John Allen Bare, age 62

 Mr. John Allen Bare, age 62 of Roaring River passed away Monday, August 20, 2018 at his home.
Private services will be held at a later date.
Mr. Bare was born November 21, 1955 in Ashe County to Robert Bruce and Geraldine Coldiron Bare.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister; Sandra Kay Church and a brother; Robert "Bob" Bare.
He is survived by his wife; Billie Sue White Bare of the home, two sons; Travis Allen Bare and wife LeeAnn and Nathan Reese Bare and wife Traci all of Wilkesboro, three grandchildren; Lance Allen Bare, Haley Alexis Bare, Reese Eli Bare and one brother Richard Bare and wife Pat of Florida.

Mrs. Betty JoAnn Johnson Prevette, age 80 of North Wilkesboro passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Westwood Hills Nursing and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at Grace Baptist Church in Windy Gap Community with Rev. Scott Welch and Rev. Paul Siceloff officiating. Burial will be in Grace Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mrs. Prevette was born Aril 30, 1938 in Wilkes County to Paul Lester and Era Mae Oakley Johnson.  She attended Turner's Creek Baptist Church in Yadkin County.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband; Gurney Ray Prevette, daughter; Sharon Denise Prevette and three brothers; Coy, Alton and Clyde Johnson.
She is survived by one daughter; Leslie Ann Prevette Gambill and husband Todd of North Wilkesboro, two grandchildren; Remmy Gambill and Ally Gambill, four sisters; Phyllis Call and husband Guilford, Linda Collins and husband William, Janette Johnson all of North Wilkesboro, Freda Sharpe and husband Jerry of Harmony, four brothers; Jerry Johnson, Roy Johnson and wife Beth of North Wilkesboro, Joe Johnson and husband Wanda of Statesville and James Johnson of Mocksville and sisters-in-law; Joan Johnson and Linda Johnson both of North Wilkesboro.
Flowers will be accepted.

  Kenneth D. George, age 101, of the Brushy Mountain Community, passed away Thursday, August 16, 2018 at his home.
He was born in Eltham, New Zealand to Dudley and Leila Annie Roe George.
Mr. George was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 72 years, Mae George; two brothers, Cliff and Gordon George.
Kenneth graduated from the University of Auckland New Zealand with a Master's degree in Physics. He was the scientific Liaison Officer to North America in Washington, D.C. from 1942 until 1944. He was a member of the Atomic Energy Project in Chalk River, Canada from 1944 until 1948; Chief of Physical Research Section for the United States Army Ordnance Corp's Picatinny Arsenal in Dover, New Jersey from 1952 until 1958.
Mr. George attended the Oak Ridge School of Reactor Technology in Oak Ridge, Tennessee from 1960 until 1962. He was Superintendent of Nuclear Operations at Union Carbide Corporation's Sterling Forest Research Center in Tuxedo, New York, developing radioisotopes for nuclear diagnostic applications, until his retirement. He was also a Lifetime Emeritus member of the North American Nuclear Society.
Mr. George enjoyed fishing and snorkeling in the Carribean Sea in front of his and his wife's retirement home in Puerto Rico. In his later years, he enjoyed fishing at the North Carolina beach; and target shooting in his backyard with his son-in-law; and visiting Florida at his son and daughter-in-law's home for the winter.
Mr. George is survived by his son, Gregory George and wife Maureen of Lakeland, Florida; daughter, Gillian Tuttle and husband Glenn of Brushy Mountain Community; and grandchildren, Chris George of Lakeland, Florida, Kimberly George of Linden, Virginia, Geoffrey Tuttle and wife Victoria of Lexington Park, Maryland.
No service will be held.
Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

Gary C. Hamby, age 70, of Wilkesboro, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at his home.
He was born January 22, 1948 in Wilkes County to T.E. "Ed" Hamby, Sr. and Ovie Blackburn Hamby.
Gary was a US Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tommy, Steve and Larry Hamby; and sister, Jeanne South.
Surviving are his wife, Melissa Nichols Hamby; son, Mathew Hamby and wife Robin of North Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Aaron Hamby and Adrienne Hamby both of North Wilkesboro; brother, Paul Hamby; and sisters, Patricia Morgan, Phyllis Whittington, Janice Vanderslice, Cindy Miller.
Funeral service was held August 17,  at Boiling Springs Baptist Church in Purlear with Pastor Joey Moore and Pastor Shannon Critcher officiating.
Burial with military honors   followed in the church cemetery.  
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boiling Springs Baptist Church Restoration Fund, 1390 Boiling Springs Road, Purlear, NC 28665.
Miller Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.  
Pallbearers were Jerry Eller, James Parker, Jeff Phipps, Raymond Eller, Bobby Faw, Mike Pennington, Fred Martin and Steve Jenkins.
Honorary pallbearers were Ronnie Rhoades, Wayne Ferguson, Eugene Eller, John Norman, Bill Church, Bill Staley, Charles Wooten, Robert Huffman and Robert Minton.

Mrs. Geneva Church Cothren, age 95 of Hickory passed away Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Hickory Village Memory Care.
Mrs. Cothern was born June 1, 1923 in Wilkes County to Ped Oscar and Toy Barnette Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde H. Cothren, two sisters; Mariness Triplett and Helen Dukes and three brothers; Hal Church, Cecil Church and Wayne Church.
       She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter; Jennifer Barlow and husband, Mike, a sister; Grace Sebastian and husband, Fred and a granddaughter Carrie Cercone and husband, David.
       Services were  August 15, 2018 at Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Chaplain Kim Fox-Dowell of Catawba County Hospice officiating.                       Entombment was in Scenic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
       Memorials may be made to Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.

James Everett Bailey, Sr., age 46, of Moravian Falls, departed this life on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
He was a 1990 graduate of Wilkes Central High School where he was an outstanding athlete in football, wrestling and track.
He was born December 17, 1971 in Wilkes County to William Sylvester (Sugie) and Jessie Marie Denny Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in High Point.
James enjoyed fishing, laughter, jokes and loved spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother; Jessie Marie Denny; an infant daughter; and his grandparents, Lucy McConniehead, Jesse Denny, Annie Mae Bailey and Bill Bailey.
Surviving are his loving wife, Joan Hunt Bailey of Moravian Falls; two sons, James Everett Bailey, Jr. (J.J.) of Burlington, Trenton Isaiah Hunt of the home; two daughters, Tatyana Crecy of Powder Springs, Georgia, Aniyah Elizabeth Bailey of the home; his father, William Bailey (Sugie) of Wilkesboro; grandchild, Aaliyah Jayla Bailey; three sisters, Sharon Barr and husband Tony of Jamestown, Nikki Graham of North Wilkesboro, Tonya King of Boonville; brother, William Denny (Squeaky) of North Wilkesboro; sister-in-law, Sue Ellen Grimes of Boone; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral service was held  August 18, at Miller Funeral Chapel with Rev. Casey Walker, Dr. Tony Barr, Rev. Roy Brown and Rev. Ronald Howell officiating.
Burial   followed in Woodlawn Cemetery.  Flowers will be accepted.
