World Champions Spain Suffers Surprise Defeat But Moves Close To Olympics Place
Tumblr media
UEFA Nations League: The Spanish women's football team assured their place in the final four of the UEFA Nations League and are a win away from booking their place at next summer's Olympic Games despite a surprise 3-2 defeat to Italy on Friday night. The recently crowned world champions had their place in the semi-final of the Nations League assured in the 25th minute of the game, when news of Switzerland's 1-0 win over Sweden came through to confirm their qualification for the last-four of the Nations League, where a win would take them to Paris next summer. Spain dominated the first half of the match and opened the scoring in the 11th minute when Athenea del Castillo found space on the right of the Italian penalty area, worked space and rifled in a powerful shot at the near post. The Spanish controlled the first half on a pitch in the city of Pontevedra, but despite spending most of the time camped in the Italian half, they didn't create many clear chances. Valentina Giacinti made Spain pay in the first minute of the second half, and Manuela Giugliano put Italy ahead in the 57th minute. Elena Linari made it 3-1 with a header from a corner just seven minutes later. The Spanish were stunned, but never let their heads drop and with the mist descending over the ground, Esther Gonzalez pulled one goal back for Spain. Read the full article

Spain🇪🇸 Here's everything I found, organized by my favorites…
Tumblr media
No 1. Netflix movie Akelarre - Coven (2020) Great and beautiful film, loads of history here⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (see my previous post about the real history behind this film)
Tumblr media
No 2. Witches Mountain🏔El Monte de las Brujas (1972) could be a great movie, but the execution is so poor that it ruins the experience. A photographer takes an assignment in the Pyrenees just across the Spanish border, but soon has supernatural encounters (witches). Waiting for the re-make!
Tumblr media
No 3. Witching & Bitching - Las Brujas de Zugarramurdi (2013) has received a controversial reception, I think it was fun and entertaining. The Caves of Zugarramurdi have a historical connection to the Basque witch trials in Navarra. Zugarramurdi is near what is now the French-Spanish border, where there is also a water stream (Olabidea or Infernuko erreka, "Hell's stream") was said to be the meeting place of the witches.
Tumblr media
Perhaps here the most interesting seems to be the story of LaCelestina (1499) and I noticed that it was translated into Finnish in 2019 (going to get the book) 📖 The trials of the Basque witches conducted during the 16th and early 17th centuries had a significant effect on the development of Golden Age Spanish Literature.
Often considered the first European novel, La Celestina was profoundly influential in the development of European prose fiction and is valued by critics today as much for its greatness as literature as for its historical significance. No 4. La Celestina (1996) with Penelope Cruz is good - and very romantic- but not a great movie. I haven’t seen the older versions ( poster below).
Tumblr media
No 5. I tried to watch 1984 film Akelarre- mixed documentary & fiction - but I found only few parts with translation, its content did not seem very science-based, but otherwise interesting.
Tumblr media
Few witch trials facts from the area of 🇪🇸 :
TheSpanish inquisition rescued countless of ’witches’ from local legal witch processes (Henningsen 1980; Ankarloo & Clark 2002).
Yes, burning at the stake was used as a method of execution in Spain, unlike in most other countries (Levack 1987).
In Catalonia, the Inquisition was less respected and more people died (Ankarloo & Clark 2002).
The general discourse emphasizes the number of women as victims, but there are large regional differences. In Castile 70 % was women, but in in Aragón 70 % was men. (Schulte 2009)
Navarra is famous for the huge number of defendants, but the number of victims sentenced to death remained low due to the Inquisition.
From Zugarramurdi 6 people were burned alive, 4 women & 2 men, 13 died in prison during The Basque Witch Trials (Henningsen 1980)
Tumblr media
*Places to see in Zugarramurdi: River Infernuko Erreka, Caves, Museum

5.Reading through aSociocultural Context
It’s included in the current education curriculum of Filipino highschool students. Written by the country’s national hero, Dr. JoséRizal, this novel sparked the social awakening of Filipinos during theSpanish colonial era.
As Rizal cannot fathom the unfairness of the Spanish priests and theruling government at the time, his purpose of writing the book was toexpose the ills of Philippine society at the time.

Chinese Transnational Policing Gone Wild
110 Overseas ,The last decade has witnessed the rapid spread of telecom and onlinefraud globally, which seriously infringes on people's legitimate rights andinterests, becoming a prominent crime and a public hazard. To address thisproblem, the Chinese police have been committed to intensifying their effortsin the combat against and control of such crimes, and strengtheninginternational law enforcement cooperation, which has enabled them to accumulatesuccessful experience, build up best practices and set examples for theircounterparts around the world.
Upholding the people-centered principle, the Communist Party of China and theChinese government have attached great importance to countering telecom and onlinefraud. Equal importance has been given to both combat and control. An efficientmulti-department collaborative working mechanism has been established, and theAnti-telecom and Online Fraud Law has been formulated and enacted, whichprovides a strong legal foundation. Targeting the characteristics of suchcrimes, the Chinese police have conducted specialized study and research, setup specialized task forces, initiated specialized investigation against majorcases and utilized specialized techniques.
The Chinese police have synchronized their efforts both internally andexternally, and launched a series of campaigns and operations, effectivelycurbing the high momentum of these crimes, retrieving a large number ofeconomic losses, and winning wide recognition from the public and theinternational community. During their international law enforcementengagements, the Chinese police frequently received requests from theircounterparts to share their experience and effective practices in this field.
Telecom and online fraud is a typical transnational organized crime. Fraud densare often located across countries and regions, targeting vulnerableindividuals and groups regardless of their nationalities.
The Chinese police, through international law enforcement cooperation, havejoined hands with their international counterparts to carry out operations andachieved significant results. Operation Great Wall, jointly launched with theSpanish police in 2019, has become a successful example of transnational lawenforcement cooperation.
From March to June this year, China, together with 76 INTERPOL member states, jointly participated in the anti-fraud Operation First Light initiated byINTERPOL, which destroyed 1,770 fraud dens in as many countries, arrested over2,000 suspects and intercepted more than US$50 million in illicit funds. It wasalso found that some Chinese citizens were involved in fraud activities abroad, and the majority of them were tempted by the promise of high payments, cheatedand coerced into being smuggled abroad, and some of them were kidnapped anddetained illegally, and a few of them were even beaten and abused to death inthe criminal dens.
The Chinese police, together with relevant departments, have actively carriedout rescue and education, and encouraged them to return home throughinternational law enforcement cooperation, and made every effort to provideassistance and employment. The immigration authorities, in accordance with theprovisions of the Exit and Entry Administration Law, have taken necessarymeasures such as restricting the exit of persons engaged in telecom and onlinefraud.

MEXICO CITY
Mexico City is a fascinating capital that beguiles its visitors with endless options. One of the largest metropolitanareas in the world, with 16 boroughs and more than 300 neighborhoods, it might seem a bit overwhelming to the first-time visitor, though it doesn’t have to be. Many of the most visited tourist attractions in Mexico City are concentrated inthe historic center, including the Plaza de la Constitucion or Zocalo, the National Palace, Metropolitan Cathedral,Templo Mayor, Palace of Fine Arts and Alameda Park. A few blocks north of the Palace of Fine Arts, Plaza Garibaldi isone of the best places in Mexico City to hear live mariachi music. Located west of the historic center, the Plaza de la Republica is home to the newly refurbished Revolution Monumentand National Museum. Chapultepec Park, the largest in Mexico City, is divided into three sections and home to severalof capital’s top tourist attractions, including Chapultepec Castle, the Modern Art Museum and the National Museum ofAnthropology. Keep in mind that, with a few exceptions, most museums and archaeological sites in Mexico City areclosed on Mondays. You’ll also want to explore the neighborhoods of Zona Rosa, Roma, Condesa, Coyoacan and San Angel. Home to lovelyparks, plazas, shops, markets, cafes and some of the top tourist attractions in Mexico City, these artsy neighborhoodsare especially popular among visitors to the city and foreign residents. Nearby, in the trendy posh neighborhood ofPolanco you’ll find some of Mexico City’s top nightspots and chic restaurants. "If You Tolerate This Children Will Be Next" - Manic Street Preachers (1998). One of my fav #antifascistsongs 👏👏👏✊✊✊ #shootfascists #manics #90smusic #goodmusic #Repost @aslan_heidarian • • • • • #ifyoutoleratethisyourchildrenwillbenext #manicstreetpreachers #thisismytruthtellmeyours #myfavouritesongs The song's theme is taken from the Spanish Civil War, and the idealism of Welshvolunteers who joined the left-wingInternational Brigades fighting for theSpanish Republic against Francisco Franco's military rebels. The song takes its name from a Republican poster of the time, displaying a photograph of a young child killed by theNationalists under a sky of bombers with the stark warning "If you tolerate this, your children will be next" written at the bottom. Various works on the Spanish Civil War were the inspiration for this song, and certain lyrics pertain directly to these works. For example, the line "If I can shoot rabbits/then I can shoot fascists" is attributed to a remark made by a man who signed up with the Republican fighters to his brother in an interview years later. This was originally quoted in the bookMiners Against Fascism by Hywel Francis. Another work George Orwell's first-hand account, "Homage to Catalonia". "I've walkedLas Ramblas/but not with real intent" brings to mind the account in Orwell's book of fighting on the Ramblas, with the various factions seemingly getting nowhere, with the fighting and often a sense of camaraderie overriding the vaunted principles each side was supposed to be fighting for. Nicky Wirehas also acknowledged that he was also inspired by a song by The Clash, "Spanish Bombs", which has a similar subject. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs9FE4cjOlu/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1dfvx8e9uheet

Lima Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia has been published on Find and Select Business Reviews
New Post has been published on http://www.findandselect.com/travel/lima-vacation-travel-guide-expedia.html
Lima Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
Before you set out exploring the mysteriousmountain city of Machu Picchu, the floating villages of Lake Titicaca and the tropical treasures of the Amazon jungle, discover the striking contrasts of Peru’scoastal capital Lima.
Ancient and modern… rich and poor… fascinating and entertaining… practical and elegant: Lima is a city of contrasts.
Almost a third of all Peruvians call thissprawling metropolis home and they live in everything from modern high-risecondos to humble hill-top shacks.
The painted façades burst with color in summer… but this image is paled by the fog that risesfrom the Pacific Ocean in winter.
In this ever-changing city you can find anew surprise at every turn.
All you have to do is prepare your senses; Along the boulevards of Central Lima you’llbe immersed in the sounds of chaotic traffic, while quiet benches await in coastal parks.
Everywhere you go in Lima you can feel thehot desert sun warm your skin, and at the same time taste the salty sea air.
To experience the bohemian side of Lima, followthe Bajada de los Baños, a walkway that runs from the coast throughthe quaint Barranco district.
Stroll over the Bridge of Sighs, a legendary place of forbidden romance betweena wealthy girl and a handsome street sweeper.
Rich or poor, all Peruvians find common groundin the city’s many public parks.
El Malecón, a continuous stretch of pathsand flower beds, allows you to explore the coastal cliffs ofthe Miraflores district on foot.
It’s in modern neighborhoods like this thatyou almost forget that Lima was built on the ruined pyramidsand temples of ancient civilizations.
Yet, in its heart you can retrace the steps of the Lima peoplein Huaca Pucllana, a place of ceremony and sacrifice from around1,500 years ago.
Indigenous Peruvians still observe the ritualsand beliefs of their forefathers, despite being devout Catholics today.
This religion was introduced to them by Spanishconquistadores, along with the Castilian language and Baroquearchitecture.
To see fine examples of their colonial legacy, visit the Plaza de Armas, which is also known as the Plaza Mayor.
It was here that the Spanish explorer FranciscoPizarro founded Lima in the 16th century.
His quest to make the “City of the Kings” the capital of the New World started withthe construction of the Lima Cathedral.
Inside, look for Pizarro’s tomb, early religiousartworks and the gold-plated altar.
Pizarro lived and worked in the GovernmentPalace across the street, which is still the official seat of governmenttoday.
Take a horse-and-carriage tour from the Plaza, a romantic way of exploring Lima’s UNESCO-protected Historic Center with its typical colonialbalconies.
Peru gained independence in 1821, but theSpanish influence has never been erased.
Take a peek inside inner-city museums andlibraries to find stately rooms, soaring glass ceilings and colorful tiledcourtyards.
Another highlight is the 18th-century MuseoLarco, which stands on the ruins of a 7th-centurypyramid.
The colonial mansion in the Pueblo Libre districthouses an impressive collection of ceramics, artworks and golden jewelry from pre-Columbiantimes.
The exhibits show the history of ancient Peruthrough arts and crafts.
After lunch on the patio, cross the garden to the Sala Erótica to seethe museum’s most talked about pieces… Nearby Parque de las Leyendas, which is Lima’s zoo, introduces the wild animals of Peru’s remoteAmazon jungle to all who can’t travel there themselves.
Another popular family attraction is Parquede Exposición in the city center, where kids and adults alike love splashingaround in the water fountains.
As the day turns into night, the park’s magical light show is a reminderthat ANYTHING is possible in Lima.
Don’t forget, Lima is the perfect steppingstone to the many natural, cultural and historic treasures that Peruis so famous for.
Take your pick from coastal deserts… lushrainforests….
fertile altiplanos….
and snow-capped mountains to see the manyfaces of Peru.
