fun musical bit about this scene!:

the piece that the car is playing (the "classical music that stays classical music") is a tone poem, saint-saëns' danse macabre. it's a super famous piece that you've probably heard before and is associated with all things spooky. but it's not just spooky bc it sounds spooky: it's spooky bc it tells a story! a tone poem is a piece of music evokes a poem, short story, landscape, etc. in short, it's a piece of music that's describing or outlining something.

danse macabre tells the story of death, who every year on the stroke of midnight on halloween plays his fiddle to raise the dead. the dead dance for him until the following dawn, where they return to their graves until the next year. (musically it does a lot of cool things to reflect this: there's 12 notes at the beginning representing the 12 strokes of midnight, and the frequent use of a specific musical interval called the tritone. in the medieval period the tritone was also called diabolus in musica, literally meaning "the devil in music" bc of how dissonant it sounded to listeners at the time. it also quotes the dies irae chant as well!)

so the fact that it's what the car chose to play is SUPER cute. bc it's classical (technically it's from the romantic period, but w/e), like aziraphale wants, but it's also reminiscent of crowley. bc i bet the car knows just how much aziraphale loves crowley, too. it's a really subtle nudge that the car knows both of them and it's like the car is finding a musical middle for them both, almost.

it's also a subtly brilliant choice bc in the flashback prior, aziraphale said that crowley asked to meet aziraphale in the graveyard at midnight. just like death met the dead on halloween.

one of my favorite things about listening to music is at the end of the song when you hear the musician laugh or talk to other people it's like they switch from some ethereal being back into a person

OK but Armand being able to walk around during daylight is going to be Daniel's undoing.

Daniel is going to wake up in his coffin in some roadside motel along the tour, and find his phone has been plugged in across the room (so he can't lay in coffin and scroll endlessly). The apps on said phone are now arranged by frequency of use. The files on his computer are now sorted into an organized set of folders with plain descriptive naming. Daniel's ringtone has been changed from The Beatles' "Paperback Writer" to Mozart's Requiem. The kicker, the thing that really drives Daniel up the wall, is when he realizes Armand has absconded with some of his band T-shirts ("I BOUGHT THAT SHIRT AT THE LAST WALTZ AT THE FILLMORE, YOU MISERABLE FUCK")

the six of them all sat outside around the firepit, the older of the two brothers and their parents all talked to each other as the youngest two sat together and talked softly.

"god they are so smitten with each other." jack groaned quietly, throwing his head back in annoyance.

quinn looked down at the drink in his hand before taking a sip and responding, "oh come on, you gotta admit they're cute."

his mom nodded from the other side of jack, "your brother has a point."

quinn, jack, ellen, and jim all sat watching luke and y/n as they talked with their hands, both of them with mock annoyed looks on their faces.

y/n was wearing one of luke's hoodies, the wind making it a little chillier than she had planned it to be. her chair was turned so it was facing the side of luke's, her legs crossed beneath her as they continued whatever conversation they were having, luke just watching her with his one hand underneath his chin.

"i can't tell if luke is actually annoyed or if he's actually enjoying whatever she's talking about."

"please, he always looks like that when she talks." jack scoffed, "he looks at her like she hung the stars if she even breathes."

jim stayed silent, both enjoying his older son and middle son arguing and how happy his youngest looked. ellen made a few comments here and there but mostly kept to herself with a content smile on her face.

after a few moments of bickering, jack finally relented, "okay, fine, they are cute. but come on, you also have to admit that they are a little cheesy."

the other three nodded in agreement, they couldn't really disagree with him. they just watched the two continue to talk until jack spoke again, "what do you think they're talking about anyway?"

"i wasn't going to convince you that a hot dog was a sandwich. it's not."

the two looked at each other, "how did we even get on this topic?"

"i don't know, something about like top ten most debated topics."

"and cereal being a soup was one of them?"

"no, i think we actually started talking about how tacos and burritos weren't sandwiches first and then we brought the cereal thing up."

luke just nodded, sparing a glance over at the rest of his family, "have they been watching us the whole time?"

she looked to where luke was looking and blushed, looking down, "i don't know."

"do you think they know we're talking about food classifications right now?"

y/n looked up again and at his family, "definitely not."
