Bring Her Back

Summary: After the death of their father, siblings Andy (Billy Barratt) and Piper (Sora Wong) go to live with the eccentric Laura (Sally Hawkins), only to find out that there's something really sinister going on...
Philippou twins really find feet in intense sophomore that outdoes debut in many ways. Best gone in blind (heh).

Materialists
Summary: Matchmaker Lucy (Dakota Johnson) finds herself in a love triangle between aspiring actor ex-boyfriend John (Chris Evans) and millionaire Harry (Pedro Pascal).
Decent second effort from Song that allows cast to properly spread wings. Second-act plot twist could have been handled better.

Friendship (2024)

Summary: Socially awkward marketing exec Craig (Tim Robinson) begins to fixate on his neighbour, weatherman Austin (Paul Rudd), and attempts to strike up a friendship with him.
Last half drags, lead character complete asshole, Mara, Rudd, and Grazer wasted. Funniest joke was the end's name fuck-up.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025)

Summary: Ava Bucks (Chase Sui Wonders) and her friends agree to cover up a car accident they inadvertently cause. One year later, however, they receive an ominous note, and start being picked off one by one by a mysterious killer.
Dull, unintentional parody of slashers that cannot decide on tone or main character and treats returning characters like window dressing.
Rating: 1.5/5

Superman (2025)

Summary: After intervening in an international crisis manipulated by billionaire Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), Superman (David Corenswet) must fight to keep the public opinion on his side... amongst other things.
Solid start to DCU that lacks emotional gut-punch moments and features "5 Years' Time". Good use of supporting characters, though.

M3GAN 2.0

Summary: Rogue robot M3GAN (Amie Donald and Jenna Davis) is rebuilt in order to stop the attempted AI takeover spearheaded by hostile and newly-self-aware military robot AMELIA (Ivanna Sakhno).
Silly, action-packed sequel that doesn't take itself too seriously. Most logical direction a M3GAN sequel could have gone.

Clown In A Cornfield
Summary: A group of teenagers in small-town Missouri, including new girl Quinn (Katie Douglas), are hunted down and slaughtered by Frendo, the town mascot.
Very funny and gory slasher with satirical bent and surprising queer twist. You've got competition, Christopher Landon.

The Ritual (2025)

Summary: Two priests (Dan Stevens and Al Pacino) must put aside their personal troubles and perform an exorcism on a long-troubled young woman (Abigail Cowen).
Outdated project with nothing new and irritating, unsteady handheld(?) camerawork. Not scary, too (visually) dark, and most egregiously, it's boring.

Thunderbolts*

Summary: A group of antiheroes realise that they must work together after being caught in a trap.
Tragically post-Endgame entry that's surprisingly grounded. Characters gets standout moment(s), film takes unexpected turn. Could stand to lose maybe 10-15mins.

Final Destination Bloodlines
Summary: College student Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana) returns to her family after having recurring nightmares of a disaster involving her grandmother to try and save them from their gory fates.
Tony Todd scene highlight, callbacks to previous films not obnoxious. Overall refreshing take on series, even if the CGI's embarrassing.

Sinners (2025)

Summary: Twin brothers Elijah "Smoke" Moore (Michael B. Jordan) and Elias "Stack" Moore (Michael B. Jordan) return to their hometown at the height of Prohibition, only to find a more supernatural evil waiting for them.
Stunning camerawork, excellent music, and great performances all around make for an engrossing 2hr 18min take on the vampire genre.

In the Lost Lands

Summary: Bounty hunter Boyd (Dave Bautista) and witch Gray Alys (Milla Jovovich) journey into the wilderness to retrieve an artifact for a queen.
Sludgy Anderson-Jovovich collab with Bautista's (unintentionally?) funny "Bitch killed my snake!" and an ending that goes on for too long.

Mickey 17

Summary: Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) is an "Expendable", meaning he gets cloned when he dies. Things get awkward when his 17th self meets his 18th self.
Impact of blackly comic premise and intended message lost in big budget and names. Worldbuilding and main performances solid.

Drop

Summary: Widowed mother Violet (Meghann Fahy) receives threatening messages from an unknown number during her first date in years, causing her to fear for her safety and the safety of those around her.
Landon effortlessly switches genres with confident performances from all involved. Pretty decent use of dead/dying memes as well.
