Hi there, my name is Johnathan Geary, but I go by Jay Digital.

Recently, I was laid off—or rather, fired—from my job. My business, unfortunately, is not thriving at the moment. It’s making zero income. My job, which I just lost, used to pay me about $3,500 a month for photography work—something I believe I do well and have consistently excelled at. However, the decision to let me go wasn’t based on my work quality, but rather the opinions of someone inexperienced in photography making critical decisions about my performance.

I fulfilled my duties and even exceeded them, stepping outside the scope of photography to take on videography tasks and graphic design (though, in reality, I never once touched graphic design during my time there). Despite my efforts, they deemed my performance unsatisfactory, and I was let go immediately after a meeting I had scheduled to clarify things. No resolution. No acknowledgment of my contributions. Just a cold goodbye.

This decision has left me emotionally drained and facing the harsh realities of losing financial security. When a job loss impacts your ability to provide for your family, it’s not just a professional blow—it’s personal. It shakes the very foundation of your home life.

The Struggles of Moving Forward

I’ve always believed in doing things with quality in mind, and while I take accountability for my actions, the stress and lack of appreciation in this role created an environment that was nearly impossible to thrive in. My dismissal forced me to reflect not only on my career but also on my personal struggles.

For transparency’s sake, I’ve dealt with anger issues since I was a child. Stress, coupled with underappreciation, can push anyone to their limits. And while I don’t act on it, I’ve often felt hopeless and even suicidal. But I remind myself that if I give up now, I’ll never know what’s on the other side of perseverance and hard work. I have too many plans and dreams to abandon them.

A New Chapter: Building for Myself

I’ve consulted with my fiancée—my biggest supporter through my lowest moments—and decided to pursue working for myself. It’s a path I’ve tried before, but the stakes are higher now with a family to support. I’m determined to make it work this time.

I’m offering services in photography, graphic design, website creation, and more. Whether it’s creating flyers, logos, headshots, or family photo shoots, I’m committed to delivering quality work. I’ve even introduced a creative service package for $200 a month, offering exclusive access to my skills across various asset creation needs.

For those who want to support me on a smaller scale, I’ve set up a Patreon where you can contribute as little as $10 a month. Even sharing my social media posts or engaging with my content helps tremendously. Every interaction makes a difference.

Why I’m Sharing My Story
