Swebeach is the first single off the upcoming self-titled Westkust album, which is out on the 1st March 2019, via via Run For Cover (US), Through Love Records (Germany), and Luxury (ROW).

Westkust are a four piece Swedish indie / alternative rock band from Gothenburg, Sweden. They consist of Philip Söderlind (drums), Julia Bjernelind (vocals / guitars), Pär Carlsson (bass) and Brian Cukrowski (guitars).

Westkust- S/T (RUN FOR COVER RECORDS)

The Swedish noise pop band’s last record was 2015’s Last Forever and since that time 3/5 of the band left (they added two members so they’re now a quartet). This time out there’s less dream pop and more noisy shoegaze and it totally works for them. Guitarist Julia Bjernelind handles all of the vocals this time and man she has a nice set of pipes. Opening cut “Swebeach’ will grab you by your ears and shake you but good while “Rush” slows the tempo down a bit but keeps the guitars set on fuzz throughout, same with the even better “Drive.’ Those three songs prepare you for the gorgeous chiming cut  that is “Daylight.” The thing is  this isn’t noise for the sake of noise, ‘cos despite the amps being set on 11 the tunes are still totally melodic  and whatever member it was that left to let Bjernelind take over vocals full time, well, thank you (again, she’s great!).  Also, don’t miss the lovely “Cotton Skies” as this one reminded me a little of 90’s UK shoegazers Adorable. These 9 songs are mini melodic masterpieces (teenage symphonies to god?) and I really hope this record gets the attention it deserves.
