HERBALISM EXPLORED

Since 2012, Colleen O’ Bryant, founder of Wild Roots Apothecary, has immersed herself in the world of Herbalism. Combining botanical elements of the natural world together, Colleen’s creations remedy the mind and body. With an emphasis on achieving overall health and wellness through herbal remedies, Colleen has found a way to share her products with the rest of us! She hosts holistic wellness consultations, in which she creates custom blends of herbs and plants that are tailored to each of her client’s individual needs. Colleen has her hands full, and her pantry stocked. 

 THE APOTHECARY

A cozy interior space, complete with a fully-functioning wood stove, makes it easy to lose track of time whilst wandering thru the apothecary. Colleen has lined the top shelves with old-fashioned mason jars, jam-packed with colorful dried herbs. Take it from us, these beauties are just as pleasing to look at from afar as they are to pull down, carefully unscrew the lid, and peek inside for a better look. Her hand-made products range anywhere from teas to tinctures, bitters, syrups, and natural beauty products.

Some personal favorites of ours (if not all of them!), are Colleen’s Fireside Snuggle Tea, (a mix including cloves, coconut, bits of ginger and orange, vanilla oolong, cacao shells, allspice, and local spice berries), and her Mulberry and Elderflower Aromatic Bitters, (made with vodka, Gentian, local honey, elderflowers, mulberries, hibiscus, black cherry, lemon peel, allspice, fennel, cinnamon, cloves), great for swirling into a festive cocktail. Most of her products can be used in any sort of culinary venture. We recommend mixing her Peppercorn Turmeric Oxymel in with your salad dressing for a healthy, anti-inflammatory kick. All of these (and more!) can be found and ordered online.

Want to get in on the herbal goodness? Good news, Colleen and Wild Roots Apothecary always have a list of classes, events, and workshops to attend. Upcoming happenings include Wild Root’s 2018 Holiday Open House on Saturday, December 15th ; a day of shopping, sipping, and workshops! Workshops will be running all day, some of which include Chai Tea Blending, Make Your Own BLISS Spray, and The Herbal Bath (creating a customized bath soak to suite your needs). Matt Byers, owner of Evolo Design, purchased the former heating and air conditioning building located at 7813 Ted Gregory Ln, in Cincinnati, in 2008. He then brought in partner Mike Wentz, architect of Wentz Design to design a space that emphasizes its Ohio roots and the Old Montgomery character. STIR offers not only a beautiful and hip place to throw a party, but also provides a fully interactive, creative space for corporate meetings and team building activities, such as their popular culinary competitions.

When you step into STIR your guests will be wowed by the stylish comfort of the expansive space that includes a professional grade kitchen, a full bar area with seating for eight, and a comfortable living room that features multiple flat-screen televisions with a fully integrated sound system.

Tables can be arranged in a farm-style configuration for a large dinner party or into smaller groupings. If weather permits, the outdoor area adds another element of ambience, with tables, space for a bar set up and patio heaters for chillier nights.

“We tell our clients that all they have to do is show up for their own party,” said Susan Diehl, catering director for STIR. “We will have their drink waiting for them.” Diehl works with the host on every detail to make sure the event is exactly as he or she envisions. “We do it all for them, from the ordering, to the food preparation and service, to the clean up,” Diehl said. “Our job is to make our host feel like a guest at their own party.”

Happy Fourth of July!!

240 years ago, brave men and women made the decision to claim independence from England, a decision that led to  the birth our nation. Cheers to those men and women then, and those that continue to put their lives on the line every day to protect our freedom! Whether we are laying out blankets to save spots for fire works viewing or participating in parades this year, lets do so in a spirit of gratitude to them.

Adrienne Casbarian of Lum carries vintage lighting and accessories. She has traveled extensively attending auctions, estate sales and open markets to collect the finest lamps for her interior design clients. Lum is the perfect collection of vintage finds that help define a room’s personality.

Just like the plumage on a peacock, this brass peacock lamp will be sure to draw attention, the exaggerated tail is what first drew me to this stunner.  If I took this beauty home, I would use it in a reading nook. What a romantic way to sit and read, with a pretty peacock looking over your shoulder. A lamp like this would surely be the centerpiece of your room and would begin more conversations than you could ever start!
