Moody Metropolis 500T - Joker-Inspired Film Recipe For Fujifilm
Tumblr media
A dark and moody low light film recipe with a greenish hue, inspired by the Joker, suitable for all Fujifilm X-Series cameras. IvanYolo Mood: Joker Inspired, Dark, Moody, High Contrast, Low Light The recent release of the 2024 Joker film trailer captivated audiences with its compelling visuals, prompting me to channel this creative energy into developing a unique addition to my Fujifilm recipes. Inspired by the movie's dark, atmospheric tones, I set out to create the Moody Metropolis 500T—a one-of-a-kind film simulation with custom settings that mimic the aesthetic of the Joker movie. Based on the Classic Negative simulation, this recipe underwent numerous hours of meticulous fine-tuning. My explorations took me on night photo walks through the darkest corners of Kuala Lumpur, searching for ideal settings that embody the film’s moody essence. This guide delves into the Moody Metropolis 500T, discussing its development, settings, and how to capture evocative images that resonate with the somber and captivating aesthetic of its cinematic inspiration.
Background and Inspiration Of The Moody Metropolis 500T Film Recipe
Tumblr media
Fujifilm X-T4, SIRUI Sniper 23mm f1.2 - Kuala Lumpur, April 2024 The Moody Metropolis 500T film simulation recipe draws its inspiration from the gritty, urban atmosphere depicted in the 2024 Joker film. Set against a backdrop of societal decay and personal turmoil, the film uses a distinct color palette that emphasizes deep greens, muted ambers, and shadowy blacks. This visual style serves not only to heighten the emotional intensity of the narrative but also to evoke a sense of unease and contemplation.Fujifilm’s Classic Negative film simulation, the base for Moody Metropolis 500T, is itself modeled after the Superia film stock, known for its high contrast color reproduction and dynamic tonal range. By tweaking this simulation, the Moody Metropolis 500T aims to replicate the cinematic feel of celluloid film used in many classic movies, including the color grading styles typical of films shot on Kodak Vision3 500T (tungsten) film stock, which are known for their cooler, moodier undertones, and higher contrast. The Shadow and Color adjustment are left on default setting at 0 to avoid harsh shadow and color.Rather than opting for the Eterna/Cinema (used for the Teal Obscura), I chose the Classic Negative for its enhanced tonal range, which truly delivers a more dynamic visual impact. This decision has proven to be highly effective, as it does not disappoint in bringing out rich, vivid details in the images.
Achieve Dark & Moody Cinematic Street Photography
The Moody Metropolis 500T excels in street photography, where its ability to render complex lighting and urban textures can be fully utilized. Photographs taken with this recipe often showcase a dramatic interplay between light and shadow, highlighting the isolating and sometimes melancholic atmosphere of urban environments. The Moody Metropolis 500T is best used in low-light conditions by leveraging higher ISO settings, it allows photographers to capture detailed scenes even in dimly lit environments, without a substantial loss of image quality. This makes it an ideal choice for those looking to preserve clarity and detail in less-than-optimal lighting situations. To capture images using this Joker film recipe, it's essential to shoot in manual mode and slightly underexpose your shots to achieve the desired moody and dark aesthetic.Tips: Use manual mode, and when shooting in low light, always try to incorporate tungsten or fluorescent lighting, as well as scenes with orange hues, to enhance the visual impact.
Technical Details of Moody Metropolis 500T - Joker Inspired Recipe
Film Simulation Classic Negative Highlight -1 Shadow 0 Color 0 WB / Color Temperature Fluorescent Light-2, -3 Red & -6 Blue Exposure Compensation up to -2/3 ISO Auto up to ISO 6400 Clarity 0 Sharpness 0 Noise Reduction -4 Grain Effect / Grain Size Weak / Small Color Chrome Effect / FX Blue Strong / Strong Dynamic Range 400 These Fujifilm custom settings form the core of the Moody Metropolis 500T film recipe. The adjustments in white balance enhance the hue tones while maintaining cooler, desaturated shadows, mimicking the film’s distinctive tonal balance. The increase in shadow tone deepens the blacks, adding to the dramatic effect, while the reduction in color saturation prevents the colors from becoming too vivid, thus maintaining a more subdued and realistic portrayal. The recipe is versatile enough to handle a variety of lighting conditions. In bright daylight, the DR400 setting helps manage highlights effectively, preserving details that might otherwise be lost. Under artificial or tungsten lighting, the white balance adjustments come into play, with a greenish tone to deliver images with a haunting, cinematic quality. I recommend shooting in low-light conditions, especially at night, as this recipe truly excels. If you're just starting in street photography and want to achieve a cinematic look, you can explore the fundamental photography techniques and basic compositions I employ during my street photography sessions. The sample images provided were captured straight out of the camera using a Fujifilm X-T4 camera paired with the SIRUI Sniper 23mm f1.2 lens, during my street photography outing, shooting at some of the best locations for street photography in KL. This Joker-inspired film recipe for Fujifilm cameras is compatible with all Fujifilm X-Series models that feature the Classic Negative film simulation. This time, I am excited to present to you my mimic of the beloved warm and high-contrast CineStill 400D film stock, optimized for use on any Fujifilm X-Series camera with the Classic Chrome film simulation.

Its fine-grain structure with the film grain settings set to minimal and warm tones make it ideal for capturing captivating portraits with a nostalgic feel. Trust MetroChrome Obscura to deliver exceptional results every time. It took me several attempts to perfect the white balance shift and Kelvin temperature adjustments for the MetroChrome Obscura but I ended up setting the White Balance to Daylight. If you're using an older Fujifilm X-Trans sensor camera and want to try out the MetroChrome Obscura, don't stress over the settings. The most important thing is to adjust the white balance shift. MetroChrome Obscura For Vivid Cinematic Tone
Thank you so much for your continued support and interest in my Fujifilm recipes! As a result of high demand from my photographer friends and readers who have already tried my recipes, I have created MetroChrome Obscura specifically for Fujifilm users who are seeking a new warm-look film recipe with Classic Chrome. I truly appreciate all of your encouragement and I am grateful to have such an amazing community of photographers to share my passion with. This film simulation recipe is intended to be used on older Fujifilm camera models X-Trans III and X-Trans IV, as well as new sensors X-T5, X-H2, and X-H2S, the X100VI, and perhaps the latest Fujifilm X-T50.This CineStill 400D film recipe is one of the Obscura recipes & Classic Chrome recipes that came to my mind all of a sudden and using Classic Chrome is also another option to eliminate some bluish tone when shooting at night. Trust me, there were some unwanted tones when I tested Classic Negative, although I originally wanted to use that for this recipe. So, it's always wise to experiment when creating film recipes to find the one that truly works.

Reala Ace Film Recipe For Fujifilm X-Trans IV - Street Edition
Tumblr media
A Japanese film simulation recipe with vibrant tonality, perfectly suited for a variety of scenes for the 4th generation Fujifilm Cameras
IvanYolo Introducing the latest addition to Fujifilm recipes lineup – Reala Ace film recipe. Originally tailored for the Fujifilm GFX100 II and X100VI, this 20th film simulation meticulously blends faithful color reproduction with a distinctive hard tonality, ensuring its versatility across various subjects and shooting scenarios. Drawing inspiration from the beloved Fujicolor Superia Reala 100, the REALA ACE film simulation has quickly become a favorite among Fujifilm enthusiasts. If you find yourself still using a 4th generation Fujifilm camera, fear not. The Reala Ace film simulation offers a compelling recipe to replicate the sought-after aesthetic. It provides a bridge between the nostalgia of classic film and the convenience of digital photography.
About The Reala Ace Film Recipe
By using the Classic Negative film simulation as a base, Reala Ace is tweaked to imitate the Reala Ace film stock. This lets older Fujifilm cameras enjoy the unique tones of this film recipe. It's worth noting that the original REALA ACE film simulation on the GFX100 II and Fujifilm X100VI was designed to complement the capabilities of larger sensors found in newer Fujifilm models. So, if you're rocking an older Fujifilm camera, exploring this Reala Ace film recipe might be an excellent starting point to capture the essence of this innovative film simulation. Dive into the world of nuanced color and bold tonality with Reala Ace film recipe on your trusted Fujifilm gear. After conducting thorough research and analyzing the Fujicolor Reala Ace 100 film stock sample photos on Lomography, I observed subtle differences resulting from changing light conditions, but the tonality has been fine-tuned to suit a broad range of scenes. Interestingly, I've developed a comparable recipe, the papurudorimu recipe, which produces a tone remarkably similar to the observed results. What stands out to me in this Reala Ace film recipe is the resemblance in certain tones to the actual film stock. Now, turning our attention to the Reala Ace film recipe tailored for the Fujifilm X-Trans IV, there's a deliberate adjustment in the white balance shift, creating a more subdued and nuanced effect. This modification aims to enhance the overall visual experience, offering a unique tonal balance that complements the characteristics of the X-Trans IV sensor. Please note that when using the Reala Ace film recipe, the tonality may appear slightly muted due to the Highlight & Shadow adjusted to -0.5. However, this also means that the recipe is versatile and can perform well under various lighting conditions, making it a great option for any photographer.
Reala Ace Film Recipe: Great For All Scenes
The Reala Ace film recipe is the ultimate solution for all your photography needs if you are looking to shoot SOOC JPEG. Whether you're capturing lively street scenes, stunning portraits, or breathtaking landscapes, this recipe has got you covered. Its ease of use makes shooting a breeze, while its high-quality output ensures that your images stand out from the rest.It is imperative to shoot under ideal lighting conditions. The ideal conditions are most prevalent during the daytime when the sun illuminates the foreground while casting shadows on the background. This enhances and fully exploits the film recipe's unique attributes. If you are unsatisfied with the REALA ACE film simulation on your Fujifilm cameras, you might want to experiment with custom settings. Give it a try and see if it meets your preferences.Debates among the street photography community page on Facebook argue that when it comes to street photography, the usage of filters or presets can compromise the authenticity and rawness of the captured moment. However, I do not adhere to any strict rules or limitations when it comes to my approach to street photography. As long as it's not overly tweaked or adjusted till it looks weird, it's fine. So have fun and enjoy shooting, peeps!

Teal Obscure - Orange Teal Recipe For Fujifilm (Wong Kar-Wai Inspired)
Tumblr media
Wong Kar-Wai look-alike cinematic Orange Teal recipe for Fujifilm cameras
IvanYolo Mood: Cinematic, Low-Light, Orange Teal, Fallen Angels Orange Teal Recipe: Teal Obscure is a wonderfully unique and carefully crafted mood recipe inspired by none other than the incredible Wong Kar-Wai's Fallen Angels movie. This recipe was specifically designed for Fujifilm enthusiasts who are looking to capture the moody and atmospheric elements featured in this classic film. The use of teal hues (most probably it's green) throughout the recipe creates a distinctive look that is sure to make your photos stand out from the crowd. With Teal Obscure for all Fujifilm cameras, you'll be able to recreate the same evocative and mysterious vibe that was present in Wong Kar-Wai's masterpiece. Whether you're an experienced photographer or just starting out, this recipe is perfect for experimenting with and exploring the creative possibilities of your Fujifilm camera.
A Little More About Teal Obscure Orange Teal Recipe
Teal Obscure was initially a hidden recipe under the One for the Road B&W recipe for quite some time, but I decided to differentiate it. Teal Obscure is a name with a special significance. This distinctive title was not randomly selected but was thoughtfully and deliberately chosen after much reflection. You see, as the inventor of Teal Obscure, I envisioned a specific orange teal recipe tone that I wanted to attain. However, uncertainties arose as to whether the exact hue I imagined was possible or not. After numerous experiments and tests, I eventually achieved the perfect greenish tone (intended for the teal look) that I had been seeking. From that point forward, the name Teal Obscure symbolized the tenacity and dedication required to achieve that elusive, flawless color. So, while it might appear to be just a name, Teal Obscure carries a much deeper and more significant meaning for its creator. Inspired by some of the most iconic Hong Kong movie classics, I have managed to come up with a variety of recipes that emit vibrant and stunning orange and teal tones. To name a few of my personal favorites, there is the Neon Obscura recipe that evokes a futuristic and sci-fi vibe, the Cine 2046 that portrays a sultry and moody atmosphere, and the Cira 800 that exudes a vintage and retro feel. However, out of all the recipes that I have created, I consider this specific Orange Teal recipe as the most successful Wong Kar-Wai-inspired recipe yet. I cannot wait to see other photographers try it out for themselves and bring their vision to life through this exciting recipe. Utilizing the Eterna film simulation, this recipe generates a comparable Orange Teal tonality reminiscent of movies, particularly excelling in low-light conditions. Additionally, it proves effective for personal creative video production without the need for additional color grading. You might also like: In The Mood For Teal movie recipe based on Teal Obscure

In conclusion, the Orange Teal Recipe: Teal Obscure offers a distinctive and carefully crafted mood inspired by Wong Kar-Wai's Fallen Angels. Tailored for Fujifilm enthusiasts seeking to capture the atmospheric elements of the classic film, Teal Obscure's teal hues create a unique look that sets your photos apart.Originally concealed under the One for the Road B&W recipe, Teal Obscure was differentiated and given a name with special significance. The journey to achieve the perfect greenish tone symbolized the dedication and tenacity required, making Teal Obscure more than just a name—it carries a deeper meaning for its creator.Drawing inspiration from iconic Hong Kong movie classics, I have developed various Fujifilm recipes for low-light, with the Orange Teal recipe considered the most successful. It invites photographers to bring their vision to life through its exciting tones. While efforts are made to avoid duplicating white balance shifts, comparisons between Cira 800 and Teal Obscure reveal unique tonal characteristics in low-light settings. In essence, each recipe brings its own distinctive qualities based on lighting conditions. In parting, the advice is to take it easy with the Orange Teal recipe. Creating the exact perfect Orange Teal tone may be elusive, but the essence is to have fun capturing your shots!

Neon Obscura - Vibrant Cinematic Night Recipe For Fujifilm
Tumblr media
Neon Obscura
A film recipe simulates the stunning scenes from Hong Kong movies using your Fujifilm camera and neon lights
Mood: Cinematic, Low-Light, Neon Neon Obscura, is one of the most versatile cinematic film recipes ever created. Creating unique and outstanding Fujifilm recipes can be a challenging and complicated process that often requires some dedication and experimentation. It takes a lot of trial and error to produce a recipe that stands out and truly captures the desired mood and atmosphere. Therefore, after years of practice, persistence, and passion, I am thrilled to share with you my latest masterpiece: the phenomenal cinematic film recipe, Neon Obscura.Out of all the low-light film simulation recipes that I have created over the years, I must say, without a doubt, that this one is, hands down, my absolute favorite. I am particularly enthusiastic about this recipe because I've always had trouble replicating the stunning night scenes from Hong Kong movies. However, since the inception of this recipe, I can confidently say that capturing the vivacity and energy of those scenes has become a reality. This unique and mesmerizing recipe is inspired by the iconic works of Wong Kar Wai, not 100% the same but similar. I have been trying all the time but failed. I'm pleased to present this recipe; Neon Obscura is the perfect tool to add an extra touch of magic to your night shoots. It is developed explicitly for low-light conditions, which makes it the perfect recipe if you want to achieve cinematic-looking nighttime shots.
Understanding Neon Obscura Cinematic Film Recipe
The Neon Obscura cinematic film recipe is an exceptional choice for those seeking a perfect blend of cinematic effects while shooting at night. The recipe is derived from one of the most reliable Fujifilm recipes and also from one of the Japanese film-like recipes, which has undergone extensive fine-tuning and re-evaluation to achieve the exact perfect blend of settings. Based on the Classic Negative film simulation, the Neon Obscura recipe has been designed to deliver an amazing array of visual effects that heighten the overall appeal of your film.Unique adjustments have been made, with a particular focus on white balance settings, which help to bring out the true beauty of your images. Whether you're a fan of the portrait or street photography, this recipe is guaranteed to get you stunning visuals even in low-light situations.Sometimes, the film grain settings may be too dominant for night shoots. I would recommend adjusting it to small/weak or turning it off completely for smoother images. It ultimately depends on what effect you want to achieve. Do you want a vintage look? Then maximize the film grain to strong! There are no hard and fast rules when shooting with the Neon Obscura. Most of the sample images were shot with the SIRUI Sniper 23mm f1.2, which has an inherent cine lens from the SIRUI Nightwalker. I like how cinematic these images look at night. If you are trying to achieve this kind of feel in your night scenes, Neon Obscura is the best choice.Neon Obscura is a highly versatile and dynamic artistic medium that truly comes to life in the presence of specific lighting conditions. To fully experience the vibrant and captivating displays offered by Neon Obscura, it is important to consider the type of lighting that will be used in the space. For optimal results, Neon Obscura works best when under white tungsten lighting or colorful neon lights.
Achieving Cinematic Results With Neon Obscura
In summary, the Neon Obscura cinematic film recipe stands as a versatile tool capable of seamlessly translating your creative vision into reality. Whether you seek to infuse your project with an air of darkness and mystery, cyberpunk or aim for vibrant and captivating portrait photoshoots, Neon Obscura excels in replicating the atmospheric allure of a cinematic movie scene. This recipe serves as a bridge between your artistic vision and the captivating visual narratives inspired by the magic of cinema. Check out my recent neon light portrait shoots for more samples.Explore the depths of your creativity with Neon Obscura, capturing cinematic moments that will undoubtedly leave you in awe, much like the profound impact I experienced upon witnessing these remarkable sample images for the first time. Rest assured as most of the Obscura recipes I've created so far never disappoint.Out for a night shoot and planning to chase the light? Vivid Obscura - 90s Vintage Film Recipe For Fujifilm Cameras
Tumblr media
90s Vintage & Cinematic Tonal Balance For Day & Night Street Photography
Mood: Vintage, Dark, Vivid Color, Cinematic Intended Use: Suitable for day and night photography, creating a cinematic look Inspired by: 35mm Film Roll in the 90s Introducing "Vivid Obscura" - one of the Obscura film recipes meticulously crafted to recreate the timeless aesthetic of 35mm film rolls from the 90s. This recipe is designed to evoke a cinematic look with rich colors and a slight vintage vibe, reminiscent of the classic film era. Vivid Obscura is specifically tailored for urban street photography, making it an ideal choice for capturing the vibrant energy and character of cities both during the day and at night. This film recipe particularly excels in urban environments where diverse lighting conditions and the interplay of natural and artificial light create a captivating atmosphere. When shooting in bustling city streets, Vivid Obscura brings out the best in your photographs, preserving the essence of the moment with its distinctive visual appeal. The recipe is optimized to perform exceptionally well in urban environments with tungsten lighting. Tungsten lights, commonly found in cityscapes, emit a warm, yellowish glow that adds an extra layer of charm and nostalgia to your images. With Vivid Obscura, the colors come to life, providing a cinematic treatment to your urban street scenes, whether it's the neon signs illuminating a nighttime alley or the sunlight casting intriguing shadows on bustling city streets during the day.
What Vivid Obscura Vintage Film Recipe Is All About?
Based on the Classic Negative film simulation, the Vivid Obscura film recipe is enhanced with the Color Chrome Effect set to Strong, resulting in vibrant and punchy colors that make your images pop. Custom white balance is used for more accurate color representation. The custom white balance is set to 4300K, providing a slightly warmer temperature for a nostalgic and cinematic look.A white balance shift is applied with a +3 shift in the red and no shift in the blue, enhancing the warm tones and creating a vintage atmosphere in your images. What makes this recipe special is that it introduces a red and blue hue, which can enhance the overall feel of your image. The best part is that you can use this recipe when taking photos in the sunlight or shade - it's versatile and an excellent option for any photography enthusiast.True to its name, Vivid Obscura is designed to bring your images to life with vibrant and captivating colors. By increasing the color setting by 2, this recipe enhances the richness and vibrancy of every hue, adding an extra pop to your photographs. From vivid reds to luscious greens and brilliant blues, Vivid Obscura infuses your images with a dynamic palette, making them visually striking and full of energy. Whether you're capturing urban landscapes, portraits, or everyday moments, expect your subjects to radiate with intensified colors, creating a captivating visual experience.Last but not least, both sharpness and noise reduction are set to 0 to maintain a natural film-like appearance, avoiding excessive digital processing.
Recommended Shooting Modes
When using the Vivid Obscura film recipe, it is advisable to avoid using spot metering, as it may result in exposure inconsistencies, especially in scenes with high contrast or complex lighting. Spot metering measures the exposure based on a small area of the frame, which may not accurately represent the overall scene. Instead, rely on the camera's multi or evaluative metering mode to achieve reliable and consistent exposures, preserving details in both highlights and shadows.Multi-mode (also known as a matrix or evaluative metering) takes into account various areas of the frame to determine the exposure settings, ensuring a well-balanced exposure across the scene. Aperture Priority mode allows you to set the desired aperture value while the camera automatically adjusts the shutter speed for proper exposure. These modes are particularly effective for street photography, where lighting conditions may vary from one frame to another. For optimal results, we recommend using multi or Aperture Priority mode in your Fujifilm X Series camera, while avoiding spot metering. These shooting techniques, combined with the Vivid Obscura recipe, allow you to focus on composition and capturing the essence of urban street scenes while ensuring consistent and well-balanced exposures.
Fully Harness The Capabilities of This Film Recipe With Fujifilm Cameras
In conclusion, the Vivid Obscura Fujifilm Vintage Film Recipe offers a captivating and nostalgic cinematic look, inspired by the 35mm film rolls from the 90s. With its vibrant colors, tonal range, and vintage aesthetic, this recipe elevates your urban street photography to new heights. Whether you're capturing the energy of bustling city streets during the day or the alluring cinematic glow of tungsten lighting at night using a diffusion filter, Vivid Obscura brings out the best in your images, preserving the essence of the moment with its distinctive visual appeal. If you are looking for similar Fujifilm recipes that thrive for day & night shooting, I would recommend the Nomadic Mood recipe. This film recipe is compatible with a wide range of Fujifilm cameras featuring the newer X-Trans IV and X-Trans V sensors. Cameras such as the X-T5, X-H2S, X-H2, X-S10, X-S20, X-T30II, X-T4, X-E4, and X100V are all well-suited to fully harness the capabilities of this film recipe.Whether you're exploring the vibrant colors of street art, capturing the juxtaposition of lights in a city skyline, or documenting the candid moments of urban life, the Vivid Obscura film recipe empowers you to tell compelling visual stories with a touch of nostalgia and cinematic flair.

It utilizes the Classic Chrome film simulation as a base, known for its muted colors and vintage vibe. The Dynamic Range setting is set to DR400 to preserve details in both highlights and shadows. For the color adjustments, the highlight is slightly reduced to create a subdued look, while the shadow is increased to enhance depth and contrast. The color saturation remains neutral to maintain a balanced and natural tone. Sharpness is boosted slightly to add crispness to the image. To enhance the overall retro vibe, a grain effect is applied with medium strength and small-sized grains. This adds texture and a film-like quality to the image. RetroVision 2049 custom settings are carefully adjusted and tested for day & night shoots, from portraits to street to make this the perfect cinematic recipe for both world. Probably you might want to try one of the upcoming film recipes which will be in warm tone, rest assured. Option #1 - Diffusion Filter Add a diffusion filter to enhance the futuristic retro aesthetic with a soft, dreamy look reminiscent of vintage lenses. The diffusion filter adds a subtle glow and smoothness to the image, reducing sharpness while maintaining a nostalgic charm. Option #2 - Without Filters Alternatively, you can shoot without filters to maintain the Classic Chrome's contrasty look, achieving a color pop with the RetroVision 2049 recipe. With this approach, you'll be able to capture the cinematic street life whether during the day or night while adding a touch of classic film style.

Dark Diary - High-Contrast B&W SOOC Fujifilm Recipe
Tumblr media
Fujifilm X-Trans IV SOOC Boudoir Recipe
Mood: High Contrast, Moody, Dramatic This is one of the Fujifilm recipes inspired by Daido Moriyama's high-contrast black & white tone that you might want to try if you are into Daido Moriyama's work. Although this recipe might not look the same contrasty photos captured with the Ricoh GR monochrome, on the Fujifilm cameras, you can shoot SOOC JPEG without editing to get a similar high-contrast black & white tone. Many Fuji fanboys & fangirls who like or inspire Daido Moriyama's works might be interested in this recipe.
What Is Dark Diary Recipe All About?
The Dark Diary Fujifilm recipe is one of the Black & White film simulation recipes created based on the Monochrome film simulation and an enhanced version of the One for the Road recipe. Setting this recipe on your Fujifilm X-Trans IV cameras allows you to shoot with similar high-contrast B&W to the Daido Moriyama B&W photographs. Although it's not 100% accurate, you can still shoot to get a similar contrasty black & white tone. I can say you can never 100% mimic it from the Ricoh cameras without post-processing, but this will let you achieve the effect the closest as possible. For Fuji shooters, you might know about the in-camera Clarity setting for creative control. While shooting with this recipe, you might experience some delay due to the Clarity that has been used to increase the black & shadow tone but you can still turn it off if don't want the delay.  To use this recipe to achieve a high-contrast tone without editing, it is recommended to shoot in a good location with harsh shadows and highlights. You need to either be manually exposed in manual mode or you can underexpose your images. You have to set the ISO and shutter speed manually and shoot at aperture f8 or f11. Well, this is just from my experience in achieving the high-contrast B&W effect using this Fujifilm recipe. The Dark Diary recipe is suitable for use on the newer Fujifilm X-Trans IV sensors cameras including the Fujifilm X-T4, X-E4, X-Pro3, X-100V, X-S10, & X-T30 II.
Final Thoughts
How do you like this SOOC Fujifilm recipe so far? Sound interesting right? This recipe works great for street photography and is 100% tested to work in daylight shooting. Although you won't get that heavy contrast similar to the Ricoh GR monochrome, you can still get a similar effect on the Fujifilm! Trust me, there are no rules when it comes to this recipe, you can shoot overexpose, or underexpose based on your creativity and mood to achieve the high-contrast B&W tone.

Reverie Noir - AI Recipe For Fujifilm X-Series
Tumblr media
A Timeless B&W Film-Look Recipe for Captivating Street Photography Strolls
Mood: B&W, Timeless, Street, Moody I'm excited to introduce one of my Fujifilm AI recipes called 'Reverie Noir', which was initially generated using AI and then refined to enhance its quality. I understand that AI recipes for Fujifilm can be a topic of debate within the Fujifilm recipes community. It's important to note that AI-generated recipes should be used as a guide, and while it has the potential to work exceptionally well if it is fine-tuned and adjusted to our personal preferences and shooting conditions. This really helps when you're out of ideas to add new Fujifilm recipes to the list.
Understanding the Reverie Noir AI Recipe
The 'Reverie Noir' recipe is designed to bring forth the essence of timeless street photography with a noir-inspired twist. By utilizing the Acros film simulation, this recipe accentuates the monochromatic allure, rendering images with deep blacks, rich tones, and exquisite details. The carefully balanced settings heighten contrast and evoke a moody ambiance, allowing your photographs to tell captivating stories that transcend time. It has been a while since I was out for a photo walk with my vintage hot lens. It does bring back the mood to shoot again although I was out for a few hours only. Most of the sample photos were shot with the Asahi Pentax SMC Takumar 50mm f1.4 vintage lens. I was shooting in the shade but I think this recipe will shine when shooting harsh sunlight with shade. Setting the dynamic range to DR400 preserves highlight and shadow details while maintaining a balanced tonal range, adding depth and dimension to your images. The clarity setting is increased by +1 adding subtle mid-tone contrast, and enhancing the overall definition and depth of your monochrome images. The Clarity might add a little delay whenever you press the shutter button but you won't noticed it if you shooting slowly with a peace of mind, just like shooting with film camera. Pairing Vintage Lenses with 'Reverie Noir' Indeed, every lens possesses its distinct characteristics, which can contribute to the timeless film look you desire. If you happen to own vintage lenses, I highly recommend incorporating them into your photography process alongside the "Reverie Noir" Fujifilm AI recipe. Vintage lenses often impart a unique and nostalgic rendering, further enhancing the timeless aesthetic of your images. Experimenting with different lenses allows you to explore the interplay between modern technology and vintage charm, resulting in truly captivating photographs that evoke the spirit of classic film. Embrace the fusion of old and new, and let your creativity flourish through the marriage of the "Reverie Noir" recipe and your vintage lenses.
Reverie Noir: AI Recipe for Fujifilm X-Series Cameras
In conclusion, "Reverie Noir" emerges as a captivating AI recipe designed to unlock the timeless allure of monochrome photography on Fujifilm cameras of all kinds. With its carefully crafted settings, this recipe embraces the essence of noir aesthetics, allowing photographers to embark on a creative journey through the streets, capturing the depth, contrast, and captivating ambiance of the urban landscape. If you need to add some color to your photographs instead of B&W, you can check out the Timeless Provia or Ethereal Street recipe, which is one of my 2023 favorite Fujifilm SOOC recipes. Whether you're an avid Fujifilm enthusiast or a newcomer to the world of photography, "Reverie Noir" opens up a world of possibilities, enabling you to create stunning imagery that transcends time and leaves a lasting impression. So grab your Fujifilm camera whether it's old or new, dive into the noir reverie, and unleash your artistic vision with this extraordinary recipe.

The Eterna/Cinema simulation was developed to replicate the look of Fujifilm's motion picture film stock, and it has since become a favorite among creatives who want to achieve a filmic aesthetic with their digital photography or videography.

The "Ethereal Street" recipe is an excellent choice for giving your street photography a cinematic feel that's reminiscent of the color grading often used in movies. With this recipe, the Eterna Cinema film simulation's signature muted colors are subtly enhanced to give them a bit more vibrancy without becoming overpowering. The DR400% setting helps to capture more detail in high-contrast situations, while the adjustments to the highlight and shadow settings ensure a balanced exposure. The white Balance shift are similar to the Timeless Provia settingThe Ethereal Street recipe incorporates a slight white balance shift to create a warm tone that maintains tonal balance without affecting skin tones or creating an overly pronounced effect. Fujicolor Superia X-Tra 400 Film Recipe - Japanese Film-Look
Tumblr media
Fujifilm Fujicolor Superia X-Tra 400, Japanese Film Look Custom Settings for Streets & Portraits
Mood: Vintage, Japanese Film-Look A new film recipe that is intended to mimic the actual Fujifilm Fujicolor Superia X-Tra 400 35mm colour negative and this is one of the experiments I did and created based on an actual 35mm film photo sample. It might not look the same due to the constant changing of light conditions. This Fujicolor Superia X-Tra 400 is one of the Classic Negative film recipes that have the Japanese film look. The base film simulation Classic Negative is supposed to mimic the original colour negative. One of the reasons Fujicolor Superia X-tra 400 is such a great film is its high color accuracy. This film captures colors accurately and renders them with great vibrancy, making it a great choice for photographers looking to capture realistic colors.
What Is Fujicolor X-Tra 400 Film Recipe All About?
What I really like about the Fujicolor X-Tra 400 is the moody greenish tones in the dark area, based on my research on the film samples, correct me if I'm wrong. Other similar film recipes are Fujifilm Natura 1600, Fujicolor C200 & Hue Obscure. This recipe is based on the Classic Negative film simulation and mimics the high-speed daylight-balanced colour negative. Suitable for cityscape, sightseeing, travel and portraits.
* The Best Way To Shoot With Fujicolor X-Tra 400 Film Recipe
To get the best results out of this variant of Fujicolor X-Tra 400 for Fujifilm X-Trans IV cameras,  always shoot under the sunlight especially during the morning or evening. Also best use for portraits with direct sunlight as seen in the sample photos below. You can overexpose with the exposure compensation dial, up to one stop overexpose to get the mood that you want. If you want to achieve the greenish tones, make sure to shoot at something black on the background to achieve the results the look. All the streets and portrait samples are shot with the Fujifilm X-T4 and will work for the Fujifilm X-Trans IV sensor cameras including the X100V, X-T4, X-T30II, X-E4, X-S10, and X-Pro3.Are these Fujifilm recipes compatible with the newer Fujifilm X-T5, X-H2, & X-H2S? It doesn't hurt to try. I guess the tone will be the same/similar since it rely on the White Balance Shift and Kelvin temperature, I'll let you experiment with it. Cheers!
