Totally out of left-field random thought, but if there's one thing I've always loathed about Gears of War critics, it's how they always look down on and mischaracterize the game as some shallow, dudebro overcompensating-macho game.

Which first of all, fuck you I LOVE playing as a hulking mass of muscle with hands the size of a baseball glove. I LOVE the chainsaw bayonet and sawing grubs in half.

But second of all, it's pretty clear when you play the game that it handles a lot of themes or issues in an insightful way. Gears 2 has the suicide of a man who was thought to be a complete juggernaut (and how the trauma of his torture broke him), how Dom suffers the grief of his wife being horrifically experimented on to the point of a vegetative state and Marcus comforts him and allows him to grieve despite being in a war situation. Gears 3 shows the effect of Dom hiding that grief to the point where he kills himself to save Marcus, Dizzy, Anya, and Sam. And Gears 4 clearly shows that all these barbaric events turned Marcus into a strict, stubborn father who has a poor relationship with his own son JD after Anya died.

Like I don't have any issues with people who don't like the game, but I sure do have issues with people who think it's supposed to be some over-masculine sausage fest with no depth.
