#Texas toast cookie

39 for whichever ship you want! :]
39. When and how did they admit that they loved each other? If they haven’t yet, why?
A bit of Texas Toast, perchance?
You'd think after living together in housemate-lifepartner bliss for so long you think they would have said I love you by now, or at least it's to the point where it "doesn't need to be said" but. These two can be real damn oblivious despite being such smart cookies otherwise. This sort of delicate balance of more-than-cowokers but not quite knowing how to label their living situation, I think both of them realized they were in love w the other early on but were afraid of upsetting that balance.
Pyro realizes they love Engie one night while he's reading to them.
Engie realizes he loves Pyro not during any special moment. He falls in love quietly, on the porch, where they're both just sitting silent and watching the fireflies and Engie realizes this is how he wants things to be for the rest of his life. But he's not sure Pyro cares about him in the same way--he thinks he knows them the best out of anyone, but they're inherently a mystery, and he wonders if he can really take a guess what's going on in the enigma of their mind. Maybe they just see him as family, instead of how how he'd want them to see him.
Pyro's not sure how to express themself, doesn't think they've ever been in love before, if this is truly love. Usually, if they'd like to sort out their feelings they'd talk to Engie about it, but they're worried about embarrassing themself, that Engie will come back and explain "that's just how friends think about one another." It all boils over one night when Engie gets himself injured on one of his own inventions. He's careful, at least compared to some, but his sense of self preservation is rather thin and one of the anti-friendly-fire safeties malfunctions and he ends up with a gut full of lead. Pyro pulls him out of the workshop, get him set up best they can, and then goes back into the workshop to smash the offending prototype with a sledgehammer until it's a bunch of ity bity pieces.
After that, it's a lot of staying by his bedside, saying please don't leave, I love you, and a Engie being delirious and shocked saying you love me? They both feel a little foolish, but mostly relieved, and work things up from there.

21 and 39 ❤️
21. I’d have to say my tattoos and ever changing hair and maybe my ability to make people comfortable and feel open to telling me things ! It’s nice to know that I have that kind of presence haha
39. Oh god lol. I’m a total fat ass and I love sweets so this is hard… but I’d have to say my top two favorite common flavors are cookie dough or mint chocolate chip or chunk. However, at my local ice cream shop, they make a ton of homemade and unique flavors… my two faves there are probably the Texas Doctor (Dr pepper ice cream with praline pecans) or Bees Knees (lavender with honey ice cream). They also have this amazing French toast ice cream… im drooling okay, I’ll stop lol

since you said texas toast is vegeta’s fav little snack, what about bulma and goku? *bulma likes strawberries and also pistachio ice cream i just know it ok*
i wouldn't say it's quite his favorite, he just likes it a lot. vegeta and slim jims are a match made in heaven
bulma, my sweet babygirl, loves these little strawberry cookies i make. they're little flower shaped cookie cups that i fill with cream cheese frosting. she loves them more than she loves me, and that's why i don't make them more than twice a year 😌
goku loves himself just about anything honestly, but for a lil snacky snack he does like corn dogs. he likes the nugget version more since he doesn't have to worry about choking on a stick

Way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
Today we drove up to Roswell, where P lived from about age 10 to 17 - formative years that included garage jams with Black Ace, driving lessons with Big Blue, and debates over the price of lawn care with the lady down the street. We started with breakfast at Fellows, a super cute old house with a big tree growing up through the front deck. (It looks like the little old downtown may have been re-zoned - many craftsman homes now house restaurants, shops, and other businesses.) Fellows has lots of different toasts, and that seemed like the perfect thing to keep us going without putting us to sleep. P had avocado with sunflower sprouts, and I had heirloom tomato. (Yes, I broke my rule about not bothering with tomatoes in restaurants, and it was worth it.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The town has grown a lot - the population has nearly doubled since he left in 1993, so there are obviously new areas, but the old areas seem to be just the same. Once P got his bearings, he knew his way around, and easily found his old elementary school, his middle school, and both of the high schools he attended. While the middle school has since moved, the old location is still there, complete with sign that says Welco e back, huskies! P felt very welcoe.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The neighborhood where they lived was mostly unchanged, just with bigger trees, and to P's memory, smaller hills. (Everything seems so much bigger when you're so much smaller.) Their house has been painted and a new fence put in, but the monkey grass he remembers planting with his dad still lines the driveway, and we could see a swing still in the big tree in the backyard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the afternoon, we finally made it down to the river - the actual Chattahoochee! (Full disclosure: I did not know that was a real place you could go to until I saw the signs; I only knew the song. Since marrying a southerner/midwesterner, I have learned that many places that seem made up are not - see also: Kalamazoo.) We'd had a false start earlier in the day due to a full parking lot - who'd have thought there would be a ton of people at the river on a beautiful Sunday just before the kids go back to school? - but managed to park not too far away and walk down. P remembers rickety stairs past the mill and down to the waterfall, but there's now a nice park and paved paths down to the water. It used to be much harder to access, so it was a favorite hangout for teens; the pipe that P once painted a rainbow on with Laura is still there, though the rainbow is no longer. He never knew how much that muddy water meant to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the way home, we realized that we were "just a few miles from the big chicken!", so I insisted we go. The big chicken is BIG. And it MOVES. It's pretty glorious, and easy to understand how it attained the landmark status it still enjoys today. We are, however, puzzled that Atlanta native Chick-fil-A has not scooped up that building.
Tumblr media
Dinner was at Planta Queen, which is the Asian-based sister restaurant of the Planta we went to with the cousins in Chicago. Dinner was great, and we wrapped it up with their dessert special, a big cookie. (Are we actually in Texas?) The cookie was in fact big, but also largely underdone, and we left kind of wishing we'd gone back to Paolo's for dessert instead. Lesson learned: gelato > vegan cookie, probably in all cases.

Pecan Nuts: Nature's Rich and Nutrient-Packed Gem
Pecan Nuts: Nature's Rich and Nutrient-Packed Gem Pecan Nuts: A Bounty of Flavor and Nutrition Nestled amid the sprawling orchards of the Southern United States, pecan trees bestow upon us a bountiful harvest of nature's golden gems – pecan nuts. These delectable nuts, renowned for their rich, buttery flavor and crunchy texture, have earned a special place in culinary traditions and healthy diets alike. Let's delve into the world of pecan nuts, exploring their taste, nutrition, and the myriad of benefits they offer.
Origins and Cultivation The pecan tree, native to North America, bears oval-shaped nuts that are a culinary treasure. Cultivated primarily in regions with warm climates, such as Texas, Georgia, and Louisiana, pecan trees thrive in fertile soil and ample sunlight. Harvested in the fall months, pecans are carefully shelled to reveal the creamy, ivory-colored kernels within.
Nutritional Riches Pecan nuts are not only a delight to the taste buds but also a nutritional powerhouse. Rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, pecans provide a satisfying crunch while offering benefits for cardiovascular health. Additionally, they are packed with dietary fiber, promoting digestive health and aiding in weight management by promoting feelings of fullness.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, pecans are a good source of essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin E, manganese, and copper. Vitamin E, in particular, serves as a potent antioxidant, protecting cells from oxidative damage and supporting overall immune function. Manganese and copper play vital roles in metabolism, bone health, and the formation of connective tissues.
This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is pecan-01-2.jpg Health Benefits Heart Health: The monounsaturated fats in pecans, along with their low levels of saturated fats, have been associated with a reduced risk of heart disease. Regular consumption of pecans may help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and improve overall heart health. Weight Management: Despite being calorie-dense, pecans' high fiber content can aid in weight management by promoting satiety and reducing overall calorie intake. Incorporating pecans into a balanced diet may support healthy weight loss and maintenance. Antioxidant Properties: Pecan nuts are rich in antioxidants, including vitamin E and phenolic compounds, which help combat oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. These antioxidants play a crucial role in reducing the risk of chronic diseases and supporting overall well-being. Brain Health: The omega-3 fatty acids found in pecans may contribute to brain health and cognitive function. Consuming pecans as part of a balanced diet may help support memory, concentration, and overall brain function, particularly as we age. Incorporating Pecans Into Your Diet Pecans' versatility makes them a delightful addition to a wide range of dishes. Whether enjoyed raw as a wholesome snack, toasted and sprinkled over salads, or incorporated into baked goods like pies, cookies, and bread, pecans add a delightful crunch and nutty flavor to any recipe. They also pair well with savory dishes such as roasted vegetables or grain-based salads, offering a contrast in texture and a depth of flavor.

What are the nutritional benefits of pecan nuts? Pecan nuts are rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, dietary fiber, vitamins (such as vitamin E), and minerals (including manganese and copper). They offer numerous health benefits, including supporting heart health, aiding in weight management, and providing antioxidants to combat oxidative stress.
How do pecan nuts contribute to heart health? The monounsaturated fats in pecan nuts, along with their low levels of saturated fats, help reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and support overall heart health. Additionally, pecans contain antioxidants that contribute to cardiovascular well-being.

Family Time - Colleyville, TX
Tumblr media
We arrived in Colleyville on the 17th, both my younger sisters and their families are in the area, as well as my folks - lots of people to hang out with. Unfortunately, I am TERRIBLE about getting pictures when we are all together, so I didn't get one of all of us on Thanksgiving (maybe next time).
Doug surprised me for our anniversary - our kids drove down from Denver - what a great surprise that was. Plus, they got to see their grandparents and a bunch of cousins, aunts, and uncles. Dan hadn't been to Texas in 14 years! It was really nice having them here.
Tumblr media
Birthday celebration for my niece, Shelby, and my brother-in-law, Ronnie on Tuesday the 21st.
Tumblr media
Thanksgiving cookies - my sister, Julie, is so clever!
Tumblr media
I managed to get a picture of the table....but, not of anything else on Thanksgiving. Total failure!
Tumblr media
I think Buddy might have had too much turkey and pie - what a personality this dog has!
Tumblr media
A little champagne to toast our 40th anniversary!
Oh, wait, I do have a couple of pictures with PEOPLE in them:
Tumblr media
Dan and Juniper.
Tumblr media
Eric and Dan, you can tell they are related!
Tumblr media
Julie and Juniper.
Tumblr media
Rachel, Grandma Sally, Grandpa Dick, Dan, Doug, and myself - it has been a long, long time since the six of us have been together.
We had a great time - we played pickle ball, cards, and just enjoyed hanging out together. Thanks to everyone for taking such good care of us!

I Still Don’t Care For White Couches
Here’s a reality check that I think a lot of women need.
Girls…
For as long as both you and your partner work, or are in school, or have little kids-
And listen close-
The house is gonna be messy.
Please stop stressing about the mess, because you are far too important for that.
I understand that most of us were conditioned from an early age to have everything look like a damn Instagram photo but the reality is that when you come home from work or school or finally put the kids to sleep, and your partner comes home from work or school or finally putting the kids to sleep, neither of you are gonna want to clean.
There are gonna be days where the dishes in the sink pile up. There are gonna be days where the laundry bin is way too full. There are gonna be days where yeah sometimes you walk into the kitchen and realize you forgot to clean up the food mess from dinner last night.
But that’s okay.
I don’t know why social media has led us to believe that every part of our lives must be absolutely flawlessly spotless and perfect, but it isn’t true.
And frankly, I would rather live in a place that looks like a home.
I’ll take the kids putting those obnoxious-ass stickers all over the dresser that I can’t peel off before I take a sad and lifeless home with no proof that my family existed.
Of course I want my kids to grow up in a home that feels clean, but clean means that there’s no cigarette butts on the porch or liquor bottles on the side tables. The house will smell like fresh baked cookies and Texas toast and butter chicken, not some expensive signature scent of a celebrity that doesn’t even know me.
My home will not have a completely refined color palette because there are too many books on the shelves and too many hanged pictures of our loved ones on the walls. Our blankets will be comfortable and warming before they are pretty.
And yes, sometimes there will still be vacuuming to do while I’m cuddled up with him, watching our shows and getting crumbs all over the sofa when it is almost 3 am and we’re both exhausted but have been dying to watch the newest episode.
The house will go through seasons. Postpartum depression, then spring cleaning, then back to school, then Christmas, then that big party where you host and hate every minute of it but love the feeling you get when you see everybody smiling, then your teen will go through that weird anime phase, and then the littles are gonna end up finding the glitter jars, you get it. Dirty, clean, rinse, repeat.
My children will never have to worry about having sheets on their mattress or fresh socks on their little toes.
But I want my children to know what it is lay down on the couch that isn’t pretty or new but DAMN is it comfy, and I want them to not have a panic attack over spilled chocolate milk on my carpet.
I don’t want them to hyperventilate when eventually they get their tomato soup and cheesy sandwiches on my kitchen table.
I don’t want there to be marks on their skin as punishment for their existence putting a mark on this world.
So yeah, some days, I’m gonna not do anything about the laundry baskets on the couch or the toys all over the living room floor. I’m probably never gonna get that grape juice stain fully out of the rug, or scrub the glitter out of their knitted sweaters.
To be loved is to be changed, or at least I think that’s how the saying goes.
And I’ll be damned before this home and the people in it aren’t loved.

Puffed French Toast
Tumblr media
This recipe, like all great recipes, was first used out of desperation. Desperation and an overflow of bread.  And it so happens to be one of the recipes that has some of my fondest memories. I swear, whenever I feel a little bummed and lonely for Disney, these are my pick-me-ups, my hug-on-a-plate. Just back from Disney, I was in what I call the "Disney Blues."  People who've been are, I'm sure, familiar with it.  Symptoms of "Disney Blues" usually include listening to music from the park constantly, re-watching favorite Disney movies, habitually checking ride line apps on your cell phone to just to see how long ride waits are (like it matters), and dwelling on irrational, pointless thoughts like "Right now, somebody's FastPass for (insert favorite ride) just became active and now they're on the ride and I'm not." I myself freely admit, I'm guilty of all some of these offenses.
Tumblr media
Anyway, it was the morning, I was in the midst of full-swing Disney Blues, and trying to recreate Disney in any way possible.  Usually this meant making my favorite foods into a Mickey shape. In the last week, we'd had Mickey-shaped pizza, Mickey-shaped cookies, Mickey-shaped sandwiches... If it could be made to the face of Mickey, I did it. My plan of attack this morning was to break out the Mickey cookie cutter and make toast shaped like Mickey. Not all that creative, but it was early and I'm not a good morning thinker. Then, out of the sleepy fog I was operating in, it occurred to me... Extra bread is perfect for French toast. French toast, which I've never made before and had only a rough idea of what went into making it. Surely Mickey had a solution... And he did. I cracked out my Mickey Cookbook and found this amazing recipe for Puffed French Toast from Crystal Palace.  As soon as the first batch of toast hit the frying pan, it smelled just like every food court and restaurant at the Magic Kingdom during breakfast. Of course it tasted so Disney, sweet and decadent, heavy without being filling. I almost felt like it was time to go conquer the parks after breakfast. Tons of memories came flooding back like they'd happened yesterday, the castle lit up at night, getting your first glimpse of EPCOT on the way to your hotel to check in, walking with a full tummy from Tusker House to Dinosaur because you're a little too full for Everest... This recipe made me so happy, and brought back so many amazing memories, it was the inspiration for me to seek out other Disney recipes And that inspiration inflated my Disney recipe collection from just two little cookbooks to over 1,500 recipes that are direct from Disney, not to mention being on a first-name basis with the customer service rep (and several cast members, even a chef or two) of various restaurants around the The World. And who would have thought all of that would come from too much Wonder Bread? :) ~~~~  °o°  ~~~~ Puffed French Toast As is served at The Crystal Palace, Magic Kingdom - 2 whole eggs - 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar - 1/2 teaspoon salt - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract - 2 cups milk - 1 cup flour - 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder - 12 slices of bread (Texas-style toast is used at Disney) - Butter or oil for frying - 4 teaspoons cinnamon - 3/4 cup sugar Mix eggs, 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar, salt, vanilla, and milk until well blended and a creamy yellow. Slowly add flour and baking powder and mix until very few lumps remain. Dip bread slices in batter, allowing the extra to drip off.  If you're using thin bread, do not allow the bread to soak. Fry bread in a hot pan using butter or oil (enough to keep the bottom of the pan coated) on both sides until golden brown. Remove from heat to drain on paper towels for about 30 seconds. For the best toast, fry one side for about 1-2 minutes, flip and fry for 1 minute, then remove from heat. The fewer times the bread is flipped, the fluffier the toast and the better the coating. Meanwhile, combine cinnamon with 3/4 cup sugar. After toast has drained, coat both sides with cinnamon sugar mixture.  Serve warm. Read the full article
