Headcanon: When Caspian finds Lucy, Edmund & Eustace it’s because he’s been following Red’s compass & when they got to this (seemingly random) patch of sea it started spinning like crazy & he told everyone to look around to try & see why, that’s when they noticed 3 overboard. Also it’s likely they didn’t need directions to Argoth’s place cuz the compass had found a direction & was pointing them there.
Ooh yes!
I can just picture Caspian, staring longingly at the compass, thinking of Red like the sad, romantic puppy he is, when suddenly it starts spinning.
Also 100% if he had just looked at the compass, then he wouldn’t have had to threaten Argoth (Although, then Edmund wouldn’t have shaken the diary off of him and Red would have been sad to lose it)
But the poor guy was so worried for Red that he didn’t even stop to think about the compass. I’m convinced that Aslan allotted the Narnian royals one (1) brain cell to share amongst them all, and Red was using it to plot her escape at that exact moment.

Caspian the Seafarer & Red the Stargazer

U mentioned how Red’s compass has scarcely left Caspian’s person since they parted ways & I can already imagine him holding it in times of uncertainty, or when he misses her & hoping it would stop gently spinning & give him a direction. Until one day, after peace has been made & there looks to be no more battles to fight & he glances down at his belt & notices the compass has stopped moving. It’s picked a direction. He all but abandons the whatever he was doing & just starts haphazardly 1/2
2/2 sprinting that way, almost running into things & people & almost running right off the edge of the land, into the sea. He’s being pointed to the ocean, the arrow unwavering. Now he’s stuck. He can’t just abandon Narnia, even if destiny or Aslan or his heart is telling him to. He tells them to prepare ships, tho he can’t say why & the arrow doesn’t falter. Then he looks on a map of where he’s being lead & sees the Lone Islands & remembers the 7 lords. He hopes to find more than just them.
-
So this made me think - What if Caspian wrote letters to Red like she wrote to him?
"I have kept your compass near at all times. It's as if I might bring you to Narnia again... I have oft considered taking up Queen Susan's Horn so that I may make some attempt to call you back to me, but something in my heart warns me against it. Perhaps Aslan Himself..."
"The compass has set me on a path to the North, where Giants await. May Aslan watch over me, I do not know what shall await us there."
"The giants of the North surrendered, my love. With no conditions or demands, I might add. Truly, Aslan was watching over us. I count the days until I may see you again. I hope it shall be in my lifetime, and that I shall not have to wait until we meet in Aslan’s Country."
"The compass points south, now. The Calormenes whom you defeated in your Golden Age have grown brazen once more, all these centuries later. Perhaps they have forgotten their fear of the Red Lady, but I have spoken with the King of Archenland, and we have made plans to stop the approach across the desert."
"We defeated the Calormen army, dear (Y/N). I brought your cloak along to battle, both as a symbol of the previous victory over them... and, I must admit, to give myself the feeling that you were there alongside me."
"There is peace now, my love. There has been for some time... But it seems that there is more required of me, in the East, for yesterday, the compass ceased to spin. We have begun work on a ship, and we shall follow wherever the compass leads. I can only pray that I will find you there... Perhaps I am meant to find the Seven Lost Lords. Perhaps I am simply meant to sail. And so I shall sail, until I am where I am meant to be."

Okay I have a question: since Red is supposed to come from this century, what would be some things from our world/time that she would be eager to tell her siblings and Caspian about?
(I know there’s a part of the novel part of the Voyager where Caspian is geeking out about the earth being round and all and I couldn’t help but imagine what else he’d geek out about)
Ooh, that's an interesting question! In the series, she mostly wanted to keep Narnia and her world separate so for the most part, she avoided talking about it.
There was once when she mentioned to Oreius and later to Caspian the difference in the stars, and she accidentally slipped up at the beginning of VotDT when she mentioned a rollercoaster
But, if she had gone more in depth, I think she would have told them more about stars, how the logistics of their worlds differ, etc.
In most fics where a modern reader falls into a fantasy world, there's usually a big deal about phones and technology, but I think for Red, she would want to explain big picture stuff, mostly because she knows that's what the others would appreciate, like Caspian being fascinated with the concept of a round world.
So Red would tell them about the things she learned at school, and about how life works without magic. She'd tell them stories about ships without sails, powered by hearts of fire and lightning, and about spyglasses so large that they're housed in little turrets on mountain tops to look up into the night sky and bring back portraits of the stars; stars which aren't alive, but are magical in their own way, lingering in the vast void of a place beyond. She would tell them about the oceans, where no merfolk stayed, no sea serpents sank vessels, but still where many mysteries lay, tales of sunken ships in icy waters, unexplored places in the darkest trenches, and a trio of islands, between which many crafts met their doom.
Red romanticizes the ordinary things. Phones are neat and all, but Caspian and her family probably wouldn't understand that anyways. She wants to tell them of the things in her world and time which feel so impossible that they very well could be from Narnia; the things that, when she thinks about them, almost make her feel at home.

Caspian, in the middle of the night: “you’re so cute” Red, half asleep, curling into Caspian’s chest: “I could kick your ass right now” Caspian, kissing her forehead & staring down at her adoringly “yeah, I know”
Caspian: You are most beautiful...
Red, basically asleep at this point: I've slaughtered armies....
Caspian: I know, darling 😍

We know Caspian knows some hand-to-hand combat from the prison break scene from votdt and we know Red trained him in sword fighting sooo...
Just imagine her calling him to her one day so he arrives (w his sword on his hip) & is surprised to find her unarmed. She tells him to lay down his sword & he’s confused but he does it, he then asks what they’re doing. She says training, but right as he asks her why she’d told him to lay down his sword suddenly she grabs his by the shirt, the world spins & a moment later all he can see is the sky & Red grinning down at him. “Like I said, training.”
(I can kinda see him worrying it might be inappropriate for him to be this close & physical w a lady but at the same time he was 19 & being thrown around by his crush like a rag doll (if he wasn’t in love w her before he certainly was now) & he needed to know how to defend himself, it would be foolish not to train w her as much as possible given he’s a military legend)
Caspian: Are you sure this is appropriate? 😳😳
Red: What exactly do you expect to do if you lose your weapon? Ask nicely for the murderous Telmarine to let you pick it back up? Lol. Square up, princey let's go
Although let's be real, once she pinned him and her brain got out of "fight mode," Red is just as flustered as he is at how close they are. 😂
This is kind of a rabbit trail, but I think some of the races that value more brute strength combat types, like the minotaurs, would show up and really cheer them on, like fully encouraging what are essentially brawls and/or wrestling matches just for she show of strength. Their ancestors may have fought with the White Witch, but with a warrior like Red, they can see why they lost 😂

I feel like in Calormen the history of the Golden Age would be framed differently, like in ~official~ historical texts Red is still referred to as The Red Lady but might be known more colloquially as The Red Dread or Queen _ the Dread, since she’s highly credited with their history’s most significant military defeat. I also imagine when Caspian went to battle wearing her cloak/shroud the Calormen’s who knew their history silently shit cuz they remembered Cas actually MET this woman in person, was likely trained by her & now he has the combined forces of Narnia & Telmar backing him. (Also am I the only one who feels a lil something about him pulling that thing out again after they put it away?? Like after not seeing her for so long, he misses her, and the memories attached to the cloak are so dreadful but it’s also hers, it was hers for years & it was a sign of her strength, idk dude just gets me)
Oh for sure! There al all KINDS of emotions around Caspian and the cloak! After all, it was the last thing he really had of hers, other than her weapons.
I don't know that he would necessarily wear it into battle himself, he might feel like that would be encroaching on Red's mantle and the title/role that she made for herself, but I imagine him hoisting it up on a pole like a banner, that way the whole battle field could see it.
And the Calormenes definitely know their history... and even just the sight of that would be enough to strike fear into their hearts. Even if Red isn't physically with the Narnian army, the Calormen army knows that this is the natiom of the Red Lady and not to be trifled with.
Also yes, Caspian bringing her cloak with him on his voyage?? He is such a softie. In those first few weeks of the voyage he definitely would bring it out of the cabinet and just ever so gently touch it, as if somehow he could reach through worlds and take her hand...

Imagine (between chapters or off page) Miraz having nightmares/visions of the Red Lady. Like he’s having a dream, he’s sitting on the throne but when he looks around all of his noblemen have bolts in their hearts before he looks up & sees the Red Lady levelling the crossbow at him before he wakes with a start. He sees a flash of red in the corner of his eye & starts looking more paranoid. Right before the meeting with Edmund the lack of sleep catches up with him & he dozes off for a moment...
Before a bloody fist drives three bolts into the table in front of his & suddenly he’s eye-to-eye with the dead queen, the same fierce expression she had the night of the attack before she says darkly “I think these are yours” before he’s woken by one of his generals, who he all but pulls his sword on. He shivers when Edmund drops the bolts in front of irl. Whenever he’s in the same room as the body for too long he shivers, not from cold but from a magic to which he is unfamiliar & frightened of
---
Ooh I love this 😱😱
I definitely think this happened in the story canon between chapters, like Miraz went to gloat over the Red Lady because "he" killed a legend (even though it was actually his soldiers, we all know he would take credit for it).
And these dreams could be another reason why his council starts to despise him. But of course, they'd never just say that, not even to each other.
"It appears our king is troubled... more so than usual. What a shame... Some might think he is... unfit to lead."
"The king would never show weakness in front of the people, Lord Sopespian."
"But of course, General..."
Murmured comments in passing, diplomatically expressing their concern... but the nightmares and paranoia only add to their belief that Miraz needs to... ahem... begone.
Let me tell you, he definitely sat and stared at those arrows wayyyy too long after the Narnian diplomats left, but as soon as someone sort of broke that trance, he's back to his paranoia and anger.
"...My Lord?"
"Get those out of my sight. Now!"
"Of course, my Lord.... is everything.... well with you?"
"And what is meant by that, Baron Gregiore?"
"Nothing, my King..."
But Aslan definitely would't let Miraz get away with the murder of His Oracle guilt free 😏
And when you think about it, it's only right that Miraz should have dreams while Red can't...

Legend has it Red beat a legendary Minotaur in a wrestling match during the golden, thus preventing a war (like the one-on-one/Peter v Miraz fight). Red refuses to confirm nor deny it. She’s having too much fun.
Anybody asks her, all they get is little smile that's just absolutely infuriating because it gives away NOTHING and a "That is how the legend goes, isn't it?"
She's a stone wall and they'll get neither a yea nor nay from her on that one.
(Maybe she'll tell Caspian sometime if he asks really nicely...)

Just thought of this, but something that might cause ~ tension ~ between the characters later: y’know how Edmund keeps being reminded of the chain of command on the ship/in Narnia now that Caspian’s king? Cas doesn’t usually say much when Drinian mentions it to Ed cuz he feels kinda awkward about it, like he’s it technically true but he’s still doubting himself as king? Well while Red is likely to make commands sometimes she slips or a suggestion sounds to strong & Drinians (respectfully) reminds her Cas is in charge Cas is quick to be like ‘it’s alright’ & ‘I trust her judgement’. It’s a subconscious thing, to vocalise his support of her, but it’s noticed- particularly by her siblings. So when Ed is being influenced by the mist he might bring it up angrily- ‘why does she get to give orders? Just cuz your in love with her!’ Just an idea of what conflict might come? Don’t have to go w it if u don’t wanna! (Also it’s 4am so I might be talking nonsense)
Oh yes, I can totally see this happening! Caspian may be in charge, but he always has that little soft spot for Red. After all, he wanted to give up command to her when she introduced herself at the Dancing Lawn (and he totally would have if she hadn't expressly declined).
So he definitely defers to her a little more than he should 😂
And that definitely comes into play later because of how it ties into Edmund’s own personal issues...
I'm definitely loving this!

Head: Caspian wouldn’t want to be seen acting ‘improperly’ w Red, he wouldn’t want to put her honour in question, he needs to look respectable to his crew, he’s also a shy boi who hasn’t seen his crush & 3 years & still gets flustered around her. Plus the arrangements were discussed, there’s no need for it. Heart: sh... sha... share... hammock
100% yes 😂😂😂 He was already nervous about being alone with her in the cabin with the door closed 😱😱😱 because in his mind that was pushing it a little, but he was counting on the crew knowing both his honor and Red's ability to hold her own 😂
But poor lad definitely just wants to cuddle, he's got those perpetual heart eyes 💖

As much as we (read: me) like to talk about Red being chaotic/bold/lil bit scary, it’s not just her. C’mon, we’ve all seen it, Caspian can be fierce. We saw it mostly in Prince Caspian & while it looks like he’s mellowed out in recent years we still saw some of it in VotDT, moments when he snaps & confronts & bites back, raises his voice & stands his ground... and you better believe Red’s off to the side somewhere between sweating & swooning. Like we talk about Cas having heart eyes for her but it’s mutual. Nothing makes her knees go weak like Caspian’s King Voice™️ & vice verca. {They love each other as King & Queen, fierce & noble & dignified but I love the idea of them adoring each other just as much when they’re just... Cas & Red. Just being people, being silly, making mistakes, holding hands} But heaven forbid anyone manage to piss them both off cuz honey they be scary, their combined ferocity & Disappointment™️ could crush even the bravest. (If they ever got mad at each other? Half the crew’s tempted to abandon ship)
Oh for sure! That's part of why they're such a good match. They both adore each other, but they've both got that fire inside of them that makes them great soldiers and great leaders.
Any instance of Caspian standing firm and showing that harder side, you can bet Red is feeling some heart flutters...
But like Caspian and Red going to battle together? Withstanding harsh times together? They have that silent solidarity and strong reassurance in each other, together in those sparse, quiet moments.
But heaven forbid the intensity that lives inside each of them ever be aimed at each other... I can't see it ever getting to a point where it's really bad, but even their small arguments are scary to outsiders, just because of how fierce each of them can be individually.

One thing I love is how Ed & Red are both equal parts mature & childish, they balance each other out, it’s what they did all through the golden age. Like yeah, Red’s poise is almost unmatched, & Ed’s renowned for his diplomacy, but that doesn’t mean they’re not gonna try throwing Red’s hooped earrings to catch on Peter’s crown. “There isn’t a ‘dumb twin’ or a ‘smart twin’... we just take turns.” lmao. Caspian’s only ever seen them when Red looks older so he’s seen less of the dynamic but listening to them regail stories slowly reveal how chaotic she can really be (same for Eustace, she’s become a kinda older sibling on the journey & shes been acting pretty sensibly to him so it comes as a shock). Just imagine Ed, Lu & Red reminiscing on the deck as Cas & Eus are about & Red says something about being ~the oldest sibling~ on board & how it means she’s in charge (jokingly) & Ed busts a gut before being like “you mean like that time I left you in charge for all of 2 minutes & I came back to you in a knife fight with a Telmarine diplomat? & when I asked what you were doing you said ‘negotiating’? You mean like that time?” “That was like a thousand years ago, I’ve grown since then” “you were older than you are now!” “I matured better the second time around”. Reactions may vary from laughter to intrigue to horror.
I love everything about this 😂 I like to think that they've kept up the Twin™️ energy even though their ages are different now. It's definitely somewhat jarring for others who never saw them like that, but Lucy is so used to it 😂
Caspian and Eustace though are definitely going to be confused haha

I fully, 100% believe Caspian would hand over the keys to Narnia if only Red would let him. Like he could watch her eat toast & feel under-qualified to be king. Meanwhile if Red ever found out how truly insecure he is about his abilities as a ruler she’s have to resist the urge to spend every breath thereafter Hyping Him tf Up for the rest of their lives cuz she can see how good he is for their people & how beloved he is & how hard he works & it kills her to know he can’t see what she sees
Aww poor Caspian! If Red found out he was feeling that way, she would probably like throw him a whole feast or a ball to show him how much his people love him and need him, with her own not-so-subtle reminder that Aslan specifically chose him to be king haha

Concept: Red & the Pevensie’s... experiencing the Cain Instinct™️
Oh gosh, I can see this being really prominent in the Golden Age!
After a long, boring council meeting, just the urge to smack someone over the head and make a run for it down some secret passageway and hope the Fauns don't snitch 😂
I mean, Edmund did have a habit of stealing Red's crown a lot, that was probably his way of channeling that.
But during sparring... Oh yes.
"Hey! You didn't have to hit me that hard!"
"I slipped."
"You slipped??? You're a soldier!"
"Soldiers slip too, I don't know what to tell you... Ow!"
"I slipped too."
