was practically a no budget found footage film that could have been fun except for the characters constantly avoiding the situation by playing cards, birthday cake time, drinks later, Watch: When Fee if you are interested in early found footage type films.

Model Helena Christensen, 50, called 'too old' to wear sexy top: 'Slightly tragic'

Helena Christensen may be a supermodel, but even she is getting flak for stepping out in a sexy bustier.

The Danish beauty wore a black lace bustier paired with high-waisted jeans to fellow model Gigi Hadid’s denim-themed 24th birthday party on April 22. But the racy look fell flat with a fashion editor who called it “tacky” and argued that, at age 50, Christensen was “too old to wear that.”

Writing for the Daily Mail, former British Vogue editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman shamed Christensen for her outfit, accusing her of looking like “the madam in a one-horse town.”
Shulman, 61, went on to argue that women of a certain age should know better than to wear sexy or revealing items.
“We might like to think that 70 is the new 40 and 50 the new 30 but our clothes know the true story,” she wrote, later adding, “Something you wore at 30 will never look the same on you 20 years later. Clothes don’t lie.”
She also wrote, “When women’s bodies no longer serve any child-bearing purpose, we find flaunting them disturbing and slightly tragic. I don’t claim that this is fair. But it’s true.”
It didn’t take long for Shulman’s remarks to generate some swift backlash. Christensen fired back at the criticism by sharing a photo of her wearing another bustier alongside pals Tali Lennox and Camilla Stærk.
“Let’s continue to elevate and support each other, all you beautiful, smart, fun, sexy, hardworking, talented, nurturing women out there,” she wrote, adding the hashtag #ooopssheworeabustieragain.

Her famous friends were quick to back her up.
“You are BEAUTIFUL inside and out,” wrote Edward Enninful, who replaced Shulman at British Vogue.
“She should be ashamed of herself,” fellow supermodel Linda Evangelista added. “You are a goddess.”
“Just read that article,” wrote model Karen Elson. “B*tch please ... you are on fire!”
“U always do, my beautiful friend,” Julianne Moore responded.
“How dare any woman shame another woman,” creative director Ronnie Cooke Newhouse said of Shulman’s takedown. “And how sad she has become so bitter and sunk to such a low level. You look amazing.”
Shulman has not yet addressed the backlash, though critics have flooded her Instagram page with comments like “I’m sorry Alexandra but you’re too old to wear this” and “You’re just too old to post on social media.”

1)Alexandra Shulman 😡 talking about #helenachristensen 'When women’s bodies no longer serve any child-bearing purpose, we find flaunting them disturbing and slightly tragic. I don’t claim that this is fair. But it’s true.' HC is literally a goddess, she can wear wtf she wants.

Christensen may have the last laugh. According to her Instagram Stories, her Stærk & Christensen brand — whose swimsuit collection was just modeled by Brooke Shields — could be whipping up some new merchandise: bustiers.
