Reread John Wyndham's The Day of the Triffids last year. I'd sit in my garden and read, overlooked by potentially the largest Scottish thistle I've ever seen. It'd nod in the breeze, towering over me, as I read about the Triffids lurching from their planted beds to wander the English countryside. Spooky stuff. Triffids are a design challenge I revisit a lot - this was a stab at them from about a year ago.

they really took their sweet liberties with the 1962 adaptation of day of the triffids huh. fuckin' space aliens??? where are my themes of the hubris of man's technological overreach??? the discussion of society's reliance on senses taken for granted by most??? salt water????? they fucking butchered this book smh

The Day of the Triffids (1963)

A disaster/monster movie where people all over the world are blinded and stalked by giant carnivorous plants. People tend to focus on the killer plants, but the worldwide blindness is the really interesting part, showing how lost people are without their sight, and how quickly society breaks down when people panic. That being said, the plants are also cool. I really enjoy it when the monsters are non-vertebrates, and the triffids and very far away from a guy in a rubber suit. My only real complaint is that the plot has a tendency to jump forward without much warning or explanation.
