#The Strength in Weakness

PART 2 of finding out what Lotus would look like in each TMNT universe~ Here she is in 2007, Rise (the movie specifically), and TMNT vs Batman!!! (All of these had references and I did trace to get the body shapes proportionate, as well as all the backgrounds are screenshots I did NOT draw them!)

I knew 2007 was going to be hard- and MAN WAS IT. I never do "realistic" shading and lighting like the movie, so this was very much a challenge for me. I am happy with how it turned out though! There's still some things I gotta work on when it comes to rendering skin and how to add lighting/shading, but overall, it was really fun with practicing something new!

I already had ideas on what Lotus would look like in Rise, (it helps that my style was heavily influenced by the Rise movie), so her design in that universe was very easy to decide on. :) She's a mix of both Mikey and Leo's height and build, (seeing how her age range is between the two), and I gave her a few extra stripes to help her fit into the dazzle of the Rise world. :)

EHEHHEHEHE TMNT vs Batman is my favorite of the TMNT movies, so I knew I had to draw Lotus in that style. I didn't realize how simple the turtles' designs were in it! There's mostly shading, no lighting, and there's not much texture of the gear or skin. So this version was finished the quickest out of all of them. :)

Alright! I think that's all the universes I'll draw her in- (I think), soooo yeah! Thanks for joining me on this little drawing challenge!

Okay, so I've been working on this for a few days now- (I freehanded sketching 1987 and 2003, and just traced "Tales") XD. (And the BG's are all screenshots, I did NOT draw them.)

But here she is! This is Lotus, my oc from my story, in other TMNT universes!!! I have to admit, drawing in these different styles was really a breath of fresh air! It certainly was hard to get right, (Lookin at YOU, 2003), but overall, trying to draw in the diverse styles was a lot of fun. :)

It was also neat to explore how different/similar each style is to the others! The way that lighting, shading, and textures were drawn were unique to each universe. (Like how in 1987 there's rarely ever light highlights on the turtles, only shading. Or how in 2003 the shading is less rounded and more blocky, sometimes even being plain BLACK rather than a darker shade lowered in opacity.)

I think my favorite style to draw in was definitely "Tales". The sketch-like scratches for the line art was so much fun, cause I didn't have to be perfect with it! I just went crazy, drawing and coloring outside the lines, and it was a BLAST! :)

Now I need to look into the other universes~ Wonder what Lotus would look like in 2007- or Rise? We shall see. ;)

Seeing the discussion around Master Sol being the only one from that ill-fated mission to stay on Coruscant is interesting. Indara, Kelnacca, and Torbin all ended up exiling themselves to far-flung worlds to atone for what happened.

Not Sol, though. He stayed. Which is certainly a choice. He, arguably, is the most culpable in the Brendok disaster. His inability to divest his feelings from the mission cost Osha and Mae greatly.

There is a good argument that Sol should not be anywhere near younglings after what happened, let alone still be in the Order.

I disagree. We immediately see his regret and guilt in the aftermath. He’s a changed man after that tragedy and the lessons he learned that night creates the Master Sol we see in present day.

Sol chooses to stay in Coruscant - not in denial of what happened, but in full acceptance of how horribly he messed up.

What’s the lesson he’s teaching to the younglings when we first meet him?

“Do not trust your eyes. Your eyes can deceive you.”

He would know best the importance of such advice. To always question what you see. To think before you act.

While the others seek penance in exile, Master Sol stays and does his best to pass on his knowledge - his failures and mistakes - to others, so they can learn to do better. Like a Jedi Master should.

Hilarious that in the literal first chapters of TSCIR, Yoohyun tries to lock up Yoojin (keyword being tries) and we all, collectively were like “unbelievable! How overprotective! How irrational! Violence!! He’s locking up his brother!! How inhumane”

And now it’s somehow become “SOMEONE SIT ON HIM. LOCK HIM UP! YOOJIN WHERE DID YOU GET THOSE BOMBS PUT THEM DOWN! STOP BLOWING STUFF UP AND PISSING OFF GODS YOOJINNN”

While Sung Hyunjae is just in the back handing him bombs.

Happy Anniversary to the Rise of the TMNT MOVIE!!!! :)

Like @howtotrainyourdragonprince, I wanted to just commemorate the things that this amazing movie has done in the lives of so many people. Myself included. :)

Rise of the TMNT has sparked MORE FANFICS THAN I CAN COUNT. The show had many holes, (especially in the drama/angst variety), BUT, it was almost as if the creators of the show KNEW the fans of the franchise would step up to the plate and create THOUSANDS of au's, fanfics, comics, and more. :) Rise might not have been what we expected from the TMNT franchise, but it was something we needed. :) A BIG opportunity for so many like-minded people to pour their hearts and creative juices into something we all love.

And that's just the series.

I haven't even TOUCHED how much the Rise MOVIE has influenced and inspired SO MANY artists and authors. Many of the comics and stories I follow, (and make comic dubs for), are au's taken from the Rise Movie and series!
