predictions for what i believe is the inevitable rocky horror broadway revival next year for the 50th anniversary of the film bc i need to do this:
either stunt cast frank (tired) or Known Broadway Name as frank. my money is on J Harrison Ghee-- and i want to see it! they would actually be quite good in the role! this will be the productions #diversity moment
though would not be shocked if the only darker skinned person on the cast was magenta in a classic broadway only casting dark skinned poc in roles that arent romantic or are literal maids and people who are tragic and unconnected to the rest of the cast blunder (think: eponine style)
could very easily see either unknown brad and janets or famous actor brad unknown janet. if they cast ben platt. i will be kicking down some doors. but also they wont cast him bc brad actually isnt a very Star Power role given the fact that his one song is very unknown and also sucks so bad (though i wouldnt count it out). this is despite the fact that i think that the role of brad and janet is so well suited to be unknowns.
eddie will be a stunt cast because it's easy, and so will the criminologist, though i wouldnt be shocked if crim wasnt.
riff raff will be played by a rock singer potentially also very famous. look the way that broadway has been trending i am not too hopeful that this wont be one of those star studded cast that doesnt really mesh type things (real ones know what im talking about).
OR they will invoke demons and recast reeve carney as riff raff. he will not be any better this time
its going to be played tongue in cheek we know this is campy isnt this plot so stupid as opposed to taking the show seriously for what it is and the reasons people love it
they're not going to rewrite anything and get cancelled by 15 year olds and terminally online queer discoursers
despite everything, the show will be good, but it will leave you feeling like something was off on the account of it just feeling a little soulless (read: stunt casting focus) but a good night
outside props will be banned from the theater except for the two that they will make you pay for as an extra fee
there will be at least one minor breakaway star from an unknown they cast in the show who is nominated for a tony but doesnt win (possibly the magenta actress)
it'll be on broadway for a slightly less than a year, but no longer than 13 months
the set is also going to be awesome. they're going to make a really cool lab set with lots of gadgets to fuck around with and
the costumes are unfortunately going to miss the mark and be simultaneously uninspired and perhaps TOO inspired by something they really should not be inspired by. the phantom costumes will be a disaster, but everyone else's will be serviceable. if they dont give frank a floor show change i WILL be deeply upset.
overall, i think this will be another example of a show with good performances and set pieces that trick audiences into thinking its a good show, though i desperately want to be proven wrong. but we'll see! hopefully they actually bring the show back next year im sure SOMEONE has thought of a way of bringing it its just a question of will it carry through. i will be sad if it doesnt happen.

All Grown Up â Embry Solo
I sat listening to Mom play⌠it had been a good day. She had her treatment yesterday and I spent the night at home, to make sure she was okay. Then, other than my early morning run I was able to spend most of the day with her. But a phone call from a mildly panicked #Quil had me telling her goodbye and heading home.
âEverything is fine Mom, #Quil is just worried because #Claire isnât feeling good. But sheâs okay.â
âIf youâre sure⌠but if she has a feverâŚâ Mom started.
âWeâll take her to #Emilyâs.â I promised.
âYou will not!â Mom looked like I had just said Iâd toss her into an ice bath. â#Emily is pregnant and the last thing she needs is an infection.â
âOhâŚâ she had a point⌠but I knew it wasnât an infection. âIâll call #Kim. Sheâs a nurse. But it wonât be necessary Mom⌠Iâll text you, okay. Just relax and enjoy your evening.â
It only took me a few minutes to get to the only pharmacy on the Rez. I hadnât ever considered this to be a difficult task as I drove here. I mean⌠I was raised by a single mom⌠the concept of shopping for feminine hygiene products was not foreign to me. But standing here nowâŚ. This was not like throwing the familiar box that I always saw on the bathroom cabinet into the cart with the groceriesâŚ
I must have stood there too long because the woman behind the register abandoned her post and came to stand next to me, crossing her arms. After a beat, she grinned and said. âFirst time?â
I laughed. âUm⌠Yes and no.â
âGirlfriend?â She asked.
âNo, no.â I chuckled. âA kid⌠not mine. Sheâs⌠family.â
âAh!â her amused expression changed a little. âFirst period?â
âFirst I know of. But I wouldnât exactly be the first person sheâd tell⌠Sheâs fourteen.â I explained.
âIf it is her first then sheâs lucky, so many kids are starting younger and younger now.â She picked up two products from the shelves. âShe might not feel comfortable with tampons if it is her first, but you should probably get them and napkins. Let her have the control over the choice. We do have the menstrual cups too if sheâs the eco-friendly type. But you might want to leave that conversation between her and her parents.â
I quickly scanned the box she pointed to and nodded. âYeah, letâs leave that one to the advanced class.â I chuckled, taking the two boxes she recommended. âBut I will take these. And anything else you recommend?â I turned to smile at her.
âMidol!â She said without hesitation. âIs she allergic to any medication?â
âNo⌠nothing like that.â I answered that confidently⌠there wasnât much I didnât know the kid⌠#Quil made sure we had all memorised the kid's blood typeâŚÂ đđŚđ¤đĽ đđ đđđ¤đ.
âOh, and a hot water bottle⌠it really helps with any cramps.â
I laughed, following her back to the counter, she stopped along the way and pulled something fuzzy off of a rack. âShe does love unicorns.â I chuckled, pointing to the fuzz.
âWho doesnât?â She shrugged unapologetically. It was only then I noticed the little unicorn-shaped silver studs pressed into her ears⌠this woman was at least in her late twenties. I smirked, I always had a great respect for people who so blatantly defied the expectations of the world.
She stepped behind the counter and I set everything sheâd handed me down. âThanks for your help.â I said politely⌠âI probably should have been a little more prepared for all this considering her age.â
âAt least you are now.â She smiled and started scanning barcodes. âYouâre a good brother⌠My big brother would never do something like this for me. He would get all embarrassed and flustered.â
I tapped my ATM card against the terminal and looked at her. I didnât see the point in correcting her assumption, I thought of Little Bear as a sister. âWell⌠I donât get embarrassed easily. But I was about two seconds away from flustered before you rescued me. So thanks again. I held up the paper bag she had packed everything into.
âOh.. I almost forgot.â She stopped me as I took my first step away from the counter. She reached under the register and emerged with a box wrapped up in pink paper. âThese boxes have information booklets and product samples for young girls, she might have seen it already it. They get passed out in schools in the area as part of the sexual health education plan. Thereâs even a few little pampering treats in there too.â Then they set a folded pamphlet on the top. âAnd some basic information on birth control. We might not like to think about it for kids that age⌠but it's important.â
I picked them up too. âThank you.â I said again. I knew that #Quil might struggle with that last one. âSheâs a very clever girl⌠when she knows all her options sheâll make the choice best for her.â
When I climbed back in the Jeep I tucked the birth control information into my jacket, That was something I could give her when #Quil wasnât around. Todayâs development would already have him reeling. It was going to be a very interesting night.
Back at home, I heard the sounds of the TV from outside and two heartbeats⌠#Quilâs was a little faster than normal. It was only when I got closer I could tell it was the new Little Mermaid movie. Just because I recognised the song. When I opened the door They were on the couch and #Bear was wrapped up in a blanket lying against an overly concerned #Quilâs shoulder.
âHey #LittleBear.â I smiled at the kid and hung up my jacket next to the door. âI heard you werenât feeling too good.â
She blushed a little and curled into a tighter ball. âMy tummy hurts.â She complained.
âI know, honey.â I crouched in front of her and kissed her forehead, glancing up at #Quil. âBut curling up like that doesnât help. It just makes your muscles tense up even more.â She looked at me with her pale brown eyes full of questions. âI was raised by a progressive single mom.â I chuckled. âI know stuff.â I held out the bag for her. âWhat does help though⌠is a hot shower. Why donât you go hop in and you can get in your PJs and relax for the night, hm?â She looked like the thought of moving was the worst thing she could do. âAnd while you do that; weâll get your brand-new hot water bottle ready.â I showed her the fuzzy pink thing. She finally cracked a smile.
âThatâs cute!â She laughed a little. After a little more nudging she went to shower and change.
I fished the kettle from deep inside the corner cupboard to boil water and #Quill leaned against the counter. âSheâs growing up too fast.â He said as if it was a tragedy. And I knew it was how he truly felt. He filled me in⌠telling me her first period was last month and she did not really know how to tell him.
Even in the pack, it was difficult for some to understand his relationship with #Claire. But I knew my brother, and all he wanted right now was for #Claire to stay a little girl and live a carefree, wonderful life full of all the innocent joys of being a kid. So she would never know heartbreak or the stresses that went along with growing up. If he could, right now⌠he would hit the pause button and keep her at this age indefinitely. To him, #Claire was always the absolute greatest version of herself exactly as she was in every individual moment of her life.
I knew that as soon as #Bear made peace with her new developments, he would be too. It might have sounded fickle⌠but it was actually the most incredible evolution I have ever witnessed. How two people so extremely different, could make each other so perfectly happy and with zero expectations or pressures on either party.
I had to stop myself from letting my mind wander to @HotHeadSheWolf at that thought.
#Quil wasnât in a rush for the #LittleBear to grow up, or for their relationship to change in any way. He just wanted her to be happy and healthy⌠and not in pain. Which she clearly is tonight.
I knew I should have told him that actually, most fourteen-year-old girls got their period. They dated, they had crushes, got heartbroken⌠got hurt⌠got sick.
But because he was my best friend, my brother⌠and because he was fearful of this new phase of life that his sole reason for existing was entering I said. âI know, far too fast.â Instead. âSheâll be okay. I got her something for the pain too.â After a beat of silence. âDid you call her mom?â
âNo.â #Quil shook his head. âShe said sheâs a woman now and she needs to đđđđ.â He air-quoted the last word with a bitter tone.
âWow⌠that's a lot of sass for our #LittleBear.â I shook my head with a small grin. #Quil agreed and pinched the bridge of his nose. I heard the water in the bathroom shut off and I patted my brotherâs shoulder.
âYou know what I forgot?â I told him. âIcecream. Why donât you run out and grab her some Rocky Road? Youâll be a hero⌠Give me a few minutes with her, too.â
It wasnât something #Quil would question. He knew I loved her like a baby sister. None of us really knew what being imprinted on at such a young age would do to her development. And it wasnât like we could use #Nessie as an example. Claire had shown some interest in dating and then completely lost even faster than the desire had made itself known. We werenât sure why but it wasnât because sheâd been hurt⌠as far as we knew the date in question hadnât actually happened.
The sound of #Quilâs car had faded by the time #Claire came out of the bathroom in her pyjamas and a towel wrapped around her head. She looked around, confused. âHe just went to the store⌠and I wanted to talk to you.â
âI really donât want to talk about it. So embarrassing!â she huffed and crossed the kitchen opening the fridge and staring in, even though I knew that she wasnât really looking for anything.
âIt's not embarrassing #Bear⌠at least, it shouldnât be. Is it because weâre guys? Because if that is the case I can get any of the girls here that you want to talk to.â I leaned against the table letting her move from cupboard to cupboard just for a distraction or an excuse not to look at me.
âUgh! Itâs not a guy thing!! Thatâs so Gen XâŚÂ Itâs aâŚâ She stopped, huffed and crossed her arms and glared at me. If looks could kill⌠but at least I had her attention.
âItâs a #Quil thing?â I offered. And she burst into tears like Iâd just kicked her puppy.
Shit!
âOkay⌠Itâs okay, #LittleBear.â I crossed the room to hug her and I guided her to the couch where her hot water bottle was waiting a long with two pills and a glass of water on the table. âTake this and it will help with your tummy.â
When she stopped sobbing, I kissed the top of her head and asked. âWhy didnât you tell him when you got your first period?â
âI was hoping I could get away with not telling him for a while.â She admitted. âItâs just⌠He always stays the same and I⌠I keep growing up and⌠heâŚâ She shook her head, struggling to understand.
âSweetie⌠you are growing up. Hiding from it isnât going to stop it. You understand why #Quil and I donât get older, right?â We had explained almost everything to her a few years ago. Almost. She was noticing how we didnât change.
âI know⌠I know⌠but what happens when Iâm not a kid anymore.â She hugged the unicorn hot water bottle to her belly. âHe wonât take care of me anymore.â
I couldnât help it. I laughed. âOh #Bear.â I hugged her again and shook her playfully. âI love you more than my own lifeâŚ. but that is the stupidest thing you have ever said.â
She slapped my chest lightly. having learned her lesson from trying to slap us in the past. âAnd as much as I love you #LittleBear, it's barely a drop in the ocean of how much #Quil loves you. He will always, always take care of you.â
âHe seemed⌠upset when I told him.â #Claire said.
This was where things got a little complicated. #Quil hadnât wanted to explain imprinting to her. He was worried it would warp her teenage experience and #Jacob and I had agreed when he came to us about it. Mostly because when it came to #Claire⌠#Quil would always know best.
âI know⌠And I know you think he wants you to be his little #ClaireBear forever⌠I know that he thinks that too. But I know better than the both of you.â I smirked and she held her unicorn tighter, rolling her eyes at me. âHe was upset because you were⌠and thatâs okay⌠Youâve got a lot going on. But he canât stop himself from feeling what youâre feeling. Part of growing up means you need to stop and understand that too. He will always take care of you⌠no matter what, but sometimes⌠youâll have to take care of him too. Take a moment to try and understand how he feels. You donât even have to get it right, or you can just ask him outright. Okay? It will mean everything that you tried.â
She nodded solemnly. âI was being selfish?â
I laughed and little and hugged her. âNo. You were being stubborn⌠and a little silly. You donât need to hide things from #Quil, it just makes him worry. Youâre allowed to have secrets⌠but things like this? Thereâs no reason to hide themâŚâ I wasnât going to tell her we could smell these changesâŚ. That sounded creepy enough to let her imprint handle.
âHe will always want what is best for you. And you are a clever girl⌠sensible⌠I trust you to make those choices wisely. That means that you will always be working toward the same goal. He will always support your goals and dreams. As long they arenât⌠you knowâŚâ I struggled to find a word, then decided the first one I was going to say was good enough. âStupid⌠or⌠dangerous.â
âSo as long as I donât decide I want to the a co-star on Teen Mom?â She teased and terrified me all at once.
âSpeaking of teen pregnancy!â I said, just because I knew she thought I wouldnât follow that thread. I retrieved the pamphlet from my coat and handed it to her. âDo we need to have this conversation?â
She scanned the front page and shook her head. âNo⌠I know what all the choices are⌠But Iâm notâŚâ Now she was embarrassed. âI donât think I want a date... I thought I did but then it just felt⌠weird. So if Iâm not dating Iâm definitely not thinking aboutâŚâ
âSex.â I finished for her and she turned bright red, but I wasnât about to go easy on this topic. âIf you canât say the word then you definitely arenât ready for that.â
âI knowâŚâ The pink in her cheeks abated. âAnd Iâm not⌠not at all. I mean⌠I donât think I even want to kiss a boy yet, and Mom said I can talk to her about birth control and stuff whenever I need to.â
I smiled to myself. I loved that woman. âI know I might not be your best option⌠but one phone call and Iâll⌠do my very best to find you a more qualified person to talk to.â I chuckled. But she knew I would drop just about anything for her.

She nodded and I headed to the bathroom to shower and give them a few minutes.

They're getting scared hehe. From Bob Wood Horses for Life.
Equestrian competitions are under a well organized, well funded global threat. Beginning three years ago, when the animal rights organizations got horses banned from the Olympic Pentathlon, the animal rights types have been emboldened. Their goal is to end all equestrian competitions world wide. They have gained substantial strides by scaring the European horse world. Recently an experienced European trainer was banned from participating in all German EXPOS and public events after he did a presentation on the proper use of hobbles. The animal rights next big push will be at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
They have already convinced the French National Assembly to pass a law with 46 points specifying how horses must be treated in Paris. While most of the points are good, about 14 of their points could be used as "gotcha" levers against riders and grooms that could be used to terminate Olympic equestrian competitions. In the future, I will be posting about this new French law.
This week it appears the animal rights movement made their first move in preparation for the summer Olympics. A European TV channel released a trailer of an upcoming undercover filmed show about the training techniques of former Danish Olympic dressage rider Andreas Helgstrand. Personally, I believe that Helgstrand and other modern dressage riders like him deserve everything they get, except for one thing. His and their fate will have a huge impact on us all.

FEI Complaints
Here is a link to a Horse and Hound magazine article from last June announcing that Helgstrand was taking legal action to stop the release of the TV show. I guess he lost.

In the magazine article Helgstrand says, âEveryone who has to do with riding horses knows that horses are big and strong, and that they often require aids." I find his attitude quite similar to that of the British fox hunters back in the early 2000s when they were confronted by animal rights organizations. We all know how that turned out. Fox hunting is essentially illegal in almost all of the UK. Self righteousness is never an effective strategy.
It's not just happening over in Europe. Here in North America, we see dribs and drabs of animal rights success. A rodeo gets banned in Illinois, a 70 year old pony ride gets shut down in California (I think maybe that one got reinstated) but now the animal rights people have announced a huge assault. The US Humane Society, PETA's sibling, has announced a "Council" they formed on horse racing in the US.
Bottom line, no major North American horse organization is defining the lines between equine use and equine abuse. This allows these definitions to be defined by the animal rights people and for them to set and promote their definitions. Judgement day is around the corner. Don't think it's not.
