The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Brooch
Tumblr media
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee brooch was made by award-winning British fine jewellery designer, David Marshall, and his team at their workshop in London’s iconic jewellery quarter, Hatton Garden. The piece, which represents the four nations, was commissioned by the Goldsmiths’ Company as a gift to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
Tumblr media
The brooch – made of 18 carat white gold; platinum; 97 round brilliant cut diamonds (2.50 carat); and 7 fancy cut diamonds (0.40 carat) – was inspired by the four nations of the United Kingdom, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, represented by four diamond set swirls and the national flowers: the rose, the thistle, the daffodil and the shamrock. Seven diamond set bands represent the seven decades of the Queen’s reign. Buckingham Palace proposed the addition of the lily of the valley given the significance of the flower in The Queen’s Coronation bouquet.

To mark The Queen’s #PlatinumJubilee, a special display  has opened today at Windsor Castle, which commemorates Her Majesty's Coronation at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953.
Included in the display, and being exhibited for the first time, are a group of four brooches belonging to The Queen. Each represents a nation of the UK; rose for England, sprays of daffodils for Wales, thistles for Scotland and a sprig of shamrock for Northern Ireland, – emblems that also adorned Her Majesty’s Coronation Dress, which is also on display at the Castle.
Platinum Jubilee: The Queen’s Coronation is open from Thursday 7 July – Monday 26 September.

In recent decades, the Queen’s Three-Strand Pearl Necklace had become an iconic part of her look, along with her monochromatic coats and hats and brooches, worn most recently for her Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Pageant and for Holyrood Week in Scotland later that month. The Queen took the Pearls with her to Balmoral Castle, where they were worn when the Queen appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss just two days before she passed away. Unlike the rest of the Queen’s jewels, which may not be publicly worn for decades, the Three-Strand Pearl Necklace appeared less than 10 days after they were worn by the Queen, on the Princess Royal, who first wore the Pearls on a visit to Glasgow ahead of the Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.  Just a few weeks later, Princess Anne wore the Three-Strand Pearl Necklace on two separate occasions on a visit to New York City, paired with her Diamond Bow Brooch. More recently, the Princess Royal has been wearing the Queen’s Three-Strand Pearl Necklace on a visit to Uganda, when it was notably worn with Empress Marie Feodorovna’s Sapphire Brooch. Given all the recent appearances, there is no doubt we will continue to see these splendid pearls for years to come!

Lots of thought goes into Kate Middleton's outfit choices, and her St. Patrick's Day ensemble for her holiday debut as the new honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards was no exception.
Keeping with a long-running tradition, Kate and Prince William stepped out to visit the Irish Guards at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Aldershot on Friday. The Princess of Wales usually marks the event wearing green, the color most closely associated with the holiday, but she made a surprising decision to wear a teal Catherine Walker & Co. coat dress with matching accessories for the occasion this year.
While the color choice was certainly unexpected, there's a clever reason for it. Princess Kate's ensemble perfectly matched the plumes worn in the bearskin caps by the 1st Battalion Irish Guards. The color of the plume, St. Patrick's blue, was selected because that is the color of the mantle and sash of the Order of St. Patrick.
In June, blue was the color of choice for the royal family as they kicked off Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations with Trooping the Color. Elizabeth stepped onto the Buckingham Palace balcony wearing St. Patrick's blue, a nod to the original symbolic color of Ireland, which can also be representative of sovereignty. Royal women opted for shades of blue to coordinate with the monarch.
Karen Haller, behavioral color psychologist and The Little Book of Color author, previously spoke to MyLondon about the royal family's typical blue outfits, noting it shows that "they are coming together as a family, representing themselves as a cohesive unit."
"When it comes to color psychology, darker blues communicate that you are in a position of authority, trustworthy, reliable, and can be depended on," Haller told the outlet to "have a sense of duty and take that seriously with a committed focus."
For the St. Patrick's Day parade, Princess Kate also chose meaningful accessories in addition to sporting diamond and emerald earrings. Giving her outfit a touch of classic green, she sported a special shamrock brooch featuring a small emerald in the center.
The brooch belongs to the Irish Guards and is loaned to the royal women who are associated with the regiment; according to The Court Jeweller Kate, it was worn by Princess Anne and the Queen Mother.
Kate's coat dress also mirrored the Irish Guards' uniform, with four buttons down the front and a gap before four more buttons.
Both Prince William and Princess Kate gave speeches at the event, highlighting the transition in the royal roles. Charles recently named his daughter-in-law as the new honorary Colonel of the regiment, and she takes over the role from Prince William, who is now the equivalent of the Welsh Guards to go with his Prince of Wales title. The Prince of Wales said, "Whilst I am extremely happy to be here celebrating St. Patrick's Day with you once again, I'm incredibly sad to be giving this speech, as it really does mean my time as your Colonel has come to an end, and it has been one of the great honors of my life to hold that title; I'm proud of everything it stands for — just as I'm immensely proud of every single one of you."
He also poked some fun at himself and the tradition of toasting the holiday with a pint of beer. "This being my 13th and final St. Patrick's Day as Colonel, not only am I saddened that I'll likely fail once again to finish a pint of Guinness… but I am also sad that I won't in the future see more of you, the families, whose unwavering support enables these outstanding men and women to do what they do," Prince William, 40, said.
Kate, whom her husband referred to as "Colonel Catherine" in his speech, said her new role was a "true honor."
"I really couldn't be prouder to stand in front of you here today. It really is a true honor to be your colonel. I am here to listen to you, to support you, and to champion you in all you do – this is a responsibility I do not take lightly," she said.
"I look forward to spending more time with you and your families and seeing your commitment to duty and service in all you do. To close, however, I want to thank Colonel William. He has always talked about his fierce pride for this regiment and knows he will continue to support us all in the work we do," Princess Kate, 41, continued, "and I would like to wish you all a very happy St. Patrick's Day."
Kate took part in the traditional distribution of shamrock sprigs, which the guards pin to their tunics. Also getting a sprig of the Irish bloom was the regimental mascot, Irish wolfhound Turlough Mor, who is known as Seamus.
The parade ended with Princess Kate receiving a royal salute as the troops marched past.
Following an inspection of the troops, Prince William and Kate sat for official Officers' and Sergeants' Mess photographs before they headed to the dining hall, where they joined the Irish Guards in raising a toast with a glass of Guinness.

Queen's touching tribute to her great-great grandmother: Her Majesty wore Victoria's diamond-encrusted bow brooch to Platinum Jubilee finale in nod to her predecessor's own extraordinary 64-year reign.
It is one of a collection of three bows, commissioned by the monarch in 1858 and crafted by Garrard, all encrusted with diamonds from her personal collection.
The bow brooches are heirlooms of the Crown, which means they get passed down from monarch to monarch

Annual General Meeting
Chairman’s Report 2021-22
Annual General Meeting
                 5th September 2022
www.addlestonesingers.tumblr.com
We have come back after Covid to celebrate our 50th anniversary year in 2022.
On 7th May we were proud to be presented with a certificate in recognition of raising over £10,585.56
for Woking and Sam Beare Hospice.
Our May concert added an extra £540.95 to this total.
Rehearsals
It was wonderful to be back rehearsing together as Covid restrictions eased.  In September we continued to rehearse in the main hall at Addlestone Community Centre.  The Methodist Church was not open for the early part of our year.
Rehearsals ran
Monday 6th September to concert on 6th December
Monday 10th January to concert on 14th May
There were not sufficient members available to make a Summer singing session viable.  Our Musical Director ran 2 of her singers workshops locally for those who wanted to take part.
Our Monday rehearsals are from 8pm to 9.45pm with a break for refreshments.  From time to time we will have a ‘Bring and buy’ or sales of books, hats and other knitted items
Concerts
Our Christmas concert was held on Monday 6th December in Addlestone Community Centre with guest artists Chertsey Orchestra,  on behalf of Woking and Sam Beare Hospice.  It was lovely to see about 70 people in the audience,  so pleased to be back to live music after so long of being unable to do so.  We still observed social distancing guidance.
Thanks to Tesco for their donation of some mulled wine and mince pies.
Our 50th anniversary Spring concert was held on Saturday 14th May, again in the Community Centre with guest artists Chertsey Orchestra, where we sang songs chosen by the ladies.  Each member was wearing a golden brooch in the shape of a treble clef which had been presented to them the previous week to mark our 50th year.  We started the concert with the National Anthem in recognition of the forthcoming Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Singing at Other events
On 9th December some of us gathered round the piano at the Community Centre to lead audience singing of well known carols at an afternoon Tea party.
We also gathered round the piano at the Community Centre for the Jubilee Indoor street party on 4th June.
On both occasions there was enthusiastic singing from the audience.
We were unable to sing in Care Homes while Covid restrictions continued.
Social Events
As the year progressed and we were able to mix more socially, we held the following events
Cake and Quiz afternoon Tuesday 5th April
Picnic at Cowey Sale Monday 16th May
Sunday 24th July Cream tea at Sarah’s provided by herself and her husband.  Lovely afternoon!
See over for page 2
Musical Director and Pianist
Our Musical Director, Susan Higgins is in her 21st year with us.  We thank her for guiding and leading us through our musical journey.
We are lucky to have 2 Accompanists who were able to provide cover throughout the year, Janet Mannan in her 18th year with us and Tom Higgins who had supported us so well while we were singing on Zoom the previous year.
Membership
We continue to have a solid core of members.  Unfortunately not everyone was able to return having been unable to meet in person for well over a year.  Our membership for the Christmas session was  18 members, with 22 in the Spring term.
Unfortunately the lower membership has had an impact on our financial position, which will be reported by our Treasurer.
Committee
Our wonderful committee has continued to work tirelessly to meet all the challenges that have arisen and kept the choir together during what has been a very difficult 2 years for everyone.
Our helpers
If I mention anyone in particular I am bound to leave someone out.  Enough to say that we are so grateful to our friends and family members who support us in everything we do.
Membership of other groups
We continue to be affiliated to the Addlestone Community Association.  We will continue to attend meetings as they resume.  We continue to organise our Public Liability Insurance through a group of those who were previous members of the Runnymede Arts Association.
Addlestone Community Centre
Our thanks go to the team at the Centre for making us welcome and supporting our events throughout the year.
Music Library
Our music continues to be  located in the Methodist Church.
Repertoire
We have been fortunate to get together a good collection of music which has meant that it has not been necessary to buy new music.  This has been particularly valuable while we have all been getting used to singing back together again
Christmas 2021
50th anniversary    Spring 2021
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
A whole new world
Because of Him
Beauty and the Beast
Ding dong merrily on high
Bring me sunshine
Go tell it on the mountain
I could have danced all night
Joy to the world
I got rhythm
Santa Lucia

It’s a grand night for singing
