The chill night air fill my lungs when I take in a deep breath. It's so quiet up here, no sounds coming from the city beneath us and all the lights from cars, buildings and street lamps makes the scenery before me almost fairytale-like. I've started to come up here when my nights are bad and the terror fills my mind. Up here I feel free.
Tonight is one of those bad nights, I can't shake the feeling of being in danger. I know I'm not, but ever since my time in Hydra I've always been on high alert, you know... Since I never knew when they would come for me, beat me, hurt me... Tonight my room felt too small, and the walls seemed to close in on me, imprisoning me. Even though I know it's all in my head, I can't seem to find the will to fight the feelings today, so I went to the roof to find some peace for myself. It's a cold evening, but I don't really care. The serum in my blood makes me run hot and I don't really feel the cold anymore. Sometimes I miss it, but most times I don't even think about it. I take another deep breath, calming the inner chaos in my head. But as I let the air slowly out of my lungs again, I feel a presence close to me. Every fiber in my body jerks awake and in less than a second I'm ready to fight for my life. "What are you doing up here, Kid?" the low voice of Clint reaches me from only a few meters apart. He is the only one I've ever known, that can move so silent that he can come almost all the way up to me, without I'm noticing. "SHIT! CLINT!" I jump when he talks and I glare at him "haven't we discussed that sneaking up on a super soldier and scaring the crap out of her is a bad idea?" I huff out the words as I try to calm my heart again. I'm not one to get scared, people don't usually have the ability to get the chance to do so. But Clint does, and he has taken every chance he got ever since he found out. He chuckles a bit, clearly enjoying the moment. And just for a second I think of dangling him over the edge of the tower, just for a second, to get back at him. But the joyful smile and the humor in his eyes makes me decide against it. Apparently I have a soft spot for the archer. He sits next to me and take in the view of the city before he speaks again "Nightmares?" he looks at me with soft eyes "You know you can talk to me, kid" "It makes no sense for you to call me Kid... You know that right?" I give him a half smile "I'm way older than you" He leans back on his hands and takes a deep breath with that amused smirk on his lips. "I know... But I like it, do deal with it, kid!" I giggle a bit as I shake my head and he continues "But seriously y/n, what's up. Are you okay?" I pull my knees up, put my arms around them and put my chin on top. My eyes search the distance without really looking for anything. "Yeah, I'll be okay. It's just one of those nights you know... I can't shake the feeling that HYDRA will suddenly be here to take me back. My room felt like a prison cell and I couldn't calm my thoughts enough to get rid of the feelings. I know it's stupid, I know I'm safe here... " My voice trails off, not knowing what else to say to explain. Clint doesn't say anything to begin with, it's almost as if he is trying to imagine what I'm going through. But then the sits back up and look at me, his calming blue eyes explore my face. "You know... I would be deeply concerned if you didn't feel that way, kid. The things you have been through, the fear, the pain and the torture. And you went through it all alone, you didn't have anyone to depend on... That just gotta mess with your head one way or another" He reaches out and gives my arm a gentle squeeze. "It's alright to struggle with inner demons, just don't keep it to yourself. All of us have been there in one way or another, so I speak of experience when I tell you to open up about it. Hell, even Bucky has started to open up, and heactually begins to seem quite human" Clint laughs at his last remark, but it only makes me groan and hide my face between my knees. After the fight I had with Bucky, things has in some ways lightened up, and in others made everything worse. It feels like Bucky tries, he doesn't leave the room as soon as he sees me anymore, he even asked me to pass the salt one time in the kitchen, so yeah, that's progress... Baby steps, as Steve says, is better than nothing. I've also grown much closer to Clint, even though, I believe that that has something to do with him finding it hilarious, that I beat up Bucky... I think he kind of forgets that Bucky beat me up too. In general the rumors about the fight has traveled around to everyone, Avengers, staff, S.H.I.E.L.D agents, including agents that does not even live in the tower. Everybody knows, and everybody has made an opinion about me from that. Some good, but a lot of bad too... "Hey, cheer up, kid. I know he's your friend... He'll come around, I promise" Clint seem to read me like an open book sometimes. It's a little freaky when he does that, but it also makes everything so much easier when being around him. "How can you promise me that?" I look up at him again, meeting his blue eyes and soft caring smile. "He just needs a reason to trust you again. You know, to feel and experience that you are there for him, like you always been. He loves you y/n... He loves you, and that scares the shit out of him, 'cause you hold the power to destroy him completely if he chooses to trust you, and you in return turn out untrustworthy. Do you know what I mean?" The sassy archer with a joke for every opportunity looks at me with such seriousness in his expression, that I cannot do anything than to trust him. I give him a tired smile and stretch my legs in front of me. " You know... I like this clever and wise Clint, maybe you should let him out more". The deep low laughter that erupts from the man by my side, lifts my mood tremendously.
Another day another boredom... I'm starting to be a bit restless in this huge tower of Tony's. I never thought I'd say this, but I miss the action, I miss to have a purpose. NOT the killing purpose and the beating innocent people up and stuff... That's a part of don't want back! But I see the gang go out on meaningful missions, I see them do good things, and I want that too. Tony and Steve have put me in training, so one day I can hopefully join them... But there are still a lot there needs to be done before I can go. This means I'm alone again, as Steve and some of the others are yet again away. Bucky is somewhere around, but not with me... shocker!
He's probably with Sam, neither of them had to go on tis mission, so I guess they are somewhere doing their own stuff. I throw the book to the other end of the bed. God, I can't even concentrate on reading a damn book. I've been trying watching TV, but as fun as it is, my head just can't keep up in the long run. I've hit the gym for a few hours and now I've read a book... Well, tried to read a book. I get up and walk to the big window. It's become one of my favorite places in the whole tower, my bedroom window. I feel like I can see the entire world from here, and I love it! But today I just stare frustrated out, and wish I could be part of that world. I lean in, rest my forehead on the cold glass and look down towards the gate where Brett is working. Why doesn't the gate close? It's been open for almost an entire minute now, and there are no cars in sight... Normally it closes as soon as a car has gone through. I straighten up and look closer... Is that? Is that Brett on the ground?! My heart starts to pound like crazy, and my head spins for a second. I trail the road leading up to the tower with my eyes, and when my eyes stop at the bottom of the tower, my eyes go wide and adrenaline kicks in. The guard that's normally standing by the door. is lying on the pavement, 30 feet from it. Blood is very clearly surrounding his head running down the hill. What the hell? My feet moves before my mind catch up on what I just saw. I run as fast as I can towards Bucky's room, praying that his in there, but before I even reach the door I hear gunshots and men screaming and yelling commandos from the living area. "F.R.I.D.A.Y, what's going on?" I yell out as I run the other way as fast as I can. There's no answer.... The ever present A.I is suddenly silent.
Something is definitely wrong! As I turn the corner I literally run into a man I don't know. But as we both regain our balance he raises a semi automatic rifle toward me. Well, I guess a said I missed the action... Now here it is! In a swift motion I raise my leg and kick the rifle to the right, the sudden hit causes the man to pull the trigger and the bullets spilling out of the gun, leaves a long line of holes in the wall beside us. I step forward, grab a hold of the man's shoulders, yank him downwards and knee him right in the face. As he tries to regain his aim on me, I grab he rifle by the barrel, jerk it out of his hand and swing it full force to the side of his head. The man's eyes turn white and he falls to the floor, hard. I look at the rifle, and see that it's bent... Great, that's not going to help me now. Apparently super strength isn't always a good thing, I think grimly to myself as I start to run toward the living area again. Something is going on down there. Just before I reach the door, I stop, look back and send Tony a silent thank you. Even with all of his fancy gadgets and artificial intelligence robot things, he's still old fashioned in some ways. In a case on the wall is a fire extinguisher and beside it, the thing that caught my eye... A huge fucking axe! At least I'm not going in unarmed. I stop just outside the door and listen, trying to figure out just how many intruders there are. "This has been far too easy, I thought you guys were the mighty Avengers, unstoppable and strong... And yet here we are, taking over your tower like it was made of Lego. You are pathetic!" The sound of someone hitting someone else, followed by a humorless laughter reaches me, and my blood freeze.... That voice belongs to Brock! Anger rises in me, and I adjust my grip on the axe before I step into the room and take in the sight before me. Sam is on the floor, unconscious with blood on his face. I try to detect a rise and fall off his body as he breathes, but the angle he is in makes it impossible. I pray to whoever is out there, that he is still alive. A few feet from Sam is 3 agents with HYDRA emblems on their uniforms and besides them is Bucky on his knees, hands locked in a device that's made to contain him. I know these 'cuffs' I've been in them too... Brock is holding a gun to Bucky's head, and an evil smile is on his lips. "Rumlow!" I roar, catching the attention of all the men in the room. "Well, well, well... There you are! I thought you were hiding from me, sweetheart..." Brocks eyes light up with something I can't really describe, other than absolutely bat shit craziness. "I've missed you so much. Been looking everywhere, trying to find you... And then, here you are, hiding with your old friends the entire time" Bucky looks from Brock to me, catching my eyes. "Let him go!" I command, but it only makes Rumlow laugh more. He acts like he has lost the last trace of sanity, since the day I left him in the park. I can only imagine what they have done to him as punishment for letting me slip away. "I'm afraid I can't do that, babe... You should know, it was your job to bring him back to us!"
The way he says the pet names, makes a shiver run down my spine. Bucky stare at me, like he can't quite figure out what to think. I can see the anger radiate from him, but I can't read if it's ment for me or for Brock. "Get up, Soldier!" he commands and yank in Bucky's arm "It's time to go!" "I told you to release him, you bastard!" I shout and take a step toward them with the axe raised. The agents beside Sam moves closer to me with their raised guns, but Brock yell "Stop! We need her alive too!" The agents step back, but don't lower their weapons. I look at Bucky, search his eyes and hope he understand what I'm trying communicate without words. "Trust me?!" I ask quietly. He looks me directly in the eyes, and for the first time since we met again, I see some of the old Bucky there. "What?" he asks. "Can you trust me?" the question hangs thick in the air. And then, there he is... my Bucky. He looks at me, nods and say "Yes, do it!" as he raises his hands high over his head and I do the same with the axe firmly in my grasp. Before Rumlow even reacts, I throw the axe at Bucky, with all the force I have in my body. As soon as the axe is out of my hands I throw myself at the nearest agent, taking them all by surprise. The sound of metal hitting metal is loud and cuts into the ears, but my God, it is a good sound, because the second the axe hits, Bucky is free. The metal plates in his arm shift as he fists his hand and readies for a fight. 2 super soldiers to 4 men is a fair fight... For the super soldiers.
And before long they are all knocked out on the floor. When the last agent hits the ground, both Bucky and I rush to Sam and turn him over. He has a nasty gash over his eye that bleeds a lot, but he is still breathing, thank God! "Sam... Sam!" I call out and shake him gently. "Come on bird-brain, wake up!" Bucky slaps Sam on the cheek, which makes him groan a bit as he tries to open his eyes. When he finally does look up at us, he says gruff "That's about damn time you too started to work together!" before he shuts his eyes tight and let's his head fall back to the floor with a groan.

Her eyes pooled with water as she watched her best friends in the living room of their apartment. She and Steve had been together for almost two years and everything was great, well, except for one thing – Sharon Carter, her best friend in the whole world, was in love with her boyfriend.
Both Sharon and Steve thought they were home alone. They started drinking late at night, which led them to play some games. The one being played at the moment was to tell their deep and darkest secrets. They didn’t hear her come in, so they continued playing the game. And she entered her apartment right when Sharon was exposing hers.
“Steve…” she heard Sharon say while looking at him, “I have always loved you…”
It was in that exact moment that she felt her heart break into million pieces. Sharon was one of her best friends and she trusted her with her whole life, but there was always a part in her that felt jealous of hear, even though she didn’t show it, or at least she tried not to. Having the perfect boyfriend, one of the best agents at Shield, being so beautiful and strong, and the way Steve would sometimes look at her. She had noticed it since she first joined the team. She even thought he was in love with Sharon, but those feelings went away when they finally started dating. She would sometimes feel a bit jealous of their close friendship, but she knew Steve loved her and would never leave her. Seeing Sharon professing her love for him made her feel insecure again, especially after the way Steve looked at her, as if he were ready to confess his love for her as well.
After that unexpected confession, she entered the living room, pretending she didn’t hear what had happened. The best way to deal with it was not dealing with it, or at least that was what she thought. When Steve noticed her presence, he went immediately to her arms, happy to see her home. She did hug him back, but Steve noticed something was wrong with her, especially after seeing her reject Sharon’s hug and giving her a smile instead before going back to the kitchen to make herself some coffee. He decided to speak with her once Sharon left, which happened just a few minutes later. She sensed her best friend was acting strange, so she decided to leave the couple alone and go home.
“You were acting weird” Steve said as he took another bite of the pizza they had ordered for dinner, “Did something happen at work? Was Nat too hard on you during training? She can be like that sometimes, but she doesn’t mean it.”
“I wasn’t acting strange” she answered without looking at him.
“You were. I felt it when I hugged you and then you rejected Sharon’s hug. Did I do something wrong? If I did, please tell me what it was. I hate seeing you like this.”
she sighed before finally locking eyes with her boyfriend, “You did nothing wrong, Steve. I’m just tired from training all day, nothing more.” She got up from the couch and patted his shoulder, “I’m going to bed. Goodnight, Steve.”
He didn’t even have the time to answer her, as she was already inside his bedroom, ready to go to sleep.
Once she was inside their bedroom, she took off all her clothes and picked an old t-shirt from his closet. As she laid down on the bed, she was engulfed by his scent, which was the final straw for her. The tears she had been trying to hold while she ate dinner with Steve were finally running down her cheeks and falling on the pillowcase. Why was she so insecure? Steve loved her more than anything and would never intentionally hurt her. Sharon was not a threat to their relationship, she was happily in a relationship with Frank and would never leave him. So why was she feeling so sad and insecure, afraid to lose the only person she ever truly loved? Steve entered the bedroom only a few minutes later, making her clean her wet cheeks as quick as she could before he noticed. He took off all his clothes, except his boxers, and laid next to her. As usual, he stretched his arms so they could fall asleep cuddling each other, but she immediately moved away from him.
He called her name, trying to figure out what was happening with her, but she didn’t answer him. Deciding that it was best to let her sleep, he shifted himself around, turning her back on her. And for the first time since the couple started dating, they slept with their backs to each other.
It was almost nine in the morning when Steve woke up. Luckily, the entire team had the day off, so he didn’t have to worry about going to work. He turned around, ready to meet his lover, but he only found an empty side of the bed and a note on top of her pillow.
Going off the grid for a few days. Already talked with Nat. Be back for Tony and Pepper’s wedding. I love you.
At first, he double checked the calligraphy in the note to make sure it was hers. Then, he thought it was a prank and that was gonna be waiting for him in the kitchen, but when he got up and didn’t find her there, he started to panic. Picking up his phone, he tried to call her, but she had left her phone on top of the coffee table. Next option was to call Natasha since she said in her note she had already talked with her, but her phone was off, so he got dressed and went to her apartment.
After ringing Nat’s bell for almost a minute straight, she finally opened the door, wearing a robe and yawning.
“Cap? Is everything alright?” she asked as she motioned him to come in.
“Where is she?” he questioned, already inside of her living room.
“Um, I don’t know Steve” Nat started to get worried about her friends. “She called me at 6am saying that she needed a break until Tony’s wedding. I thought she told you.”
“She didn’t.” Steve was pacing back and forth in front of the couch, nervously running his hands through his hair. “I woke up this morning and she was already gone. She left me this.” He handed the note to her. “I’m worried about her, Natasha. She was acting strange yesterday, but I was gonna talk to her about it today and now she’s gone and she-”
“Steve,” Nat interrupted him, “She is okay, I’m sure of it. The wedding is in just four days and she will be back by then. Whatever she’s going through, you’re gonna solve it together, but if she needs space, you gotta give her space, otherwise she will never come back. You know how she is, she doesn’t handle pressure well.”
“I just… I just wanna know what’s bothering her so I can help her get through it.” Steve’s voice was much calmer than it was before.
Nat went to his side and put her hand on his shoulder, “Just wait until Tony’s wedding and then you’ll talk to her.”
The next four days were like hell for Steve. He couldn’t stop worrying about her, thinking about where she was and if she was safe or not. The morning of Tony’s wedding, Steve got dressed and went to the venue. When he arrived there, he saw her happily speaking to Thor. There was a time where Steve was extremely jealous of the god of thunder. When he joined the team, him and her immediately started flirting back and forth. Back then, Steve and she weren’t dating yet, but he loved her. He accidentally found out that she and Thor were sleeping together when he went to her place late at night. It was something they usually did, go to each other’s apartments when one of them couldn’t sleep. That night, Steve was so distraught about Thor that he didn’t even text her he was coming over. When she opened her front door, she was only wearing a big white t-shirt that barely covered her bottom. The first thing Steve noticed was how effortlessly beautiful she looked; the second thing was that she wouldn’t wear that kind of t-shirt; the third thing was the t-shirt was a men’s shirt.
“I’m sorry, I forgot to ask you if I could come over” Steve cocked his head to the right, getting a clear view of her living room, where clothes were scattered all over the place. That was when he noticed the hammer on top of her coffee table. And then he remembered Thor was wearing a white t-shirt that day. “I didn’t know you had company. I’m sorry, I’ll talk to you in the morning.”
“Yeah, um…” her cheeks were burning with embarrassment. She knew Steve noticed the clothes and the hammer on her living room and the men’s t-shirt she was wearing, “this isn’t really a good time, but I can get dressed and we can go to your apartment. It’s fine Steve, really, I just gotta-”
“No,” he interrupted her, “it’s okay. I should have asked if I could come over. We’ll talk tomorrow, okay? Have fun.” Steve immediately left, not giving her an opportunity to answer him.
Since she and Thor stopped sleeping together, Steve never felt jealous of him again, especially after the Asgardian reassured him he didn’t have feelings for her and that he should tell her how he felt about her.
When the couple finally locked eyes, she looked away, continuing her conversation with Thor. Stee went to Sharon so they could finally talk about her confession a few days ago. Little did he know was that she saw them together and got closer to the pair without them noticing so she could hear the conversation. She knew it was wrong to eavesdrop on her boyfriend and her best friend, but she had to. What if Steve was telling Sharon he had always loved her as well? It was possible. Sharon loved Steve even though she had Frank. What if she was like Frank?
It wasn’t the conversation that broke her heart even more, but the look Steve had on his face as he watched Sharon walk away. In her mind, he looked at her as if she was his whole world, as if she was the only person he had ever loved. She thought Steve looked at Sharon like she thought he looked at her and that broke her completely, but she couldn’t ruin Tony and Pepper’s special day, so she had to hold it together. Every time Steve tried to approach her, she would sneak her way around and dodge him.
After telling a couple of funny stories about Tony to Pepper, she made her way to the bar so she could grab another drink, but the bartender wasn’t there. She decided to sit in one of the stools and wait. When Steve saw her alone, he went to her. This was his opportunity to finally talk to her for the first time in almost five days.
“Hey” he said as he sat next to her.
“Hi” she mumbled as she fidgeted with her fingers.
“I’m sorry.”
She let out a snarky laugh, “You don’t even know what you’re sorry for, Steve, so why are you apologizing?”
“I don’t, but-”
“Do you love her back?”
“What?” Steve asked confused.
“I know what Sharon confessed to you that night. I know how she feels about you. My question is, do you love her back or not?”
“How do you-”
“Just answer me, Steve.”
“No, I don’t love her. I mean, I do love her, but not like that anymore. I stopped loving her as soon as I saw you walk in into the tower.”
He tried to put his hand on top of her, but she quickly dismissed his touch. She didn’t believe what he had just said, not after seeing the way he looked at Sharon. Steve loved Sharon and she was just a replacement since he couldn’t have the real deal. She got up, but he gently grabbed her wrist.
“Please, I’m telling you the truth.”
“Let me go. This is Tony and Pepper’s day, I don’t wanna cause a scene, so let me go, Cap. Now.” Steve did as she asked and let go of her wrist. “Call me when you decide to stop lying.”
She left him alone at the bar. Sharon didn’t hear their conversation, but she noticed the way she looked as she made her way to Tony and Pepper to apologize for leaving so early. Sharon wanted to go to Steve, but she knew it would only make him feel worse about himself. She was sure he was in love with his girlfriend and that she was the love of his life, but she was also sure that her confession had left him confused.
She took off a couple more days. No one knew why, only Steve. Sharon suspected it was because of her, but she didn’t say anything. She got the confirmation when she didn’t visit her at the hospital after she was hurt in a mission. The only thing she got from her was a text saying “Glad you’re okay” and nothing more.
After almost one week and a half, she finally decided to text her boyfriend.
I’m ready to talk, you can come over. If you want to.
As soon as he saw that text, he sped up to their apartment. Truth was, he missed her like crazy and couldn’t go on one more day without her. Bucky was right – she was the one.
When he got there, she was sitting on their couch in the living room, a cup of coffee between her hands, waiting for him to arrive.
“Hey” he said as he joined her on the couch.
“Hi” she replied.
“So…” Steve began, “I just wanted to come clear with you – Sharon did tell me she had always loved me, and it’s true that I loved her in the past, but that changed the second you entered the tower. I fell in love the second I laid my eyes on you. And you might think I’m lying, but I’m not. I wouldn’t do that, not to you. If I loved Sharon, I would be with her. But I love you, and only you. You’re the only one and you will always be. You’re the one.”
“Steve…”
“Please, don’t leave. I can’t live without you.”
“I’m not leaving. I wanted to apologize for my behaviour. What I did was stupid and childish, I should have never run away from you, or Sharon. I just got… insecure.”
He put his arms around her shoulders and pulled her closer to him, “You have nothing to be insecure of. You’re the most beautiful person in the whole world for me and I love you more than I can ever explain.”
“I’m sorry, Steve. I really am.”
“I know you are, but I’m not the only one who deserves an apology. Sharon has been worried about you, she loves you and misses you. She was really upset when you didn’t come visit her at the hospital.”
“Don’t worry” she smiled at him, “I already talked and apologized to her before I got here. She said she was sorry for sharing that secret. We’re cool now.”
“That’s good, sweetheart” Steve grabbed her by the hips and pulled her on his lap, “Now let me show you how much I love you.”
She giggled before she grabbed him by the neck and kissed him on the lips, happy to be by his side again.

--
Steve carried your unconscious body out of the base after nearly losing you yet again. Getting onto the quinjet, he was faced with the shocked face of your godfather, Bucky. When you had gone missing, Bucky had felt immediate fear, knowing who had been the cause of your very disappearance.
"Holy shit, she's alive?" Bucky said, looking at you and then Steve.  Steve sat you down and looked for the handcuffs that were always kept on the jet and put them around your wrists, chaining you to the wall. "Steve, what are you doing?" Bucky asked.
"She's not Y/N, they did something to her. It's like she's the complete opposite of who she used to be, they called her Captain HYDRA," Steve told Bucky, going over to get the jet in the air and back to the compound and as quickly as possible, too. "Felt like a jab aimed at me." Steve mumbled.
"It's HYDRA, it's all jabs aimed at us," Bucky said, looking back over at you. You looked different, older and a lot tougher. "Did they say anything about what they did to her?" Bucky asked. Steve shook his head and sighed.
"They didn't say much, just said they knocked it out of her. I'm not quite sure I wanna know what it is," Steve said. A grunt got both of the super-soldiers attentions, turning around, they saw you waking up. You pulled your wrist and found that you were stuck.
"Wow," You mumbled. "Ah, Bucky Barnes, the traitor." You said, looking at him with a mischievous smile on your face. Bucky sighed out and stood in front of you, inspecting you.
"Y/N, kid, what did they do to you?" Bucky asked, you tilted your head and smiled innocently, poking your bottom lip out.
"Nothing," You said. Bucky now understood what Steve meant when he said you were the opposite of who you used to be. "What happened to you? You used to be such a badass, and now? You're a fucking mess." You sneered. Bucky's face hardened, but he had to remind himself that this wasn't you. He sighed out and put his hands on your knees, getting in your face.
"Y/N, I know that you're still in there, and if you wanna come out now and snap out of this, It would be great," Bucky said.
"Y/N isn't here right now, would you like to leave a message?" You asked him sarcastically. Bucky sighed and left you alone, going back over to sit with Steve, who was sitting with his head in his hands.
"I tried to talk to her," Bucky said.  Steve looked up and looked at Bucky, shaking his head with a dry laugh.
"A small part of me wants to believe that somehow I can get the real Y/N back, but the larger majority knows that I might never see my real daughter again," Steve said mournfully. He looked back to you and internally cringed, the evil look you were giving him made him feel like you were the enemy. Were you the enemy? No. Steve couldn't think like that. You were his daughter, not the enemy. Right?
--
"Don't be boring, Bucky, let me out!" You yelled, punching the metal door in front of you. You had been locked in one of the holding rooms of the Avengers base, since when they had tried to keep you in your own room, you kicked the door open and tried to stab Sam. You screamed as you punched the door again, causing a dent to appear in the metal in front of you.
"You're gonna hurt yourself!" Bucky yelled through the door.
"It'd be worth it in the end!" You yelled back, slamming your fist against it again, your chest heaving in anger as you realized you wouldn't be getting out any time soon. You sat back on the bed placed in the corner of the room, your back against the cold wall. You had changed out of your HYDRA uniform and into a pair of shorts and an over-sized t-shirt, you guessed it was Steve's. You had given up arguing with Bucky, and without the bickering, you didn't know what was going on anymore. You had sat for hours before someone came in. "Father, how nice of you to join me," You commented as Steve came in. He stood in front of you and swung a chair from the desk across from the bed in front of him, sitting down on it and facing you. He said nothing, only looking at you. "You sure you wanna leave me unchained for this? I tried to kill someone already, would hate to see the Avengers without it's Golden Boy." Steve ignored your comment.
"We found your HYDRA file," Steve said, looking at your through his lashes. You narrowed your eyes and tilted your head. "It's a miracle you're still alive, Y/N." Steve said.
"I could say the same about you, I should have killed you when I had the chance," You sneered. Stee sighed and put his arms on the front of the chair.
"When are you gonna give this up?" Steve asked you. "What's it gonna take for me to get you back, Y/N?" He asked. You smiled and looked over at your father, who didn't look too pleased with you.
"Why would you want me back? Didn't you want me to be better?" You asked him. Steve shook his head.
"Yeah, but I didn't want you to lose yourself in the process. I didn't want HYDRA to find to you and do what they did. You're 15, Y/N! You shouldn't be like this," Steve yelled, standing up from the chair and coming towards you. You jumped up on the bed, your hands being held out in self defense.  You looked down at your hands, and then at Steve.
"Leave me alone," You snarled. Steve was confused, what had he done to trigger you to think you were getting hurt. He nodded and left the room, leaving you on your own as the door slammed shut. When you knew your dad was out of ear shot, you burst into tears. You didn't know why, or how, but you couldn't stop crying. You had tried to kill all of these people that were around you, and here they were helping you.
Helping.
You pulled yourself together and let out a sigh as you shook your head. Why were you crying? You weren't supposed to be weak, you weren't allowed to be weak. You could never put your guard down, if you did, that's when they would try and take advantage of you. No, you'd never give them that satisfaction.
--
You found yourself becoming more and more relaxed around the Avengers, who were supposed to be your sworn enemies. Most things you were able to understand, but how you were so relaxed around the people who you had tried to kill various times since you had been there?Steve had moved you back to your own room, since you had grown less violent and weren't as much of a threat to yourself or anyone else anymore. Steve had noticed that you didn't make as many sarcastic or mean spirited comments, and that he barely heard you speak much in general. You were barely functioning, but Steve knew that you needed time, he knew what they had put you through.
"Aren't you hungry?" Steve asked you, watching you as you sat in front of him. He got you up a little earlier so you could eat breakfast together. You looked up at your dad and shook your head, twirling the spoon you held in your hand on the table.
"When are you gonna trust me with actual knives and forks again?" You asked him. Steve chuckled and shook his head, sitting down in front of you.
"When I think you aren't gonna hurt us or yourself, honey," He said, making you laugh quietly. "How did you sleep last night?" Your dad asked you. You looked down at your lap and bit your lip nervously.
"I couldn't really fall asleep," You mumbled. Steve nodded and looked at you softly. "I tried, but I couldn't." You put your head in your hand and cracked your neck, making Steve cringe.
"Jesus, kid, don't do that. I'm scared you'll end up breaking your neck," He warned you, making you grin. Steve was almost relieved to see that you were coming out of your shell, but it was only around him. Maybe you had started to remember that he was your dad, not your enemy. The remainder of the team that wasn't on the Alaska mission had came down, and that was when you became quieter. Steve kept an eye on you through out the day, he sparred with you and ended up under your foot again, only this time you weren't trying to kill him.
Well, that's what he hoped.
"You're rusty, old man," You said, bending over to give him a sarcastic comment. Steve shook his head as you moved your foot from his chest, allowing him to get up and stand on his feet.
"I'll give you that, you're in shape," Steve said, shaking his head fondly and smirking at you. You gave him a bitch face and rolled your eyes. "Alright, that's enough for today. You're doing well." He said. You shrugged your shoulders and went to speak, only to be cut off the wailing of the emergency siren and the lights dimming, the only light was that of the red warning ones.
"The fuck is going on?" You asked your dad, turning to face him. Steve grabbed your arm and pulled you to the room you were in at the start, the high security one. "Hey, what's going on?" You asked him, glaring at him angrily as he chained your wrist to the bed to keep you in your place.
"You have to stay here, alright? Do not leave this room, that's an order, Y/N," Steve ordered. You didn't get a chance to reply as he shut the huge metal door. You couldn't hear much outside of the room, guessing that this was some kind of emergency and it had nothing to do with you. You sat back against the bed with a huff, a bored look on your face as you planned to wait it out. What else could you do? These chains were made to hold you specifically, there was no way you were getting out. Well, at least without hurting yourself.
Bingo.
You shook your head as you pulled your wrist as far back as you could. Your wrist came down against the wall, making you groan as you pulled the broken and bruised hand out of the cuff. You knew it would heal itself, now your only problem was getting out of the room.  There was only one way in and one way out, and that was with a Captain's order, or in this case, thumb print. You looked around and found a conveniently placed roll of scotch tape in the drawer of the desk in the room, then you put it on the collar of your shirt were your dad had gotten you on the floor during your long forgotten sparring session. You pressed the piece of tape containing your fathers fingerprint to the thumb scanner, sighing in relief when the door clicked open.
-
"Where is she?" The handler asked Steve as he was pushed up against the wall. Steve growled as he pushed the man off of him and into the wall opposite.
"Like I'd ever tell you," Steve snarled, throwing a punch at the man in front of him. "You'll never get her." He told him. The handler clicked his tongue and smiled at Steve maniacally.
"I hate to inform you, Captain, but we located where sweet Y/N is," He mocked him. Steve grimaced and his stomach twisted.
No.
He couldn't lose you, not again.
"I hate to inform you, but whoever located me is dead," You said, getting both men's attention. You were standing covered in blood, looking eerily similar to Carrie White, only lacking in a white dress and telekenitic powers. "Hi dad." You said. Steve smiled, it was the first time he had heard that in almost two years.
"I see they broke you again, we're gonna have to bring you back?" Your handler asked, going to walk towards you but only to be grabbed by Steve and thrown back up against the wall.
"You can try, but I can't promise to be so obedient this time," You said, going towards him and pointing the knife you had obtained from the kitchen in his face, tracing lines across his face with the metal. "Maybe, I should just kill you right here and let you bleed out, but I heard that Stark just replaced the carpets and quite frankly, I don't think that you're worth a new carpet." You mocked him.
"And what are you worth?" He asked you. Steve had stepped behind you, watching you to make sure you weren't gonna do something you'd regret.
"Believe me, I know I'm not worth anything. But you? You think that just because you look after some kid for a year that you're the daddy in the situation, but when you go home at night, who do you have waiting for you?" You tilted your head innocently. He was seemingly frozen, and that was when you pulled your hand back. Steve grabbed your wrist gently, noticing the bruises from where you had broken it earlier.
"Alright, Y/N," Steve pushed you back and he stepped forward. "If I see you anywhere near here, or ever again, I won't stop her. Got that?"
--
Steve groaned as he woke up to the TV playing from the common room, and that of the booming thunderstorm from outside. He pulled on a shirt and trudged down the hall to lecture whoever was awake, preparing his words. Upon opening his mouth, he shut it, noticing that it was you sitting on the couch, flinching at any and all the cracks of thunder.
"Y/N? What's wrong, why are you awake?" Steve asked you, sitting down beside your trembling form.
"It's embarrassing," You mumbled, playing with the edges of your blanket and avoiding eye contact with your dad. Steve grabbed your hand and gave you and encouraging smile, making you sigh and shake your head. "I'm scared of the thunder." You said. Steve laughed quietly so you couldn't hear him, he knew you would get upset.
"It's not embarrassing, Y/N. Bucky's afraid of thunder," He reminded you. You nodded and shrugged your shoulders. "Do you want me to stay with you tonight?" Your dad asked you. You thought about it for a second.
"No, it's fine, I'm not a baby or anything," You said, almost as if he had accused you of something. Steve tilted his head at you and you sighed out, he knew you better than you knew yourself. "Okay, I'd like you to stay with me tonight." You admitted.
"Alright, I'll stay with you,"
