What: The Rake's Progress, Stravinsky (Glyndebourne 2011, dir. John Cox)
When: Saturday November 18th, 12:30pm EST
Where: Kosmi – link will be posted on Saturday morning
Who: everyone is welcome including you, yes, you!
Extra info: a simple tale of ambition, greed, love, and depravity. and, of course, a deal with a devil. with a score from the height of stravinsky's neoclassical period and iconic storybook-like designs by david hockney, this unique 20th century opera is sure to delight!
(yes i am shamelessly stealing @malcolm-f-tucker's format here lol.)

Sometimes you just want to be the tenor protagonist of an opera where you're introduced as an idealistic hopeless romantic but you descend into debauchery and sin (and then either have to prove yourself to the woman you love or go to Hell lmao)

Review: "The Rake's Progress" by W.H. Auden & Chester Kallman -
A strong Stravinsky score cannot quite disguise a rather tried Faustian tale with little freshness.

the rake's progress really has everything. heavy handed morals. a tenor who makes every bad decision possible. a lesbian with a beard. a meta relationship with opera as an artform and its history. some of the most gorgeous orchestrations of the past hundred years. some of the most awkward dialogue ever put to english language. the literal devil

inktober day 1 - dream

This is probably the only one I'll use the official list for since I already had an idea for it, and also probably the most high effort composition I'll do this month
If you see this you should watch The Rake's Progress, it's fire. It has demons, infernal pacts, and a really stupid tenor, what's not to like
Pen photos under the cut. Fun fact, this is how I discovered that my black ink actually has glitter in it. You can't see it in the photo but trust me it's there
