Lincolnshire Tile Doctor Visits Wragby to Renovate Multiple Slate Floors
This client from Wragby contacted me because their Slate tiled shower room floor was covered in limescale and despite trying numerous products they couldn’t get rid of it. Also, for some reason the slate kitchen floor was always sticky, and they wanted this resolving as well. If you haven’t been, Wragby is just East of Lincoln on route to the Lincolnshire Wolds which is an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Tumblr media
I went over to the property to survey the tiles and produce a quote for rectifying the problems. I discovered that the Kitchen floor had been over sealed with a solvent based topical seal and that had turned tacky, and in the shower room it wasn’t limescale that was the issue, in fact it was a moisture problem that had bloomed the seal. The tiles needed to be completely dry before applying a sealer or it can cause problems, also because the dining room followed from the kitchen it would need to be stripped as well of sealer and resealed otherwise the two floors would look different in colour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I quoted for stripping and cleaning all three floors, and then re-sealing. The quote was accepted, and the job was booked in for a few weeks later.
Cleaning a Slate Tiled Kitchen, Dining and Shower Room Floor
To remove the sealer, I used a combination of Tile Doctor Remove and Go mixed with Tile Doctor Pro Clean. This was applied to the floor in the usual way, allowing it to soak in for ten minutes before being scrubbed in with a Black pad. This action removes the old sealer and further cleaned the floor.
The soiling was then rinsed away with water and extracted with a wet vacuum. A couple of the areas were more stubborn that others, so the process was repeated until I was satisfied the sealer was gone and the Slate was as clean.
Tumblr media
I setup a couple of air blowers in place to assist with drying and then left the floor to dry out fully overnight.
Sealing a Slate Tiled Kitchen, Dining and Shower Room Floor
Returning the following day, I used a damp meter to take moisture readings and ensure the stone was dry before applying the new sealer, as mentioned earlier it is not a good idea to seal a wet floor.
My client wanted a shine on the floor so for the Kitchen and Dining room I used a topical water-based sealer called Tile Doctor Seal and Go Extra. For the shower floor I explained that due to the moisture it would have to be sealed with a fully breathable impregnating sealer however it would leave a matt finish, they didn’t want a repeat of before so happy to accept my recommendation the shower room floor was sealed with Tile Doctor Colour Grow.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The whole process took 3 days, and all the floors were transformed by the work, certainly my clients were extremely happy with the result. For the aftercare cleaning of Slate floors, I recommend the use of Tile Doctor Neutral Tile Cleaner which an effective tile and grout cleaner but gentle enough not to effect the sealer.

Natural Stone Carpet Cleaning
Natural stone carpets are a unique and stylish flooring option, blending the beauty of natural stone with the comfort of carpeting. Made from small stones like quartz, marble, or river rock, these carpets are embedded in a resin matrix, creating a textured, durable, and aesthetically pleasing surface. Stone carpets are commonly used in both indoor and outdoor settings, and they add a touch of elegance to any space. However, cleaning and maintaining a natural stone carpet requires special care to preserve its appearance and prevent damage. In this guide, we will cover the best practices for cleaning natural stone carpets, including daily maintenance, deep cleaning, and stain removal.
Understanding Natural Stone Carpets
Natural stone carpets, unlike traditional carpets, are made up of natural pebbles or small stones bound together by resin. This structure gives them a unique, porous texture, which requires careful cleaning to avoid dirt buildup or damage to the resin. The porous nature of the stone carpet means it can trap dirt and grime more easily than other types of flooring, making regular maintenance essential.
Daily Maintenance for Natural Stone Carpets
Regular cleaning is the key to keeping natural stone carpets looking fresh and free from debris. Daily maintenance helps prevent dirt and dust from settling into the porous surface.
Vacuuming Vacuuming is one of the most effective methods for daily cleaning of natural stone carpets. Use a vacuum cleaner with a soft-bristle attachment or a brush roller specifically designed for delicate surfaces. Regular vacuuming helps remove loose dirt and particles from the carpet’s textured surface, preventing them from becoming embedded in the stone and resin. Vacuum high-traffic areas daily and other areas as needed to maintain cleanliness.
Sweeping or Dry Mopping In addition to vacuuming, sweeping or dry mopping can help pick up surface debris and dust. A soft-bristle broom or a microfiber mop is ideal for this purpose. These tools are gentle on the surface of the natural stone, ensuring that the resin doesn’t get scratched or damaged. Dry mopping can be particularly useful for removing fine dust and particles that vacuuming may miss.
Spot Cleaning Spills If spills occur, it’s important to clean them up immediately to prevent stains from setting into the stone. For small spills, use a damp cloth to gently blot the area. Avoid rubbing the spill, as this can push it deeper into the stone’s porous surface. For larger spills, use a mild detergent mixed with warm water, then blot the area gently and rinse with clean water.
Weekly or Routine Cleaning for Natural Stone Carpets
In addition to daily maintenance, natural stone carpets should undergo a more thorough cleaning on a weekly basis, especially in areas with heavy foot traffic.
Damp Mopping To clean the surface more deeply, damp mop the natural stone carpet using a soft microfiber mop and a mild, pH-neutral cleaner. It’s important to avoid harsh chemical cleaners, as they can damage both the resin and the natural stones. Avoid soaking the carpet with water, as excessive moisture can penetrate the resin and affect the stone bed.
Rinsing After cleaning with a damp mop, rinse the area with clean water to remove any soap residue that may have been left behind. Leftover residue can cause the stone to look dull and may attract more dirt over time. Ensure the floor is thoroughly rinsed to maintain its natural luster.
Deep Cleaning Natural Stone Carpets
Despite regular maintenance, natural stone carpets will occasionally need deep cleaning, particularly in areas that are heavily used or exposed to outdoor elements. Deep cleaning helps restore the carpet’s natural beauty and remove embedded dirt.
Use a Specialized Stone Cleaner For deep cleaning, use a cleaner specifically formulated for natural stone surfaces. These cleaners are designed to remove dirt and grime without damaging the stone or resin. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the best results. Always test the cleaner on a small, inconspicuous area before applying it to the entire carpet to ensure it won’t cause any discoloration.
Brush Cleaning For more thorough cleaning, use a soft-bristle brush or a scrubbing pad to gently work the cleaning solution into the textured surface. Be sure to scrub gently to avoid damaging the resin or scratching the stones. After scrubbing, rinse the area with clean water to remove any cleaning solution.
Stain Removal for Natural Stone Carpets
Because of the porous nature of stone, stains can sometimes penetrate deep into the surface. Here's how to handle common stains on natural stone carpets:
Grease or Oil Stains For grease or oil stains, apply a poultice made of baking soda and water to the stained area. Let the mixture sit for several hours or overnight to draw the oil out of the stone. Then, scrub gently with a soft brush and rinse with water.
Wine or Coffee Stains If liquids like wine or coffee spill on the carpet, blot the area immediately to remove excess moisture. Use a mild soap and warm water mixture to gently clean the stain, then rinse thoroughly.
Cleaning and maintaining natural stone carpets requires a delicate approach, but with the right care, you can preserve their unique beauty for years to come. By incorporating daily vacuuming, routine mopping, and occasional deep cleaning, you can keep your natural stone carpet free of dirt and grime. Spot cleaning spills immediately and using the right cleaning products will help prevent stains and ensure that the natural stones retain their vibrant, polished appearance.

Carpet Cleaning: A Vital Step for Allergy Relief in Carlsbad
Carpets, while adding warmth and comfort to your home, can also become breeding grounds for allergens. Dust mites, pet dander, mold spores, and other irritants can accumulate in carpet fibers, triggering allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. This is especially true in Carlsbad, a coastal city with a humid climate that can contribute to the growth of allergens.
Why Carpet Cleaning is Crucial for Allergy Sufferers
Dust Mite Reduction: Dust mites, microscopic creatures that feed on dead skin cells, are a common allergen. Carpets provide a cozy environment for these mites to thrive. Regular carpet cleaning can significantly reduce their population, alleviating allergy symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes.
Pet Dander Removal: Pet dander, tiny flakes of skin shed by animals, is another major allergen. Pets often spend time on carpets, leaving behind dander. Professional carpet cleaning can effectively remove pet dander, making your home more comfortable for those with pet allergies.
Mold Spore Elimination: Mold spores can grow in damp areas of your carpet, especially if there's water damage or poor ventilation. These spores can trigger allergic reactions and respiratory problems. Carpet cleaning can help eliminate mold spores, improving indoor air quality and reducing the risk of health issues.
Removal of Other Allergens: Besides dust mites, pet dander, and mold, carpets can also accumulate other allergens such as pollen, dust particles, and food crumbs. Regular cleaning can help remove these irritants, providing relief for allergy sufferers.
Improved Indoor Air Quality: Clean carpets contribute to better indoor air quality. By removing allergens and pollutants from your carpet, you can create a healthier and more comfortable living environment.
Professional Carpet Cleaning: The Best Approach
While you can attempt to clean your carpets yourself, professional carpet cleaning offers several advantages:
Specialized Equipment: Professional cleaners use specialized equipment and cleaning solutions that are designed to remove deep-seated dirt, allergens, and stains.
Expertise: Carpet cleaning professionals have the knowledge and experience to identify and address specific allergy concerns.
Thoroughness: Professional cleaners can reach areas that are difficult to clean on your own, ensuring a thorough cleaning.
Efficiency: Professional carpet cleaning can be completed quickly and efficiently, minimizing disruption to your daily routine.
Tips for Maintaining a Clean and Allergy-Free Carpet
Vacuum regularly: Vacuum your carpets at least twice a week to remove surface dirt and allergens.
Clean up spills promptly: Clean up spills immediately to prevent stains and mold growth.
Avoid excessive moisture: Try to keep your carpets dry to discourage mold growth.
Consider using allergen-proof covers: For mattresses and pillows, allergen-proof covers can help prevent dust mites from entering.
By prioritizing carpet cleaning and taking additional steps to maintain a clean and allergen-free environment, you can significantly improve your quality of life and reduce allergy symptoms in Carlsbad.

How to Prepare Your Home for a Professional Carpet Cleaning Service
Scheduling a professional carpet cleaning service is an excellent way to rejuvenate your home, eliminate deep-seated dirt, and extend the life of your carpets. However, to ensure that the process goes smoothly and effectively, a bit of preparation on your part is necessary. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to prepare your home for a professional carpet cleaning service.
1. Clear the Area
The first and most important step in preparing for carpet cleaning is to clear the area of any furniture, personal items, and breakables. While most carpet cleaning companies will move light furniture for you, it’s a good idea to move any fragile or valuable items yourself. This includes lamps, vases, electronics, and small pieces of furniture like side tables and chairs.
If you have heavy furniture like sofas or beds, consider moving them to a non-carpeted area or ask your carpet cleaning service if they offer furniture moving as part of their service. Clearing the space allows the cleaners to reach every corner of the carpet, ensuring a thorough cleaning.
2. Vacuum Thoroughly
While professional carpet cleaners use powerful equipment to deep clean your carpets, it’s helpful to vacuum beforehand. Vacuuming removes surface dirt, dust, and debris, allowing the cleaning service to focus on the more ingrained dirt that requires deep cleaning.
A thorough vacuuming also helps lift the carpet fibers, making it easier for the cleaning equipment to reach deep into the pile. Pay special attention to high-traffic areas and spots where dirt tends to accumulate, such as entryways and hallways.
3. Remove or Secure Breakable Items
If you have any fragile items, such as decorative pieces or picture frames on the walls, it’s a good idea to remove them before the carpet cleaners arrive. The movement of equipment, hoses, and cleaning solutions can sometimes cause vibrations that might accidentally knock items over.
Additionally, secure any delicate items that cannot be moved, such as ceiling fixtures or hanging plants, to prevent any accidental damage during the cleaning process.
4. Make a Note of Problem Areas
Before the carpet cleaning service arrives, take a walk around your home and make a note of any specific areas that need special attention. This could include stains, high-traffic areas, or spots where the carpet looks worn or discolored. Pointing these out to the cleaning professionals will help them tailor their approach to your home’s specific needs.
Additionally, if you know the origin of any stains (such as wine, pet accidents, or coffee), let the cleaners know. Different types of stains require different treatments, and providing this information can help ensure the best results.
5. Plan for Pets and Children
If you have pets or young children, it’s a good idea to make arrangements for them on the day of the cleaning. Carpet cleaning equipment can be noisy and potentially frightening for pets, and the cleaning process may involve the use of chemicals that are not safe for small children or animals to be around until the carpet is fully dry.
Consider keeping pets in a separate room, outdoors, or at a friend’s house during the cleaning. Likewise, arrange for children to be occupied elsewhere in the house or take them out for a few hours until the process is complete.
6. Provide Access and Clear Instructions
Ensure that the carpet cleaning team has easy access to your home. Clear any obstacles from entryways and provide clear instructions on where they can park their vehicle, especially if their equipment requires close proximity to the house.
If you won’t be home during the cleaning, provide the team with any necessary information, such as alarm codes or specific instructions for accessing certain areas of the home.
7. Pre-Treat Stains (Optional)
Some homeowners prefer to pre-treat stains before the professionals arrive, especially if they are concerned about particularly stubborn spots. If you choose to do this, use a mild carpet cleaner and follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. However, many professional services will handle pre-treatment as part of their process, so this step is optional.
Conclusion
Preparing your home for a professional carpet cleaning service ensures that the cleaning process is efficient, effective, and stress-free. By clearing the area, vacuuming, securing fragile items, and planning for pets and children, you can help the cleaning team do their best work. Following these steps will not only protect your belongings but also ensure that your carpets come out looking fresh, clean, and revitalized.

it was too much i had to make my own post
Tumblr media
line cook here. ACCURATE
if you don't get the hate, here's what you don't understand.
it takes up to 2 hours to close down the kitchen.
The last 60-90 minutes before closing time you do almost no cooking because the restaurant doesn't have many people in it and you've already cooked most of their diners.
So if someone walks in during, like, the last hour, the cook is in the middle of an industrial deep clean of the kitchen.
(these numbers can vary quite a bit from place to place but i have worked several restaurants with these actual times and the concept remains the same)
Say the place closes at 10. If you wait til the restaurant is already closed to start all your cleaning duties, you'll be there until at least midnight.
More than that your boss knows that on an average night you can start your clean up as soon as the last rush ends and get out of there around 10:45, even 10:15 on a slow night if you get lucky. That means there are plenty of restaurants where if you do take until midnight the manager is going to come up to you at some point that week and ask you what went wrong that night, and you'd better have an answer.
So this example restaurant closes at 10 pm. The dinner rush ends around 8:30, and shortly after that the cook is going to start getting every single dish possible over to the dishwasher because the dishwasher always gets hit hard and late, and the machine runs for 2 full minutes and only holds so many dishes, so the way that works out is if you wait an extra 30 minutes to give the dishwasher all your stuff it can mean adding like 60 minutes to the end of his shift. And you're gonna KEEP finding shit to send to the dishpit right up until you leave probably.
all these little square and rectangle containers in this cold table have to be pulled out and changed over into new containers, replaced by new full ones, or in some cases filled from larger containers in the back, which can result in even more empty containers to send to the dishwasher.
Tumblr media
while it's all pulled apart to do this, you have to clean up all the spilled food and sauce and juices and stuff from the joints and ledges and shelves and drip trays
Once you get your line changed over in this way, and fully stocked, anytime someone orders something that makes use of a bunch of that stuff, you have to restock and re-clean it some. It might already be covered in plastic. Some of it might already be stuck in the back to make room to take apart your cutting board counter to clean. To cook a dish isn't TOO much of a problem at this point, but you're really hoping for zero orders because you still have so much other cleaning to do.
Meanwhile the salad bar and appetizer section and server station and everybody are all doing the same thing. Even the bartenders are stocking olives and lemons and sending back whisks and stir spoons and shakers and empty 4quart storage containers that used to hold the back-up lemons and olives and things. Every section is dumping their must-be-cleaneds to the dishpit as fast as possible because early and fast is the only thing they can do to to help that dishpit not absolutely drown into overtime.
The poor dishwasher is always the last to clock out, soaking wet and exhausted.
Around this time you probably scrub the flat top, which has turned black from cooked on grease and is still about 500 degrees. Line cooks are divided in opinion on water-based or oil based cleaning methods for this, but they all involve scrubbing with (usually) a brick of pumice stone using every ounce of your strength while you try not to burn yourself
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you scrub it from fully blackened to gleaming silver and now if somebody orders something that needs the flat top to cook, you can either fuck up your cleaning job or fake it in a couple frying pans and pass that tiny fuck you down to your dishwasher (who usually understands, especially if you help them take the garbage out or clean your own floor drain later)
If there's deep fried stuff on the menu then the fryers have to be cleaned out, which includes straining the oil out into enormous and super-heavy pots full of oil so hot that if you spill on yourself then it's probably a hospital visit and if you slip and fall face first into it it'll be the last thing you ever do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then you gotta scrub out the fryer. Like you gotta take the (hot) screen out and reach your arm down into the weird rounded pipes and curved areas (so hot, burn you if you brush against them hot) and scrub off whatever is down there
Tumblr media
Depending on your kitchen you might have to do up to four of these. Then you'll have to pour the (dangerously hot) oil back in
oh, and if you didn't dry the pipes and get ALL the water out of the trap and tank?
water reacts with hot oil in a sort of mentos and coke way that can send a tidal wave of oil past the open flame of the pilot light ...HUGE dangerous mess and/or burn down the kitchen if the oil lights up.
Tumblr media
Unless! If the oil has been used too hard and needs to be changed, it's time to carry those open topped super heavy pots full of will-kill-you-hot oil and dump them in the barrel outside by the dumpsters so you can put room temp fresh oil in the fryers. whew!
The clean up is not just some light wiping down that can be easily interrupted, is what i'm saying.
You might have to do some kind of walk-in duty (moving around 50lb cases of lettuce and 50lb bags of onions to get to the stacks of five gallon buckets full of salad dressings and sauces to move so you can reach the giant metal pots and bus tubs full of prep and get it all organized and make sure it's all labeled and i have to stop now i'm having flashbacks)
THE POINT IS
by 15 or however many minutes to close, the line cook is doing an intense deep clean and probably has the whole stove taken apart to detail.
For some industrial stoves this means lifting off large cast iron plates that weigh like 20 lbs each and are still quite hot. Whatever metal burners are on there, you gotta take off and clean, you can see here the lines that indicate the large thick cast iron rectangles that sit on top of the burners to allow heavy pots to rest on. Those five (each has one front burner hole and one back burner hole, see?) have to be lifted off and cleaned with soap and a wire brush usually, and then the underneath area also has to be cleaned because a lot of shit falls through the burner holes on a busy night.
Tumblr media
if you didn't do it when you did the flat top you have to do the grease trap (which can be like a full five minutes and is always disgusting).. You gotta clean out all the little gas jets in each burner with a wire or something so the burners all flame evenly, and sometimes you have to remove some of the natural gas piping that connects the burners to access where you have to clean.
you gotta clean out the bottom of the oven and the wire racks, and, oh gods, you gotta take down the filter vents from the hood fans above the stove.
See all the lined parts along the top of the wall?
Tumblr media
those are hood vents, and as they pull air up they also pull a lot of grease and they have to be taken down and cleaned, then you gotta climb up there and scrub where they go before you put them back...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then there's the mopping and floor drains and...
Anyway, that's what the line cook is doing when you walk in fifteen minutes before closing and order something that needs to be cooked on that stove. They are doing an entire industrial cleaning of a professional kitchen.
In some restaurants maybe one or two of these jobs will be every other night or even only twice a week, but in many, possibly most kitchens, ALL of these things happen EVERY night. You don't want to leave any food mess that might attract insects or rodents for one thing, so a really good kitchen is as close to brand new as you can get it every night.
IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO ORDER SOMETHING ANYWAY, HERE IS WHAT TO DO
open with an apology and ask the server to go ask what the cook would prefer you to order.
Any good server will already know what the cook is hoping for and what will make their line cook go into the walk in and scream. If it's significantly less than an hour to close and they say some variant of "oh anything is fine" they are either telling the lie their boss wants them to say, or they actually do not know what their line cook wants, and you can either use human connection and a conspiratorial just-between-us tone to get them to drop the customer-is-always-right act, or get them to actually go ask the cook.
It might be as specific as "the lasagna is easiest on the kitchen" or it might be a simple guideline like "nothing that requires the flat top" or "any of the sautés are easy" but a good line cook will probably have a system for if they have to make a couple of the most popular items after they start their close, so the answer is likely to include something most people like and you should be good to order that.
but for the love of all that's holy, please only do so at great need. Leave that last 30-60 minutes to the truly desperate and the crew's duties.

The Importance of Steam Cleaning for Carpets in Murrieta
Maintaining clean carpets is essential not only for aesthetic reasons but also for the health and well-being of your family. In Murrieta, where dust and allergens can accumulate rapidly, steam cleaning emerges as a highly effective method to ensure your carpets are not only clean but also sanitized. Here’s why steam cleaning should be a priority for every Murrieta homeowner.
1. Thorough Removal of Dirt and Allergens
Murrieta's climate can contribute to the rapid accumulation of dust, pollen, and other allergens within carpets. Regular vacuuming helps, but it often fails to reach deep-seated dirt and microbes. Steam cleaning, on the other hand, penetrates deep into the carpet fibers, loosening dirt and debris that vacuuming alone cannot remove. This process not only improves the appearance of carpets but also enhances indoor air quality, making it especially beneficial for those prone to allergies or respiratory issues.
2. Effective Stain Removal
Spills and stains are inevitable in any household, especially with pets or children. Steam cleaning uses high-temperature water vapor to break down stains and lift them from the carpet fibers effectively. Unlike chemical-based cleaners that may leave residues or damage fibers, steam cleaning is gentle yet powerful, preserving the carpet's integrity while ensuring a thorough clean.
3. Elimination of Harmful Microorganisms
Beyond visible dirt and stains, carpets can harbor bacteria, mold, and mildew, particularly in humid climates like Murrieta's. Steam cleaning not only removes these microorganisms but also kills them, thanks to the high temperatures involved. This sanitizing effect is crucial for maintaining a healthy home environment, reducing the risk of illnesses and allergies caused by microbial contaminants.
4. Prolongs Carpet Lifespan
Investing in professional steam cleaning periodically can significantly extend the lifespan of your carpets. By removing ingrained dirt and preventing the buildup of damaging particles, steam cleaning helps carpets retain their color, texture, and structural integrity over time. This preservation not only enhances the aesthetics of your home but also saves money in the long run by reducing the frequency of carpet replacement.
5. Environmentally Friendly Option
In an era where sustainability is increasingly valued, steam cleaning stands out as an environmentally friendly carpet cleaning method. It minimizes the use of chemicals and relies primarily on heat and water, making it safer for both your family and the planet. Furthermore, steam cleaning consumes less water compared to traditional methods, contributing to water conservation efforts in Murrieta's semi-arid climate.
6. Compliance with Carpet Warranty
Many carpet manufacturers recommend or even require steam cleaning as part of their warranty conditions. Regular professional steam cleaning ensures that you comply with these guidelines, preserving your warranty coverage and safeguarding your investment in high-quality carpets.
Conclusion
In conclusion, steam cleaning is not just about appearance; it’s about ensuring a clean, healthy environment for your family in Murrieta. From eliminating allergens and stains to prolonging carpet life and supporting environmental sustainability, the benefits are clear. By choosing steam cleaning for your carpets, you’re not only investing in the longevity of your home’s flooring but also in the well-being of those who live there. Make steam cleaning a regular part of your home maintenance routine, and enjoy the comfort and cleanliness it brings to your Murrieta residence.

Birmingham Expert Reveals the Solution to Efflorescence Staining
A client from Great Barr in North Birmingham discovered a leak in a water pipe, which had been running in to the Quarry tiled living room for some time. The leak was repaired but had resulted in a lot of water soaking into the quarry tiles. This led to a significant amount of efflorescence appearing as the floor dried out leaving them in a poor condition.
Tumblr media
I paid a visit to the property to see the condition of the tiles for myself and conducted a few tests to work out the best method to remove the efflorescence and restore the appearance of the quarry tiles. From this I worked out a quote which was submitted to my client’s insurance company.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The job was then put on hold for a couple of months until the client’s insurance company agreed the claim. This as it turns out was not such a bad thing, as the floor needed time to dry out completely (aided with dehumidifiers) before work began.
Cleaning a Quarry Tiled Living Room Floor
On the first day I started by taking moisture readings from the floor, which were quite low, and confirmed the floor had indeed dried out. Next, I gave the floor a general clean using Tile Doctor Remove & Go, I used a strong dilution and sprayed it onto the floor allowing it to soak in for ten minutes. Then I went around the edges and corners with a piece of black scrubbing pad to get the awkward areas clean first. I then used a 120-grit carbide silicone pad fitted to a rotary machine to loosen up the dirt.
The floor was then rinsed with an air flex pro machine which applies water at high pressure to the floor and then simultaneously extracts the dislodged dirt with a built-in wet vacuum.
To deal with the efflorescence I applied Tile Doctor Grout Clean-up and worked it in with a 240-grit carbide pad as before. This product is acidic and is perfect for dissolving the alkaline salts that form efflorescence. The solution was then rinsed off and extracted as before, and I set up a couple of air movers to aid drying the floor, for a couple of hours.
Sealing a Quarry Tiled Living Room Floor
Before leaving for the day I applied a coat of Tile Doctor Stone Oil and let that soak in for twenty minutes before towelling off the excess, the floor was then let to dry off fully overnight, again I left a couple of air movers in place to assist with the drying.
The next day I applied two coats of Tile Doctor X-Tra Seal, leaving an hour between coats to dry. The Stone Oil and X-Tra Seal will give great protection going forward and give the quarry tiles a slight sheen which really lifts the appearance of the tiles. Another benefit of the sealer is it improves the colour of the tiles and being fully breathable it will allow moisture still in the floor to rise through and evaporate at the surface.

Finally, I buffed the Quarry tiles with a white pad to bring up their appearance even further. My client was very happy with what was a complete transformation to the floor and left the following review.Very helpful insurance repair. Visited whenever necessary to give advice and helped with ongoing maintenance suggestions.
Before leaving took time to discuss aftercare cleaning for which I left them with a complimentary bottle of Tile Doctor pH Neutral Tile Cleaner.
