Never Say Die
You are here | part two | part three | part four
I can’t get this concept out of my head steve being a prisoner instead of hopper and coming back home.
Steve sat in the back of the car, unsure what to expect. Six months. Six months he hasn’t seen his friends, who he considered to be his family if anything. He wished he could say that it had been six months since the last time he seen his parents but that would be a lie. Strange how he could place the date and times when he last seen his real family but yet he didn’t know when he last seen his parents. It was a chilling thought. He doesn’t remember being this nervous about seeing his parents for the first time in a long, long time.
Then again this was under different circumstances. Last time he seen Dustin, Robin and Erica it had looked like he had died. The last time he seen Hopper and Joyce, both of them had been trying to reach them from god knows where with their own personal Russian translator. Now, when he steps out of this car his new life will begin. One that was much different compared to before he “died”.
He was stunned if anything. He doesn’t know how he survived. He had thought the torture he had endured at star court, tied to a chair was bad. Little did he know, the Russians got very creative in their homeland. His body sometimes still aches from his time there. Though, he’s been through hell and back nothing was more scarier then seeing his family again. What if they were different, what if they didn’t want him back? All questions that were bothering him. All questions that disappear the the second he he sees all of the kids gathered together in a drive way. Smiling and laughing as they all help the Byers unpack their boxes into a nicer home then what they had lived in before.
He smiles to himself. He’s unsure if they were told he was coming. He stops the agent in front of him from stepping out. To break the moment he was watching. Lucas was laughing as he carefully holds one hand on the back of Max’s back. Crutches under her armpits as she leans on on foot. Her other leg in a cast, along with one of her wrists. Both of them talking to each other in a way that told him they made it through the little dispute from six months ago. Off to the right of them, stepping out of the van carrying boxes was Jonathan. Handing them to Nancy, who was smiling brightly up at him. Mouth moving as she talked. Next to them, in a bean bag sat a boy with long silky hair. Obviously stoned off his ass as he wore a button down shirt eating pizza. Steve wanted to hear some of what they were saying, he pulls his window down just a smidge to catch Jonathan laughing.
“You know, the pizza was supposed to motivate you helping us carry our stuff in.” Hes looking at the other with a smirk. Steve chuckles softly to himself before his eyes move over seeing Will sitting on the hood of a car. Talking to El, who seemed to have lost all process in her hair growth. Both of them huddled together and talking with serious expressions. Both of their faces cracking into smiles when Mike comes walking over to them. There’s something awkward going on there but it seemed like they were all friends.
The front door of the house opens further, and Steve’s heart stops. Breathing not in his dictionary anymore as he watches Robin Buckley walk out with flying hands. God it was so her, though what takes him by surprise was the fact she was wearing his letterman jacket. How the hell she got a hold of it was beyond him. Then again Dustin must have told her where the key of his house was hidden. Let her in and it warms his heart in a way that doesn’t even make sense to know she wanted something that was his. Her hair is in a Bob and she’s yelling at someone. That someone showing his presence, walking out behind her. Steve’s in a near heart attack and near tears when he sees Henderson walking out with a cap on. Hair styled in the way that he had showed him, a hat firmly placed on the top of his head. Mouth moving a mile per minute. Talking right back to Robin. Even from here Steve knew the kid was being obnoxious.
“Come on Robin. It’s not that bad, right Eddie.” The boy turns. Looking for confirmation from Eddie the freak Munson. And Steve really shouldn’t be that shocked that Dustin would find a friend in a drug dealer. If there was trouble in Hawkins, Henderson sure as hell would find it. Steve’s about to freak out, but stops when he sees the amused look on the metal heads face. His hair was much longer then what he remembered it being.
“Sorry dude. Im with Robbie on this one.” Eddie moves a hand playfully moving the others head on his shoulders. None of them noticing the suspicious car on the other side of the street. Next came Joyce, whose hand was wrapped tightly in Hoppers. That was not a shock to see at all. Both of them laughing as they look around at the children. Like Steve had.
As expected, Hoppers eyes land on the car. His face going a bright red as he lets go of Joyce’s hand. Storming forward catching everyone’s attention. Breaking the peace as he looks like he’s ready to kill someone. “Get the hell away from my property. Don’t need the god damn government spying on my daughter. Last warning, next time I’ll -“ his words die in his throat as Steve steps out of the car. Hoppers back blocking the view of everyone behind him.
Steve looks at him with a amused look, holding his side. Body still recovering from his stint in another country. “Wow, nice welcoming home gift hopper.” He laughs. Coughing a little from the bruised rib. Though the bruised rib is nearly the least of his worries as Hopper pulls him into a bear hug.
“Never got a chance to thank you for saving Joyce and the kids. Considering the fact you fucking died.” Hopper gruffly rasps. “Everyone’s going to freak you know.” He warns.
“I know.” Steve says softly. Stepping back with a tight smile.
“Hopper what’s going on?” Joyce is now walking over. Obviously warning the kids to go inside. All of them complaining and bickering as they do. Steve could hear them. Her face pulls into a shocked expression when she sees Steve. “Oh my god.” She gasps as she moves nearly tackling him.
“What is it mom?” Jonathan’s voice is heard from the van.
“Everyone inside now.” Joyce yells. Helping hopper hide steve from everybody. They knew that the second they all seen him, the neighbors attention would be all over them. Something that they didn’t need was for everyone talking about how a whole group of people started sobbing in the middle of the drive way. That and Steve Harrington was supposed to be dead. Word got around, that was all they would need.
When he hears the front door closing Joyce finally looks at him. Looks right through him actually. “Oh god what did they do to you.” She sounded in pain as her hand cups his face. All of them still standing in the middle of the road. Only remembering where they were when a car try’s coming through. Hopper quickly thinks as he pulls off his ugly Hawaiian shirt. Quickly tossing it over Steve’s head. Who starts to gag.
“Oh my god you stink. I shared a cell with a guy who had stomach issues and you somehow stink more then our toilet.” He gags, being dragged up the driveway. Letting Joyce’s hand wrap around his as she moves him to what he assumes is the front door.
“Shut up-“ hopper rasps out.
“Honey, everyone’s going to freak out. Are you ready for this?” Joyce sounded like she was crying herself. Hand shaking in his. Steve felt like his world was just beginning again. Rotating, revolving whatever the earth does. It was happening again for him.
“Yeah.. yeah I’m ready.”
Im thinking about doing a part two though I’m unsure. If I did write more, it would be eventual Steddie. I don’t know if I should though 😭 should I?

Why we love Steve?
Appreciation post for Steve Harrington because we might see him the last time soon (I hope so not but...)
Season 1
He started of as a rich douchebag and had amazing development
He regretted immediately talking shitty about Nancy and even went to clean what he wrote about her
He ended things with all of his former friends because he realized they were assholes
He was worried about Nancy even tho they were on bad terms in that time
He regretted everything with Jonathan and came to apologize even tho from his side it could be: "my gf cheated on me with him"
He knew shit about what was happening and still he risked his life and came back to Jonathan and Nancy and saved them
After everything, he waited with everyone for Will to wake up, even tho he absolutely didn't have to
He bought Jonathan new camera and told Nancy to give it to him, because he knew Jonathan wouldn't accept
Season 2
He was amazing bf to Nancy, took care of her, talked to her
He was looking after her when she drunk instead having fun
She literally called him and their whole relationship bullshit and still he told Jonathan to take her home
The next day he was willing to listen to her after everything
He came back to apologize to her even he tho he didn't do anything ("I'm sorry... What the hell am I sorry for")
When Nancy wasn't home and Dustin called him to help, he went even tho he had literally zero reasons to help his ex's brother's friends
He was with them the whole time, risked his life, protected them, got beat up by Billy for them, helping them with Dart and everything
He was okay with whole Jonathan and Nancy thing, he was obviously hurt and still he did his best to reassure her, that it's okay
He became Dustin's brother figure, gave him hair advices and he even gave him ride to snow ball
Season 3
He was just so good friend, to Robin, to kids (when he helped them go to cinema)
He was so happy, when Dustin came back, he listened to him when his friends ditched him
He was helping Dustin with the Russia thing since the begining
He didn't make Dustin feel like he didn't trust him about Suzie and satellite and everything
He all over again helped Dustin, risked his life, his job, almost died, let himself beat up, tried to protect everyone,...
He just cared for everyone
His new crush just admitted she's lesbian and he had to good reaction - no judging, no grudge, no remorse, he talked to her and stayed friends with her even tho he must felt hurt when he finally found someone good to himself
He saved Nancy risking again his own life
He stayed supportive friend to Robin
Season 4
He's supporting LGBTQ rights and Robin's crush
He was on Lucas' game, when his other friends weren't
Yet again he was immediatelly willing to help Dustin and Eddie - when he was accused stranger to him
Again and the whole season he was protecting them, helping them, caring for them, (babysitting them)
He always wanted to put himself into danger instead others - Nancy, Robin...
He was worried for Max and looking after her
When she pushed him away he still went to her and thanks to that she's still alive
Did you see that surprised smile when he gót the letter?
This guy is literally giving them the free ride whenever and wherever they want
He jumped to lake to find watergate even when he didn't know what might be there (not just because he was good swimmer, but because he didn't want anyone to risk their lives)
In upside down he protected Nancy with his own body, risking his life (AGAIN)
When they were going back from upside down, he went last so he could see everyone safely go trought
When Vecna possesed Nancy, he stayed with her
He was the first one to hear Dustin in upside down and comunicated to him and Erica, which lead to them escaping
And the rest we'll see
EVERYONE JUST LOVES HIM - KIDS, NANCY, ROBIN..., because he's the very best of them
So... Did I forget something?

i would really like to know what part of vol2 was a masterpiece beyond it looking and sounding slick and cool.
first off. the Vecna reveal as the big bad behind everything when nothing in the previous seasons even hinted that he and his family existed? Those murders would have become a town urban legend in no time!! Especially since it only happened 30 years ago?? And as evidenced by the writers keeping in the line "the murder house" when Jason and co. talked about it, other townspeople beyond Eddie's uncle did know about the Creels so why did none of the other born and bred main characters ever know this?? This reveal was an ass-pull of a retcon plain and simple.
Max ending up in the coma?? Completely diminishes the Dear Billy scene. Oh, music and human connection saves you from despair?? SIKE! actually it doesn't because we really just wanted to use this Kate Bush song for style points. Trauma does actually get you in the end wdym? then they used the song again, for what I don't fucking know, but certainly not for thematic reasons. Timing the lyrics to come back just as Robin throws the molotov?? ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS. And also we get to El to "revive" Max because El really is just that special. No one would know what to do without her!
Not even going to get into that indulgent close-up of El's feet.
Not even going to get into posing dead Brenner like Jesus on the fucking cross.
Lucas' speech ending with "normal is just a raging psychopath". Really?? Really?? Was this supposed to be a shot at Jason? The same guy who, upon seeing Max - a stranger to him- immediately tried to rescue her?? I will die on the hill that S4 accidentally created a compelling antagonist in Jason and just never fucking knew it. (i've cooled down on my thoughts with this one. still think the line was stupid as hell though and that jason was a lot more compelling than vecna)
Eddie dying for no reason, plot-wise or narrative-wise?? WHY? So he could die a hero? BITCH HE COULD HAVE LIVED AS A HERO. I didn't care for Eddie all that much but he should have died right after his guitar solo if he was already marked for death. at least that would have been cool instead of stretching it out like what happened
Not even going to get into how Steven, Nancy, and Robin were choking for what seemed like an hour or longer. Pacing was off the entire 4-hour runtime but that especially seemed egregious.
The El and Hopper reunion feeling like an afterthought?? It was so emotionally dull. They might as well have made them reunite at the start of S5. El going "I always believed you were alive" BENCH WHERE. YOU LITERALLY CREATED A SCHOOL PRESENTATION TO HONOR HIM AS A DEAD HERO. This one actually got to me the most because I live for loving father and daughter dynamics and I was rooting for them to reunite but what we got.... it fell so, so flat.
The entire two day timeskip in the first place. Absolutely abhorrent. Completely cutting into the climax, completely removing the falling action.
Hopper fucking beheading a Democreature in slow-mo. The entire Russia story arc was already very heightened but you know what. yeah sure why not. WHY THE FUCK NOT
Mike's monologue about loving El even when she's not a superhero when she is literally doing superheroism right in front of him. Mike straight up saying with his full chest that his life started the day after Will went missing. Will who is next to him as he's fucking saying this shit. Will who has done nothing else this season except to help mend his relationship with El.
Robin seeing Vickie again at a fucking weapons emporium. WHAT FOR? They didn't even rationalize this with a throwaway line that maybe she and her (ex) boyfriend were going hunting or whatever. Literally just did this so we can see Robin upset. Because really? We could have that scene in the gym WITHOUT THE WAR ZONE SCENE.
Whatever the fuck they did to Steve "oh actually I wanna have six kids" Harrington.
Will not even getting the dignity of saying his feelings. Was a simple last longing look at Mike as he says, " I really am stupid for falling for him, huh, Jonathan?" Too Fucking Hard? No need to say Mike's name, no need to say the word GAY (calling him a fag or a queer or a fairy was fucking fine though) to make it clear as day where Will stood. it could have been done so easily with how they set up the Jonathan and Will scene. And now we have to contend with people arguing that maybe he really wasn't in love with Mike at all or the even stupider take that maybe Will was actually in love with Eleven.
Brenner getting shot multiple times was actually very cathartic and I'm glad El left him to rot. But again this just comes back to why is El's storyline the only one handled with this much grace and understanding for her agency?
The Russia storyline just fucking ending with them being able to cross country borders no problem??? and no sign of Dmitry or Yuri at all?? Fucking sloppy.
Mike just... existing as El's cheerleader now apparently?? What the hell happened to him. They couldn't even make him a malewife right because he had to have Will push him into his monologue.
Speaking of monologues, fucking Henry got pages and pages of the most uninspired villain script I've ever had the misfortune of hearing in this year of 2022. Yeah yeah we live in a society. yeah yeah El is actually just so special she even created her own super villain what else is new.
S4 Volume 2 was a total let down and I am not going to be blinded by the beautiful cinematography into saying it was better than it is, than what it could have been. All style, no substance.
And as redditor timlest said it best:

⚠️STRANGER THINGS 4 SPOILERS⚠️
Okay, but the Doctor Zhivago reference in episode 2 👀👀. I’m picking up on two meanings. Also the movie is, as Robin (roughly) puts it, about “doomed love” and takes place in Russia during WWII and the Russian Civil War
1) This is the most obvious one. It could relate to Joyce and Hopper’s storyline and I mean the parallels are there to a certain extend. I mean one of the main characters in the movie is named Yuri as well. I think this movie, from reading the plot line (I haven’t seen it myself) is more of a nod to the ending of season 3, but it could also relate the future of Jopper. Now I’m fairly certain Hopper and Joyce won’t die this season—like I’m 99.9% sure of this. And until Volume II drops, I can’t make predictions for season 5.
2) So the second interpretation relates to Steve and Nancy. With Stancy somehow re-emerging (it’s giving that one gif of Angela scaring Dwight), I feel like we are building up to Steve’s death (but I’m hoping I’m wrong). But Robin’s doomed love comment isn’t really helping to combat this theory. It could also mean Nancy dies and I don’t want this either as I truly love her character (I also relate to her in many ways, minus upside down shit and relationship wise—unless you count pining over Steve Harrington) However with Nancy and Robin forming a friendship (however, it’s giving romantic—or should I say roNantic—tension/chemistry) and Eddie and Dustin having a better bond, Steve is no longer the thread keeping them together so it just seems likely. It just seems like Steve is on the way to receive closure. But Steve’s death also seems too obvious at this point. Like yeah people have been scared in the past he was going to die, but I feel like more and more people have predicted him to die this season (idk it just feels different this time around). So it wouldn’t be much of a twist if Steve died (BUT it would still hurt); I’m manifesting a fake-out. OOF I went on a rant when I told myself I wouldn’t. Anyways if you are still reading, I think the “doomed love” thing could be pointing to how Steve and Nancy’s rekindling is doomed, either by death OR them just not working out (I’m hoping it’s the latter). But I feel like I’m reading way too much into this and instead used this reference to word vomit some of my thoughts about the future of Steve Harrington in stranger things.
(I’m sorry but I feel Iike this gif perfectly captures my reaction while watching this season and then seeing those Stancy scenes happen). This is NOT my gif, it belongs to @dwightandjimoffus

Day 23: Picnic
Read it on AO3 or read my whole Harringrove April Collection!
Jim Hopper never really expected to make it back to Hawkins from fucking Russia of all places, so he definitely didn’t expect to make it back and pretty much immediately end up with a second kid. It was just that Billy Hargrove had sacrificed himself to save El, and had somehow survived it, and Joyce was still a little mad at Hopper for not doing more about Billy’s shitty dad, and she had given him that look when it turned out that Billy didn’t appear to have anywhere to go once he got out of the hospital.
Well, he had one place to go, but Hopper figured moving into Steve Harrington’s apartment could wait until they were both out of their teens. He told everyone who would listen that it was because while Steve and Billy were both technically adults, they were also dumbasses, especially when they were together. He said, loudly and often, that he simply didn’t trust those two boneheads not to burn down Steve’s entire apartment complex, if left to their own devices.
What he said much more quietly, and only ever to Joyce, was that he remembered what it was like to be a kid with a shitty dad, and to cling to something simply because it was better than what he was used to. Billy might still end up with Steve—probably would, if the starry-eyed way they looked at each other was any indication—but Hopper wanted him to get there because he chose it, and not just because he needed a place to go.
Billy, for his part, insisted loudly and constantly that he would much prefer to live in an apartment of his own, out from under Hopper’s tyrannical thumb—and yes, that was a direct quote—but he somehow never actually found one that he liked. No one ever called him on it.
What Hopper hadn’t counted on, when he insisted that Billy move into the fancy house that he had bullied the government into buying for him and Joyce and the kids, was Billy and Steve’s commitment to fucking, just, all the goddamn time. Hopper had missed most of Billy’s recovery while he was in a Russian prison, but he found out later—from Joyce and Nancy and Jonathan and Robin and even some of the kids—that they had been caught at least half-naked by just about everyone before Billy was even released from the hospital. He wished, far too late, that he had chosen a house with fewer windows. There were far too many points of entry for him to manage effectively.
“You know Steve thinks he’s stealthy?” he said to Joyce incredulously one night after he caught Steve—wearing what was obviously one of Billy’s shirts and the smallest pair of shorts Hopper had ever seen—sneaking out of Billy’s bedroom window. Billy’s second-floor bedroom window. “He’s going to kill himself falling off the damn house.”
“You didn’t catch him until he was already leaving, Hop,” Joyce pointed out, “so he’s not exactly wrong.” Jim wondered when Joyce had turned on him too. He considered nailing the windows shut, but he was pretty sure El would kill him with her mind if he tried it, so he didn’t.
See, it turned out that “my house, my rules” only went so far with a kid who was technically an adult, and who had also sacrificed himself to save your other kid, so Billy got away with a lot. He got away with even more because both El and Will—and Max, who spent far more than half of her time at their house—were fully supportive of Billy and Steve’s ongoing shenanigans, and did their best to run interference with Hopper.
Apparently, one of the things Hopper had missed during Billy’s long recovery was the day some under-informed nurse let Billy’s dad in to see him. Everyone agreed that it had been a very dramatic scene, but they weren’t very forthcoming about the details. Only Max and Lucas and Robin had been there to witness it firsthand, but the kids all still talked about it in hushed whispers. The only way they ever described it to Hopper was to say that Steve had gone “just completely feral, Hop.” Neil had never bothered to come back, so whatever it was that Steve had done that the kids didn’t want Hopper to know about had been pretty effective. Max’s grudging affection for Steve had given way to complete adoration on that day, and El’s affection for Billy was well-established, so she had been right there with Max. Hopper hadn’t asked why Will was so supportive of the two of them, but he could guess.
So Billy lived with Joyce and Hopper and Will and El, and Hopper did his very best to maintain at least some semblance of propriety, and every kid in the house did their very best to defy him at every turn. It was exhausting. Which was why he was so goddamn irritated when he heard the low sound of voices in the middle of a walk through the woods behind the house that was supposed to be an opportunity for him to get some damn solitude for once. They were voices he recognized, unfortunately. He sighed heavily as soon as he got close enough to make out what they were saying.
“Harder, baby,” Billy practically moaned. “God that feels good.”
“Are you sure?” Steve asked a little breathlessly. “I don’t want to hurt you.”
“Yeah—ohhhhhh…” Billy’s confirmation devolved into an actual moan, and Hopper had had enough. He marched toward the voices, bursting into a clearing with his brow furrowed and an admonition on the tip of his tongue.
The first thing he noticed was that they had chosen a beautiful spot—they were on a soft-looking picnic blanket in the middle of a pretty little meadow dotted with wildflowers. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the surrounding trees. The remains of a picnic were spread out in front of the two boys, next to an open picnic basket.
The second thing Hopper noticed was that he had maybe slightly misread the situation. Billy was sitting cross-legged on the blanket, tank top and cutoffs firmly in place, and Steve was kneeling behind him, also fully clothed. Billy’s head was tilted to one side, and Steve had his elbow pressed firmly into the muscle of Billy’s shoulder. Both boys were staring at him with wide eyes. They recovered at about the same time, and Hopper sighed inwardly as Steve cocked one eyebrow. Billy’s eyes sparkled with amusement as Steve spoke.
“You’re always so tight, B,” Steve said, completely deadpan, eyes locked on Hopper’s. Billy smirked and gave that same low moan again as Steve pushed down with his elbow.
“You get so deep, baby. Feels so good,” Billy said, and Hopper had seen some shit in his life. Had fought literal monsters. Had spent months in a Russian prison, most recently. He absolutely was not going to blush in front of these two dumbasses. He refused.
Instead, he sighed heavily, resisted the urge to murder them both, and turned around, making his way out of the clearing. Billy waited until he was almost, but not quite, out of earshot before he spoke again, and Hopper was pretty sure he did it on purpose.
“We’re actually fucking after this, though, right baby?” he asked, and Hopper, unfortunately, also heard Steve’s response.
“Course, B. That’s why there’s lube in the bottom of the picnic basket.”
“You think of everything, pretty boy. Best boyfriend ever.” Hopper was tempted to turn right back around to yell at them, except that Billy sounded genuinely happy. And that, Hopper would never admit to anyone but Joyce, was a thing that he thought Billy Hargrove deserved a lot more of. He did, however, pick up his pace, before he heard something—again—that would haunt him forever.

Look at you (alternate!)
Steve Harrington x Hopper! Reader
Tumblr media
Summary: ok But what if you Don't necessarily make it back to the mall to see el and steve with just a twisted ankle?
Warning: angst! Angst for days/ death!/probably Not good/ swearing?
~~~~~~~
You've had a very long and exhausting day with your father and joyce and  For a moment everything that had happened before felt like a fever dream, the fight between you and your dad, the mice Russian scientists, the weird man murray, who you vaguely remembered getting along with.
    It was all there but fuzzy kinda how your vision was right now. You could see your dad and joyce looking over you worriedly but there faces kept slipping in and out of focus and their voices were so so far away.
    You where certain it was a dream. "Y/n sweetie this is gonna hurt...Just Stay with us!" You blinked a few times really trying to register everything in your mind. Suddenly you let out a blood curdling scream, almost  snapping you out of your dizzy state.
  And instantly everything came back so quickly it hurt your head, almost as much as the pain in your side.
    You remembered arriving to the fair agreeing with joyce that you would stay with murray and alexie until the found everyone. You had stuck by alexie while murray went to grab food.
 Alexie had won a giant stuffed woody woodpecker doll and a smaller prize for yourself.
   You remembered how you both happily started making your way to Murray with prizes in hand.
Then you saw him, it was like he just appeared out of thin air. The Russian terminator, the one who beat the shit out of your dad at hawkin lab, the one who chased you from the house you found Alexie and now the one who was pulling out a gun ready to kill him.
   In a swift and sudden movement you put all your strength into pushing alexie out of the way, as soon as you did so you felt the bullet pierce your side.
Then everything went hazy the voices went distant and your vision blurred.
  Now You cried out in pain, tears starting to roll down your face.
   You felt Joyce's hand in your and instinctily squeezed down on it.
"Stop! Stop!"
"Hop! Stop it!" Hopper quickly stopped pushing his finger into your bullet wound in an attempt to fish it out.
   "If we can get her to the others we can keep her alive murray suggested.
"Is she going to make it?"
    You felt yourself be lifted off the ground into hoppers arms.
   "Dad?..."
"Yea?"
"I'm sorry for yelling at you...I know you love me and El both."
 He shook his head and quickly started making his way through the fair. "I know sweetie I'm sorry too...but right now I just need you to work on staying awake.Ok? We need to get you to the mall...they'll have stuff to help you I'm sure…" you nodded.
   Hopper sat in the back of the Todd father with you as joyce raced down the street, murray in the front and alexie on the other side of you.
"I wanna...I wanna see steve and...and El before i-"
   "Don't worry you're gonna see them...I promise and you aren't going to die…but in order to do that you need to stay awake ok? Please stay awake..." hopper wrapped his arms around you tightly. And despite everything being hazy you could see tears building in his eyes. And You somehow managed to wrap your arms around him.
  He could see you where dozing off.
"C'mon kid stay with me!" you lay your head back against the car door and look up at him. You could feel his hand press hard against your side causing you to whimper out.
    "Uh...remember...remember the time..where you had Steve over without me knowing? I came to check on you and you pushed him off the bed?"
   You chuckled half heartedly and breathless. "He...he fell so hard.. He sprained his wrist." you added.
 Joyce bit her lip, hearing the sadness in hoppers voice as he tried so desperately to keep you awake, she started driving a little bit faster. Everyone in the car was silent holding, very obviously on edge.
    "How about Halloween? Huh?" you smiled shutting your eyes. "You told el she couldn't go trick or treating...but I took her anyways...she was so happy and later that night...that night we watched Charlie Brown...and ate all our candy.." tears slipped down hoppers face. "Yea…You always did whatever it took to make people happy...and safe…I always told you not to be a hero...and that still never stopped you..."
 You hummed in response watching the stars pass over your head, even those where starting to blur, "how could it?...I for everything I know from you…"
       Suddenly the night sky was interrupted with hues of electric pink light.
    "We made it!"
Hopper quickly  lifted you up and raced you into the mall.
  "Hop?" You heard el's voice very faintly as the five of you ran into the mall. "Holy shit! Y/n!?"
   You looked up upon hearing Steve's voice. "Harrington?" Steve ran toward you right alongside eleven. You reached out to Steve with both arms and he was quick to take you into his just like hopper had you.
   "Y/n?" You looked at him half lidded. "God, look at you…" you reached your hand up to touch his bruised cheek. He chuckled feeling worried years build in his eyes too. "Look at me? Look at you…"
"Keep pressure on her side!" steve looked around  for a place to set you in order to do so.
  "Steve!" el pulled the both of you to the platform that surrounded the plants in the center of the mall. He pulled you onto it resting you between his legs, so your back was against him. He pressed his hand against your wound causing you to wince.
   "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." he kept his other arm securely wrapped around your shoulders. "It'll be ok…"
You rested your head against his shoulder. Closing your eyes.
"Y/n?..."
   "Yes, Steve?"
"I'm making sure you aren't dying." You chuckled followed by a cough.
El came up beside You taking your hand tears streaming down her face.
   "El...don't...Don't cry...I'll...I'll be…" You took a shaky breath. "I'll be ok...who's gonna take you to do things dad won't let you huh? Can't do that if I'm dead…"
You felt her jump up and hug you, you could feel her tears hitting your neck and shoulder. "El..please…" You hadn't cried until this point, you didn't want to worry your dad or Joyce. But seeing el crying like this broke you.
  "Bring her here!"
"Hop, she's lost a lot of blood do you think-"
   "It has too! It has to work, joyce! I am not going to lose one of my daughters."
Steve picked you up and carried you over to where they were setting up.
  After he laid you down you grabbed his hand. "Steve please..please Don't leave!"
   "Hey I'm not going anywhere."
You coughed out a sob. "Promise me that you'll take me on a trip? Somewhere nice? Just for a whole?"
 "Yea i...I Promise...where did you have in mind?"
You thought a moment as murray, joyce, johnathan and hopper all worked to help you. "Rus-" You grind your teeth in pain.
   "Russia might be nice?..." Steve laughed through his tears. And You squeezed his hand, not that he really minded or noticed, not in this particular moment anyways.
   " I love you Harrington."
"I love you too..." You cried out again squeezing his hand harder.
   "It's ok...almost over…" Steve tried his best to reassure but the look on murray and Joyce's face said otherwise.
   Robin sat next steve, and despite not really knowing you as much as she liked her eyes where red and puffy matching everyone in the room, the room was not quite enough to hear a pin drop or anything like that because instead it was filled with hushed murmurs from friends whispering things about what had happened, and choking sobs from every direction you looked.
El was still sitting over you her body shaking with ever sob she let out. Hopper sat next to her and pulled her into his arms.
     Steve was curled up his knees brought to his chest and his head hidden inside.  "Hey…" there was a beat of silents. Robin was convinced That he wasn't going to say anything.
   "That was...that was the first time...the first time we said to each other... and in all the times I imagined it...I never once thought it would be the last time too…" Robin looked down defeated by his words. "And I promised her...I would take her away from here so many times...before I got this stupid job, before we finished school, I always told her we would run away from Hawkens...leave it all behind and start new in some foreign and new place...I promised her!"
   "Steve…"  he tucked his head back onto his knees his body shaking with sobs. She didnt say anything else she just sat next to him in scilents letting her own tears fall.
   "Harrington…" He looked up again to see hopper standing there looking worse than he had. "Here I think...I think she'd want you to have this.." hopper tossed him something before sitting down.
   Steve caught it and examined it. "Her necklace?..."
   "It's not just a necklace, shit head...just open it."
Steve did as he was told and piped it open finding the insides to have two pictures. One being him and you, it made him smile he remembered that day. Hopper was out and you had him come over to watch a movie, but instead You two had ended up laying on the floor just talking, he asked about different things in your room and you happily explained the story behind them, before finally getting up and grabbing your camera and laying back in your spot on the floor.
   He had begged you not to take that picture but you did, it was slightly fuzzy but just clear enough to make out what was happening.
   You had your face turned to him and his to you as he attempted to push you away. You where both so happy there.
   "I remember she told me it was awful...I can't believe she kept it.."
   "Yea that was taken...the day after I brought el home…" it was a silly picture, you and el where looking behind You as hopper angrily looked at them ready to take the camera from them.
  "I think you should have it…"
Hopper shook his head. "I have plenty to remember her by…"
Steve nodded looking at the picture letting another tear fall onto it.
far too young to die (4/???)
a/n: another part for you guys!! we dive right into season 3 content here, but i am trying to spice it up a bit, and make it unique. i don’t just want to rewrite scenes and pop the reader in there, i want to make it more dynamic, like you were made to be in it. i hope you guys enjoy!
relationship: steve harrington x reader
word count: 931
summary: you just wanted to keep your job at the starcourt mall movie theater. all you had to do was find out how these kids were sneaking into the movies without coming in the front door. your small little movie theater conspiracy ends up pulling you into something a lot bigger, and a lot scarier.
part one / part two / part three
chapter four: need to know
That was it, you were done. You thought that maybe, just maybe, he was done letting them in. But no, of course not. He had to sneak them into Day of the Dead. Your manager had said that the movie was going to be the biggest seller yet for the theater, and the kids had gotten in, again. And you hadn’t spotted them until they were on their way out.
-
It was your turn to clean the theater, according the coin flip you and Jen had done earlier. You waited as everyone piled out of the theater, when you spotted them. They walked past you, but you reached your hand out, grabbing the tallest boy’s arm. “Hey!”
“Shit,” he muttered, giving you a glare.
“You need to stop doing what you’re doing, alright? If I see you assholes sneak in again, I’ll ban you for the rest of your existence.”
“Yeah, sure.” God, you hated kids. You reluctantly let go of his arm, catching eyes of the rest of the group.
“That goes for all of you!” They all ran out of the theater laughing, and you rolled your eyes.
-
So, there you were, storming from the theater to the food court of the mall. The mall itself was closed, but you had access to the same back hallways that Steve did, which put you right where you needed to be. As you came up on Scoops, you noticed three people outside.
The teen stopped, looking up. “Uh…”
“I swear, I am going to kick your – and your kids’ – asses, all the way to next Tuesday!” Steve stood up from locking the gate to the shop, hands help up by his head.
“Who the hell is she?” The boy that joined the two ice cream slingers blurted, bringing your gaze to him. He didn’t look familiar, and you definitely didn’t see him with the group the previous day.
“How many kids do you have,” you grumbled. Shaking your head, you whirled back to Steve. “Look, asshat, I’m only going to tell you this once. Letting those kids sneak in through the back is getting me in trouble with my manager.” You take a step closer, poking a finger into his chest, “I’ve given you the chance to stop, really, I have. But then you just had to do it again. If I’m going down, you’re going down with me.” You were up in his face at this point, Steve’s eyes wide with something that you could almost say was fear.
A familiar cackle came from the girl – you’re pretty sure you recognized her from school – that was also wearing a Scoops uniform, “This is so much better than Russian conspiracy theories.”
You paused, turning to look at her, “Did you say Russian conspiracy theories?” Your voice had lost all venom, instead filling with curiosity.
The curly haired kid with the hat shook his head, “That’s need to know, Robin.”
You barely gave Steve another glance, backing away from him to look at the youngest one there, “No, you see, I need to know.” You pointed at Steve, “And if I don’t get to know, I’m gonna rat him out, which means no more ice cream fun time for you.”
“Dustin, just tell her,” Steve pleaded, causing you to grin.
“Yes, Dustin, tell me.”
“Alright, alright! I intercepted a secret Russian message from my Cerebro, and Robin translated it because she’s good with languages, turns out it’s probably coded!” Dustin exclaimed.
Your smile grew even bigger than before, and you rubbed your hands together, “I’m in.”
“What?!” The three of them questioned.
A shrug, “I love coded messages almost as much as I love conspiracy theories. And since this is a conspiracy theory involving a coded message, this is the best thing that’s happened all summer. So, to save Harrington’s ass from getting fired, you’re going to let me help.”
“You’re blackmailing us to let you help us decode the message?” Robin stared at you like you were crazy.
“I mean, yeah. How does that sound, Harrington?” You go to look back at Steve, only to find him stopped in front of a mechanical horse ride. “Harrington?”
“Do any of you have a quarter?” You went to make a joke, but he just kept yelling for a quarter. Robin pulled one out of her bag, handing it to him. The ride started to play, the four of you watching as the music started.
“I’m confused,” you uttered.
“The music!” Dustin knelt down to grab a recorder from his bag, pressing play. The same music started to play as a man speaking Russian talked over it. You all discussed how there was no way that the message had come from Russia, but it had come from right there, in Hawkins. Dustin had mentioned something about Steve picking him up and taking him to work with the teen tomorrow, so they could continue the hunt for as Dustin said, “Evil Russians.”
“Okay, I’m coming too.” The three of them stared at you, causing you to groan, “I have tomorrow off, therefore, I will be at Scoops when it opens so we can find these Russian douchebags. They have to be up to something bad, right? Their message wouldn’t be coded if it wasn’t. You guys can give me the full rundown then. I’ll even grab coffee.”
“You went from threatening me, to wanting to help?”
“I said your ass was still on the line, Harrington.”
A huff came from him, “Fine.”
You patted him on the shoulder, “Great, see you tomorrow, kids.”
Stranger Things Season Three Thoughts (SPOILERS)
I watched the first four episodes of ST3 with my cousin over a period of two nights, then binge-watched the final four today. Some assembled thoughts:
-sadly, I knew from spoilers from news articles on my phone (which I literally couldn’t avoid because I can’t take them off my screen, which pissed me off, so thanks Buzzfeed and other online magazines) that someone was going to die and found out in between the first four and the last four that Robin was gay. I’m thrilled Robin is lesbian, but irritated that those scenes got ruined for me because magazines can’t keep spoilers out of their freaking article headlines.
-on a whole, season three was...pretty good. I’ll stand by that. However, I think I liked season 1 and 2 better. This season was clearly more about character development then action, which can be really great, but then when the side-plots and action scenes they used to fill the episodes between character development just felt really, really slow.
-they spent a lot of time on side characters (Ms Wheeler and all that lifeguard nonsense, the Mayor, random scenes of the carnival) that took time away from main characters story time, which I didn’t like
-literally every time I see Ms Wheeler and Billy interact I feel physically ill
-El and Max friendship is wonderful
-The kids are some of my favorite characters in this series, and I was sad that we really didn’t get to see them interact a lot as a group. Even when they were all in the same room, it was only when there was a lot of action. We saw the boys interact. We saw eleven and Max be friends. We saw the couples interact. But I would love more scenes like when they welcomed Dustin home, or odd pairings: Lucas and El doing target practice together, Will and Max kicking ass at video games, Dustin, Max and Will going to see a movie together via Steve. Just...we had to just kind of assume these kids are all friends instead of them really SHOWING it
-Then we had the Big Fight between Will, Lucas and Mike (with Dustin thrown in there at times) because...all they care about is their girlfriends now, which sucks and really isn’t healthy, and the whole episode showed that Will was still feeling out of place, like something more than the Mind Flayer changed. And then, for the rest of the season they just...forgot about Will? He suddenly barely had any lines, hardly interacted with anyone - and I don’t get why. It’s like they don’t know what to do with him when he isn’t possessed. The others have clear roles - Lucas the Prepared Ranger, Mike the Leading Paladin, Eleven the Mage, Max the Healer/Cleric, Dustin the Rogue/Bard, Nancy and Johnathan the Detectives, but with Will, they just...left him there. Which was very frustrating
-I loved The Scoops team (though Erica got on my nerves a little at times) but I wish Dustin had been able to interact more with the other kids. I get they were fighting, but some occasional radio contact would have been nice. The duo of him and Steve is great, no argument, but not at the total expense of him with his buddies.
-I’ve known Billy was doomed since I heard his name (people with “B” don’t last long in this show) and honestly? I really don’t care that he’s dead. I feel bad for Max, who had to witness it. I understand that Billy was abused by his father, and had hard prepubescent and teenage years. But Billy also abused and terrorized people, and Season 3 did not show that he had changed. It was not his sole fault he became an abuser and a bully, but he is not absolved of his actions. Also, it would have been bullshit if Billy survived when every other person the mind flayer got was killed off.
--Hawkins as a town has GOT to be suspicious of what is going on
--Robin a wonderful and I love her
--Erica as a math genius!
--The latter half of this season had some steller Nancy-Mike interactions, which I had missed in season two and the first part of season 3. I’m glad the Duffers finally remembered they’re related
--Hopper had some serious temper problems this season that had me very wary of him as a character
-I know a lot of people are angry because of Erica’s capitalism (which...she’s ten. It’s the 80′s. She’s repeating what she has heard her father and the news say.) and the whole coke thing and the evil Russians but I really am just too tired of fans to care about it. The first two seasons had evil Americans. Hell so did this season. Russia and America were locked in an arms race. I never cared about Coke to begin with. Let me just enjoy the show.
-I liked that they had to take lengths to split the groups up in this season. Scoop Troop was out of range underground. Hopper and Joyce were on the run. Nancy and Johnathan did manage to get a hold of the kids. My thoughts when Will realized the Mind Flayer was back while Joyce was learning magnets don’t work and Nancy discover rats were rabid was “now, given all the crazy shit that happened the last two years, why wouldn’t they immediately get the whole gang together to solve this more quickly. They know how this works by now.” And there was a reason that they, for the most part, couldn’t do that.
-I understand this is the 80s and summertime, and it’s explained the Wheelers just...don’t keep up with their kids (again, your kids were both caught up in some sort of government stuff less then two years ago. WHY aren’t you keeping up with them?) but Erica says that her mom would be keeping tabs on her (at least, if not her and Lucas) and Dustin JUST got home, surely his mom is trying to spend time with him? They were 100 percent gone for over 24 hours from their homes, every one of them. Why were the Hendersons and Sinclairs not looking?
-Hopper ain’t dead. No body, the American at the end, and also I just don’t buy it. He’s coming back.
-Why the FUCK would Joyce move her kids away at this point? I get she doesn’t want anything else bad to happen but...her kids were traumatized and also they developed a support system out of the friends that shared that trauma, or at least witnessed it. There is NOWHERE that she can move to where El and Will could find the support that their friends would give them.
-That being said, I hope this means we get awesome siblings El and Will next season, when the Byers move back to Hawkins. Because that is happening damn it.
-Stop killing off Joyce’s love interests. Let her be happy
-Joyce’s house survived the season (probably to let her sell it) and while I kind of wish it was destroyed so she couldn’t move - which is what I thought would happen - I’m kind of glad for the house.
-I kind of wanted to see the kids in high school - like, taking down bullies by using language and techniques both from their dnd games and their upside down adventures. Nancy and Johnathan setting straight any kid that dared mess with their little siblings. Steve giving advice to all of his children, but especially Dustin. Max joining the Basketball team.
-JUST LET THEM PLAY DND
-I know most people probably loved the inclusion of the Paranoid guy who could speak Russian being back, but honestly I found most of his scenes unnecessary. I kind of liked him in Season 2, with Johnathan and Nancy, but he just irritated me this season.
-Lucas and Will’s little smirks when Mike said he loved El were adorable
-Actually, there were a lot of good little Will and Lucas friendship moments this season
-I felt there was a lot of focus on Hopper and Joyce’s storyline, at the expense of the other two/three or “kids storylines” and I wish they hadn’t. For one, their storyline was very straightforward - it wasn’t so much a “mystery to solve” as it was a “outrun the enemy” storyline, and it took away from time they could have given to showing the kids interacting and developing.
-the COLORS this season I really did love all the cinematography
-is there any explanation for the green acidic goo?
-Detective Byers. I love it. Make it happen.
-how did the mindflayer get in El’s leg? Is it after her because she...opened it? Because it want’s her powers? Is it going to go after Will at all?
-no one found how quickly this Mall went up to be suspicious at all? It’s been like...8 months since the scientists got booted out.
-Can Steve, Nancy and Johnathan PLEASE interact?
-Nancy and Robin for the next female bffs please
-I love how Robin tried to be all “Nancy Wheeler is a Priss” and Steve Harrington, who has seen Nancy Wheeler, certifiable badass, fight monsters and take down governments, is like “no, no she really is NOT.”
--Not only did Stranger Things kill a LOT of people this season, they had their characters kill as well. While none of the kids did (thank god) both Nancy and Johnathan killed in self defence at the hospital. Hopper killed (though that isn’t super unusual) and Joyce was 100 percent prepared to kill. Steve (after finally winning a fight) was tortured. That’s a great deal of trauma for the older set to go through, on top of everything else, and I wish they would acknowledge it.
-look I just need all the fanfics now of all the kids/older teens interacting and being friends in middle and high school.
