gangs fave food and drinks 😃
Going with non-canon things here (because what’s the fun in spouting the canon stuff over and over again?)
Bruno Bucciarati
We already know Bruno can’t cook.
His tastebuds are… questionable at best.
Because he thinks he CAN cook.
He really enjoys anything with clams, however.
No one will ever let him handle clams.
All clam sellers?
Wow… they’re suddenly all out of clams for the day.
Bruno can never ever buy clams.
But this man loves them.
Especially with pasta and a white wine sauce.
Favorite drink is water, in all honesty.
Leone Abbacchio
Heavy meals.
A real meat and potatoes man.
Specifically red meat (beef) with a red wine.
Slow roasts are a delight.
But he does not have the mental fortitude to make this.
He eats raw potatoes, instead, to cope.
Bruno has offered to make him a roast.
He politely declines by saying he’s not hungry enough for it.
But if Bruno does make it, he stomachs through it.
Wine drinker confirmed.
Dry reds.
Pannacotta Fugo
A fan of greasy foods or light and fresh foods.
No in-between.
Fritta all the way.
Or a salad.
Fried vegetables are a personal favorite.
But if they’re fresh vegetables, he also will never complain.
Likes to go to the markets early to get fresh vegetables.
Also recruits Narancia in going shopping early in the morning for these vegetable shopping trips.
Tea and coffee drinker.
Likes darker blends.
Narancia Ghirga
Absolute veggie and fruit lover.
He is far from being a picky eater and will eat anything in front of him.
He’s also a soup fiend.
This man loves soup.
Will easily down five bowls of soup in one sitting.
He can stomach Bruno’s cooking but Mista always insists on cooking for him.
Big snacker, too.
Loves orange juice.
But also vibes with cola and apple juice.
Has a restriction on how much cola he’s allowed to drink (per Abbacchio’s rules to make sure he has a healthy enough diet because Narancia WILL suck down an entire carton of soda if he can).
Guido Mista
Seafood dishes.
Fresh tilapia with some parsley, garlic, and lemon.
It’s just a simple delight.
The side is steamed broccoli and linguini in some light olive oil.
Also the worlds pickiest eater.
Not in the sense that he won’t try things.
But if he’s in the mood for something specific, he will only want that specific thing.
Can make himself any dish he wants.
Beverage of choice is white wines, sprite, and occasionally a coke and rum.
Giorno Giovanna
Rice and curry.
It’s his go to because it’s easy and packed full of flavor.
Big root vegetable fan.
Used to only be against red meat but now he doesn’t eat any meat.
However, he does love blackened tofu.
He just wants food that’s packed with flavor and intense.
Also is blind to how bad Bruno’s food is.
He is a tea fan.
Herbal teas in specific.
Trish Una
French cuisine is a favorite.
But if Trish can’t have that, she settles for most pasta dishes.
A very picky eater.
She doesn’t want to eat things she considers to be gross.
Also the food has to be aesthetic.
She enjoys eating soup with Narancia.
Chicken is the only meat she will eat.
And it cannot be too dry.
Her favorite drink would have to be mineral water and fresh squeezed lemons with ice.

Pairing: Idol!Mingyu x Non!IdolReader Words: 1,253 Notes:
Anyeong! this is my first shots of Mingyu, I wrote it last year when I'm feeling so tired. By reading this, I hope you can heal fast and find your warmness again! Warning that English is not my mother language, so bear with some mistaken grammar. Any constructivism critics will be helpful hehe! See you at the next shot! - with love, oppaspearl. ---
The steam was fulfilling your bathroom ceiling as you wipe the moisturizer on your cheek. It was a long day for you. Some meetings did require your attention and concentration, then some papers works also made you concentrate to read all the agreements before you sign them. Not to mention some brainstorming about upcoming events that required your creativity. Indeed, being a creative director in a creative agency had a lot to do.
So by that, when you arrived at your apartment, you straight off to your bathroom. Your muscles and brain are screaming for a hot and relaxing shower. After all, tomorrow is the weekend, and you don’t have any schedule besides being at home and taking a rest. Well, you do have a schedule that is enjoying your boyfriend's cuddles.
Speak of the devil, your boyfriend who was no other than Kim Mingyu, told you that he will be home late than usual when he called you previous that day. Dating an idol, make you realize that they spent almost their comeback preparation not only practicing, and recording, but also some meetings that take hours. It was the fourth time in a week, as you count, Mingyu told you that he will back later than usual which was usually already at home around six or seven in the evening when his schedule was not too tight.
As you step out of the bathroom wearing your bathrobe and towel on your wet hair, you glance at the digital clock hanging on the wall near the bed. It’s already half past nine, so you decide to cook an easy dinner for yourself and your boyfriend. Changing into one of your boyfriend's shirts and bike shorts, you then make your way to the kitchen.
Tonight you decided to cook spaghetti alle vongole, the clams pasta that you usually make when you are lazy to cook. Combining with Mingyu’s favorite wine, you believe that dish is the best to close both your and Mingyu long day. Putting the slow jazz music to the speakers on the storage below the television in the living room, you then begin to chop some garlic and peppers.
You were really into the music since you didn’t hear any sounds of the main door the time you cooked the pasta and the clams on your pan, you feel a pair of arms wrap securely around your waist. The smell of cooked clams was beaten by the strong cologne smell that you know so well. Smiling to yourself as you stir the pasta, you feel a familiar head on your shoulder blades.
“Hi, sweetcheeks.” you greet him. “You said you will be back late tonight, baby.”
Mingyu nods and sighs. “I told hyung-nim that my back hurt from dancing too much since yesterday, so we finished early.”
“Did you already shower, my love?” you ask softly to him as you notice that his hair was damp.
“I did, baby,” Mingyu tells you and he sniffles your bare shoulder blades that his shirt didn't cover up.
His action makes you start to wiggle since it was ticklish for you. Instead of stopping, Mingyu tightens his arms around you and lets out husky chuckles.
“Stop it will you? I tried to cook us dinner here, sweet boy,” you warn him but he keeps sniffling your smell.
Mingyu sighs in relief. “How can I stop when you smell too good to resist.”
“Well, it was your shirt, dummy.” You chuckle. “So, it makes me smell like you.”
“I know that,” he points out. “But your soap make me sleepy.”
“Oh, so I’m your pillow now?”
“I’m always your pillow, baby,” Mingyu tells.
“Fair point,”
Your hand turns off the stove, and you turn your body then give him a kiss on his lips. The softness of his lips was always your endgame whenever you are tired or even having a long day. It is similar with safe and warm whenever you feel it. You can’t lie that you are not addicted to his kisses and cuddle.
As the kiss grows intense, you pull away from him and make Mingyu pouts at you, “Don’t you want to kiss me, baby?
“I want to,” you admit. “But we need to eat, okay? How about you take your favorite wine?”
“Red or white, missy?”
“Up to you, love.”
Mingyu nods and leaves a peck on your lip, then says, “Okay then, sweetheart.”
Mingyu releases his hugs around you and does what you said. While he takes the wine, you begin to prepare the pasta on the plate before turning to the dining table that was not too far from you. You set both of your plate and glass above the marble dining table that was behind the couch. As you gonna sit, you realize that you didn’t take any utensils yet, so you go back to the counter to take them.
By the time you already got the utensil, you turn to the dining table, finding that Mingyu pull two of the seat together. It makes him sit not only in his chair but on the chair that is supposed to be yours. You grin ear to ear before looking at him with a smirk as Mingyu also smirks at you.
With smirking, Mingyu looks at you with a sneaky expression. Like it told you that there was no seat left except his lap. But then you don’t know if Mingyu was too tired or too clingy until he didn’t notice that there were also chairs in front of him. Smirking you pull your plate and your glass to that position until it makes you and him face each other.
Groaning and throwing his head back, Mingyu then whining, “Yah! Why don’t you sit on my lap?”
“You know if I sit on your lap, I cannot eat in peace, right?” smiling, you pour the wine that he got into both of your glasses. “You just gonna sniffling around my shoulder and it tickles.”
“Which means, I love your scents, baby.” Mingyu pouts. “You know it’s such a shame if you don't sit on my lap because I thought you you gonna feed me and enjoy my cuddle.”
Your jaw dropped at Mingyu’s words. After two years of dating, you are always surprised and shocked by the way Mingyu flirts with you and also his clinginess to you. Well everyone knows that Mingyu is the golden retriever of Seventeen but not everyone knows that Mingyu will be extra clingy and drop his cool boy image when it comes to you.
“Fine,” you sigh and walk to him. “You lucky that I love you, you know that?”
Mingyu grins ear to ear and wraps his arms around your waist as you sit on his lap. “I love you too--so much, baby.”
“Say Aaah.....”
You hold the spoon and move directly to his mouth, which Mingyu opens to welcome the food. You pull away the fork from his mouth as Mingyu took a bite of it. Mingyu then chew the food happily wiggling his head like a happy kid. Looking at it, you just chuckle and shake your head.
Yeah, he is something else.
“You big baby,”
“I am your baby, tho,” Mingyu says in between chewing. But when Mingyu notice that you narrow your eyes at him, he stops chewing and looks at you with his puppy eyes. “Right?”
“Right, right.”
You nod and offer him another bite which he accepts happily.
It is indeed how your long days should end; in Mingyu warmness.

Enid's tail taps the soft leather of Yoko's very nice couch. The other woman is sitting opposite her, arms and legs crossed and awfully calm. She wonders if the vampire can smell her worry.
"Why?" She whines. "Why me?"
"Because it's my birthday, and you're my best friend." Yoko sips her wine glass of blood. Enid hopes the glass in front of her is a dark red wine.
She feels the heat of her face— she must be bright red. If her skin was any hotter, she'd be able to see steam. She grips her thigh with one hand, trying to appear calm with the other relaxed.
The affect is probably ruined by her dipped head. She feels like a guilty pup.
She really thinks it through in her head. She would do this for Yoko, she would anything for Yoko. She would fight tooth and nail for her. She would be anything she wanted.
But this...
"If you don't wanna, you don't need to, 'Nid." Yoko sets her glass down, stretching her delightful arms across the back of her sit. "This is no fun if you don't enjoy yourself too, Doll." She's so calm despite asking that of her. She must've done this a hundred times by now.
The thought makes something dangerous swell in her belly.
"If I do this..." she looks back up to face Yoko. She somehow got more beautiful in the time since she last saw her. "Would we still be friends?"
Yoko's face softens from the calm, rock solid look and becomes something more gentle. It helps cool her face by a fraction.
"Enid," she breathes like a prayer. "I would never stop being your friend."
"Promise?" Yoko laughs softly. The noise makes her heart beat slow. It's no longer pounding her rib cage.
"I promise, Pup." Yoko stands suddenly, downing the rest of her glass. "If you're all ready to go, I'll be in the bedroom." Enid nods then, letting the thigh gripping her hand relax.
"Yep, yeah, yup." She stammers. "Cool. See you soon."
Yoko laughs again and blows her a kiss as she walks. She's been in Yoko's room for girls' nights, but now the idea of her cool silk sheets and fluffy blankets sounds terrible. Like she's staying at some hotel and not the bed of a very close friend. She takes a very deep breath —which doesn't help her calm down in the slightest amount— and stands. Her hands are sweaty and she feels gross all over. Like a clam.
She walks slowly to the door. If Yoko could see her, she would laugh at her for acting like she's about to die.
"I can hear you, Baby." Yoko coos. "You don't gotta be afraid. I won't bite too harsh on your skin. Unless you want that?"
Enid runs into the room to make this awful walk go faster. She nearly slams into the doorframe, but she manages to avoid it. She thinks about leaving the house and faking her death.
Yoko is nude. Completely so. One of her best friends is nude and so very cozy in her bed and all for her.
For just tonight. That's all this is. A birthday gift.
She stumbles like a newborn deer to the bed, tripping over herself to not injure her limbs.
"Ah-ah!" Yoko points a finger. Without her glasses, Enid can really focus on the divine red of her eyes. Red like the blood she drinks. Red like the wine. "I'm not letting some dressed lady into my bed, Lovely. Strip."
"Yes Ma'am." She almost tears her throat trying to grab the zipper at her collar, yanking it down and tossing her jacket to the floor. She's half done with her shirt buttons when a hand strokes her abdomen. Yoko is no longer lavishly spread against her bed like some royalty to feast on; she's got her cool boney hand pressed flat against her stomach.
"Yoks?" She whispers.
"I changed my mind. Get in bed and let me undress you, hm?" Yoko leans back again, pulling Enid in by her belt.
"Alright." She's more than strong enough to stop the other woman, but she hardly wants to. Not when Yoko's hand slides between her shoulder blades and she presses nice lips to her neck.
"Gorgeous," Yoko whispers, "so beautiful for me, Enid. Good girl." Her knees wobble on the bed, almost falling into Yoko. She is a cruel woman.
Yoko's hands work the buttons with much less intensity but it's loving. Delicate in a way that makes Enid wants to pile on top of her and never get up.
She runs her knuckles across the thick hair at Enid's navel, trailing down until her hand stops at the buckle of her belt.
"You good to keep going, Baby?"
"Yes." She slips her shirt off, all the buttons undone by Yoko's clever hands. The vampire smoothly unbuckles her belt, taking it off and dropping it to the floor. She feels open, but not unsafe. Like looking through the windows of a safe house.
She's on her knees above Yoko. The bed springs creak under the combined weight. She knows it's well-made and won't break.
She wishes she could be the same way.
Yoko settles a hand on her thigh, the other grabbing the zipper of her pants. She pulls down, letting Enid's clothing spread like a blooming flower. She places a hand on her bulge, thumbing across her.
"Already hard for me, Sweetheart?" She presses gently at the mid of her, dragging a noise out of Enid. "You touch yourself to the thought of me when I left you?"
"Yoko—" she chokes out. She places her larger hand over Yoko's deathly-cool hand, rocking against it for friction. "Please."
"Please what, Puppy?" Yoko moves her hand to angle it better at the base, letting Enid hump her like a dog in heat. "What me to touch you raw? Skin to skin?"
"Please."
"Oh shush, Love. I got you, yeah? I got you." She grabs at the band of her boxers and pulls them down, letting Enid, fully hard, slap against her belly, pre messily smearing against her happy trail.
Yoko grabs her and squeezes softly, letting Enid rut against her hand.
"Messy girl, aren't you? Needy needy girl. Making such a mess of my hand. Gonna make a mess of me, too?" The taller woman whines, sharp teeth clicking awkwardly together as she pants.
"Yes, yes, gonna—" Yoko pumps her hand once and Enid almost sees heaven. "—Wanna make you so messy, cover you—"
With a flourish, Yoko's hand leaves her, letting her twitch and smack her stomach, so close to the brink.
"You aren't gonna finish on my hand and leave nothing for me, 'Nid. I'm having my fun too."
The werewolf nearly sobs, but lets Yoko sit her head on silk pillows without a fuss. She looks something akin to a goddess there— soft skin, narrow hips and a soft belly, cushioning fat on her stomach and spread between her legs and arms. She looks like a beautiful meal for Enid to sink her teeth into.
Maybe calling her a goddess is wrong. They wilt in envy at the sight of Yoko.
She's better than them.
"You gonna give me my gift or are you gonna keep looking at me like I'm some prized catch?"
Enid jolts at her speaking, completely lost in her reverence. She quickly works boxers and pants off, leaving herself nude as well. "'M sorry, you're so pretty."
"I doubt that's the best word you can use, Enid. Maybe I thought teach you some new ones? You'd probably like me spanking you with a ruler and calling you a bad, bad girl wouldn't you?"
Enid settles for dropping her face in between Yoko's lovely legs, kissing the soft thigh next to her head. She shifts her head and presses her nose into slick-damp pubic hair, whining into Yoko's center.
She laps at the older woman feverishly, tasting her. She's addictive in a way that words could never do justice; she isn't sweet nor bitter nor salty— she tastes like Yoko. It's a paradise that heaven could never compare to, always falling short to Yoko's perfection.
Even muffled through her thighs, Enid can hear Yoko cursing and groaning aloud. Yoko lives decently far from any other houses, but they could probably hear her if they strained their ears.
The werewolf focuses on her clit, sucking on her lightly to make her weep.
"Enid," she cries, "oh Enid." Yoko's legs are wrapped around her head as tightly as they can, so unafraid of cracking her skull, trusting her to be strong enough to take all of her.
The feeling of Yoko tightening around her tongue in bliss is a kind of peace that makes Enid want to give up drinking. Maybe give up drinking water too, drinking only Yoko.
Yoko pushes her by her forehead, slacking her legs and letting go of Enid's head. She doesn't leave her mind, though. She's made herself comfy there.
"Was I good?"
Yoko laughs through quick breaths, patting Enid's head.
"Very. Now." With shocking strength, Yoko flips Enid on to her back.
"How about the rest of my gift?"

Day 4: love language
.
.
1551-1578,
Madrid
Months after Valladolid, Spain received a box of bunny-shaped marzipans. It came with no note, but it was fine, he didn’t need one.
A week later he had a rich velvet sack of their newly-found and beloved potatoes tied with a string of gold delivered to Lisbon, directly from the colonies. In return, a still steaming plate of bacalhoada, codfish layered with tender sliced potatoes, onions, olives and halved eggs, arrived the next day.
A few more months and he received a sponge cake, layered with meringue and fruit, to which he responded with a generous plate of paella, the seafood fresh from the coast.
The plate returned empty, clean, and with a bottle of good wine.
He would send him tomatoes and Portugal would send back pastries. Portugal would send him mangoes and he would send back bottles of high quality olive oil.
There would be entire months of silence, entire years Portugal spent fighting the Ottomans in the Indies and would come back to Europe only to leave again within days, and there were times when Spain would be too engrossed in wars in Europe to remember their little tradition. A couple of boxes of fruitcake went stale and hard on his desk by the time he returned home, deep fried offerings went unanswered. But like a language, he learned to tell when Portugal returned victorious when his servants would announce the arrival of boxes of clams and sardines and fresh fruits from the neighboring kingdom, or when he had suffered a defeat at sea and all he would receive were sad little honey cakes. On those days he would send back whole pieces of jámon, pots full of steaming cocido, bottles of sherry. It was easier to communicate with Portugal like this, without words, without accusations, just two friends sending food and drinks back forth across the border. And for a few years it had been good, it had been enough.
But then it stopped.

What a joyful, loving welcome to Seattle! Sunae, Tim and Lauren love to play in their kitchen. They worked together to create a very special feast: an artful charcuterie board, sweet steamed manilla clams, Thai chicken lettuce boats, oven roasted Copper River salmon, broccoli rabe, rice of course and Auntie Sunghyun outrageously yummy kimchi!!! All served with sumptuous wines. When we were ready to switch from red to white, Sunae looked at us and said, “We’re family right?” Then she poured a little white in each glass so we could swirl and drink the remnants of the red before moving on. Perfect! Cousin Sunae’s a real kick ~ straight forward, genuine and kind. We’re very lucky people.

I don't remember seeing any asks about solely fish based foods across tamriel, so what are the most popular fish based foods around the provinces?
Fish and seafood are much beloved by every Tamrielic race, but what sort they consume is entirely dependent on geographical access to bodies of water. Whether it's oceans or lakes and rivers, there's a dish for every fish lover out there.
Altmer
Summerset inhabitants are spoiled for choice when it comes to fish, as they are not only surrounded by the ocean, but also have access to bodies of fresh water like the Clott River. One of the most traditional fish dishes, said to be passed on from the Aldmer, combines ocean fish with river crawfish in a delightfully flavourful stew served with rice, somewhat similar to coastal Imperial paella. The seafood is stewed in Russafeld Heights white wine with herbs and spices, and the boiling mixture is poured over rice and left to cook on low temperature until the rice is creamy and tender. You can also find more Altmeri seafood inspiration at the Anchors Aweigh Inn!
Argonians
The stereotypes are true: Saxhleel cuisine is, where possible, primarily seafood-based. Whether it's Blackwood Stuffed Banana Leaves or baked clams in coconut sauce, there's a little something for every seafood lover out there in Black Marsh. Most importantly, everything must be as fresh as possible; no pickled fish! Be sure to try the Lilmoth specialty of whole coconut coal-grilled snapper and king prawns, served with calamansi sambal and coconut rice.
Bosmer
Fish are most certainly Green Pact compliant, but many people seem to forget that the Bosmeri diet consists of far more than just meat! Both river and ocean fish and crustaceans are beloved across Valenwood, and popular seafood dishes include things like timber mammoth cheese-baked mudcrab, fishcakes served with crispy bacon, and creamy molten scampi baked with witchetty grub "rice" . Rich, filling, and delicious!
Bretons
Seafood is much beloved by coastal Bretons, and there are many ways to serve it in High Rock! From smoked and breaded herring roe to fish pies and soups, Breton seafood dishes are renowned for being mild yet flavourful. Aside from the ubiquitous crisp fish and chips (always served with plenty of salt and malt vinegar), fans of fried seafood can also enjoy a whole range of battered delights, from cod bites to prawns, mussels, squid, and crab claws when visiting any Breton street food or beach stall. Don't forget the lemon aioli!
Dunmer
Seeing as Morrowind and Solstheim are both islands, there is an abundance of fish dishes featured in Dunmeri cuisine that are often overlooked in favour of more exciting meats like nix-hound or guar. However, one can't call themselves a true seafood connoisseur without trying a Narsis favourite: a flavoursome seafood broth thickened with saltrice, brimming with generous slices of Resdaynian Sailfin, Shalk-Brother Crayfish, steamed hackle-lo, and kwama egg drops. Simple, satisfying, and very tasty.
Imperials
The Gold Coast is renowned across Tamriel for its delightful fresh seafood, and takes special pride in featuring it in small sampler plates known as tapas. Squid ink paella, boiled cold octopus with lemon, grilled fish sausages, and scallops in brown butter sauce are some classics that will whet your appetite! Of course, don't forget to pair it with your favourite white wine, in true Cyrodiilic fashion.
Khajiit
Southern Elsweyr is known for its delicious seafood, and if there's one cohesive theme there, it's the spice! You can expect any Khajiiti fish dish to be loaded with flavour and an appropriate amount of tear-jerking spices. I'm a huge fan of grilled lobster tails topped with loads of chunky fried chilis in sweet moon sugar syrup, Pellitine Tilapia red curry with coconut rice, crunchy baby squid in moon sugar saltrice sauce, and crispy fried Khaj'Roh (something of a cross between an eel and a catfish) salad with sour young papaya.
Nords
People love picking on Nords for our pickled fish, but always forget that Skyrim has access to rivers, lakes, and the Sea of Ghosts, thus making seafood one of the backbones of Nord cuisine. Whether it's smoked fish roe paste on rye bread for breakfast, mudcrab salad for lunch, or baked salmon with potatoes and leeks for dinner, you'll find no shortage of fishy delights all day, every day.
Orcs
Wrothgarian Orsimer have greater access to the coast, and as a result have a more seafood-heavy diet than their inland kin. Blood cockle omelette, made with chub loon eggs, is a favourite dish in the region, and is served with frost mirriam-infused echatere cream cheese. Another local specialty are savoury, cake-like octopus balls served with a sweet and spicy mayonnaise dressing, and topped with crispy dried whitebait and shaved bonito (the latter being a curious import made popular by Baandari travellers).
Redguards
You won't find much in the way of fish in the desert, but Redguards from Sentinel, Hew's Bane, and Stros M'Kai love their seafood! Curries are one of the most common ways to serve fish and crustaceans, and they range from mild and creamy to spicy and pungent. In addition, prawns and crawfish with sweet goat's butter sauce topped with crisp cereal flakes, fried fishcakes with shredded coconut and chilis, and bread rolls stuffed with curried potato and mudcrab are just a few of the delicious things you can try on the region.

jelly! can we hear about your favourite pasta (shape) and also favourite pasta (dish) please thank you
well favorite pasta shape depends on dish definitely... I really like a pasta salad with elbow macaroni... I've been using a lot of fusilli lately too, for pasta salad and pasta sauce. it hold the sauce really well!! But I just think elbow macaroni are fun. ALSO those little tiny short tubes. I don't know what they're called but they're super yummy in soups!
I looked it up and I think they're Ditalini
So I really like pasta salad but a lot of storebought stuff has gross things like peppers and celery in them, or their dressing has a lot of mayonnaise...
For a pasta dish, I love clam linguini... It's not very hard to make, which is nice! but tender clams steamed with butter and shallots and white wine...
For noodles, the possibilities are BIGGER one of my easy meals is glass noodles in a a sauce of lao gan ma/sugar/soy sauce/sesame oil, maybe some leafy veg if I have it. I had a lot of gai choy recently, and it was super delicious boiled and thrown in with the noodles.
BIANG BIANG NOODLES thank you for telling me about biang biang noodles. so many delicious types. I can be a basic bitch with the tomato egg, but the lamb cumin....my god. there's a place in the city that make them not-spicy enough that I can eat them.

Christmas Family Vacation in Europe: 5 Traditions Your Family Will Adore
Tumblr media
It's that time of the year again: twinkling lights, steaming mugs of hot cocoa, and the sweet sound of carols in the air. But have you ever thought of adding a touch of European magic to your festive season?
Having a Christmas family vacation in Europe is a whole new world of wonder, with traditions that are both delightful and enchanting. Dive into a winter wonderland of European Christmas charm as we guide you through five heartwarming traditions your family will absolutely love. Let’s take a look, shall we?
1. The Magic of Germany's Christmas Markets
There's an unparalleled charm to Europe during Christmas, and Germany sits at the very heart of this enchantment. The German Christmas markets, known as Weihnachtsmärkte, are not just markets; they're a sensory experience.
The gentle hum of holiday chatter, the smell of roasting chestnuts, the feel of handcrafted wooden ornaments… It all transports you to a world that feels like it's been lifted from a storybook.
The most enchanting of these markets is perhaps the Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt. Here, a young girl dressed as the "Christkind" or Christ Child, inaugurates the festivities with a prologue, heralding the beginning of the season.
As you stroll with your family, be sure to try the famous Nuremberg Lebkuchen: a gingerbread treat that has warmed the hearts of many for centuries. No Christmas family vacation in Germany with Dreams Wishes Travel would be complete without sipping on some Glühwein, the warm spiced wine that seems to capture the essence of Christmas in a cup.
2. Iceland’s Thirteen Yule Lads
Iceland, with its captivating landscapes and unique traditions, promises a Christmas family vacation that feels almost otherworldly. Among the Northern Lights and geysers, the tale of the Yule Lads comes alive.
Far from the singular Santa Claus tradition many are used to, Iceland introduces us to thirteen cheeky brothers, each with their own quirks. From the 'Door Slammer' who loves to make noise to the 'Sausage Swiper' who can't resist pinching sausages, every night is a delightful guessing game.
What's more, Icelandic children place their best shoes by the window, hoping for gifts from these merry mischief-makers. Good children wake up to find treats, while those who’ve been a tad naughty might just discover a potato instead.
It’s a blend of anticipation and humor that'll keep the whole family entertained. And if you're in Iceland during this season, joining in this tradition will give your kids some stories they'll be eager to share back home.
3. The Enchanting ‘Feast of the Seven Fishes’ in Italy
Italy, the land of romance and culinary wonders, takes the Christmas family vacation experience up several notches with La Vigilia. This Feast of the Seven Fishes is an age-old tradition observed on Christmas Eve, celebrating the wait for the midnight birth of Jesus. But in true Italian style, it's as much about family as it is about food.
Across the country, families reunite, and kitchens buzz with activity. Grandmas knead dough, uncles share fishing tales, and children's laughter echoes, creating a festive symphony. The menu, though primarily seafood, varies from region to region.
In coastal towns, you might find dishes made with the freshest catch of the day, like linguine with clam sauce. Inland, salted cod or eel might make an appearance. It's not just a meal; it's a bonding experience, a time of sharing stories and traditions.
When in Italy for a Christmas family vacation, joining a local family or attending a community feast can be an unforgettable way to truly experience the heart of Italian Christmas.
4. Portugal’s ‘Consoada’ Christmas Feast
If you've ever dreamed of celebrating Christmas on the balmy Iberian Peninsula, a Christmas family vacation in Portugal is just what you need.
Here, the heart of the festive season is a family gathering known as ‘Consoada’. Traditionally held on Christmas Eve, families come together to await the midnight Mass, "Missa do Galo" (Rooster's Mass). But before heading to the church, there’s the matter of the grand feast.
Central to this meal is ‘bacalhau’, the beloved Portuguese codfish, often served with boiled potatoes and cabbage. But the highlight for many, especially those with a sweet tooth, is the array of traditional desserts. From ‘filhós’, sweet fried pastries, to ‘rabanadas’, Portugal’s take on French toast, every bite is a delightful surprise.
Don’t be startled if you find an empty seat at the table. It’s kept in memory of the departed and also in the hope of welcoming unexpected guests. The evening blends warmth, remembrance, and the joy of togetherness, making it a truly special experience.
5. The Magical St. Lucia Day in Sweden
Amid a long, dark Scandinavian winter, Sweden introduces a radiant glimmer of hope and light. St. Lucia Day, celebrated on December 13th, turns the entire country into a realm of flickering candles and melodious songs.
As dawn breaks, the eldest daughter in families across Sweden dons a white robe, a red sash, and a crown of glowing candles. She becomes 'Lucia', bringing warmth and light to the household.
But it’s not just about the visual spectacle. The aroma of freshly baked ‘Lussekatter’, saffron-infused buns, fills the air. Served with hot coffee or ‘glögg’ (mulled wine), it's a treat the entire family looks forward to.
Parades, concerts, and processions flood the streets and churches, with everyone joining in song and celebration. This tradition is a beautiful reminder of the victory of light over darkness, making a Christmas family vacation in Sweden a soul-stirring experience.
