Wednesday, the cold, gloomy, emotionless girl who'd never see herself falling in love, meets you, a quiet, shy, very much not emotional girl. She doesn't understand you; your power isn't something you mention. She has to pull it out of Enid. When the two of you finally get close she'd never imagine falling in love with you. You fell deep enough in love to show her the lengths you'd go to protect her.

Finding love wasn't something you had planned for your four years at Nevermore. Your plans? Figure out your powers, how to control them, and abuse them. You wanted to use these powers to your advantage, yet you couldn't even understand them. Some type of reality morphing that had the horrible side effect of dreams- no. Nightmares. You hated them. Your power was meant to be shitty reality morphing that you couldn't control. That was subtle you'd had the scarily realistic dream. A dress that wasn't a dream or a nightmare. No no. It was a vision. You wanted to stay quiet and distant while trying to figure out said powers. That was until you met Wednesday. So much for not falling in love. Cause you did. You fell hard. Hard enough to become a sacrifice.

Who could hate such a sweet girl? Nobody. Not when she had you. Before Wednesday came to Nevermore, you were her "protector," as she put it. You were a silent person, a paper that nobody really knew much about. Therefore, you had some sort of power. People knew you could morph reality with pen and paper, but they didn't know if you couldn't even control or use said power. When Wednesday came she was mysterious. Mystery causes curiosity, curiosity causes fear, fear causes power and power causes obedience. Enid was sweet and bubbly, you never knew how she hadn't gotten strangled by someone yet. She was sweet, vulnerable, and easy to hurt. You kept an eye on Wednesday to make sure she wouldn't hurt your sweet Enid. She didn't. But if she did you'd be sure to figure out your power.

"Why did Monty do That?"

Or: the wall arc, explained!

The shortest possible version is: it's an extension of his boundary-testing behavior, in addition to testing the level of importance he holds in the clusterfucks. He was testing Annabel and Lenore both, with this, trying to see at which point either of them would snap and hit him (literally or metaphorically- he just wants to find that line)

The slightly longer version is:

We see this repeated boundary-testing behavior from Monty time and time again. Like a dog who's been kicked before, he has to know what territory is safe and where the 'hard' line is for what's "unacceptable". He pushes Lenore, invades her mind, tries to get her friends to kill her, because he wants to see when she shows her teeth.

He makes a show of wanting to torture (and actually torturing) Berenice and Eulalie, because he wants to see if that is where Lenore's line lies, or if someone will stop him then.

He makes Ada get on her knees and bark for him because he wants to see if she'll stick to her "we could work together" beliefs, or if she'll cave to someone dehumanizing her. It's a more assessing kind of boundary-pressing, but.. undeniably, it's boundary-pressing all the same.

He directly challenges Annabel's authority by suggesting something so patently ludicrous as murder- because he wants to see if and when she or Prospero will tell him 'no', if they'll actually follow through on any display of their power.

It's a very "me, who's been eating the chess pieces while they're not looking" attempt at assessing Annabel's power, granted- he doesn't understand his own sway in the group because he pointedly underestimates Will's devotion to him- but Annabel does, and knows that a direct "no" is an unwise move. She redirects- and that's not a 'hard' line, so.. Monty follows through.

He find's Duke's line, very clearly- and Lenore's and Pluto's, too. He gets what he wants from this: finding the hard lines of a majority of the people around him. Morella doesn't play with phonies, so he makes Annabel push her to (and over) her line; Pluto becomes brave to the point of willing to kill in the face of his friends in danger; Duke won't keep the peace if you try to kill him (..obviously); Lenore loses her ever-present sympathy if you go for her confidantes. And, he finds Annabel's line, in a way, too: she's not letting him act like he's entirely unaffected by his stunts anymore. She refuses to entertain his facade. If he wants to play his stupid games, she'll give him the prize he wants: a line that she refuses to let him cross.

The arc happens because Montressor is a deeply unhealthy person who copes supremely maladaptively with his own trauma. He forces the establishment of these hard lines because he feels more secure knowing where they lay- because The Line has to be somewhere before murder, and he has to find where that point is.

(We also see this play out in ch120- he's uncertain as Will moves the line, he doesn't know where his own lines lay, and when Will dies and comes back with seemingly no knowledge of the line he pushed, Monty is left shaken both by the events that just happened and the knowledge that other people mirror his unhealthy behaviors and boundary-testing)

everything here is from free chapters, but I've put it under a cut anyways in case someone isn't caught up, because I do discuss some season 2 stuff. screenshot-heavy, talking about Ada.

so we know that Ada, obviously, just wants to be loved. mainly she leans on the idea of romantic love, but she clearly just wants any kind of acceptance, given that her reaction to Morella cutting her off seems genuine before she starts blustering again.

I also think her attempt to connect with Lenore in 37 was genuine, because Ada seems to be a pretty bad liar, or at least bad at "being bad," so I don't think she's faking this conversation.

Ada also quite clearly seems to believe she has to earn love or be useful somehow. On a meta level this is reflected in her original life as a maid, and in-story still manifests as doing whatever Montresor says, even before Prospero rejected her. From the start she's been doing what she's told for no reason other than to "belong" somewhere.

in comparison to Montresor [eager as hell] and Will [at least neutral], Ada also doesn't seem down with walling up Duke, but she goes along without really complaining because it's what they want her to do.

Ada wants to be useful no matter what, because then she'll finally be loved this time, right? and what's the best way to be useful? to be strong.

Maybe it's because I reread the dreamland/amontillado chapters a lot, but it seems that Ada is incredibly quick to pull out her specter. We've seen her at least 3 times in a [relatively] short span; first manifesting in 69-71,

then reappearing again in 82-88,

and most recently in 110-111.

That seems fast, right? In comparison, Berenice and Eula have only manifested once, Pluto has only really used his specter once-- he didn't do anything with it in the maze, only in the tower-- and I believe we've only seen Montresor once as well, maybe twice if my memory's bad. Ada defaults to her specter as quickly as possible because it's the only way she feels confident in her usefulness.

So where am I going with all this? I think Ada's going to lose access to her specter for a long, long time.

the stag clearly overloaded her with power, right? it didn't seem to drain her at all-- it made her so strong, her body couldn't handle it anymore.

based on this, I think it can go in one of two directions, and I think they're equally likely. either 1: Ada can no longer manifest at all. this would put her at a massive disadvantage in comparison to other students, but it would put her on equal playing field with Lenore specifically, and could be an interesting way to actually develop a proper connection between the two. Especially given that there's a chance Lenore's group experiences some strain in their relationships, there's room to work Ada in. of course she'd regain her ability eventually, but it would probably require more #trauma along the way.

or 2: because of the stag's residual power, Ada's become so strong that she can no longer control it. she's a liability now. sure, she's powerful, but what good is that power if you can't use it properly? Annabel is running a tight ship, and I don't think she'd be interested in relying on a volatile transformation that might hurt her group on accident instead of Lenore's friends on purpose.

whatever ends up happening on that front, Ada is once again stripped of what she considers her only value. She was useless to everyone before she manifested, and after finally proving herself, she's been forcibly reverted back to step one. As far as she knows, Monty won't want her without her specter, but Morella has made it clear there's no room for friendship without an attitude adjustment. Ada is going to be alone again, even though for the briefest moment, she finally had what she wanted. it's a fantastic chance for character development, because if you can't be loved, be useful; if you can't be useful, what's after that?

PLUTO IN ASTROLOGY

The insatiability within.

Wherever you have Pluto, it's what you do endlessly.

If you have Pluto in the first house, then this means that you are endlessly focused on yourself, endlessly minding your business, endlessly focused on your body or your physique.

When you have Pluto in the second house, you could be endlessly focused on consuming stuff, whether it's food, whether it's money, whether it's something that you can collect. But basically, we know that the second house is definitely the house that is connected to consumption. And I would know because I have second house placements. Made me think of Succubus.

But it's even more interesting having Pluto there because this means that you have an endless capability or capacity to really consume this or that.

When you have Pluto in the third house, you endlessly talk, you endlessly gossip, or you endlessly hang around your friends. You could be endlessly involved with all things third house. So you could be endlessly involved with your neighborhood, endlessly involved with friends that you met years back. Because let's not forget that Pluto rules Scorpio. We know that history is kind of connected to that sign in a way. Just like how the eighth house itself is connected to accumulation. So if you have Pluto in the third house, you could be endlessly involved with people for a long, long time.

For the most part, when you have Pluto in the fourth house, You could be endlessly a homebody or endlessly focused on building a home, constructing or reconstructing a home. But somehow you're just endlessly involved in the home life in some type of way. Now, it will probably be interesting if this is a trine to Saturn because this could literally make you involved in real estate in major ways. And when it comes to real estate investors and people that actually do the building and demolishing, I would love to see what their charts look like.

But if you have Pluto in the fifth house, you're endlessly involved in romance affairs. Fun situations, enjoyment, creativity. All things fun, all things dramatic, all things lively. All things that can pretty much make you feel like you're actually living life.

Pluto in the sixth house, you could be endlessly involved in work, duty. Always got something on your schedule that you're endlessly involved with. So this could be someone with a never ending schedule. They're always doing this and that. They always got stuff to do. They're probably never really bored. And I doubt that they're creating these duties themselves because Pluto is the outer planet. So they might naturally just got a lot of stuff to do when it comes to everything else outside of them. Whether it's work related, family related. Of course, that will probably be connected to the aspects.

Pluto in the seventh house, endlessly involved in partnerships. Whether it's actually romance or just connected to people in some type of way. But it's endlessly.

Pluto in the eighth house, endlessly involved in digging. These people know how to go deep. These people are true researchers. It could be really, really intense. They can really dig deep. These will be the people that you should hire if you want some type of information and secrets uncovered. Because one thing about these people, they know how to dig deep. They know how to find the unthinkable. And they usually know how to do it in ways that's just, it just kind of comes off natural. But they know how to dig deep.

Pluto in the ninth house, endlessly involved in outdoor activities. Things come to them, basically. They don't have to go search and things just come to them. They're like the baby that's birthed from the eighth house. So they don't have to go looking, even though some of them do because this is a placement of discovery. But when you have Pluto in the ninth house, you're endlessly involved in things that you discover. Discovery in general. Outdoors, adventures, and information. You might deal with some type of publicity. Whether you're being the one publicized or you're doing the publicizing. But you're dealing with it some kind of way.

Pluto in the tenth house, endlessly involved in career related matters. And matters that gets a lot of attention.

Pluto in the eleventh house, endlessly involved with internet or groups of some sort. It doesn't always equate to positive experiences. No Pluto placement always equates to positive experiences. It just means that you're endlessly involved with it. And of course it could be negative or positive. But of course it will change and be different sometimes. Sometimes you have a good Pluto phase and sometimes you don't.

Pluto in the twelfth house, endlessly involved in private matters. Endlessly being secretive. Endlessly hiding out. And this could also mean that maybe you're shy sometimes as well. Because it's like you're endlessly doing it. So it's kind of similar to what I said about Jupiter. As far as what you're doing a lot of. It's kind of like you're doing it in such an intense way. Or it's just endless for the most part.

hihihi this is mostly just a silly thing i've been thinking about for like. at least two months now? never really considered actually making it because there wasn't really much to do with the concept but! i saw all the roleplay blogs and it gave me ideas for what this would look like. still not exactly sure what to do with it but it's been a thought in my head for a bit so i thought i might as well give it a chance.
