The tenth anniversary edition of In Circles is perfect. It's not unusual for me to cry during songs, especially not orchestral pieces that convey a lot of emotion, but this one gets me without fail.

I'm obsessed with how, as the lyrics begin, Red's singing is underscored by a tremolo that sounds like a fly buzzing. The contrabass, and eventually the rest of the orchestra, add a lingering richness that's absolutely beautiful. Each note lasts. Given that it's another take on the song, I expected it'd add some sort of bite - it's a song associated with a boss fight. However, the mellowness/melancholy is perfect.

And don't get me started on the (roughly) two minute mark. Something I love about orchestras is the gut punch they can provide audiences. As a violinist, I'm familiar with getting lost in the music - personal feelings mix with the piece and the result is so alive. As an audience member, I'm thankful I'm able to get that feeling from players. This version of In Circles swells into a fantastic combination between the orchestra and Red. It feels alive, emotionally intense in the way a letting out a wail is. It's a trait shared with the original that simply works with the context of the song. And the execution of this version, holding the emotion for longer, works in its favor. It's this gorgeous orchestral that slowly fades away.
