one of the things i love about haikyuu is you can just feel, through every single manga panel, illustration, and artwork the love furudate has for his characters, his OCs so to speak. the goofiest panels automatically make me smile cause of how expressive they are and how they represent energy of teens being teens. even after the manga being officially over, the story of haikyuu still hasn’t ended. they’re still growing alongside us year by year, with all the extra content being given out such as side/extra stories, plus the movies (though that’s an entirely different can of worms LMAO).

Furudate is a mf-ing genius at character design. I mean, putting the twins aside and literally everyone else, I'd like to turn everyone's attention to Kenma Kozume.
Okay, so as we all know, he's got some social anxiety. He's not the best with interaction and he's the definition of 'introvert'. And this manifests into physical characteristics in the form of his hair. Just like how Atsumu's got brassy bright yellow compared to a somewhat muted silver Osamu, hair plays an important part in defining who a person is. In this case, Kenma's hair serves as protection against the world. He literally states that he likes it long because it overwhelms him to have a greater viewpoint of everything (paraphrasing here, but yk what I mean)
However, after high school and into the timeskip, we see that Kenma still has his iconic hair.
But it's tied back. He's willingly opening up his view of everything, something he was absolutely not okay with in high school. He's *grown*.
Does that mean all his problems are gone? Does that mean he's completely a new person? No, we can clearly see that he hasn't gotten a buzzcut or chopped it super short. Kenma didn't become someone new. He just grew and learned and developed as he matured, just like his hair.
He's no longer afraid like he used to be, willing to face the world head-on to become the sugar daddy he was meant to be. I think that's pretty poetic.

haikyuu is so weird bc what do you mean I literally grew up along with these volleyball dorks? what do you mean they taught me everything I needed to get through the hard times in life and keep moving forward? what do you mean it helped me learn to let other people in and rely on them? what do you mean it taught me that everything will be alright as long as you keep going and find a way to keep picking yourself back up off the ground? what do you mean these characters feel like personal close friends and the fact that other people in the world know it and love it just as much as me will never fully compute in my head?

"Yesterday you were defeated, but what will you become tomorrow?"
i finished haikyuu for the first time and just. wow. it was a journey. im gonna go cry now bye guys
Tumblr media
genuinely tho watching all these characters develop change and grow was a fucking journey and i feel so bitter sweet about it ending because they have such a special place in my heart 😭😭😭 like i cant even joke about this im CRYING SOBBING DOWN ON MY KNEES THEY ARE SO PRECIOUS TO ME
ive been a really big hinata fan since day one, and seeing him from a boy whos just good at jumping and have athletic skills, being known as just a shrimp, a boy whos from the concretes, a person who wouldnt be ANYTHING if it wasnt for his setter, to a person whos capable, who has unlocked that potential he has for himself, who climbed the ladder to reach the top and its just EHWREGHUIrzhuhUHWWUYRU to see him mature and grow up to be a strong player makes me so happy because it really shows how hard work and dedication is worth it at the end, that all the pain and suffering you go through gives the best results
and finishing it for the FIRST TIME??? just that ENDING??? it was so good i cant I CANT DO THIS ANYMORE THEY ALL GREW UP SO MUCH UFHGREKJWHJEHJSAWHFKRG THEY GREW UP SO FUCKING MUCH
Tumblr media
im a tiny bit disappointed that this series ended but im glad it ended the way it did. its perfect, at least for me <3
thank you furudate for making such a great story with such interesting characters. thank you haikyuu for changing my life i know it sounds a bit parasocial but hinatas journey has a special place in my heart

Oikawa Tooru is not a genius.
Well firstly the word 'genius' is an understatement to this character that Furudate sensei has penned down.
Down bad for this dude as everyone should be lol.
People call it a ripple effect when you are good at something you love.
Oikawa was not born a genius. No. He tuned in. He put in the work. He turned up.
He made me believe that I too can put in the hard long miles for something that I really love. And at the end of the day. You take away the feeling of having done something that you hold a longing passion for. That's the most important part.
Of course I cannot be as cool as Oikawa san (I wish I was) but hey even 1 % of whatever he is , is enough
A monster in the truest sense. The Great King. Oikawa Tooru ~

constantly thinking about how haikyuu is comprised of so, so many dreams meshed into one timeline following along a sport. a sport that may mean more to some than to others, but a sport that ultimately brought them all together and irrevocably changed each and every one of their lives. from growing up with it to just starting to like it to dedicating your whole life to it to ‘giving it up’ for a bigger passion…. in the midst of this all what comes out of this is coming of age stories that best the coming of age genre itself, a story or a journey of a lifetime that produces quotes such as “when you dedicate yourself to pushing higher, you’re going to have to expect the hard times to outweigh the fun. it becomes so that if you’re not having a hard time, you feel like you’re not making progress.” “this moment, right now, is still volleyball.” “today, you are the defeated. what will you be tomorrow?” “being good…means being free.” “all i want is to practice and train, paying proper care and attention to everything… today, tomorrow, all the way up to my last game. and if i’m lucky — to go out thinking i could be done at anytime, and still be satisfied.” and there’s so many more but i would burst

"this too is volleyball" has literally changed my life. it is so simple and yet can so radically change your perspective
taking care of your body too is volleyball failure too is volleyball
or
every little parts of your life are intertwined with each other failure is never definitive if you decide to try again and work to do better there is no real beginning or end: everything is part of your journey, it is what you make of it
