I see Angelina Jolie and you don't have to tell me twice, Imma watch it as soon as I can. ⚠️ Minor Spoilers Ahead! ⚠️ Those Who Wish Me Dead tells the story of how smokejumper Hannah Faber (Jolie) saves the life of Connor Casserly (Finn Little) who was on the run after witnessing the murder of his father. Still recovering from her trauma, Hannah tries her best to push through her past as she braves through the blazing man-made forest fire so she can protect Connor. It's been a while since I've seen Angelina in any action projects. While this film doesn't showcase heavy action or stunts like those of Tomb Raider, Mr. & Mrs. Smith or Salt, it's a nice change of pace as you see Angelina in her element again, only this time, she isn't a skilled combatant. What I loved about her performance here is how she revealed her vulnerable side. After being a strong female lead for action films, we see her being protective, friendly, even fearing for her life at the sight of fire. This project allowed her to show a side that many of us don't see and we genuinely appreciate her more for it. Plot-wise, I must say, it kept me on my toes. While the film was about Hannah, it also followed the assassins who killed Connor's father and was now tracking him down after finding out that he survived. It was a thrilling watch because as you witness how Hannah and Connor become close, you also see how things are escalating from the other side. This approach made the film more balanced as it wasn't one-sided in terms of perspective. It also made the ending more fulfilling because you see how the stakes went higher as the story progressed. However, I do have two issues. One, how Connor's father's dying wish was realized. His last words were for Connor to share the information he gave to the media. And as the media were seen arriving at the scene towards the end, we never got to see or hear what it was all about. Two, the disconnect of the title itself. It wasn't about wishing Hannah dead per se, but simply getting to Connor. Overall, it was a good watch. A bit of a slow start but it definitely picks up the pace later on.
