The strangest version of The Brave Little Toaster
This is the cover, and some very low resolution sleeve illustrations for the Thai version of The Brave Little Toaster. There are some funny quirks with the character designs…the Toaster is red, the Lamp has a shade rather than a gooseneck, and the old Hoover is a shop-vac style canister! (Which makes sense as upright models have never been common in Asia due to the types of flooring used) I would love to find a copy of this edition, as it’s only only major version of the book that I’m missing!

The Miracle of Teddy Bear Ep 1 Stray Thoughts
So, @lurkingshan and @twig-tea say this is good enough that Shan was willing to cash in 9 hours of her coupons to make sure I watch it. Let's see if this show has a very good bear.
I still have trauma from Memory in the Letter. That show also featured rare stellar phenomena as the inciting incident.
The bear is the narrator and is named Tofu.
This dog's reaction is totally reasonable.
Whoa Inn Sarin looks different.
"This is the story of a boy...and a bear..."
What in The Brave Little Toaster (1987) is going on??
"You're beautiful. It's a shame you're a thief." Mr. Security Guard, it's not that kind of video.
Potential car violence in episode 1? It's a Thai drama!
Oh, exposition in the action sequence: Nut is a screenwriter.
Ah yes, he was indeed struck by a vehicle. Let's pull out the Thai statistics again.
I have so many questions about the bear's ability to feel dizzy.
Why does The Little Prince pop up so often??
The furniture is talking again, and they experience lust.
I like meeting all of these characters under stressful conditions like this. It reveals a lot about their characters. We know the best friend is protective of Nut, and feels like some kind of manager. This girl maybe has an unrequited crush. Mom is being helpful but weird.
We got payoff from the furniture lust already. Tofu taking off Nut's clothes when he's drunk doesn't read sexual; neither does their waking up together. It's okay for Nut to recognize his good taste in Tofu, and is a nice soft launch about him being gay, and apparently expecting someone named Neung to be there.
I see we have some kind of dad trauma, and Nut and his mom don't get along much.
Damn, the slippers took mom out to help keep Tofu around. Real ones.
Baby's first existential crisis: will I be abandoned by those I love?
I'm very excited about the curious neighbors.
Okay, I like Nut's actors. He's got good control of his expressions.
She has her husband to help her? Um, ma'am?
Hey, it's kinda sad that Nut's tears seem to be what awakens each item. There's a lot of characters in this room.
Well, taking care of the house is going well...
Tofu and Khunchai got real beef. I love it.
I was wondering when he'd notice his he'd was missing
Suddenly: Tee Thanapon.
Does Tofu not know his own backstory?
I'm interested in the age gap potential of the side pair.
I know Tofu better tell Nut who he is in this episode with how long it is.
Oh shit is Tofu connected to someone else who's in some sort of coma? Is it Neung, who possibly gifted Nut Tofu in the first place?
Wait, who is Tarn, and is he the one who was getting defibrillated?
Interesting. So Tofu resembles a senior named Neung.
Wow, excellent work by Job in this flashback. He doesn't look as irritable and stressed, and he has a great infatuated face.
I believe the toy council is going to solve this mystery.
I understand Nut. The feeling of a man who cares about you laying next to you is comforting. He's totally right to kick Tofu out, though.
Okay, there was a lot that happened in this episode, but I actually think this was a really good opening episode of a drama. I have a strong sense of the entire cast so far, and we have some interesting mysteries to unpack. We have the question of Tofu's transformation, his connection to the man in the hospital, the mom claiming the dad is around, why Tofu looks like Neung, who is Tarn, and why do only some items in the house gain sentience? I'm intrigued.

How many friends do you have on Facebook? 682.
What was on the last sandwich you ate? It just had some scrambled egg and mayonnaise on it. We have some leftover luncheon meat and egg (again) meant for me though because I skipped dinner earlier, so I might sandwichify those two later as a midnight snack.
Have you ever gotten back together with an ex? I have. Ended catastrophically the second time around, but I’ve been doing okay for a while now.
What is your favourite Thai dish? You can’t go wrong with pad thai. I was already in Bangkok a month ago, but when I tell you it was still the only thing I had besides the street food, hahaha.
How many contacts do you have in your phone? I have no idea and I can’t be bothered to check, sorry.
When was the last time you made out with somebody? No idea. Three years ago, four years ago? Something like that.
What month of the year was your mother born? September.
Do you have any friends that seem to know all the hot gossip? Well, not all. Angela and I will update each other on whatever we’ll find, but it’s not like we treat gossip as life. We’ve also softened a lot in the last few years, like our gossipy conversations will usually go, “Apparently X does Y now... happy for them / hope they pull through!”
What TV show(s) have you been watching currently? I don’t watch TV shows. If anything I just do re-runs of Run BTS - at least one episode a day - even though it doesn’t technically count. If we’re strictly doing TV shows, I will watch an episode of Friends every now and then for the giggles and happy vibes.
How many apps do you have on your phone? Somewhere around 30-40. It’s a lot...it’s mostly so that I have options, and also because I have a handful of interests. I have 6 apps related to BTS alone, like Weverse and Stationhead haha. Then I have all the local online shopping app options, all the local ride-hailing app options, and all the parcel delivery app options too.
What pet names do you use with your significant other? I don’t have a significant other.
Do you have to wear a name badge where you work? Nope.
What brand is your toaster, if you have one? We don’t have a toaster. We have a microwave, but I don’t remember the brand name right now.
Can you hear anything right now? An interview with Yoongi and Jin.
Is there anybody else in the room you’re currently in? Nope, it’s just me 99% of the time here.
What’s the name of the store you usually get your groceries? Continued from last night. S&R.
Does your house have a porch/balcony? In the most technical sense, we do; but the balcony has actually been mostly transformed into my brother’s room. My parents did keep a small portion intact so my brother can have some kind of mini-balcony in his space.
What’s your favourite type of bread? I’m not really a big fan of bread. I’ll eat it, but I don’t like it enough to know the different kinds or have a favorite type.
Do you share a middle name with any of your siblings? Like our second name? Nope.
Have there ever been any bushfires/wildfires in your area? Never happened here.
Have you ever taken a ride in an ambulance? I have not.
When was the last time you took a nap during the day? Saturday. I was already awake for a while, but I wanted to sleep again so I napped from 11 to 1.
What did you have to eat for dinner last night? I skipped dinner because I had a really heavy lunch.
What was the last thing you had to drink? Water.
Who was the last message you received from and what did they say? It was just Angela sharing a TikTok link.
What’s your favourite kind of accent? I don’t have any.
Have you ever missed a flight? That has never happened. I’ve been delayed many times, but I’ve never missed.
Have you ever seen a lunar eclipse? Idk eclipses hate this part of the world so I’ve only seen like 1 or 2 and never knew what kind they were. All I remember is that it was very exciting to see the moon turn red.
Do you know your significant other’s passwords? I don’t have one.
What’s your favourite type of salad? Spicy tuna salad.
Is your house usually too warm or too cold in the winter? We don’t have winter.
Have you ever been in love with someone much older or younger than you? No for both.
Would you rather have someone ask to kiss you, or just kiss you? It’s better to ask. Unless I was actually dating you, then feel free to do it any time.
What, if anything, do you substitute for fries? I dunno...I’m never in a situation where I have to find a substitute for fries.
Have you ever been in a building that was on fire? This has never happened to me.
Would you change your partner’s hair color if you could? I don’t have one...
Have you ever written a poem for someone? No. I would if I could, but poems were never my strong suit.
Have you been best friends with someone of a different race? Yes, I was very close with Carley, who’s from Pennsylvania. She struck me as a little alone, a little troubled...but I was very happy to be her friend and we used to video chat every single day when I’d come home from school while she would get ready for it. I don’t know what happened, maybe her life circumstances started to get the best of her, but she started going in and out of the radar for long periods of time.
Like she’d come back and I’d be very excited to have her around again, only for her to stop talking to me for the next six months. Then she’d resurface and talk like nothing happened. It was very disorienting and somewhere down the line it started to feel more of an inconvenience, so I eventually just stopped replying whenever she’d have a ‘comeback.’
Who’s the last person who cussed you out in anger? I dunno anyone who would do this other than my mom.
Have you friended your parents on FB? Yes.
What’s the last tourist area you visited? Kuala Lumpur.
Have you ever been in a submarine? No, and especially after that Titan mess happened you will never find me in one.
Is there anyone whose grave you visit? Not a grave, but like the cubbyholes(?) in a columbarium, hehe. I visit my grandpa’s every now and then, usually during his birthday and All Souls’ Day.
Did your mother change her maiden name when/if she got married? Yes, she did.
Do you use TikTok? Very rarely; mostly for work. I like using IG Reels if I want to watch that kind of content.
What decorations do you have in your bathroom? We have some fake plants on top of the toilets.
Do you like Seinfeld? I haven’t tried watching it but it’s something I’ve always wanted to see.
What year was your favourite band formed? 2004 and 2013.
What’s your least favourite pizza topping? Pepperoni, sausage, beef, pork, pineapples.
What percentage battery is your phone on right now? 93%.
Have you ever smoked a cigarette? Did you like it? I have. It was okay, but it never felt like I needed to keep doing it.
Are you closer to your mother or father? Dad.
Have you ever sent a postcard? Where from? I’ve never done it.
Do you know anyone who speaks Spanish as a first language? No.
Who was the last person you kissed? My ex.
Do you have a Bachelor’s degree? If so, what in? Yes, in journalism.
Do loud noises bother you? It depends on the context. Construction noises while I’m working certainly won’t make me feel relaxed.
Do you rent or own the place you live? My parents own the house.
Have you ever made yourself as a Sim? Of course.
What brand is your phone? It’s an iPhone.
Have you ever had a friend named Mary? I mean her nickname is Mary, but her actual name is longer than that.
What does the name “Ada” make you think of? My high school classmate named Ada, and Ada Wong from Resident Evil.
Have you ever ridden in a horse-drawn carriage? I’ve been on a calesa once.
Did you ever sneak out of your house when you were younger? No, my mom has a way of finding things out anyway.
What is your best friend’s name? Angela, Andi.
Is anyone in your family an author or poet? We have an author.
Have you ever dated a guy with a girl’s name? I’ve never dated a guy.
Would you rather be named Fanny or Faye? Not a fan of both, but...eh, I guess I’ll go with Faye.
Do you have a godmother? Yes. Kind of a mandatory if you’re getting baptized in the Catholic Church.
Are you someone’s godmother? Yes.
When was the last time you wrote a poem? High school, I think.
Do you believe that it’s possible for someone to be resurrected from the dead? Save for experiences where the heart has been inactive for only a short period of time and it was able to be jolted back into activity, no. <--- this. < There we go.
What color hair does your current crush (or boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, whatever) have? I don’t have a crush.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you in a theater? Falling asleep way after the credits stopped rolling. Mind you this was the last screening for the day, so the mall literally couldn’t close down fully because of me haha. It was embarrassing but in hindsight I couldn’t understand why no one could just wake me up and told me to get the fuck out of there.
Have you ever had someone copy you or steal your ideas for something? Not that I can remember. If this ever happened I can tell you I’d definitely be petty about it and find a way for the credit to somehow come back my way.
Have you ever dated someone behind your parents’ back? Yes.

What was on the last sandwich you ate? It was just peanut butter.
Have you ever gotten back together with an ex? Yeah, a few times in the past.

Do you share a middle name with any of your siblings? I don’t have any siblings, but my middle name is the same as my cousins’ first name.

What’s your favourite type of salad? I’m really not a fan of salad with leaves lol, the texture makes me gag - but Caprese salads are good.
Is your house usually too warm or too cold in the winter? Neither really - it’s fine. We don’t really use the heating much just because it’s expensive, though.
Have you ever been in love with someone much older or younger than you? Define “much”.

Did your mother change her maiden name when/if she got married? No, it was changed when she got adopted and then again when she married my dad.

Ok.
Set out: on piece of bread of your choice, good handful of spinach, goat cheese, butter, cilantro (5 sprigs), two eggs, and yellow Thai curry sauce.
10" pan. Oil of your choice. Salt pepper red pepper flakes in the pan. Allow to warm - low-medium heat (I use 4 but your mileage may vary). Once heated, drop the eggs. Turmeric, garlic and onion powder. On the eggs. Rinse the cilantro while they cook to your liking. Set cilantro aside, flip the eggs, drop the bread in the toaster and the spinach in the pan. If you're using cast iron, cut the heat, and if you want your eggs over medium then also fully remove pan from heat.
Butter on the toast, then goat cheese, then spinach, then egg, then curry sauce, then cilantro.
Eat beautifully.

survey #122
How many friends do you have on Facebook? I just checked, 112.
What was on the last sandwich you ate? I actually had one yesterday, it was black pepper turkey with American cheese and mustard.
Have you ever gotten back together with an ex? Yes; Girt and I dated for like... four months in '17, but I decided to break up because I just didn't like him in the romantic way that I couldn't for the life of me decide if I did. Turns out getting back together a few years later was a fanfuckingtastic decision and proved to me that feelings can change and develop.
What is your favourite Thai dish? I'm quite sure I've never had Thai food before.
How many contacts do you have in your phone? Just counted, there's 16. Most I basically never text or call, though.
When was the last time you made out with somebody? I swear I'm like no older than 12, these questions still make me uncomfortable lmfao yesterday
What month of the year was your mother born? August.
Do you have any friends that seem to know all the hot gossip? lol my friends are adults
What TV show(s) have you been watching currently? Girt and I are almost done with the first season of Dark, which I am HOOKED on, like I want answers and to watch the next episode and the next episode more than I have for ANY show in a very, very, very long time. We stayed up late one night because *I* didn't want to stop watching, and I could not even guess the last show I was like that with. It's also natively a German show so I've had fun reading text that shows up and have even learned grammar stuff I never knew.
How many apps do you have on your phone? Excluding those that I can't remove from my phone/come with it, I have 14. My phone has *INSANELY* low memory, like only one of these apps is even remotely big, and I have to go through hell to keep almost anything updated because there's just not enough space on it. I fucking loathe my phone and desperately want a new one.
What pet names do you use with your significant other? Kinda like, all the basic ones. I know I use "hunny" the most, probably followed by "sweetie."
Do you have to wear a name badge where you work? Still don't have a job... but still looking every single day.
What brand is your toaster, if you have one? We have a toaster oven, but idk what the brand is. I basically never use it.
Can you hear anything right now? Yeah, I'm watching an episode of John Wolfe's Resident Evil 4 Remake LP. I hate that I can't play it myself right now, but at least it's something and is also a game that isn't like, a 100% new experience.
Is there anybody else in the room you’re currently in? No.
What’s the name of the store you usually get your groceries? Walmart. It's the cheapest and also not even two minutes from our house.
Does your house have a porch/balcony? We have an extremely small covered area that I guess does qualify as a "porch" out front, but we have a bigger/more proper one out back. It's actually a meshed-in area that's perfect to just sit and chill at... even though we never do. I've always wanted to sit out there one night with loved ones and like, roast marshmallows or something. I'd also love to hold Venus out there on a nice day, again if I had someone to sit and chat with. That's as close to outside as I'm willing to go with Venus because I have an insanely massive fear of a bird of prey just scooping her up, which CAN happen, but it's so super unlikely around here, but I don't care, I still freak out over the idea.
What’s your favourite type of bread? Pumpernickel.
Do you share a middle name with any of your siblings? Yes, with Nicole.
Have there ever been any bushfires/wildfires in your area? Yeah; funnily enough there was actually an active brushfire yesterday by the beach, something that isn't very uncommon in the hotter months 'round here. On multiple occasions we've even gotten the smoke from distant fires cake the air all the way over here, but I don't think that's happened in many years.
Have you ever taken a ride in an ambulance? No.
When was the last time you took a nap during the day? Well, I guess today, although I hadn't been awake long at all. I'd ended up on the bathroom floor by the toilet putting my entire fucking soul into NOT puking for a while, and we had to cancel my PT and psychiatrist appointments because of how sick I felt. I ended up going back to sleep and apparently sleeping like a boulder because Mom said I was snoring. I don't totally know what was wrong, but I'm blaming my period just being wack as fuck because this has been THE most symptomatic I have EVER been during a period, I think, which kinda scares me because nothing in my life has changed, so this period has just been very, very randomly intense.
What did you have to eat for dinner last night? Bless Girt's heart, he got me Subway bc he overheard Mom say she couldn't do it herself lol. He was a total supportive champ while he was here yesterday and the night before, he knew I was on my period and that this month's was just being fucking VICIOUS and was just being super helpful about it.
What was the last thing you had to drink? I have my flavored carbonated water right now.
Who was the last message you received from and what did they say? Girt tried sending me a picture of Charlie (his dog) being cute and Discord was being reluctant to send it for some reason so he had to complain about it lol
What’s your favourite kind of accent? British.
Have you ever missed a flight? Yes, actually. It was the day I was secretly flying to Illinois to surprise Sara on her birthday, and I was DEVASTATED because I thought the plan was ruined by me missing it, but with her parents' help it worked out and she had zero idea it was happening, even though I obviously got there later than we'd originally planned.
Have you ever seen a lunar eclipse? Yes, a few times.
Do you know your significant other’s passwords? No, I don't feel the need to know that... and there IS no need for me to know any of his passwords as a dating couple that doesn't like, have accounts where we share finances or anything.
What’s your favourite type of salad? Just regular green lettuce with Olive Garden dressing or ranch. Cucumbers are fine, too. And bacon bits if we're using ranch.
Is your house usually too warm or too cold in the winter? Too cold. Mom really hates turning on the heat because of money.
Have you ever been in love with someone much older or younger than you? No.
Would you rather have someone ask to kiss you, or just kiss you? This depends. With my partner now, it'd be extremely weird for him to ask to kiss me, and it would be with any stable romantic partner imo. When Girt and I first dated, he did ask first before he kissed me the first time, which is exactly what I wanted just because of my relationship trauma; I wanted to know it was coming and was okay with it happening. If, god forbid, Girt and I don't last and I end up in a different relationship in the future, I honestly don't know if I'd prefer to be asked or just kissed the first time.
What, if anything, do you substitute for fries? lol if fries are an option, I can basically oath to you that I'm getting fries, haha.
Have you ever been in a building that was on fire? Hell no.
Would you change your partner’s hair color if you could? I know he doesn't like the fact that he's graying early, so I'd fix that for him if I could just snap my fingers and have that happen, but I would never want to pick what he does with HIS hair, so to answer the basic question, no.
Have you ever written a poem for someone? More than once.
Have you been best friends with someone of a different race? Yup, a best friend from my childhood, Quiata, is African American. He wasn't what I'd call a BEST friend, but I was also very close with my childhood neighbor D'Andre, also African American. We hung out and played a whole lot. Oh yeah, and then there was Hannia in high school, but tbh I'm not entirely sure what her exact race was. I feel like the I believe one time I saw her dad, he looked Hispanic, and I know her mother was Asian of some sort.
Who’s the last person who cussed you out in anger? Idk. Maybe Sara, I try to not remember the details of that message.
Have you friended your parents on FB? My mom, yeah. Dad doesn't have one. I also have my stepmother on there, but solely to prevent drama because she posts THE dumbest, most fucking bigoted shit imaginable, like I literally don't even see her posts anymore because I turned that shit off.
What’s the last tourist area you visited? Chicago, I think.
Have you ever been in a submarine? No.
Is there anyone whose grave you visit? No. There are times where I'd like to visit Jason's mom's, just once, but I don't think it would be good for me, and I also have this fear that I'd by some insanely poor odds run into Jason there. I also don't know WHERE she's buried.
Did your mother change her maiden name when/if she got married? Yes, pretty sure both times she got married.
Do you use TikTok? No.
What decorations do you have in your bathroom? In the hall bathroom, there's three little fake plants on the sink.
Do you like Seinfeld? I don't think I have much of an opinion. Funnily enough though Mom had it on the other day, and some scene made me laugh.
What year was your favourite band formed? Ozzy went solo in 1980. Rammstein formed in 1994.
What’s your least favourite pizza topping? Probably mushrooms. I straight-up will not eat it.
What percentage battery is your phone on right now? 82.
Have you ever smoked a cigarette? Did you like it? No, and I absolutely never plan to, I just do not see the appeal. Definitely not worth cancer, either.
Are you closer to your mother or father? Mom.
Have you ever sent a postcard? Where from? No.
Do you know anyone who speaks Spanish as a first language? I don't think I know anyone anymore, but maybe.
Who was the last person you kissed? Girt.
Do you have a Bachelor’s degree? If so, what in? No.
Do loud noises bother you? Yes.
Do you rent or own the place you live? Rent. And our landlord/family "friend" will never, ever let us forget her great kindness.
Have you ever made yourself as a Sim? No, I've actually never played the Sims, save for the animal ones. It's not the kind of game that I'd have fun with.
What brand is your phone? It's literally a Tracphone.
Have you ever had a friend named Mary? No.
What does the name “Ada” make you think of? Haha actually the Resident Evil franchise character, funny time to mention the name.
Have you ever ridden in a horse-drawn carriage? No.
Did you ever sneak out of your house when you were younger? No.
What is your best friend’s name? Donald Jr., but I've always known him as Girt.
Is anyone in your family an author or poet? My like, 4th or 5th cousin wrote Not Without My Daughter. No one in my very close family, though.
Have you ever dated a guy with a girl’s name? No, but I'm not against it. I don't believe in gendering names, anyway, honestly.
Would you rather be named Fanny or Faye? Faye, by an insane longshot. I love the name Faye, meanwhile Fanny sounds awful to me.
Do you have a godmother? I don't believe so.
Are you someone’s godmother? No.
When was the last time you wrote a poem? Last time I was in the hospital. ... I think? I don't believe I've written something since then.
Do you believe that it’s possible for someone to be resurrected from the dead? Save for experiences where the heart has been inactive for only a short period of time and it was able to be jolted back into activity, no.
What color hair does your current crush (or boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, whatever) have? Black, but as I mentioned earlier it also has gray in it.
What’s the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you in a theater? [TW: PARENTAL ABUSE] Be triggered by a sudden scene of a father beating his daughter with a belt and having a complete and total, very obvious panic attack that ultimately led to me having to leave the theater.
Have you ever had someone copy you or steal your ideas for something? Yup. Sara used to literally trace my art and I've caught her red-handed stealing both characters and completely original locations from me. Worth mentioning she did this kind of stuff to others, too, all the while having insane paranoia that people have and would steal from her <3333 man was she fun.
Have you ever dated someone behind your parents’ back? Nope.

Things I will take home. #Thailand Edition 🇹🇭
Thailand is actually the Philippines if you’re going to convert everyone to Christianity. Instead of Chapels and Cathedrals, You will see Temples and Palaces. People are hospitable, kind and beautiful. It didn’t take long before I felt like I’m still at home despite the foreign land.
People even talk to me in Thai as if I’m a native there. I always say “C̄hạn mị̀ k̄hêācı”(I don’t understand) and “C̄hạn pĕn khn filippins̄̒” (I’m Filipino). Yet of course that is not a hindrance for me to learn the language even for a short stay. I manage to make conversations, mostly with Massage Therapists and 7/11 cashiers. My wife isn’t much of a talker so I took on the advantage to look like a wandering idiot in learning the language. I use on-the-spot google translate if I struggle to express myself and whatever means to improve my communication with them. In the conversation I had, there are some things that I observed and learned that surely I will take home.
People in Thailand are Very Tolerant
There were times when I share the same frustrations when police and tourist security call out foreigners for innocently not following the rules in the temple. Though these things are unintentional, telling people what not to do over and over again can be very annoying - At least from my perspective. There was one time my wife and I were eating out. The street store ran out of rice so I just agree to eat the food without it. Little did I know that the things I order needed rice. (Asian countries. DUH) A young man's vendor told me about something I didn’t understand while pointing at the 7/11 store.
Vendor: “lays... inaudible”
Me: *Nods and smile as if I understand what he said*
Vendor: “lays... 7/11... inaudible”
Me: “Ha? what?” (started to get confused about what’s going on)
Vendor: *starting to get frustrated, tried to find the menu*
When the vendor started to look for the menu it was then I realized he was talking about rice available in the 7/11.
Me: “OHHHH.. R-I-C-E”
Vendor: “Yes, Rays!” *happily expressed with relief*
I was about to go into another trouble because I was about to ask the 7/11 cashier where I can find the rice. But the vendor, knowing I don’t communicate well despite my English, join me in the store and pointed out where the rice was located.
I was very impressed and grateful for the tolerance of that young vendor in enduring my language barrier so that I can enjoy eating my Thai food properly.
Other than the young man, I’ve experienced many times when Thais were very patient in dealing with me just so they can understand me. I’m grateful to the Pad Thai cook for waiting for me to respond in Thai via Google translate on what I want just to give me salt for free. I’m also grateful for the 7/11 cashier who was also trying to communicate with me by pointing to the toaster if I want my wife's Ham and Cheese sandwich cooked. And many other events.
The Kingdom of Freedom
For an authoritarian government, the Thai people are one of the most liberating people I’ve ever met. They are open to beliefs and topics that most countries are against “i.e. gender identity, marijuana, religious freedom, etc..” At some point, they manage to come to peace with people by learning how to deal with them. Despite having a Monarchy as the central power of government. Thais are free to express their gender identity, religion, and other perspectives. Of course, there are still certain topics that are controversial, especially in politics and other issues yet the people are not as polarized as in other countries.
Thailand is one of the countries that weren’t colonized. This may explain why Thai people are very proud of their country and their Monarch. And with still lasting sovereignty, they have the power to have freedom on their choices on principle and policy.
To Be Fluent, Lose The Accent.
In the 5 days of my travel to Thailand, there are many things that I find different yet fascinating. One of which is language. Like literally the language, not only do they have different characters, but they also have different ways of saying it in English. “Eat in” instead of “Dine In”. “Looking for you” instead of “Where are you?”. And yet, perhaps the most extraordinary thing for me was the accent. Being Filipino, I can speak English in an american accent and that’s the most fluent accent you can hear. But going to Thailand, it’s different. It’s not understandable and I tried.
In order for them to understand me, I must lose the accent. “We is tren stasion” Where is the Train Station) “sevew-eleven” (7/11) “no have” (I don’t have). “have” (There is, I have, Available). In a land where people speak, act and live differently, it is obvious that they have their own way of expressing things differently. And setting a standard for them so that you can be universally understood will just likely make them feel isolated and foreign.
I’m excited to go back to Thailand and I will definitely miss the memories of the first foreign country I’ve set foot on. I’m grateful for the learnings and experiences that I gained there. Truly, these are the things I will take home.

Top three most surreal things to happen on my insta fan account:
1: when I posted a picture off Halloween muffins I made myself that I was CONVINCED looked like shit from a butt, only for like four separate people to reply saying they looked amazing and that they wanted to eat one right fucking now, aka the day I realised I had no aesthetic eye
2: when a boy replied to a story that was like 'what do you mean I have to actually try to date, I want a man to just walk up to me because I'm pretty and ask to buy me coffee' saying "couldn't be me, a decent guy would spend time trying to get to know the girl, not just go up to her like that" when I never asked, only for him to spend the next SEVERAL MONTHS replying to every selfie I posted (with my face BLOCKED OUT besties) with heart eyes emojis, blatant flirting, and eventually calling me mommy while knowing NOTHING ABOUT ME AS A PERSON 😭😭😭😭😭
3: when I commented on a atla fan acc post that was one of those 'introduce yourself to make friends with other fans in the comments!' things, met someone and became moots, bonded pretty quickly since we had a lot in common (enby, same age, jet stans, bi, self proclaimed dumb but in a cute way) and had like three conversations where we were both sweet and I was, i THINK, totally normal, only for me to find I was blocked less than a week later. Anyways
