#The Legacy of Vulkan
moodymisty ยท 1 year
Note
Hello, I hope you are doing well. And summer ends on a joyful noteโœจ
Roboute Guilliman/reader-eternal(can she be related to Malcador?๐Ÿ‘€) Maybe NSFW?๐ŸคญI'm sure most primarchs have a breeding and pregnancy kink๐Ÿค” But Roboute is a special case: he had a good family and loving parents. He himself wants to be the same as Conor. He has a legacy to pass on. And if these inclinations of his had previously subsided, then now that he has a reader who can endure, nothing stops him. How would his Astartes react to the possibility of their primarch having a child of his own? How do they treat the reader?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Author's note: There's a lot here, so I thought it would be best to format my thoughts in my usual headcanons with a small drabble at the end way to make sure I could speak all my thoughts. I hope that's acceptable to you ;3 This one ended up not having any overt sauce because I got so distracted by sweet Guilliman, but if you desire the full NSFW, you're always welcome to send in another request because I'm a dolt xD
Relationships: Roboute Guilliman/Fem!Reader
Warnings: Some vague mentions to NSFW things but nothing overt, Tokophobia/Pregnancy mentions, Typical 40kness
Tumblr media
I'd agree that a good amount of the Primarch's have that sort of kink, but it manifests in very different ways depending on which Primarch it is.
Lorgar wanting to corrupt purity or fall victim to primal temptations, Vulkan's desire for family, Magnus wanting to share his teachings; Guilliman's is more of the traditional sense.
For as long as he can remember, he's tossed away the idea of ever having a family. Given his lot in life, his duty to humanity, that isn't a thing he can indulge in. He has no time for such selfishness.
He's resigned himself to fighting for others to have that gift, not himself.
When you arrive in his life, Guilliman suddenly remembers how hard it had been to push and keep those thoughts down, now that you serve to constantly remind him.
He has many fond memories of training or hunting with his adoptive father, and one day he would like to have the same with his own child, if the galaxy would let him be so selfish.
When you do tell him you're with child he's an absolute mess though. You're both treading into unknown waters, after all. No matter how strong you are he still worries about your health.
The Ultramarines definitely have their qualms about it though.
Keep in mind they were raised from kids to be stalwart killing machines, so the kind of thoughts and dreams their Primarch is having are... weird to them.
They have more interaction with baseline humans that say the Dark Angels however, so they aren't totally out of touch.
You did disturb one of Guilliman's men when you keeled over in pain and he attempted to make sure you didn't fall, and he felt your child kick his palm. His disturbed face is forever seared in your memory as one of the funniest things you've ever seen. You're pretty sure the marine's squad still beats him up about the whole thing.
Mostly so, his captains and commanders worry. They know that you serve as a weakness (speaking in a logistical sense) to Guilliman that can be taken advantage of.
Tumblr media
He's exactly where you expected him to be.
The green haze of the hologram map shines against his skin, having been growing palid over the past weeks. Guilliman often times works himself into an awful state, pushing himself to the mental limit before finally taking respite.
You can't stop him from doing it. So the least you can do is enjoy a few moments of time with him alone before he goes back to the bridge of the Macragge's Honor to hear any updates from his commanders.
When he notices you in the doorway, his face perks up considerably.
"You should be resting." He instantly comes at you with, and you can't help but sigh.
"Not even a hello?" You come closer, and it's his turn to sigh. You walked all the way here, it's the least you can get from him. He puts a hand on your shoulder and presses his lips to the top of your head.
"Hello. You should be resting." There's papers, scrolls and plastic flimsies spread across the edges of the hologram table, clearly a mess done by him.
"I just wanted a few minutes alone with you, is that so wrong?" He sees the small hint of a smirk on your face, as he pulls away to lean on his hands pressed against the holotable. He takes a glance towards your belly.
"How are they?" You're well past showing at this point, and it will only be a few months until you're finally face to face with your child.
"Finally asleep, it seems. They stopped kicking my stomach."
He lets the smallest smile on his face.
"Yearning to fight, even bef-"
The door suddenly opens, revealing an unfamilar to you Ultramarine captain. A hand rests on the pommel of his chainblade, helmet tucked into his elbow. He also has the worst timing in the known galaxy, interrupting your private moment before it even had a chance to truly begin.
"Lord Primarch, You have a vox. Legion Captain Hektor holds news of a new world." The captain looks in your direction and nods his head.
"Apologies, Legion Mother."
You'll never get used to that title. One of many you had thrust upon you when you'd entered into a relationship with Roboute, even if they technically were not official. You were not bound by law as of yet, but the Chapter had taken to calling you Legion Mother none the less. It becoming official was less so a possibility, and more so an inevitability. The Captain bows and takes his leave, and the both of you are alone once again.
"Will I be attending this diplomacy meeting as well?" You joke, looking up to the Primarch.
"If you can do so without straining yourself, then possibly." Guilliman won't deny that you have a knack for diplomacy, no matter how much you might say otherwise. He wishes for worlds to surrender peacefully; He also wishes for you to remain in good health.
"Now go rest. The both of you."
You feel an armored hand gently press against your aching belly. Carrying a Primarch's child hasn't be easy on your body in the slightest; Even more so than a normal human child. You'll happily indulge in the rest, with one exception.
"As long as you come and join me once you're finished. Please?"
Even if you can get him to take a few minutes of respite, you'll consider it a victory. Roboute sighs as he looks downward.
"I will try." You just barely hear him mumble underneath his breath, as his hand still on your stomach. It moves slightly as he kneels.
"Be easy on your mother. She wasn't meant to carry someone like you."
His sentence makes you think for a moment, before he pulls away and lets you leave.
Guilliman did technically join you; But it was only after you'd already fallen asleep. He stepped into the room and gently sat down onto the massive bed, still in his armor. He didn't want to wake you and simply watched, hand sitting close to your leg. His eyes fluttered closed for a moment and his lips parted as he took a few deep breaths, and then took one more look at you- both of you, before standing and leaving again.

Recorded to get ChatGPT to write some insults Perturabo would use against the other primarchs. Here is what we got:
1. To Guilliman: "Oh, Guilliman, the self-proclaimed master of administration and bureaucracy. Your obsession with order and regulation is nothing but a faรงade to hide your complete lack of true leadership. You may have the numbers, but I surpass you in innovation and engineering prowess. Your model of governance is nothing more than a pale imitation of my capacity to reshape reality itself."
2. To Vulkan: "Vulkan, the so-called perpetual, always clinging to life. Your resilience is commendable, but it is nothing compared to my unwavering endurance in the face of hardship. Your forgecraft is crude and unimaginative, while my siege engines reshape the battlefield and bring ruin upon your feeble defenses. Your flames may burn bright, but they will forever pale in comparison to my everlasting legacy of destruction."
3. To Magnus: "Ah, Magnus the all-knowing, the so-called master of sorcery. Your thirst for forbidden knowledge led to the damnation of our Legion, but you were too blind to see the consequences of your actions. Your arrogance and reliance on sorcery renders you weak, while I, with my unwavering determination and superior intellect, can conquer any obstacle without resorting to such feeble tricks."
4. To Leman Russ: "Russ, the savage wolf, always running with your pack. You revel in the savagery of battle, thinking it makes you superior, but your primitive nature and lack of strategic thinking turn victory into a fleeting illusion. Your simplistic tactics are easily overcome by my calculated and precise methods. You may howl with fury, but it is I who commands the true power."
5. To Jaghatai Khan: "Khan, the elusive wanderer, always seeking the thrill of the chase. Your obsession with speed blinds you to the depths of true warfare. Your hit-and-run tactics amount to nothing more than temporary annoyance, while my fortifications and war engines withstand any assault. Your lightning-fast strikes may impress some, but they will never match the indomitable might of my iron will."
6. To Sanguinius: "Sanguinius, the angel of light, forever bound by your noble aspirations. Your morality and sense of honor cloud your judgement, preventing you from embracing the true nature of war. Your ethereal wings may grant you momentary advantage, but against my merciless siege engines and calculating tactics, they are nothing more than fragile illusions that will shatter upon my iron walls."
7. To Ferrus Manus: "Manus, the master of iron, your obsession with technology blinds you to the true essence of warfare. Your reliance on cold machinery renders you soulless and predictable. My mastery of both machine and strategy ensures that my forces will always be one step ahead of your rigid, unimaginative approach. Your steely resolve may impress some, but it will crumble against the might of my Legion."
8. To Angron: "Angron, the rage-fueled berserker, forever consumed by your uncontrollable fury. Your lack of discipline and strategic thinking makes you nothing more than a liability on the battlefield. While you revel in the mindless slaughter, I orchestrate the destruction of entire fortresses. Your bloodthirst may sate your own desires, but it will forever pale in comparison to my calculated annihilation."
9. To Mortarion: "Mortarion, the lord of toxins, forever shrouded in your own noxious cloud. Your reliance on poison and disease reflects your own stagnant and pestilent nature. My mastery of siege warfare surpasses your feeble attempts to use nature's wrath as a weapon. Your decaying touch may cause momentary suffering, but I bring about complete and utter devastation wherever I tread."
10. To Horus: "Horus, the fallen Warmaster, corrupted by your own misguided ambition. Your betrayal has stained your honor and forever tarnished your legacy. Your once unparalleled mastery of tactics now pales in comparison to my own strategical brilliance. Now a mere puppet of Chaos, you are but a shadow of the true leader you once were. Even in your desperate state, you cannot escape the fact that you have been outmatched by Perturabo, the true master of war."

Opengl 4.5 benchmark software
Tumblr media
My guess is that OpenGL does things in a similar manner, and since AMD doesn't let users toggle the DCL functionality in the driver control panel like Nvidia does, you lose out on these supposed benefits. However in more recent games, AMD's DX11 performance has drastically improved. I guess many devs forewent this and did things differently. In AMD's GCN performance guide, they recommended that devs dedicate one core to being the main GPU rendering thread, and move all other work to other cores/threads instead. Basically DX11 is legacy at this point and most newer games are undoubtedly being developed with DX12 and Vulkan in mind. My take on it is that in spite of how flawed it can be, command lists still give a decent bonus and AMD just opted to not implement them in their DX11 driver in order to focus on Mantle/DX12/Vulkan instead. So the one core that's your submission queue thread on DX11, it has to stop what it's doing and spend time going through the DCL's on the other threads.ฤฎdit: It's worth mentioning that Hallock referred to DCL's as useless for DX11, implying that they only benefit short benchmarks to artificially inflate scores, but various tests were shown where Nvidia got a drastic increase in a before & after scenario when they added DCL support to their driver. This is because with DCL's, you have no idea when each command list will be submitted to the GPU, but you need to patch each of the command lists with GPU addresses before sending them to the GPU. DCL's have their pro's and con's, but Robert claimed that you get the most draw calls out of the API by just using a single core/thread like they do, hence the "extra overhead" you hear so much about. What Nvidia did was take the commands being sent from the API and split them up the moment they arrived in the driver, assigning them to multiple threads and then sending that to the GPU and the end user. AMD could've implemented "multithreaded optimizations" (what this actually refers to is DCL's, or driver command lists, a feature that exists in DX11 and I guess OpenGL too) if they wanted to, but they opted to focus on Mantle instead (and its forks, DX12 and Vulkan.) This is what that whole "AMD has more driver overhead than NV in DX11" hubbub came from.ฤญX11, like its predecessors, basically only has a single submission queue point, which means only one core is being used for feeding the GPU, essentially.
Major release: RightMark Audio Analyzer 6.Yeah Robert Hallock AMD talked about this on twitter during a recent AMA I believe.
It's free to use, but some features within the application are limited as the program is classed as "Freemium".
Tumblr media
RightMark Audio Analyzer 6.4.5 is available to all software users as a freeload for Windows. This download is licensed as freeware for the Windows (32-bit and 64-bit) operating system on a laptop or desktop PC from benchmark software without restrictions. RightMark Audio Analyzer 6.4.5 on 32-bit and 64-bit PCs
Tumblr media
In the end, RightMark Audio Analyzer provides a useful tool for analyzing, playing and recording input audio signals to determine the quality of the actual recording or the device that's playing it back. The layout of the program is rather simple, providing all of the details of its analysis in one place. RightMark Audio Analyzer provides details such as the dynamic range, noise level, frequency response, inter-modulation distortion and more. The application functions which a device is connected and playback has started it checks the quality of the playback and provides a report. RightMark Audio Analyzer is a audio utility which analyzes the audio output quality of different devices including those played on a PC, an MP3 player, a CD disc or other input devices.

Finder now has metadata preview accessed via View > Show Preview, and many other updates, including a Gallery View (replacing Cover Flow) that lets users browse through files visually. Mojave features changes to existing applications as well as new ones. The only supported Nvidia graphics cards are the Quadro K5000 and GeForce GTX 680 Mac Edition. Mojave removes integration with Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, and Flickr, which was added in OS X Mountain Lion. New data protections require applications to get permission from the user before using the Mac camera and microphone or accessing system data like user Mail history and Messages database. APFS will also store all metadata for a Fusion Drive's file system on the SSD. On Fusion Drives using APFS, files will be moved to the SSD based on the file's frequency of use and its SSD performance profile.
#MAC OS X MOJAVE DARK MODE PLUS#
When Mojave is installed, it will convert solid-state drives (SSDs), hard disk drives (HDDs), and Fusion Drives, from HFS Plus to APFS. In macOS Mojave 10.14, this alert appears once every 30 days when launching the app, as macOS 10.15 will not support 32-bit applications. ฤฌontinuing the process started in macOS High Sierra (10.13), which issued warnings about compatibility with 32-bit applications, Mojave issues warnings when opening 32-bit apps that they will not be supported in future updates. The MoltenVK library can be used as a bridge, translating most of the Vulkan 1.0 API into the Metal API. MacOS does not natively support Vulkan, the Khronos group's official successor to OpenGL.
#MAC OS X MOJAVE DARK MODE DRIVER#
It reduces driver overhead and improves multithreading, allowing every CPU thread to send commands to the GPU. Metal reduces CPU load, shifting more tasks to the GPU. Metal makes use of the homogenized hardware by abandoning the abstraction layer and running on the "bare metal". As time went on, Apple has shifted its efforts towards building its hardware platforms for mobile and desktop use. At the time, moving to OpenGL allowed Apple to take advantage of existing libraries that enabled hardware acceleration on a variety of different GPUs.
#MAC OS X MOJAVE DARK MODE SOFTWARE#
Apple chose OpenGL in the late 1990s to build support for software graphics rendering into the Mac, after abandoning QuickDraw 3D. OpenGL is a cross-platform graphics framework designed to support a wide range of processors. The graphics frameworks OpenGL and OpenCL are still supported by the operating system, but will no longer be maintained developers are encouraged to use Apple's Metal library instead. MacOS Mojave deprecates support for several legacy features of the OS. Some features are not available on all compatible models.
#MAC OS X MOJAVE DARK MODE UPGRADE#
MacOS Mojave requires at least 2 GB of RAM as well as 12.5 GB of available disk space to upgrade from OS X El Capitan, macOS Sierra, or macOS High Sierra, or 18.5 GB of disk space to upgrade from OS X Yosemite and earlier releases.
Mac Pro: Late 2013 or newer Mid 2010 or Mid 2012 models require a Metal-capable GPU.
MacBook Pro: Mid 2012 or newer, Retina display not needed.
Compatible models are the following Macintosh computers running OS X Mountain Lion or later: Mojave requires a GPU that supports Metal, and the list of compatible systems is more restrictive than the previous version, macOS High Sierra. It was followed by several point updates and supplemental updates. The retail version of 10.14 was released on September 24. The developer preview of the operating system was released for developers the same day, followed by a public beta on June 26. Apple pitched Mojave, named after the California desert, as adding "pro" features that would benefit all users. MacOS Mojave was announced on June 4, 2018, at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California.
4.4 Other applications found on macOS 10.14 Mojave.
Mojave was well received and was supplemented by point releases after launch. It also includes a much more comprehensive " dark mode", is the final version of macOS to support 32-bit application software, and is also the last version of macOS to support the iPhoto app, which had already been superseded in OS X Yosemite (10.10) by the newer Photos app. MacOS Mojave brings several iOS apps to the desktop operating system, including Apple News, Voice Memos, and Home. It succeeded macOS High Sierra and was followed by macOS Catalina.
#MAC OS X MOJAVE DARK MODE SERIES#
The operating system's name refers to the Mojave Desert and is part of a series of California-themed names that began with OS X Mavericks. Mojave was announced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference on June 4, 2018, and was released to the public on September 24, 2018. MacOS Mojave ( / m oสŠ หˆ h ษ‘ห v i, m ษ™-/ mo- HAH-vee version 10.14) is the fifteenth major release of macOS, Apple Inc.'s desktop operating system for Macintosh computers.

#Substance 3d stager price professional#
We should be able to show more of it before the end of the year. Adobe Substance 3D Stager Adobe Substance 3D Stager Overview Adobe substance 3D stager is a powerful and comprehensive staging tool that provides a wide range of creative 3D design tools for scene design and rendering. The VR mode also has crazy new ways of building stuff that can only be done in a VR context. which allows side by side staging of ammo in Product Description. It doesn't work like anything that's out there in desktop mode, but it's really fun and intuitive. Net sells AR 308 and AR 15 parts at lower prices than the Parts & Tools.
#Substance 3d stager price professional#
What we're trying to do rather, like for Painter back then, is to try a completely new approach to modeling and create an app that makes it really easy to get into, but at the same time provides enough depth that you can create high-end professional stuff with. The goal is not to create yet another poly modeling app, there is enough of that on the market already and it's not really interesting. such fuel is not available at military contract price at the staging base. Not sure how it could be priced more fairly. The collection plan with Stager, Modeler and more content will be 49.99 but is 24.99 for a year. Again, plenty of room for improvement down the roadฤฏor Modeler, it's a different beast entirely. ( 2 ) Armed Forces Day ( 3d Saturday in May ) will be treated as a national. The texturing plan is the same price as the legacy Substance subscription. No shape scattering or hair support just yet. The tool is still young though, only a few months, so we have quite the road in front of us, including having more tutorials!ฤฏor the technical aspect, Stager uses a custom Vulkan based unbiased renderer and works on either GPU or CPU. The main advantages are how straightforward it is to get good results vs a traditional renderer and how it interacts with Painter/Designer (you can send models from Painter directly and it will retain all textures, shader settings, etc.). 2,658 Substance 3D models available for download in any file format, including FBX, OBJ, MAX, 3DS, C4D. It has a pretty wide range of use cases, from simple portfolio renders, to product design iterations and marketing material (ads) production in larger companies. Use Smart materials and have textures wrap onto your objects automatically, throw particles to easily add weathering effects with the help of the integrated physics engine or paint precise micro-details across complex asset. Substance 3D Painter adapts to you, no matter your skill level.
#Substance 3d stager price trial#
That's $5 more than the texturing tools only.ฤชs for the app itself, Stager is a tool for virtual photography. You will get free updates on Steam up to the end of 2022. what Adobe Substance 3D can do by downloading free trial versions of Stager, Painter, Sampler and Designer File size List of the materials : - Cave Rock. Right now you can get all the Substance tools (including Stager, extra content and Modeler when it comes out) for $25/month.

Spent the whole morning trying to log in to this blog just to ask an important question: If Vulcans are descended from cats so are Romulans. Does that mean they have to sleep for an unreasonable period of time and purr when stressed or happy? The most important question: does Elnor purr?

Zhen flinched at the sight of the young Entei. Expressions flashed on his features before he could hide them.
Regret. Sadness. Anger. None of which was directed at the little tyke. These emotions left him frozen in place, his beak silently opened ajar. He desperately wanted to speak but no words tumbled.
Luckily for him, the peculiar sight of Appos taking a seat next to Vulkan broke him free of the trance.
Tumblr media
"Ahaโ€ฆ yes," he laughed half heartedly, "I guess you're familiar with the tradition but let me talk about it for the little guy." His eyes never strayed towards the Entei again. It simply hurt too much to do so, self loathing directing inward for his lack of respect. His neck extended, beak reaching for the tree above them.
With ease, he snapped a branch in two, holding it tight in his beak.
"Bare with me," he spoke around, discomfort showing. "I suck at drawing but it's better to doodle this out."
His doodleโ€ฆ was worse than wear. To anyone observing, it would appear as if the Ho-oh was angrily drawing his frustrations out, taking it out on the ground beneath them.
Yet somehow in between the angry scribbling and his small cheers of success, one image was clear.
The distinct shape of a Ho-oh, lacking the numerous distinct curls he seemed to have, accompanied by several stick figures and a feather.
"Here." He was proud of himself, setting the stick aside, gesturing a wing towards the Ho-oh at the center. "My Predecessor." His words held no contempt for the figure, it was the bestily drawn image there.
Tumblr media
"Johto wasn't always a good place to live in. Pokรฉmon weren't as tamed as they are. They were fierce. Competitive. Fights broke out across the land and" -he spread his wings out dramatically- "into the human settlements. They were just finding their way here, surveying the area to see if the land was any good to live off of."
He sloppily picked up the stick again, doodling what looked to be an angry dog, a houndour. Many of them.
"Then fights between Pokรฉmon begin to happen a lot, neither wanting to budge." He began to scratch them out, one by one.
"My Predecessor, she didn't like this. They say she sang a mournful song one day. The song caused all to cry, to emphasize with one another. They began to seeโ€ฆ this wasn't the way."
"She gifted a selected few humans with her feathers, to show they had Ho-oh's blessings and act as peacemakers between humans and Pokรฉmon to bring harmony."
At the end, his voice oozed with disdain. Angrily he erased his drawings with a swoop of a wing.
"But they made a mockery of her gift. Producing fakes. They entered my tower with frauds with the hope of receiving my blessings and mocked her legacy," he hissed. "They can't be trusted again with her feathers. My feathers."
"So I burned them. Every single one of them."

I follow you for darksiders, but seeing your wh40k posts, the worms are slowly starting to take over. ๐Ÿ˜…
I also read one book (sign of faith) that I kind of liked (I like character suffering to end in some merit, but it seems in this universe it's not how I usually imagine/like)...
From your writings I'm starting to take in interest the custodes, Guilliman, Vulkan and Corvus.
Could you recommend some standalone books? I wrote down some from your recent asks to check out, but if you can suggest more I'd be happy!
It's Monday morning where I am, so whishing you a nice week, may your work hours pass quickly!
I apologize in advance for this
I'm going to use amazon links just so you know what I'm referring to for sure, but they're available as ebooks on Black Library as well if you're a charlatan that doesn't like physical books. These are my own personal opinions, please don't burn me alive.
Now, not all of the primarch books are good. But they are good standalone books if you enjoy getting into a particular primarch/legion and how they think. I can vouch for the Konrad Curze one (it's the best one imo), and the Alpharius one. I also see a lot a lot of people that say the Angron one and Lion'el one is good but i haven't personally read them.
There isn't too many Vulkan/Salamander books sadly, I can only think of Tomb of Fire but that's a series. For Corvus, there's the Corvus anthology. You don't have to read HH to follow, it's largely just about Corvus and raven guard specific adventures.
Unfortunately compared to Girlyman, there really isn't much for Vulkan and Corvus. They're largely ignored by BL along with the White Scars.
I know it's not technically a standalone book but Night Lords omnibus is a fucking mandatory read. It's 3 books and you can get the all in one book on amazon for like 20 bucks. Even if you don't like Night Lords/Chaos, the writing alone makes it such a good read.
The Infinite and the Divine is another mandatory read. It's a good break from Space marine content too, since there's so much of it.
I haven't personally read this one so i can't vouch for it, but if you like human/astartes interaction Legacy of Dorn is supposed to be decent.
If you like Guilliman, I highly recommend the Dark Imperium trilogy. Again not a single book, but it's a good series that really shows just how different Guilliman is from his legion now, and how he's having to jump right into fighting a war he had hoped would be long ended by now.
Helsreach is very good. Death korps of Krieg is also supposed to be good, but I can't vouch for it personally.
I'm sure there's so many other books I'm missing. I can't vouch for them all because I've only read a few dozen or so, but these are some of my personal favorites.
Now an added note here: The Horus Heresy books are a nightmare. BUT, you can read them as standalone if you want, because they're less of an coherent storyline and more of a webbed mess of content like Star Wars. If you have a rough idea of the main 'idea' of the Heresy, you can read them solo. In fact many people do just pick and choose the HH books they want to read based on what legion they're interested in. I recommend Betrayer (angron content <3), The first Heretic (Lorgar and his piss kink lol), Fulgrim, Deliverance lost, and Unremembered Empire.

Legacy AMD APU Llano Laptop for Emulation tests - Part 2
Software tools and Emulators used.
I covered everything about my laptop and its history. I went from Windows 10 to Manjaro XFCE 19 and installed needed software to get great performance and needed emulators to suit my laptop's hardware. I find AUR builds easy again because I can find plugins and needed standalone emulators for good testing. AUR builds work almost perfect for me, aside from some build time, but as long as it can installed a program or an extension, I'm good.
For my laptop, I installed TPC, or TurionPowerControl to overclock my laptop's CPU. The bios doesn't have an option for permanent overclock, since it's a laptop. However, the CPU has used much voltage by default for big room for overclocking with little higher power draw. At stock, it run at base 1.5Ghz at 1.1625V and 2.4Ghz boost at 1.415V. It can easily be undervolted to cool the laptop a bit. The temp limit is at 85C, so it can throttle the CPU if it reaches around that point. Undervolt would go down to 1.5Ghz at 1.0625V and 2.4Ghz boost at 1.200V, which brings down about seven percent deop on temperature, and little more battery life. Overclock would hit up to 2.3Ghz at 1.175V and 2.8Ghz at 1.400V, only little voltage change on each, and still runs stable. Note that each CPUs can differ silicon quality that can reach lower or higher voltage for overclocking or undervolting. Averagely, my laptop's CPU performance would be 33% increase. The Llano APUs are one of the exceptions that you can overclock your laptop without much worry.
I installed Gamemode for Linux, and I explained in the last page. It's useful for setting power mode for both CPU and GPU to performance mode, so it will use highest clock speed as much as it can. Radeon-Profile is an app on Linux that can force power mode on GPU if you run a program if you can't use gamemode for whatever reason. On Windows, you can force performance mode on Catalyst driver, and have Windows set to performance mode on power setup. Drivers used on Linux as of this writing is Mesa r600g Driver 19.3.
Now let's get to the list of emulators I will be using for each system. Some are using Retroarch.
NES: I'm using Nestopia and Mesen on Retroarch. Both are quite accurate, with the latter being the most accurate. Nestopia is the fastest option, but Mesen can run pretty smoothly too with default settings. Nestopia has much more headroom for Runahead and NES CPU overclocking. I use FireBrandX's digital palettes.
SNES: I use Snes9x Mainline for Retroarch and new standalone Bsnes v110 for test. Snes9x runs very well and can use both features listed above. Bsnes is used for testing mostly. I'll explain about Bsnes, but what I can say is it can run a lot of games at fullspeed. No need for Libretro's old many Bsnes cores in my opinion and Snes9x Mainline is suitable generally. Bsnes AUR builds are available.
N64: On Windows, it was Project64 with Jabo's D3D8 1.6.1 Plugin, but after switching to Linux, Mupen64Plus with GlideN64 while using Mesa drivers offers a better option. Since February 2020, M64p is free once again so you don't have to do DIY build for each plugin to use with Mupen64plus, and get good GUI. Just go to this website: https://github.com/loganmc10/m64p/releases . If it doesn't go free in the future, you would have to use AUR files to build plugins and find the gui. There is Mupen64Plus Next for Retroarch, but a standalone build is the fastest and more reliable option.
Gamecube/Wii: I use beta builds of Dolphin to measure it. We'll explain about that later on.
Sega SMS/Genesis/GameGear/32x: I use Genesis GX Plus on Retroarch, and it runs pretty great. For 32x, I can use Kega Fusion for Windows, or Picodrive core, but I don't have 32x game to test.
Sega Saturn: I use Yaba Sanshiro, and it's the fastest emulator you can get for the laptop. Yaba Sanshiro has some great options.
Sega Dreamcast: I installed Redream. It is the fastest dreamcast emulator available and more accurate than NullDC. I do have a fork of Reicast called Flycast that is used for testing too. https://flyinghead.github.io/flycast-builds/ (ubuntu build is just linux build). I do recommend using Flycast standalone builds instead of Libretro core one since standalone Hardware-based rendering emulators often run faster than on Retroarch.
Playstation 1: I use both PCSX-R PGXP and PCSX-Rearmed core. PCSX-R has great option for perspective correction and much less jittering polygons while being faster than Libretro's Beetle PSX core and standalone Mednafen. The explanation on those four emulators and the windows PCSX-R on Pete's OpenGL2 Tweak will also be mentioned.
Playstation 2: I use PCSX2.
GB/GBC: Sameboy. It is more accurate than Gambatte and VBA.
GBA: mGBA, and it is the fastest and most accurate GBA emulator I used.
NDS: Despite development drama, I use standalone Desmume mainline. It's pretty good for this laptop since you have an option to use frameskip. MelonDS with JIT will be included.
3DS: Citra Canary is the best option.
PSP: PPSSPP.
Dos: Dosbox ECE or Dosbox-X at best. ECE install for Dosbox is difficult, and you would need to build one, but I wanted a 32bit build since the dynamic core is pretty robust in 32bit. However on Linux, some forks or main are kinda hard to find 32bit version to have full speed for dynamic recompiler since 64bit is slower or has bugs. At the end, I use Dosbox-X, and it performs the same as standard Dosbox on normal mode. On Dynamic mode, you would need 32bit version to get the exact on either Windows or Linux.
Win9x: PCEM. Using v15 and use 486 CPUs.
Wine: Linux specific to run Windows programs. You can use Stable builds or Staging builds. Lutris and Proton can be used. Although, since my laptop's APU lacks Vulkan support, running DX11 games are much harder and barely run. The APU isn't really that strong for many DX11 games anyway. DX9 works with default OpenGL wrapper, but since we're using AMD GPU with a Mesa Gallium Driver, we can run Native DX9 API on Wine with Gallium Nine Standalone. You just install needed dependencies for Mesa D3D9 files to have Gallium Nine config enable Native DX9. DX10 is the same story as DX11. DX8 and lower works pretty good for the most part. Note that Wine is not an Emulator, but a compatibility layer.
Those are the softwares that will be used for performance testing on the next page.
Next Page on CPU emulation tests.
Previous Page on the laptop overview.

Graphics card comparison list: GPU Benchmarks Ranking- Rx 580, 570, Gt 2060
Tumblr media
Take a look a this Comprehensive Coverage of tNVIDIA and AMD graphics card equivalency guide: What are the equivalence of the Radeon Rx 580, GTX 400, 500 and 600, HD 6850-6870, RTX 2080 TI and a lot more. NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards accumulate a large number of different generations that we can consider as "suitable" to move games of the present generation. It is a risky idea, since performance can vary a lot depending on each specific game, but it works perfectly thanks to the long life cycle that PS4 and Xbox One are having. Graphics card comparison list GPU Benchmarks Order The fact that so many generations of NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards coexist, both in the market for new or refurbished products, as well as in the second-hand market, and that it is feasible to mount equipment with which to play titles of the current generation, makes more and more users wonder what current graphics card is equivalent to the model they have . It is an important question, since this equivalence determines not only the starting point that we should take as a reference if we plan to update , but it also allows us to get a rough idea of โ€‹โ€‹the performance that we can expect based on the requirements listed by the developers and better assimilate the benchmarks and performance analyzes frequently published by many specialized media. With the arrival of the Radeon VII and the GeForce RTX 20 series, we have decided to update our equivalency guide and we will also take advantage of it to expand content and shape a slightly more complete guide. We remind you that we also published a guide to the equivalences of Intel and AMD processors, a great complement to this guide to NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards that will help you to be clear about all the equivalences of your equipment. Without further ado we begin. In case you have any questions, you can leave it in the comments. DirectX 12 and Vulkan support on NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards Before going fully into talking about specific equivalents of NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards, always focusing on the approximate performance of each graphics solution, we must review the APIs supported in each graphics generation. This is very important since, although the raw performance of two graphics cards may be similar in general terms, the support or not of a certain API can make a significant difference in games. Titles like DOOM or Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus are a clear example of how the use of Vulkan can significantly increase performance, as long as the team accompanies. - DirectX 9 : it is a basic level that fell into disuse with the arrival of the present generation of consoles. It came in 2002 so we don't have to worry as it is very old and any graphics card released in the last fifteen years is supported. - DirectX 10 : It arrived in 2006 promising a revolution, but in the end it had a minority presence. All graphics cards starting with the GeForce 8000 and Radeon HD 2000 series offer support at this level. - DirectX 11 : released in 2009, although its use did not become widespread until the arrival of PS4 and Xbox One . It remains the most popular API for PC game development. NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards released in the GTX 400 series, Radeon HD 5000 series and above are generally compatible with it. - DirectX 12 : arrived in 2015. It represents an important advance in terms of optimization compared to DirectX 11, but it is not being properly taken advantage of. It has entry-level support starting with NVIDIA's GTX 400 series and AMD's Radeon HD 7000, but only the most advanced models, such as the GTX 10 and Radeon RX 400-500 and Radeon RX Vega, make truly optimal use of it. - Vulkan: ย A low-level API full of potential that has proven itself in various games, thanks to its ability to make good use of resources. It is supported on NVIDIA GTX 600 and higher graphics cards, and AMD Radeon HD 7000 and higher graphics cards. If we have a graphics card prepared to work with DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 you should bear in mind that it is likely that it will lose performance under this last API, especially if it is relatively old. This is usually due to two main reasons: - Poor implementation and optimization by developers, as well as drivers with limited optimization for new generations. - Poor performance due to an architecture that was not originally intended to work with such an API. The latter occurs, for example, with the GTX 400, 500 and 600. If you have a graphics card located in any of those generations,ย  it is best to use DirectX 11 mode at all times , since in DirectX 12 mode you will only have a notable loss of performance. NVIDIA and AMD Graphics Card Equivalence: Legacy Models To avoid a very long list that could generate confusion, we have decided to group the different equivalences into two large sections, one dedicated to the models that we can consider as old, in which we include the GeForce GTX 500 series and lower generations , and the Radeon HD 6000 e lower. We must bear in mind that, in some cases, the equivalences are not totally exact and that we always speak of approximate average performance . This means, in short, that a particular model may perform better or worse than its equivalent in certain games, and vice versa. NVIDIA graphics cards - GeForce 8800 GT-9800 : its closest equivalent is found in the GeForce GT 630-GT730 and GT 640, although its support is limited to DirectX 10. - GeForce GTX 260 : they are more or less at the level of a GTX 650, although they only support DirectX 10. - GeForce GTX 285 : In raw performance it falls between a GTX 650 and a GTX 650 Ti-GTX 750, but only supports DirectX 10. - GeForce GTX 460 and 560 : in general they perform almost on the same level as a GTX 650 Ti-GTX 750. They support DirectX 11 and DirectX 12. - GeForce GTX 470-480 and 570-580 : They perform better than a GTX 660-GTX 750 Ti, but they are their closest equivalents. - GeForce GTX 590 - This is a dual GPU solution. Its performance varies from game to game but generally ranks roughly at the level of a GTX 680 and at the level of a Radeon 7970. That is its full equivalent on NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards. AMD graphics cards - Radeon HD 3870 : its performance is somewhat lower than that offered by the R7 240 in general, always talking about versions with DDR3 memory. They only support DirectX 10 and are less efficient. Limited to DirectX 10.1. - Radeon HD 4870 : Performs similarly to the Radeon HD 7770-R7 250X, although they do fall a bit behind in some games. They only have DirectX 10.1 support. - Radeon HD 5770 : ranks between the Radeon HD 7750 and the HD 7770-R7 250X. They support DirectX 11. - Radeon HD 5870 : performs almost at the same level as the Radeon HD 7850-R7 265-R7 360. They support DirectX 11. - Radeon HD 6850-6870 : Has a performance that falls between a Radeon HD 7790-R7 260X and a Radeon HD 7850-R7 265-R7 360. They support DirectX 11. - Radeon HD 6950-6970 : performs almost the same as the Radeon HD 7870-R9 270. DirectX 11 support. - Radeon HD 6990 : This is a dual-GPU solution, which means that its performance depends on taking advantage of the CrossFire mode of each specific game. In general it can reach the level of a Radeon HD 7950-7970. It supports DirectX 11. That is its full equivalent on NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards. NVIDIA and AMD Graphics Card Equivalence: Current Models In this section we will see those graphics cards from both companies that we can consider as current due to specifications, support and performance, although they are framed in architectures that already have a few years behind them. The benchmark that we have taken as a criterion has been the AMD GCN architecture, which has served to give life to the current generation consoles, and which is used in the Radeon HD 7000. Its contemporaries were the NVIDIA GTX 600. NVIDIA graphics cards Equivalence - GTX 650: ย Its closest equivalent is a GT 740 with GDDR5 memory. If we look for its equivalence in AMD solutions, it performs almost the same as an HD 7750. - GTX 650 TI : it performs a little less than a GTX 750. Guide: Old and Current Graphics Card Equivalences GPUs are, along with CPUs, the components that raise the most doubts when updating, and not only because of compatibility with the rest of our team, but also because of the doubt as to whether certain models will really mark an important leap.at the performance level compared to our current graphics card. Knowing that is very important, since if we are not clear about it, it is more than likely that we will end up buying a new graphics card that does not really represent a big improvement compared to the one we have been using, and that therefore we will make a bad purchase . That said, we can better understand the importance of this guide, in which we will point out the approximate equivalences in performance of different graphic generations of AMD and NVIDIA, starting from the GeForce 8000 and HD 3000 series, although before we will make clear the different levels of DirectX support of each generation, so that the structure of the article is more orderly and makes it easier your inquiry. As always, we encourage you to leave your opinion in the comments. -DirectX 9: any current graphics card supports this level that started with the GeForce FX 5000 series and Radeon 9000 series. It is still present in some current games, such as Resident Evil Revelations 2, for example.-DirectX 10: it has had a minority presence. All graphics cards starting with the GeForce 8000 and Radeon HD 2000 series offer support at this level.-DirectX 11: is the great protagonist today. We have support starting with the GTX 400 series and Radeon HD 5000 series from NVIDIA and AMD, respectively.-DirectX 12: There are several different tiers, the first being those focused on improving performance and the highest being geared towards new graphics technologies and effects. Basic support starts with NVIDIA's GTX 400 and AMD's Radeon HD 7000. Reviewing the equivalences: NVIDIA We go on to review the approximate performance equivalences of old graphics cards compared to previous solutions. We will focus on the most important and widespread models, otherwise there would be an excessively long article, and in the case of NVIDIA we will go as far as the GTX 690 to maximize the usefulness of the guide. - GeForce 8800 GT and the like: They are close to the performance of the GT 630 and GT 640, and therefore that of the GT 730, but only in their versions with DDR3. They are less efficient and do not support DirectX 11. - ย  2. GeForce GTX 260: The most correct direct comparison we can make is the GTX 650, although the latter supports DirectX 11, it is much more efficient and generally performs somewhat better depending on each game. - ย 3. GeForce GTX 285It is placed between a GTX 650 and a GTX 650 Ti, and therefore it is close to a GTX 750, but like the GTX 260 it only supports DirectX 10 and has a very high consumption. - ย 4. GeForce GTX 460 and 560: They perform about the same level as a GTX 650 Ti, which means they are similar to a GTX 750. They support DirectX 11, but are less efficient. - 5. GeForce GTX 480 and 580: They offer better performance than a GTX 660, which means that they outperform the GTX 750 Ti, but fall short of a GTX 660 Ti or a GTX 760. - 6. GTX 660:They offer higher performance than the GTX 750 Ti, but lag behind the GTX 950. They have lower DirectX 12 support than the NVIDIA 700 and 900 series. - 7. GeForce GTX 670: They perform almost identically to the GTX 760 and are not much different from the GTX 960, although the latter are superior for architecture and DirectX 12 support. - 8.Geforce Read the full article

Linux Life Episode 79
Tumblr media
Hello ladies and gentlemen to my ongoing Linux journey. Well it has been a while since our last entry and I even declared that I was giving up on writing blogs but it seems I am back at it for the moment.
Well the reason I am back is I am now running my 17โ€ Dell Precision M6800 i7 laptop (Mangelwurzel) on Garuda Linux (KDE Dr460nized Edition) to be precise. Which is an Arch Linux distribution.
Garuda Linux seems to have very stunning use of Graphical UI. Making it a very aesthetically pleasing thing to look at. However as it is an Arch distribution, it is a rolling release and regularly kept up to date.
You might think I am stating the obvious here but Garuda seem to have their own version of the AUR (Arch User Repository) known as Chaotic AUR which I assume is very similar to how Manjaro keep control of certain aspects of various programs to keep compatibility.
However it does seem to be very up to date so it may just be a slight name change to make it seem unique.
Garuda Linux seem to pride themselves on producing an operating system that as well as being fast can be optimised for gaming and even has its own Garuda Gamer app to help you get under way.
I would love to tell you more but as the laptop has an Nvidia Quadra K3100. I canโ€™t take full advantage of the full Nvidia driver as this card is classed as among the legacy drivers not current configurations.
So it is running X Windows and KDE using the open Source Nouveau driver which will work with Open GL but will not allow access to certain things like Vulkan, so Lutris and VDXK can not be used or Proton from Steam.
However Steam can be used to play the various Linux ports and I managed to get Terraria running fine with no issues. Wine equally works fine provided you donโ€™t need any Direct X graphics, so standard Windows apps still work.
Now previously when I have installed Linux on this machine the issue has always been with Wi-Fi and admittedly it is still patchy to say the least. If I run just using the Dell Wireless 1500 card it connects for about three minutes at best and fails then you have to disconnect and reconnect. Sometimes this reinitialises it sometimes it doesnโ€™t.
At the moment I am using a strangely AD-Hoc solution in the form of a Vonets Wi-Fi bridge. However it is not working in its usual configuration. Normally you set up the Vonets bridge to your Wi-Fi and then the machine sees it as an Ethernet device thus allowing you access to Wi-Fi that way.
However thatโ€™s not which way it is being used by the Dell currently It is using the Vonets bridge like a Wi-Fi Extender. Using the USB power to extend and give access to the existing Wi-Fi allowing it to see the 5G band that the Dell Wi-Fi card canโ€™t see.
Also the Ethernet although not claiming to be connected. If disconnected the signal drops out rapidly making it much the same as without it. So it is either using it as a further power drawing method to amplify the signal or it is using it as an antenna using the chassis of the laptop as a larger surface area.
All I know is it works in this strange configuration and it has no idea an Ethernet device is even been used if KDE is reporting as it should. Weird but Iโ€™m not going to question it as it works with Internet this way fine.
Only thing I discovered issues with was when I tried to install Scribus. It really doesnโ€™t like dark themes and all the icons are impossible to see and the page went haywire if you minimised the app and reopened it.
Quirk with Scribus ? or issue with KDE I have no idea. All I know is I wonโ€™t be running it at this time.
However other than odd internet and strange moments with Scribus everything else seems to work fine.
Only strange item is the default browser they use is called FireDragon, which seems to be a spin off of Firefox with lots of strange extensions and branding. It seemed rather clunky in parts and interesting in others.
However you can just install Firefox and use that which is what I did.
One thing that I do like is Garuda Linux by default uses the BTRFS file system which much more stable and better at recovery than the ext4 system used by others.
Donโ€™t like KDE ? Then Garuda Linux also has XFCE, Gnome, LxQt, Wayfire, Qtile, BSPWM, Sway and i3WM editions. If you want a pure Arch DIY approach they even have a bare bones edition for the hardcore among you.
There is even a community edition that runs MATE. However as it community driven I have no idea how its supported.
Would I recommend Garuda Linux ? Well so far it has been exceptionally good with only a few minor issues which are nothing to do with it as a Linux distro. It seems quite competent and fast so if you are looking for an Arch based distribution. Feel free to give it a look.
Well thatโ€™s enough for this episode, so until I return...Take care.

My Blackalicious Chief Xcel Imani Vol 1 New Noise Hip Hop inty
Reposting this from the vault to honor the passing of the great Gift Of Gab (RIP).
Blackalicious: Gotta have "Imani" By Morgan Y. Evans Special thanks to Micah Blumenthal
"You never get to a point where you know everything, and if you ever do that is the point where it all ends." - Chief Xcel
It was a straight up honor to talk to someone as innovative as Chief Xcel of hip hop's mighty Blackalicious crew, back in a time that needs them more than ever to deliver the ambitious Imani Vol. 1, the first part of a stupendous trilogy and their first LP in a decade. Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel remain fluid, astute, sharp, culture rooted and funky on this banger, which features a range of guests from ย Amde of The Watts Prophets to Lateef, Zap Mama, Imani Coppola, Lyrics Born and more. The Swahili word for "faith", Imani will spark your faith that hip hop and real soul can never die as long as it is alive in the hearts of people of good will.
Gift of Gab has the fluid and fast skills you can hear in someone like Shad, Weerd Science or Vulkan The Crusader these days, but with that O.G. veteran's delivery and knowledge that carries extra gravitas or playfullness in lighter tone moments, while Chief just kills with production that looks all directions at once, through a prism of what hip hop was, is and can yet be.
It is colorful, as real art and life experiences ache to be.
1. You guys got Prince crazy on this record! You have three records in the process. This one already has so any textures and sounds. Really inspiring, right out the gate. It sets a great tone set against what's going on right now.
Chief Xcel: Indeed, indeed. Thanks, man. I really appreciate that.
2. I am an Upstate, Ny white dude who grew up in Woodstock. I'll never say I understand the plight of the African American. I can try and have empathy but I wont say that "I understand". I appreciate hip hop culture and this is the kind of record that can create unity. What was it like having this outpouring of creativity?
Thanks, I appreciate that. For us, every time we come together to make these records they're all learning processes, y'know what I mean? Gab and I early on in our careers decided we want to take the attitude of the student. Music is infinite in the directions you can go or the directions it can take you. Infinite. You never get to a point where you know everything, and if you ever do that is the point where it all ends. For us we always wanted the passion and tenacity for learning new things, trying new things...just being vessels for the creativity. You get to a point where you realize there's a force beyng you and much bigger than you. Common had a line in one of his songs that said "Affected lives is where the wealth and merit is" and it's really true. When you step into it with that humility, that's when the most power comes out of it. So that is our coach, creatively. That spirit, y'know?
3. I relate to what your saying. If Miles Davis was content he never would've made Bitches Brew, which totally changed his sound, y'know?
Yeah, totally. Totally. You work to establish a body of work way beyond one record. When you realize you are trying to establish a body of work, you keep evolving. You never want to stay in the same place. Miles is the quintessental example of that.
4. One thing I've loved about you guys, Tribe or even early Jungle Brothers, it was about quality. You guys still have an old school flavor, old school funk and modern twists. I loved "Ashes To Ashes". Really cool. You bring the soul in and feeling, the real street funk I feel like people responded to so well in the new Kendrick record To Pimp A Butterfly, not just studio pop.
Yeah, you know...I mean, we just try to make soul music, man. Know what I mean? We have no intentions or desire to be retro on any kind of level. Our method from day one has been something rooted in the foundations but always trying to expand. That's just how we get down. We strive to sound fresh and hold up, stand the test of time. I want you to hear Blazing Arrow today and still love it the same way as when you first heard it (author's note: I still love that Harry Nilson sample from The Point). Nia or The Craft, take the same thing away from it. ย
5. I think you succeeded on this one. The collaborations you pulled in amazing people like the song "Imani" with Zap Mama on the end. It rounds things out in such a beautiful way at the end of this installment.
It was just such a blessing to work with her. She is a creative genius and beauty on every level. When people say Marie or Zap Mama, the only words that can come to mind are amazing and incredible.
6. It seems your creative wheels were really spinning. I know you had challenges but how many things happened you never could've planned, like synchronicity?
We are always working. We're in the zone. I'm so deep into the development of the tracks. We're working on Volume 2 now. Gab is writing. The second movement of the story, since Imani is three movements. We really haven't had the opportunity yet to sit back and be like "wow". We're still moving forward.
7. The cover art has this eye candy, pop art but classic album and funk feel. You want to stop and look at it. It makes you feel something. Bright colors. You wanna put on headphones and lose yourself in it.
That's Bret Rollins, the visual art member of Blackalicious. All the U.S. releases since the start, at least, have been designed by Brent. An unsaid member. What I love about working with him is I'll give him any record and say create and that's what he does every single time. From, y'know, the very first one Melodica to The Nia cover to Blazing Arrow and The Craft. It's funny you mentioned it because I was just talking to him the other day and I want to put his pieces on big canvases. They're art, not just a record cover.
8. How fun was it making "On Fire Tonight"? I like the rapid fire flow and the "ba-ba-bum" horns. It feels live. Like you are watching it happen even while just listening to a stream of the song.
Yeah, that song is really...if there's any sort of like Big Daddy Kane infused songs in our catalogue, that is a nod to his greatness on "Wrath of Kane" or "Raw", where the beat is hard. I just kind of set the stage for Gab and let him go. It's what people love to hear him do. We just try and start with a concept and allow a story to tell itself as we're creating. That's always been our thing. I've always felt like the song will tell you what it needs. We just try and listen.
9. That's cool. Some people try and force it. I think maybe that's why your songs feel complete, even when telling part of an album's story. You don't want to skip a track. How did "Blacka" come together? It's an anthem track.
"Blacka" was one of the first songs we recorded. We'd recorded like sixty songs for Volume 1, we just narrowed it down to like 16. "Blacka" was like the actual first thing we recorded. It set it off.
10. My friend Micah works with O Positive Festival which is about trying to get health care for musicians. He is one of the bigger hip hop heads I know and had a question for you. He said ," hip hop, unlike most forms of music, is a culture. A way of behaving. A way people define themselves, for better or worse. It's become synonymous for African American culture and even for youth culture, regardless of skin." You have a diverse sound that maybe is outside of the mainstream sound that gets sold to African American youth. How does it feel to have the legacy but maybe not fit in sometimes? Where do you feel you fit in?
I feel we are icons within a genre. I feel like we have our own way and have worked hard to build our own lane. That's what happens when you make things on your own terms. It's kind of funny because the biggest song in our catalogue rose to prominence just in the past 6-8 months. It's a song we did fifteen years ago and people from 13 to 83 know at this point. What is mainstream in this day amd age? It had a meaning when there was one outlet, which was basically the radio, but with the true coming of the information age, mainstream is so many different things to so many people. We're really blessed to have a lot of fans on every continent. No matter where we are, Chicago, Oakland, Capetown, Sydney, Paris...I always feel blessed when people come up and say they put our record on and it made their day a little bit easier. I always say ,"Damn, this is what it's all about."
