i honestly do feel that eiffel's disrespect for authority and willingness to complain are positive traits. in terms of 'these are things i value in real people', but also for what it represents and what he's resisting within the narrative of wolf 359.

it's notable in the face of cutter's personal philosophy and goddard's corporate culture (pryce & carter #5, etc.) ... eiffel won't just accept anything, he won't do his job with a smile (he might not do his job at all, but either way, he reserves the right to be upset about it), he won't learn to compartmentalize. he will complain. he will keep on complaining. he values emotional honesty, and actively encourages others to express their feelings, especially the ones that aren't goddard-approved.

no matter what happens, or how long they've been up there, he never gets desensitized, and i think there's really something about someone who will keep saying 'this isn't normal, it isn't okay, i'm not okay with it, and i ask you to also not be okay with it,' even when he seems alone in saying it. their situation is horrible, and he feels everything so strongly. being able to express that is healthy, and it's human. i find it reassuring.

#wolf 359 #w359 #doug eiffel #you know?#it's how all of the antagonists in wolf are so good at compartmentalizing. it's cutter's particularly intense brand of toxic positivity #eiffel isn't interested in any of that. he feels how he feels and he's more than willing to express himself.#it's not just that he doesn't get desensitized either. it's that he is always surprised when other people are.#no matter how much callousness he runs up against he never stops being shocked and disgusted that other people can do that #and his emotional honesty creates a space for people who otherwise don't feel safe or comfortable enough to be honest with themselves #minkowski tries so hard to buy into the corporate culture but she's never quite got it.#and hera has internalized on a much deeper level that it's not safe for her to express her feelings #so it's just... nice that he can do that. i like him.#i like that he doesn't try to fix things for hera or tell her to feel better. he's just willing to be there and be upset with her.#to me (and i think for her) that counts for a lot.#& being good at complaining is a very attractive trait. to me.

So on one hand I got to participate in extubating a patient today but on the other hand I did get an E on my thesis which my advisor told us was "A or maybe B material" and that we were genuinely quite proud of.

#so all in all a Great! and also a Very Bad! day today #studyblr #medblr #isak talks #we called the advisor when we found out and she was absolutely shocked. i was real mad at her at first but now im just hoping #the appeal process will be quick and bring some change.#i mean fuck id honesty rather have an F than an E. at least that way we get to rewrite whatever parts dont actually work.#but seeing as our advisor is shocked too im hoping itll be bumped up cause of the appeal.#also honestly fuck my university for forcing us to change our entire thesis - problem statement and all AFTER the halfway point.#we had already gotten the go ahead! they told us time and time again we wouldn't be penalised for writing about a #relatively rare (but important!) condition. that it was innovative of us to chose a subject where theres been done few high quality studies #and then literally several days after the halfway point they go oh well actually no. you cant do that.#[redacted] university Get Your Shit Together challenge #anyways i love intensive care! pulmonology is great! i made a difference on the ward AND I got to be a part of the extubation team!#which is a great day! (if you ignore my uni being full of shit (as usual)).

During the writers and actors strikes going on rn it's been making me think of Newsies (fucking love the musical, 100/10) and I just wanna know one thing. It's a VERY popular musical that Disney has produced TWICE (movie music, 1990s I believe, Broadway recording, 2016 ish). So I believe I can safely assume that at least some of the higher ups in some of these companies have seen it, or at least know the plot.

And if they do, DID THEY LEARN NOTHING? THE ENTIRE SHOW IS ABOUT THE NEWSPAPER DOING EXACTLY WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND GUESS WHAT? THEY GIVE INTO THE DEMANDS AND COMPROMISE

and here's the fun bit, it's based on a true story. So if some poor kids were tired of getting taken advantage of in the late 1800s and got the big old rich guys to listen to them. What makes you even PONDER that these writers and actors (some of which were PART of productions of these kinds of stories) are going to give up and continue to be taken advantage of? Get a fucking grip AND PAY YOUR FUCKING WRITERS AND ACTORS

You guys would be NOTHING without them. Disney wouldn't have made it these last 100 years without everyone working their damn hardest to make a movie everyone can love. Netflix, Hulu, Prime, and everyone else would be distant memories without the hard fucking work people put into their jobs. SO PAY YOUR FUCKING WORKERS

Those workers add HUMANITY and emotion and care into everything they do and that's not something you can replace with a fucking robot either
